EVGA Bundles Grey Goo With Select Power Supplies

Getting free games bundles with your graphics card or motherboard isn’t something new, that has been around for quite a while now, but it is a rarity that we also see games being bundled with power supplies. In fact, I can’t remember it happening before myself. However, that is exactly what EVGA has done as the have gone ahead and bundled Grey Goo Definitive Edition with select power supplies.

The game isn’t just bundled with a one or two power supplies, this offer applies to pretty much the entire 80Plus Gold, Platinum, and Titanium rated power supply lineup, as you can see in the list below. Ranging from entry level 550W models all the way up to impressive 1600W models, the offer is made available for most people.

Grey Goo is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that combines classic strategy mechanics and a balanced combat system with an emphasis on large-scale decision-making. It puts you at the centre of a tactical struggle for survival – and ultimately, control of Ecosystem 9.

The game features both a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer action with your friends and enemies. In single player, you have the option to play one of three factions: Humans, Beta, and the Goo. The Humans are the masters of defensive architecture while the Beta only is described as a proud and versatile alien race. The Goo is probably what most people will want to play tho as that is the enigmatic and highly mobile life form made up of, yes you guessed it, grey goo. In the multiplayer part, you also get a fourth faction, the disruptive and unpredictable Shroud.

As always with this kind of offer, there are a few conditions to get the free game. You’ll have to have purchased the power supply on March the 25th, 2016 or later from an authorized reseller. You’ll also need to register the purchased product to get the game key. Once you’ve followed the redeem guide, you’ll get a game code emailed that you then can activate through your Steam app as you most likely have done with so many games before.

All the fine-print and the links to redeem your game can be found on the official mini-site for this Grey Goo offer.

SilverStone Releases Compact Titanium Certified PSUs

The power supply is one of the parts of your system where you never should cheap out as it’s the backbone of your system that supplies anything with power. SilverStone now released three new models in the Strider Titanium series, the ST60F-TI, ST70F-TI, and ST80F-TI, that not only come with great specs and impressive titanium certification, they are also very compact and fully modular at the same time.

The new Strider power supplies meet the strict 80 PLUS Titanium efficiency rating where they have to stay above 90% efficiency, even at very low load conditions. This is a tricky thing to achieve and that is why we mostly have seen large units with this certification. SilverStone cracked this and are now offering these ratings for the Strider 600W, 700W, and 800W power supply units in a compact size.

The new units are only 150mm deep and at the same time they come with a fully modular cable system. This allows for the usage in any ATX compatible case with ease and it also allows you to make a great cable management. Speaking of cables, the new Strider units come with flat cables that should make the overall cable routing easier. They have better flexibility and allow for tighter folding.

SilverStone’s ST60F-TI, ST70F-TI, and ST80F-TI are built around a single +12B rail design which allows it to deliver the best possible power to all connected components. It has a ±3% regulation and low ripple & noise performance for high stability. The PSUs are built with all Japanese capacitors and rated for 24/7 continuous power output. Overall, some amazing looking power supplies.

These world’s smallest fully modular ATX power supplies with 80 PLUS Titanium efficiency will be available starting next week for an MSRP of $161.70 USD for the ST60F-TI, $178.75 USD for the ST70F-TI and 195.80 USD for the ST80F-TI.

Custom-Designed Putin Head iPhone 6s Costs a Mere $3200

The iPhone 6s in any storage configuration is a costly endeavor and not financialy viable for many budget-conscience consumers. Historically, Russia’s communist ideology lends itself to the same inequality seen in a capitalist democracy. Without getting too political, both electoral structures can be horrifically unequal with the uber rich spending vast amounts of money in close proximity to poverty-stricken states. As a result, we often see modified versions of expensive items like the iPhone 6s. Unsurprisingly, a Russian jeweler called Caviar, has created the “Caviar Ti Gold Supremo Putin Anniversario Edizione 63”.

This rather lavish piece is unmistakably patriotic and embeds a large profile image of Putin in solid gold. Additionally, there is a verse from Russia’s national anthem and a crest. The gold sections are encrusted on a titanium back with the Caviar branding near the top. According to the jeweler, only 63 copies will be made which cost upwards of $3200. This depends on the storage model with 64GB and 128GB being the only options. I do find it amusing that a 16GB model wasn’t produced.

If the item isn’t luxurious enough, you can purchase a stunningly beautiful carry case from $306. Personally, I find the main handset quite garish, but the box is pretty nice. Although, I wouldn’t spend $500 on a handset, so it’s slightly out of my price range.

Perhaps, this is an example to illustrate Russian wealth for rich government members, or oligarchs. Whatever the case, it’s certainly an interesting design and makes the standard iPhone 6s suddenly look affordable.

What do you think of this $3200 beast?

MSI Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM Edition (LGA 1151) Motherboard Review

Introduction

Intel’s Skylake has been with us for a little over a month now and reports are coming back extremely positive, with retailers struggling to maintain stock and very few reviews having anything negative to say. We are now at the stage where motherboard manufacturers have had the chance to tweak and update drivers to ensure the best possible performance and prices have stabilised thanks to increased stock levels hitting retailers.

Today in the test bench we have the simply stunning MSI XPOWER Z170A motherboard, but this isn’t any old XPOWER version, this is the Titanium Edition. The entire PCB has been created with a non-reflective silver finish, which is designed to make you think that the entire motherboard has been made from Titanium, ignoring the electrical impossibilities of course. This new design has been inspired by MSI’s use of new Titanium chokes which was introduced on Military Class 5 component range. These new chokes are capable of withstanding higher temperatures, which results in longer lifespan and potentially higher overclocking capabilities.

Along with the new chokes, this motherboard features a unique OC Dashboard. This little addition is a small rectangular PCB with additional buttons and switches with could help overclocking and troubleshooting. The best part of this is that you can fix this onto the front of your case with the extension cable provided. This is the most expensive MSI Z170 motherboard option to date, let’s find out if this motherboard isn’t just smoke and mirrors and can actually perform well.

Specifications

Special Features

Motherboard manufacturers need to maintain a competitive edge over the competition, so bundle in all sorts of special features and programs. MSI is at the forefront of useful features and includes the following with this motherboard:

Packing and Accessories

The packaging is just as impressive as the motherboard inside. Overall silver colouring to match the motherboard and the usual MSI and Intel branding logos. The front is actually really plain with no mention of any specifications or special features.

When you flip the box over, you are hit by a wealth of information. The biggest features are pictured with the lesser features having large titles and a centre placement. The general features and I/O configuration are then towards the bottom in a much smaller print.

I love opening up an MSI motherboard box, there is always so much to read and use. The first accessories are the manuals, drivers and other paper-based reading material; there is also a premium Gaming Series case badge if you wish to use it.

Moving to the more interesting accessories, 6x SATA cables, a triple lane SLI bridge, IO shield and V-Check cables; an extremely comprehensive range with no useless items that will never see the light of day.

3D Printed Sternum And Ribs For Cancer Patient

3D Printing has taken off in recent years, with everything from toys to houses being designed and built by anyone with a computer (and a big enough printer). Some of the biggest advantages of the 3D printer are quite simply those provided to medical sciences, with advances allowing people to print items that could help people in ways unthought of several years ago, such as a 3D printed skull for a 3-year-old girl in china. The latest though is another step, with a set of ribs and sternum being printed for a 54-year-old man.

Medical company Anatomics and CSIRO’s 3D printing facility developed the technology required to 3D print the titanium sternum and ribcage implant that was used. In this instance, the gentlemen had several bones removed that had been affected by a cancerous tumour, called chest wall sarcoma.

Crediting the surgery as a success, Surgeon José Aranda stated that “to his knowledge this is the first 3D titanium printed sternum (made through) custom-made processes”. What this means is that in place of a regular sheet of titanium the implant was actually constructed and designed before being built, making it an easier fit and more accurate to the original autonomy of the gentlemen involved.

SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 750W & Titanium 1000W Power Supply Review

Introduction & Packaging

SuperFlower is one of the leading names in the PSU market, with a wide range of products that cater to a wide range of budgets, although their specialty certainly seems to be in the high-end market, where they offer an impressive range, both in terms of aesthetics and performance for the enthusiast and prosumer markets. Today, I’ll be taking a look at not one, but two of the latest SuperFlower power supplies; the Platinum rated 750W and the Titanium rated 1000W.

Platinum and Titanium rated efficiencies are both very impressive, especially given that many consumers rarely shop above 80Plus Gold. The end result from these higher ratings is that the PSUs should be extremely efficient and could potentially save you some money on your electricity bill in the long run; which is no bad thing. This isn’t a head-to-head “which is best” review, as they’re both spec’d to have their own strength, one for the usual high-end user, the other is aimed a little more at the enthusiast side, so it’ll be interesting to see if spending that bit extra is really worth it overall.

Packaging and Contents – Leadex Platinum 750W

First up we have the 750W Platinum, which comes nicely packaged in a rather eye-catching box.

Around the back, we have a quick run down of all the major features; we’ll take a closer look at those in a moment.

In the box, you’ll find all the usual bits first; power cable, owners manual and some chassis mounting screws.

FSP Reveal 400W Titanium Certified PSU

This FSP400-60AGTAA isn’t the first 80Plus Titanium certified power supply we’ve seen since the standard was introduced not long ago, but the FSP Group’s newest is the first to come with this certification at such a low wattage. FSP Group now brings true power efficiency to office and home computers.

Super Flower has received certifications for PSUs ranging from 600 to 1600 Watts, but none of these are on the market yet. So far, it is only Corsair that has a Titanium rated PSU on the market with the AX1500i PSU. Now PSP Group joins the two and becomes the next manufacturer to get the Titanium certification, but the first to get it for a 400W PSU.

According to the 80Plus certification, the PSU can perform at 90.02, 93.00, 94.18 and 92.73 percent efficiency (depending on load level) while being connected to an 110V outlet. This also means that it should perform at even better efficiency on a 230V outlet. It comes in a typical grey OEM design, is non-modular, and without cable-sleeves, which points towards a pure OEM product at first. But we can surely expect it to be launched as a new Aurum series as well.

Thermaltake To Show Limited Edition Level 10 Titanium Chassis At Computex

Thermaltake are no stranger to launching high-end chassis products, but this year is set to be very special for the company. At Computex 2014, Thermaltake will be revealing the latest edition of their Level 10 chassis, which was designed alongside BMW’s Group DesignWorksUSA. The new chassis, the Level 10 Titanium, will be a very limited edition product, with only 500 being produced worldwide!

“Going through the era of black and silver, Titanium limited edition presents Thermaltake’s self-breakthrough spirit and the boldness in making innovation. As a premium yet rare material, Titanium not only expresses the quality of durability, light weight, dent- and corrosion resistance, it is also the prefect representation of being able to deliver the passion for visual aesthetics that derived from demanding immersive game play and multimedia entertainment enthusiasm. Thermaltake believes that the new Level 10 Titanium Edition will take the series to a new peak.

“The “Level 10 Titanium Limited Edition Gaming Station” is a significant leap forwards from the Level 10 that preceded it. Level 10 is upgraded to 6 EasySwap HDD bays to meet high-end enthusiasts’ expectation. Designed with innovation, this limited gaming tower is equipped with 4 advanced USB 3.0 ports that accommodate all devices such as high speed hard drives, high performance gaming mice, headsets and any other peripherals that are in need of high speed transfer rates. The asymmetric arrangement of 7 robust vertical heatsinks and the horizontally located individual components creates a strong architectural statement, making it possible to take advantage of excellent airflow to vastly reduce temperatures on system components.”

The original Level 10 has already won many awards, including the Red Star, IDEA, Google Design, Golden Pin Design, iF, reddot and more. It’s a very unique looking and performing product and the Titanium looks set to reiterate why it stunned us all in the first place.

No words on price, or exact release date just yet, but expect it to be crazy expensive and incredibly hard to get hold of. We’ll be heading out to the show, so I’ll make sure we stop by and give you all a closer look at it.

Thank you Thermaltake for providing us with this information.

Corsair AX1500i 80 Plus Titanium PSU Now Available

Corsair is one of the most popular brands on the market for PSU products, and today marks a big milestone in the companies history as they launch their new AX1500i PSU. The much anticipated AX1500i Digital ATX Power Supply is packed full of features that really set it apart from the competition, launching as the new flagship PSU in the Corsair range.

“The new power supply uses Corsair’s second-generation digital architecture, a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to control power output, resulting in tighter DC voltage output regulation and superior stability for your valuable PC’s components. The AX1500i’s incredible efficiency also results in greatly reduced heat, allowing the PSU to operate in a truly silent Zero-RPM fan mode at loads of up to 450W.
