Cyberpunk 2077 to Be “Better, Bigger, More Revolutionary” than Planned

Cyberpunk 2077 – the hotly-anticipated game, based on tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020, currently in development by The Witcher 3 makers CD Projekt RED – has already been proclaimed as “far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt RED has done before,” and a recent sales call by the company suggests that the game is set to be even larger than anticipated.

During its 2015 financial results conference, CD Projekt RED President Adam Kiciński and Studio Head Adam Badowski discussed the on-going development of Cyberpunk 2077 and, while Badowski confessed that the studio was “a long ways away from the premiere” of the game, he revealed that it is set to be “even better, even bigger, even more revolutionary” than initially planned (translation courtesy of DualShockers).

To facilitate the magnitude of the task, CD Projeckt RED has announced that it is to more than double the size of its development team. In a press release, the company said:

“The Witcher 3 set the bar high and provided a reference point for our future growth. We continue to develop and strengthen global brands by exploiting our proprietary technologies and drawing upon our accumulated know-how. Our team of experienced, talented and passionate professionals is fully capable of creating a videogame from scratch – starting with a fresh concept, then proceeding with development and marketing activities, and finalizing the project with global distribution. Thanks to GOG Galaxy, GOG.com is also opening a new chapter in its history.”

CD Projeckt RED reported revenues of 798 million PLN (£146m) and profits of 342.4 million PLN (£62.6m)

Witcher 3 Mod Lets You Play as a Female Protagonist

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, being based on an existing series of novels, was locked in to having Geralt, the titular male Witcher in the books, as its protagonist, but a new fan mod now allows gamers to change their lead character to a woman. The mod, developed by ParKan – who also developed a mod to allow permanent companions, giving you five companion options that can be used in battles – lets players switch out Geralt for either Triss, Yenifer, Shani, or Ciri, all non-playable character within the game already.

While the mod give gamers some welcome agency, the female character models still use much of Geralt’s animations, particularly during battle scenes and some cutscenes, and the suspension-of-disbelief-breaking voice of Geralt emanating from the lips of all four women.

The character mod requires three mod installs from NexusMods (1, 2, and 3) which are all installable via NMM.

This mod changes playable Geralt to Triss, Yennefer, Ciri or Shani. Tested on Steam version 1.11 and can’t guarantee working at another versions, the NexusMods post reads. “This mod may be incompatible with mods that uses xml editing. Character has Geralt’s animations during combat actions and in some parts of dialogs and cutscenes.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has garnered near-universal acclaim in 2015, winning Game of the Year in this year’s Game Awards.

CD Projekt RED Knows Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date – Remains Committed to Witcher 3 in 2016

While Polish developer CD Projekt RED is developing its next RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, the company has reassured gamers that it remains committed to producing new content and updates for its last epic, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, while teasing that it already knows the release date of Cyberpunk 2077.

In an interview with Polish site Money (translation courtesy of Neogaf user Boskee), Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projeckt RED, said:

“Life after The Witcher exists. We’ve been working on Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time. It’s a completely different reality, set in the future, with corporations and morally grey world. Just to be clear: We already have the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 planned, but we won’t announce it until we are ready to start the marketing campaign. At the moment we’re concentrating on The Witcher and don’t want to distract users from that product, which we are still monetising.”

While CD Projekt RED is currently working on the Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3, the company promises that there are more plans afoot for new content in 2016, with Kicinski adding:

“This and the next year will be devoted to The Witcher. Apart from the second expansion we have some additional ideas. They should help us animate sales in 2016. The game is selling so well, that we are convinced there are still many people who will buy it if we promote it further.”

GreenMan Gaming Denies Selling ‘Grey Market’ Games

Online digital game retailer GreenMan Gaming has been accused of selling so-called ‘grey market’ games – games that are legally sourced, but that are being sold in a manner that does not benefit the publisher or developer – by users of the GameDeals subreddit.

After members of the subreddit discovered that GreenMan Gaming was selling unauthorised copies of CD Projekt RED’s epic RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, GameDeals mod gamedealsmod (not just a clever name) contacted a number of publishers to determine if the online game retailer was an authorised reseller. While WB Games confirmed that GreenMan sells its games legitimately, Activision and Ubisoft revealed that they have no official relationship with the site.

Following this revelation, GameDeals banned GreenMan Gaming sales from the subreddit.

Paul Sulyok, CEO ofGreenMan Gaming, has released a statement denying the accusations, drawing a distinction between being an authorised reseller and selling games that are “sourced responsibly”. The full statement (via Gamespot) reads:

Dear Reddit

First of all, we are very disappointed that we were unable to come to a mutual understanding with the Reddit Game Deal moderators: /r/GameDeals

Over the past year, we have been repeatedly asked to supply sensitive information regarding contracts between us and publishers, which for legal reason we simply cannot share, nor should we be expected to. We believe that other retailers featured on Reddit Game Deals have not been afforded the same level of scrutiny and investigation that we have endured, and that ultimately, customers will be missing out on information and deals.

We find the research carried out by the Reddit Game Deal mods has been subjective or inaccurate. We know they share the same aims as we do; to offer customers great value on great games, so it brings us no pleasure to publicly state – they are wrong.

We have always been transparent that for us, the customer is our priority. We have withdrawn from Reddit Game Deals as we no longer have the time and resources to keep offering proof and statements to their persistent group of moderators. Our focus as always should be and is our customers.

We reiterate that we source our keys from a range of over 400 publishers, developers, and distributors to meet customer’s demands on a title by title basis. Let’s be clear here; there is a difference between being an authorised retailer for some titles, and being a retailer selling keys that have been sourced responsibly through authorised third parties with revenue going back to the publisher. If a key unlocks, it is an authentic key. This isn’t a perfect science as human error can affect the supply chain. Where possible, we work directly with publishers and distributors to make sure customers have the very best experience with us.

Whenever things outside of our control have happened, we have instantly and fairly tried to make it right. We accept that we don’t always get it right, and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, the Reddit Game Deal community, and everyone who has supported us.

Thank you

Paul Sulyok CEO Green Man Gaming

Cyberpunk 2077 Isn’t Just a Sci-Fi Witcher 3

Following the runaway success of CD Projekt RED’s sprawling RPG epic The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, all eyes have turned to the developer’s next project, the much-hyped Cyberpunk 2077, based on the tabletop role-playing game Cyberpunk 2020. The game, which has been in development since 2012, has been heralded by CD Projekt RED as “far bigger than anything else that [we have] done before”.

Lead Quest Designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz teased further details about Cyberpunk 2077 during a live streamed panel at PAX Australia, during which he revealed that the new RPG will be more than just The Witcher 3 with a sci-fi skin:

“Definitely, we want to keep the things that were good about it [the quest design system] for Cyberpunk, and basically we don’t want to change things that were working properly. So we will stick to the guidelines that were working.

I think there are things that we could have done better, so we will adjust it to Cyberpunk’s requirements. Also, it’s a completely different game, It’s obviously an RPG as well, but it has totally different systems. We need to focus on making the gameplay fun in different ways than sword fighting is.

So I think we will have to adjust, but like I said, we will try to keep all the good things that we did on The Witcher.”

The release of CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is thought to be at least two years away, but some big reveals regarding the game could hit next March, predicts DualShockers.

Cyberpunk 2077 “Bigger Than Anything CD Projekt Has Done”

News is starting to emerge regarding CD Projekt RED’s in-development sci-fi RPG epic, Cyberpunk 2077. The game – three years in the making with a release projected post-2017 – is being billed by the developer as its most ambitious undertaking, which is saying something in the wake of its last game, the sprawling The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.  The developer boasted, “We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size.”

“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt RED has done before,” said Jose Teixeira, Visual Effects Artist for CD Projekt RED. “Far, far bigger.” He added that the team is taking lessons learned during the development of The Witcher 3 to inform the direction of Cyberpunk 2077, saying, “If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.”

“I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go ‘I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better’,” he said.

Teixeira wouldn’t speculate on a release date for the game, which is a video game adaptation of Nineties tabletop RPG Cyberpunk 2020, joking that we should expect the game in 2077.

CD Projekt RED Thanks Fans as The Witcher 3 Sells 6 Million Copies

Adam Badowski, CEO of CD Projekt Red, has written an open letter thanking fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after the RPG sold over 6 million copies in its first 6 weeks.

Hey Gamers!

Time does fly! These few months since launch passed faster than you can say potestaquisitor. We’ve been hard at work delivering you new content, fixing what needed to be fixed, and secretly plotting how to rock this boat we call the RPG genre even more. We’ve just concluded our shareholder conference where we announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt family got a bit bigger — we sold over 6 million copies of the game in six weeks since launch. Worry not, I won’t discuss any financial stuff here. I would, however, like to give you some insight on what that means to us as game creators.

One could think we have six million reasons to be happy and that’s it. We do, but that number is also a big responsibility and I want everyone to know that we, as a studio, realize that. For us, all your high praise, all the positive reviews, are also an obligation — we’ve made a really good game but there’s still a long road ahead of us. Everyone here in CD PROJEKT RED is really attached to their work and how you, the gamers, perceive it. RED is full of artists, wild dreamers and people crazy about what they do (and sometimes just plain crazy). We lose sleep over that particular colour the sun has when it sets over Velen, and argue over arranging the furniture in a house the majority of gamers will probably never see. We’re not the kind of people who are easily satisfied and we always strive for more. I’d like you to know that.

Yes, six million copies is a great achievement for a company making RPGs, but this business is not only about that. If our games are a gallery of sound, picture and text – you are the visitors of this gallery. To an artist, there’s no sweeter sight than people enjoying their work. That’s why, in the name of all the devs in the studio, I’d like to say thanks to each and every one of you.

Thanks!

Adam Badowski,
Head of Studio
CD PROJEKT RED

CD Projekt RED’s dedication to the game’s development and support, with its regular updates and free DLC, seems to have won the hearts and minds of gamers across the globe.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

DO NOT Download the New The Witcher 3 DLC!

CD Projekt Red’s attitude towards gamers is exemplary. Not only is the company responsible for the marvellous GOG online game distribution platform, which offers games at competitive prices and, importantly, no DRM, it has been offering regular DLC content for it latest game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, for free.

This week was meant to be a fallow period, with no DLC expected for release, so many gamers must have been delighted to receive a surprise e-mail announcing that new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt content was available for download. Sadly, it seems that the DLC was released early by mistake and, as such, should absolutely not be downloaded.

Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red’s Community Manager, has warned The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt players through his Twitter account to avoid the DLC until it has been finished:

So do not download it. Any The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt owners that have already downloaded the content have been advised to delete it immediately or risk encountering problems with their game. Even if everything seems fine, it’s best not to risk compromising the integrity of the game, especially since the DLC could compromise the forthcoming 1.07 patch, which is due later this week.

Thank you Twinfinite for providing us with this information.

Witcher 3 Patch 1.07 to Fix Even More Issues

Patch 1.07 is going to be a big one, according to Marcin Momot from CD Projekt Red. It shall be fixing many issues in the not so long ago released game.

“The 1.07 is actually going to be a pretty large patch. We are already working on it. It’s not going to be too long before it comes out. Can’t talk about the detailed list of changes but it will feature A LOT of fixes” Momot stated on the official forums.

Players who own the PS4 and Xbox-one versions of the game will need to wait before they can download patch 1.05 as the team are still working on it. He confirmed that it is still going ahead on Twitter but not this week.Obviously the hold back in releasing the update has angered some users who have now started to accuse the company of favouring PC gamers.

However, it may seem like it but it is definitely not the case. Releasing console patches is no easy task as they have to be code reviewed and certified by the console vendor before they are released to end users systems. Momot defended against the console users claims though:

“Consoles have some other issues (some are really time-consuming to fix) and we want to make sure everything works as intended when released. We ask for a little bit more patience. After 1.05, there will be a huge patch coming up next (it’s already in the works).”

He also confirmed that they haven’t abandoned the framerate issue with the PS4.

“As I wrote before, once we have some details to present, we will. We have not abandoned this issue – we are working on addressing it.”

Nice to see they’re still working away for us to have the best experience. I guess we will see what the changes bring.

AMD Catalyst 15.5 Beta to Fix The Witcher 3 and Project CARS Issues

AMD gamers hoping to enjoy the recent releases The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Project CARS were left disappointed by the myriad of bugs encountered by Radeon users, with many pointing the finger at NVIDIA’s GameWorks technologies causing issues with AMD’s rival hardware.

NVIDIA were keen to dispel any notion that it was in any way attempting to nobble the opposition, releasing the following statement on reddit:

The assumptions I’m seeing here are so inaccurate, I feel they merit a direct response from us.

I can definitively state that PhysX within Project Cars does not offload any computation to the GPU on any platform, including NVIDIA. I’m not sure how the OP came to the conclusion that it does, but this has never been claimed by the developer or us; nor is there any technical proof offered in this thread that shows this is the case.

I’m hearing a lot of calls for NVIDIA to free up our source for PhysX. It just so happens that we provide PhysX in source code form freely on GitHub (https://developer.nvidia.com/physx-source-github[1] ), so everyone is welcome to go inspect the code for themselves, and optimize or modify for their games any way they see fit.

Thankfully, AMD has announced the AMD Catalyst 15.5 Beta driver to repair issues with both The Witcher 3 and Project CARS. The driver even includes a workaround that allows HairWorks to run on its GPUs, even allowing enhanced performance over GeForce users that don’t have Maxwell architecture NVIDIA GPUs.

“We will release AMD Catalyst 15.5 Beta on our website as soon as it is available,” AMD says.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to be Bundled Free with GTX 900(M) Series

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the forthcoming RPG said to feature the pinnacle in terms of graphical opulence, will be a free bundled game with purchases of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX(M) series of graphics cards, according to VideoCardz.

NVIDIA has already shown its love of The Witcher 3’s graphics, using the game for its HairWorks demonstration at Gamescom in August last year. The game also utilises NVIDIA’s APEX technology to produce more realistic clothing and more detailed carnage.

According to the promotional poster (above), if true, any customer who buys a GeForce GTX 960, 970, or 980 will qualify for the free game offer, though notebook owners will need a GeForce GTX 970M or better to be eligible.

CD Projekt Red Accused of “Downgrading” Graphics in The Witcher 3

CD Prokect Red has only just announced a 3 month delay to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but now the developer is being accused of downgrading the graphics, something that was revealed to the Internet in the latest trailer to the game.

There’s a new trailer that features “low-resolution environmental and character textures” reports WCCFTech, with some fans of the game taking to CD Projekt Red’s YouTube channel and forums. One fan, JohnReese, wrote “The downgrade is real. I refused to believe it at first, but it’s pretty obvious now. Still a good trailer though, and I’m sure the game will be amazing nonetheless.” JohnReese was replied to by CD Projekt Red’s Community and Website Coordinator Marcin Momot, who said:

“I believe some explanation is required here. Unfortunately this time we’ve encountered some horrible YouTube compression problems. At this very moment we are working on fixing this and will upload another version of the trailer as soon as we can. It will present much higher quality. I want to assure you that there will be no downgrade – I see this game every day – it looks stunning.”
