Star Wars: Episode VIII Starts Shooting – New Cast Members Confirmed

Following hot on the heels of the global event that was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney has confirmed that the sequel, currently operating under the name Star Wars: Episode VIII, has started shooting. The latest major entry in the Star Wars saga – not including the forthcoming Anthology movies, with Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One hitting cinemas this December – is written and directed by Rian Johnson, best known for time travel caper Looper and high school film noir Brick.

To celebrate filming commencement, Disney has released a short production teaser:

Disney also announced the film’s cast, both returning actors and new additions, confirming the previously-rumoured involvement of Benicio Del Toro. On the official website, the video was accompanied by the following announcement:

“Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.  New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII is released in cinemas on 15th December, 2017.

Kid Banned From Wearing Star Wars T-Shirt in School

A 7th grade school student has been banned from wearing his Star Wars: The Force Awakens T-shirt at his US school. Colton Southern was told by faculty at George Junior High School in Rosenberg, Texas that he was not permitted to have the graphic on the front of his Star Wars T-shirt exposed at school as the Stormtrooper on the front is carrying a gun (or, in Star Wars parlance, a blaster), the boy’s father revealed to abc13 News.

“It’s political correctness run amok. You’re talking about a Star Wars t-shirt, a week before the biggest movie of the year comes out. It has nothing to do with guns or making a stand. It’s just a Star Wars shirt,” said Joe Southern, Colton’s father. “He’s a Boy Scout, active in church, volunteers at Brazos Bend State Park. There’s not a violent bone in his body. He’s just an excited kid for the movie.”

According to a spokesperson from the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District, which is the jurisdiction George Junior High School falls within, the LCISD secondary school handbook lists “symbols oriented toward violence” as a violation of its dress code. The administrators add that Southern was not reprimanded, and was only advised to zip up his jacket.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Has Already Grossed $50 Million in Pre-Sales

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is predicted to smash box office records and has already amassed $50 million in advance ticket sales. Furthermore, Fandango told Variety that The Force Awakens is the biggest pre-seller in the company’s history. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s pre-release sales are twice the amount of the previous record-holder, The Dark Knight Rises. Additionally, MovieTickets.com, reported that advance sales for Star Wars are the highest on record. As you can see, tickets are selling incredibly fast as Star Wars fans desperately try to attend the film’s launch.

Cinemas are even considering to offer more seats and judge how much room they can allocate to avoid disappointment. As the first Star Wars film by Disney, there is a great deal of pressure to produce a film which lives up to the original trilogy. As a result, it’s quite easy to leave people disappointed as meeting their extremely high expectations is a difficult task. Nevertheless, Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks fantastic from the official trailer and I cannot wait to see how well it’s received by the public.

Are you planning to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens on release? I’m tempted, but usually prefer to watch films from the comfort of my living room.

Turtle Beach Reveal New Battlefront & X-Wing Pilot Gaming Headsets

Turtle Beach are on of the biggest names in the gaming peripherals market, and Star Wars is one of the biggest names in movie history. With Star Wars set to enter the realm of gaming once again, which the launch of Star Wars: Battlefront, is was only a matter of time before a brand launched a special edition headset, or two, to celebrate.

The Star Wars themed Sandtrooper and X-Wing Pilot gaming headsets are the perfect match for fans of Battlefront, although I personally think they look pretty cool in general, so perhaps you don’t have to be a hardcore Star Wars fan to enjoy them.

The Sandtrooper headset (above) is themed after the squad of Stormtroopers donning the signature orange shoulder pauldron and is available for a MSRP of £69.99.

The celebrate Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the X-Wing Pilot headset is themed after the signature orange jumpsuits worn by Rebel Alliance pilots and is based on Turtle Beach’s all-new lightweight and comfortable entry-level Recon series design and features a very reasonable MSRP of £34.99.

Star Wars is one of the hottest, must-have consumer brands heading into the holiday season and we’ve got two truly unique, high-quality Star Wars-inspired headsets fans will definitely want to add to their collections,” said Juergen Stark, CEO, Turtle Beach Corporation. “Turtle Beach is filled with hardcore fans, so it’s been a real pleasure for us to design these two headsets that will let gamers further immerse themselves in theStar Wars universe.”

Star Wars Battlefront launches November 19, 2015 on the PS4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC. The Star Wars Battlefront Sandtrooper and Star Wars X-Wing Pilot Headset are available now. Which of the two headsets would you rather own?

Harrison Ford Originally Wanted Han Solo to be Killed Off

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is tantalizingly close and only 49 days until it’s finally seen by record audiences across the world. As a huge fan of the original trilogy, I’m intrigued by the complete lack of information regarding the main story. This means, the plot is a complete mystery and has the potential to blow people away! While Luke Skywalker is the main protagonist, many feel more connected to Han Solo. One could argue, Harrison Ford’s career progressed much faster than Mark Hamill thanks to Star Wars.

In an interview on the Jimmy Kimmel show, Harrison Ford discussed his desire to make the writers kill off Han Solo:

“I asked him to ask the writers to kill me off, because I thought that it would be good that the character who appeared to have not so much of a complex interweaving with the theme of the Force and all that good stuff…”

“I thought it would be good that the character, if he sacrificed himself in some noble way.”

This is an interesting piece of information and makes me ponder about the series continuing without Han Solo. If he was killed off in Episode 4, or 5, it would have been such a major shock. In my opinion, I feel George Lucas and the writing staff made the correct decision. Perhaps, they wanted to focus on Han’s relationship with Leia instead.

Stormtrooper Chargers Were Rolling The Streets of New York

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is probably the highest anticipated motion picture of the year, even tho it barely makes it in with a launch date set for December 18th. With such a high-profile movie coming out, the advertising and PR departments are turning and coming up with ideas to promote the movie and its associated merchandise even more. Dodge provided eight Chargers, including a Hellcat, for a Hot Wheels promotion with Uber on Friday in New York that coincided with the toy car maker’s release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise.

The Dodge Chargers take on the look of the Hot Wheels Stormtrooper cruiser and were a perfect fit for the event. In return that meant that meant that Uber users were able to ride in the Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Chargers for free by using the promotional code HOTWHEELSFF. Riders in the Chargers also received an official Star Wars: The Force Awakens Hot Wheels diecast car.

“The Dodge Charger embodies the look and feel of the Hot Wheels Stormtrooper diecast car and is sure to turn heads when traversing on the streets of NYC on Force Friday”, said a Hot Wheels official while a Fiat Chrysler spokesperson said that it was a one-time promotion independent from the companies recently announced promotional partnership with Lucasfilm.

It is no real surprise that the event was held on Friday as it was the official day where Walt Disney Co. started to roll out the merchandise for the new movie on a global scale.

Star Wars Fan Makes His Own BB-8 Robot

How are you finding the first footage of Star War’s BB-8 robot? Pretty interesting, isn’t he? Well, if you like him a lot, you probably should know that a Star Wars fan out there made a perfect replica and it actually moves!

The first time we saw BB-8 was in the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens movie, where he was running towards or away from something on a desert plateau. Remember? No? Then you can view it again below.

Christian Poulsen, an industrial designer, is the man behind the fan-made BB-8 robot. He made the robot from a Sphero robot ball by cutting it up, painting it and adding a magnet to keep BB-8’s head on the rotating body. The best part about it stand in the BB-8 droid being controlled via Bluetooth with the Sphero app!

If you wish to follow his work and make your own, Poulsen revealed a guide for you to follow.

Regardless of whether you plan on making you own little droid or not, a lot of BB-8 toys and other Star Wars goodies should hit the market as soon as the movie title launches. Excited? I know I am!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Second Official Teaser Trailer Released!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens just got its second teaser trailer released, and it is epic! I mean, how can it not be? Star Wars fans were already hyped after J.J. Abrams announced the movie is in the works, and now an official trailer?

The trailer begins with an inspiring description of the Empire and that it has not collapsed entirely, displaying a downed imperial star destroyer ship on a desert planet. I also believe that Luke Skywalker’s voice brought tears to loyal Star Wars fans, stating that “the force is strong in my family”, “my father had it”, “I have it”, “my sister has it”.

Of course, a Star Wars movie and Skywalker is not complete with his loyal companion, R2-D2, who is displayed in a scene where Luke reaches out and comforts him after the craziness that they all faced. However, there is bound to be more of that filled with action and adventure.

At the end, the trailer displays glimpses of the cast and gives a brief description of what people should expect when the trailer will launch this Christmas holiday. Are you eager to watch the latest Star Wars movie? How can you not be? I mean, put me in a cryo stasis and wake me up when it launches!

Rumors Point to Star Wars 1313 Ressurection

Star Wars 1313 was first announced back in 2012 and was cancelled a year later. The game was intended to be an open-world adventure set in Level 1313, an underground den found in Coruscant, having confirmed after the cancellation that the lead character was indeed Boba Fett.

Star Wars 1313 will feature epic action adventure game play including exotic weaponry and gadgets that bounty hunters depend on for survival. In addition, the game will feature a combination of agile cover-based combat, epic platforming and seamless playable cinematic game play. Players will experience awe-inspiring and action-packed cinematic sequences, constantly staying engaged through the threat, pressure and tension of this criminal underworld.

StarWarsHQ and GameInformer state that Amy Henning, the lead writer of the Uncharted series, is currently working on a new Star Wars game, which they believe is actually Star Wars 1313. It would make sense since a large buzz was made when the game was first announced in 2012.

Disney and EA could profit a lot out of this, given the fact that the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released this Christmas as well. However, rumours could turn out to be just rumors too; let’s hope that they’re true!
