This battlefield 4 player has clearly gotten to know the game inside and out. A video was posted on YouTube a short while ago showing how this player gets a phenomenal kill streak.
He picks up an SV-98 sniper rifle equipped something rather strange, not a typical sniper telescopic sight but instead, an iron sight. When I saw him do it I thought he was crazy. However, he manages to get a whopping kill streak. A regular scope is rather hard to use in close quarters so the best thing to do is to go with a small scope or just plain iron sights. But it’s really hard to be successful rocking a single-shot bolt-action rifle and iron sights at close range.

As you can see on his stats on the bf4stats website, he is a seasoned player. Clocking up over 73 days of play time (1768 hours!).
He has played 8000 rounds and is ranked in the top 1% in the rankings. With 171,594 kills, 24,006 pf those being headshots. His favourite gun is an AEK-971 with the m16A4 being julle669’s second favourite weapon. He also seems to like his aircraft, having spent 117 hours in an AH-6J and gaining 19,908 kills with it. Julle993 doesn’t seem to hold back on the battlefield.

Security is of key importance for a lot of people, be it locking your door before you leave for work or having your phone so you can call people if something happens. We all like that kind of security, but some are most vested in developing it beyond what we currently have.
When it comes to the Army, security is even more important where the perimeters of their bases are at stake. A new prototype being tested at Fort Bliss is looking at replacing the three or four guards in a tower by one in a command bunker. The new system, dubbed ‘Tower Hawk’, looks to pack a Browning 50 caliber machine gun and a .338 Lapua sniper rifle atop a tower that can be unpacked in less than an hour by six soldiers.
The system was revealed at the Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) 16.1, an event that is designed to allow NATO members to share their new technologies. With all the stations wired together it means that one soldier can replace several on lookout duty, with the ability to defend their outposts from the safety of a bunker.
With a person controlling the system, and the ability to look out and defend the output while protecting lives all through a networked system.
We have come to a point where we embed a lot of technology to weapons, sometimes even too much technology. This is the case of TrackingPoint, a company that makes such smart weapons. One sniper rifle the company produces is so advanced that it would make anyone a pro-marksman when fired. But, as expected for something this advanced, the gun can be hacked.
A group of hackers found a way to hack the sniper rifle via Wi-Fi. Yes, the gun actually has a Wi-Fi antenna that lets you connect and stream its view to other devices. However, the Wi-Fi is off by default. Turning it on, the hackers proved that adjusting some variables can alter the target, so you might be aiming for something, but eventually hitting an entirely different target in the end.
The hack is also very advanced in a way, being able to tap into the ‘root’ permissions of the gun. This means that a hacker can be granted full access to the gun and even lock the user out of it. However, one truly relieving thing is that the gun cannot be fired remotely, requiring manual trigger fire at all times. Hackers can still remove the safety mechanism, so this is still a bit worrying.
From the looks of it, hacking the gun proves to be a challenge. First of all, the Wi-Fi needs to be on, but since most people use sniper rifles in the wilderness and not in their back yard, the likeliness of it being on is next to zero. Even so, the hacker needs to be next to the gun, so as previously mentioned, hiding in a bush with a laptop is also not practical. It might sound next to impossible to hack it, but the hackers tell that malware can be installed on it, so an attacker can somehow hack it at some point and have it targeting or altering stuff at a certain time and place.
All this makes you wonder, doesn’t it? We previously mentioned about machine guns that can target and decide when to shoot and those most likely have Wi-Fi connectivity as well. Once we get to that point where autonomous guns and military machines become more popular, what would happen if someone were to ‘accidentally’ place a malware on one of their networks? A Halo player by the name of Lawrencce 1 apparently made the most ridiculously amazing shot in Halo, and probably even in the history of gaming. You can watch the footage below.

“Of course the kill was intentional!! I accurately predicted the spawn of the player after I killed him for the first time, knew exactly where he was positioned when he shot at me and therefore deliberately ricocheted the bullet of three surfaces to take him out, it was very simple really!
…That was a joke of course, I am well aware that this kill was probably the luckiest I’ve ever seen on Halo. I got the kill and initially thought that it was nothing more than a decent no-scope, but when I later reviewed the footage in theatre mode, it turns out that the bullet ricocheted THREE times before landing in the head of the opposition player. I know that I was incredibly fortunate and the only purpose of this video is to entertain, I am not professing to be anything more than a slightly-less-than-averagely skilled Halo player, I play the game for fun and for moments such as this one! Judging by his comment, he does indeed agree this was one of those epic moments when a shot is fired at the exact spot and time. Even so, the shot is truly amazing!

For a long time, long distance small weaponry has been ruled by snipers, but with technology advancing so fast these days, lasers are getting in on the action. Being able to attack targets on both land and air allows for more usages too and all at a much lower cost. Manufacturer Lockheed Martin has been working on a new laser, named ATHENA, which could be used to stop a vehicle without lethal force. Using fiber-optics, ATHENA can burn through the engine manifold of a truck from over a mile away.
In the test, the truck was running, but was propped up, rather than moving. Unlike Hollywood’s lasers, ATHENA simply rendered the truck immovable rather than blowing it up with gorgeous effects. Lockheed hopes this will prove to be much more useful against vehicles that might be armed with explosives, with the intent of being a mobile bomb for civilian or military structures.
Based on Lockheed’s ADAM system, lasers used to shoot down enemy rockets in mid air, ATHENA uses a technique called “spectral beam combining,” in which multiple laser modules combine into a single that is high quality and powerful. Unfortunately I doubt these will be available to the public, but how could would it be to have a mini Death Star laser for those annoying planets in your way?
We have seen a lot of advancements in military equipment and devices in recent years, but it seems that there is more to come. The latest news shows that the US military has been testing .50-calibre bullets with in-flight guidance systems, having the ability to turn the projectiles into small homing missiles.
The miniaturized homing missiles are apparently being made by Darpa’s Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance, or EXACTO for short, having them be designed with the ability to adjust their trajectory in-flight in order to hit targets that are not precisely aimed. This means that every bullet can hit any type of target, including moving, high-speed or long-range targets, without the need to compensate with other external factors, such as weather, wind or even elevation in some cases.
“For military snipers, acquiring moving targets in unfavourable conditions, such as high winds and dusty terrain commonly found in Afghanistan, is extremely challenging with current technology. It is critical that snipers be able to engage targets faster, and with better accuracy, since any shot that doesn’t hit a target also risks the safety of troops by indicating their presence and potentially exposing their location.” say Darpa on their website.
It is said that the EXACTO system is made up of both the bullet and the guidance system which tracks and delivers the projectile to the target. The bullets themselves are said to be the size of a large pen, having them to fit in both .50-calibre snipers and machine-guns. However, the new tech is still far away from reaching the battlefield. While tests show the first ever projectiles and their results in the field, more tests are said to be required in order to make the new tech ready for the actual battlefield.
Valve have announced that they are revoking the serial keys from some 7000 copies of Sniper Elite 3 after it was discovered that they had been stolen from authorised outlets and resold to unsuspecting Steam users.
Users who have purchased the game through the unauthorised outlets will find that their games will no longer run and they will have to seek a refund for their purchase, but not from Steam themselves. Rebellion have made a list of retailers that are unaffected by the key recall, with users who have had their keys revoked having to purchase another copy of the game either through Steam directly or through an unaffected retailer.
The announcement came after a retailer discovered that a number of their game keys had been stolen, with the money from the illegal sales not going to Valve or the retail distributor.
“To clarify, one of our PC retail distributors informed us that some of their allotted Steam keys were stolen,” the developer writes. “We believe these keys were then resold to multiple companies, with no payments going to either Valve or the retail distributor.”
As a goodwill measure, Steam are offering those users who have been affected a free copy of the “Target Hitler” DLC, with proof of purchase and their key needing to be provided in order to validate their claim, however the whole situation has already resulted in a large number of users venting their anger for something which genuinely was not their fault and understandably so if I might add.
It is not known at this moment in time who stole the keys and Rebellion are not making any statement as to the retail outlets that area affected, but we can probably guess that Steam may look into their security and key validation methods to prevent situations like this happening again.

With Intel’s new chipset and 4th generation processors almost upon us, you’ll find the eTeknix team working doubly hard to bring you the latest and greatest content before and during the launch, but this comes with its hiccups to say the least. With a constant new set of BIOS updates being handed to us almost daily, we are vigorously testing away, and trying to tease our readers with some visuals at the same time which is where we see ourselves today.
We wanted to show our readers a bit of an insight into some of the boards that we’re getting a chance to work with, and to talk about their features and aesthetics, while not breaking Intel NDA and getting the whip for being naughty. This is why we have a huge set of previews being released over the next coming days, showing you exactly that, while focussing mainly on the design and style among some features that are non-Intel related.
Next up in the preview arena we find the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M5; a micro-ATX form factor motherboard which is set to pack a punch, like its predecessor did with the Z77 chipset. For those not wanting to skimp all out on the fully-fledged G1.Sniper 5, a micro-ATX board has been developed to give users the power and features of a true gaming board branded under the G1-Skiller series, without losing out on any of the beneficial traits that we expect within this range.
Following on from the G1.Sniper M3, we find the M5 keeping with the colour scheme and design of the Sniper range with a black PCB and green accented components ranging from the DIMM slots to the PCI-Express lanes, even to the heatsinks.Design wise, we see the same branding being used and from attending a MSI event in London, MSI plan to release more models within the MPOWER range, offering different price points depending on the users needs.

I’ve always liked the G1-Killer range of boards, though never were a big fan of the bullets and other similar design ploys, but Gigabyte have clearly cleaned up their act and have gone down a more serious route with the G1.Sniper M5 and have opted for a simple yet effective design and have still managed to chuck on a load of features despite its micro-ATX form factor.
Now smaller components seem to be getting a lot of hype lately especially with small form factor chassis being released to the market like the BitFenix Prodigy among others, which opens up a huge pathway for mini-ITX and Micro-ATX boards, which finds the likes of Gigabyte producing more products for these markets, which is where we find the M5 suitably placed. The thing I honestly love from a personal point of view is that they still manage to include key features that we’re all used to such as improved audio, three PCI-Express x16 lanes, and overclocking technology that is generally found on higher-spec full ATX form factor products.
In summary, this is one of the boards that I’m most excited about, and that’s purely down to previous experience with the G1.Sniper M3 that seemed to keep wanting to push in terms of performance and overclockability and had no flaws whatsoever, while still maintaining a small footprint with thanks to its form factor. From a design point of view, the M5 is a personal favourite of mine and with a shiny green watercooling kit, we think modders are going to love the colour scheme and the form factor will allow for some really cool looking systems, so all we have to wait on now is to see if the performance matches this high quality of design that we’ve seen today.
