New Assetto Corsa Console Trailer Has Been Unleashed

Racing simulators including rFactor 2, Grand Prix 4, Race 07, iRacing and loads more usually remain exclusive to the PC platform. This is because the complex physics models require significant processing power and racing enthusiasts demand a stable minimum frame-rate of 60. If a simulator suddenly drops below this, it can impact on your racing line and ability to nail the fastest possible lap. Another reason why many of these games never come to consoles revolves around cost. Sim racers can spend over $1000 on wheel setups, modded frames, seats and other equipment to enhance the immersion factor. While some console players use wheels, it’s nowhere near as prevalent.

Some time ago, Kunos Simulazioni launched the final version of Assetto Corsa after being part of Valve’s Early Access programme. Prior to the release of the earlier versions, I quickly became mesmerized by Assetto Corsa’s in-game footage and fell in love with the exceptional graphical fidelity. I was lucky enough to be sent an early copy of the game and try out the physics model using various setups. Without going into too much information, I honestly believe Assetto Corsa is one of the best simulators ever produced and easily worth the asking price. It’s challenging but fair and has a progressive physics model to help players of various skill levels.

In a rather surprising move, Kunos Simulazioni announced the upcoming release of the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is absolutely brilliant news for sim racing fans wanting to enjoy Assetto Corsa on a modest setup. It’s quite rare to see this kind of accessibility in a racing simulator. Today, the company unveiled the latest console trailer entitled ‘Engineered to Perfection’:

Even if you only have a passing interest in motorsport, I’d recommend checking out the video to see why there’s so much excitement surrounding this game.

The “Political Machine” Lets You Run For President

The various campaigns from hopeful candidates aiming to be the next president of the United States feels as if it has been going on forever, from Donald trump and his controversial views to Hillary Clinton and her private email scandal, it really feels like Groundhog day. Hoping to harness the political interest is a games developer by the name of “Stardock Entertainment” who has both developed and also released a game by the name of “The Political Machine”.

Below is a summary of the key features of this game along with a selection of screenshots,

  • Mudslinging – Use your power and money to purchase ads and influence voters.
  • The game has over a dozen political candidates – Play as one of the several pre-made candidates like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
  • Scandals – the game includes such real-life scandals as email hacking, affairs and also natural disasters.
  • Custom built candidates – Create your own custom front-runner and race for the White House.

Below is the first screenshot, as you can see, it’s not the most high-tech game in the world in terms of graphics, although it does capture Donald Trump.

The next screenshot is below and conveys how your chosen political figure will perform in terms of how many votes will be gained and also who will win each state.

Below is a trailer video to convey the style of this game,

The specifications for this game are below, if your thinking of running this title then it should be pretty straightforward.

  • Operating System – Windows 10 / 8 / 7 SP1 / Vista SP2
  • RAM –  1 GB RAM
  • Graphics – 64 MB DirectX 9.0c 3D Video Card with Pixel Shader 2.0 Support
  • CPU –  1 GHz Processor
  • Hard Drive Space – 1 GB HD space
  • Sound Card – DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound card

The game is priced at $7.49 and is available through Steam, Stardock themselves and also a digital download.

WRC 5 eSports Competition Hidden Behind DLC Paywall

Italian developer, Milestone produced a number of officially licensed world rally games which left racing aficionados disappointed due to the sub-par graphics, synthetic audio design and lacklustre career mode. Eventually, the company lost the WRC license and decided to work with rallying legend, Sébastien Loeb. The latest WRC game was created by Kylotonn, formerly known as 4X Studios. Unfortunately, this release has received a fairly mixed reception with the general consensus describing the game as competent but no match for Codemasters’ DIRT Rally. In a press release, the company outlined their plans to create a highly competitive eSports scene. However, as astounding as this might seem, they are going to charge players to compete in any eSports event. The press release reads:

“Players just need to download one of the eSports Pack (the first DLC that is currently available is priced at $7.99/£6.49) to get access to the dedicated stages of each rally. From this moment, practise is unlimited but during the rally weekends, they will have only one opportunity each day to record their best time (from Thursday to Sunday noon). On Sunday afternoon, the ESL crew will invite the best drivers for a Sunday tournament which will be broadcast on Twitch. At the end of this Sunday Tournament, the best 3 drivers on each platform will gain their access to the semi-final and to the grand Finale. See the calendar below for more details.”

To access an eSport event, you have to pay $7.99/£6.49 for one of the eSport packs in addition to the base game. This is unbelievable and bound to destroy any hopes of creating a large online community. It’s also quite insulting and I cannot believe they have attempted to charge for competitive play. Clearly, many publishers are looking for new avenues to make money, but it’s occurring at the expense of player engagement.

Gran Turismo Sport Concept Art Leaked

Gran Turismo revolutionized the racing genre on consoles due to the enticing career mode, superb car selection and advanced physics model. Sadly, in recent years, the series has floundered and struggled to compete with Forza’s yearly release cycle. Additionally, Gran Turismo 5 was a major disappointment and I didn’t really find Gran Turismo 6 enjoyable either. Strangely enough, Gran Turismo 6 doesn’t pose any challenge in terms of the license events, or competition from the AI. In an ideal world, Polyphony Digital should have released Gran Turismo 7 as a PlayStation 4 launch title, but this didn’t happen and their projects usually take a long time to complete.

Thankfully, Gran Turismo Sport was announced some time ago during the Paris Games Week although we don’t know what this will actually entail. Apparently, it’s not a small demo of Gran Turismo 7 like earlier concept titles and should provide a fulfilling experience. According to Website GTPlanet, the Gran Turismo offices contained concept art on the wall during the Christmas period of the upcoming game! Super GT drivers Kohei Hirate and Satoshi Motoyama, and Toyota’s Masashi Honda publicly unveiled the images which are listed below:

There is still some speculation regarding the authenticity of some of the images, as they look photo-realistic. I’m pretty sceptical about the snapshot with trees in the background but perhaps the studio has found a way to implement satellite images into the render. However, this is very unlikely and wishful thinking. Whatever the case, I cannot wait to see Gran Turismo Sport and hope it provides the stopgap needed to please racing fans before the release of Gran Turismo 7.

DIRT Rally Will Run at 60 FPS on Xbox One And PlayStation 4

DIRT Rally originally launched via Steam’s Early Access programme and received widespread acclaim from racing enthusiasts. In the past few years, I’ve been very critical of Codemasters and displeased with the direction of the DIRT series. Instead of focussing on traditional rallying with superb physics, the team decided to incorporate stunt events and make a spin-off entitled, DIRT Showdown which revolved around destruction derby events. Thankfully, DIRT Rally is a return to form and easily the best product from Codemasters since the original Race Driver GRID.

Unlike the its predecessor, DIRT Rally is unforgiving and requires a great deal of layout memorization. Furthermore, any damage carries onto the next stage, and your engineering team can only repair so much in a limited window. If you’re into simulators like myself, then DIRT Rally is an absolute classic and well worth checking out. However, it might frustrate users looking for a more simcade-like experience. As a result, this hardcore difficulty made it the perfect choice for PC gamers where there is a long-standing history of racing simulators. This means, it was uncertain if the game would ever launch on the current crop of consoles.

Thankfully, Codemasters has now confirmed the game will launch on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Additionally, a team member said that the game will run at 60 frames-per-second on both consoles:

However, there might be some concessions made to reach this framerate:

The most likely scenario is a 60 frames-per-second framerate around 1080p on the PlayStation 4 and probably 900P on the Xbox One. It’s pretty shocking that the current console generation cannot handle 1080P 60 FPS, but the power isn’t there for developers to properly utilize.

Squadron 42 Reveals Voice Actors And Footage

Star Citizen is not only one of the most crowd funded games in history but is easily one of the most anticipated, with the ability to go from piloting a ship and ordering your friends to pilot the ships turrets to boarding and fighting your way through someone else’s ship as a group, eventually taking it over. Piloting, trading and boarding, Star Citizen looks to be an all-encompassing space game. While we await this game we shouldn’t forget the single player campaign, titled Squadron 42, and I doubt after the recent revelations regarding it, we will be able to forget it again.

Set for a release in 2016, Squadron 42 will see its players take the role of a UEE Navy combat pilot, letting you fight both in space and on land as you build everything from your character to the relationships you have with others characters aboard a large Capital Ship.

To bring life to the story, Star Citizen has hired none other than Gary Oldman, Mark Hamil, Gillian Anderso and Andy Serkis among some of many to bring life to the universe. If you were wondering just how awesome that would make the game, find Gary Oldman’s character, Admiral Bishop, explaining the world you are about to fly into.

Forza Motorsport 6 Has Gone Gold! Demo Coming September 1st

Forza Motorsport 6 is speeding into the homes of Xbox One racing enthusiasts extremely soon and heralded as the “best racing game” during Gamescom 2015. In two weeks, Forza Motosport 6 will be available to download for owners of the Ultimate Edition and consumers opting for the standard version will gain access 5 days later. Turn 10 Studios has scheduled a demo for September 1st to whet your appetite and revolves around the iconic Ford GT. Rather surprisingly, downloading the demo allows you to keep this vehicle and use it in the full game for free.

As an authentic racing simulator, it’s imperative to hone the physics system, and create a smooth, realistic experience. Forza Motorsport 6 runs at a native resolution of 1920×1080 and 60fps. As a result, the driving is extremely fluid whilst emphasizing the Xbox One’s visual capabilities. In total, there are 460 cars to choose from and the latest additions include:

2015 Mercedes-AMG GT S
1979 BMW #6 BMW Motorsport M1 Procar
2015 Volvo S60 Polestar
2014 Audi #45 Flying Lizard Motorsports R8 LMS ultra
2014 BMW #5 Ebay Motors 125i M Sport
2014 Chevrolet #3 Corvette Racing Corvette C7.R
2015 Jaguar XKR-S GT
1976 Lotus #5 Team Lotus 77
1969 Lola #10 Simoniz Special T163
2014 Ferrari California T

The full 460 car list is available via Forzamotorsport.net and there’s bound to be something to suit even the most die-hard motorsport aficionados. Personally, I was fairly disappointed with the complete lack of content in Forza Motorsport 5 and hope this was due to time constraints surrounding the Xbox One’s launch. Over the years, Forza has established itself as a superb racing game and not just a clone of Gran Turismo. In fact, Forza’s physics model, interior renders and engine noises are vastly superior to Gran Turismo’s latest efforts.

Mad Catz Supports Virtual Farmers With New Hardware

Mad Catz recently branded out into the Music games with their Rock Band deals, but there are more simulation genres to be conquered; the next on is farming. The Farming Simulator game has become quite popular and had many versions up until now.

Mad Catz now brings the exclusive hardware specially designed for farming. The Tractor Steering Wheel, the pedals and the side panel you need to play Farming Simulator 15 the best way possible. If you would couple this hardware with an Oculus Rift, then you truly get close to the real experience.

Pre-orders can be placed now and the actual hardware is scheduled to be available this fall. The hardware is officially licensed and compatible with Farming Simulator 2013 and 2015 as well as the upcoming Faming Simulator 2015 Gold Edition and future GIANTS Software titles in the series.

The highly realistic Tractor Wheel & Pedal Set provides enthusiasts with a center-sprung, properly tilted wheel, complete with turn-knob providing 900 degrees of rotation.

The Vehicle Side Panel has over 25 programmable buttons for total control. The realistic front loader control stick finishes the sensation of true mastery over heavy machinery.

You can pre-order the new hardware now at the official Saitek Mad Catz Farming Simulator page. The new hardware will already be on display at the E3 expo.

“Our Saitek brand of simulation products strive for authenticity, quality and attention to detail and we believe that Farming Simulator enthusiasts will be impressed with our forthcoming range of hardware,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “We are pleased to offer fans the opportunity to pre-order the range of products and look forward to them contributing to our growth in 2015 and beyond.”

As for the price, the Wheel and pedals set will cost you $149.99 and the same goes for the Side panel. A complete pack with all three items will also be available for $299.99, which actually is a cent more than buying the individual packs.

Farming Simulator 15 Trailer Released

Best flock to the shop as soon as possible, farming Simulator 15 for consoles is on its way.

The launch is on the 19th of may for the PS4, X-box One,PS3 and the X-Box 360. The release means good news for console gamers; they will get all of the features that the PC edition has. Mainly the online co-op feature.

This allows you to be able to share your land and farm with other online players and team up to create your own wonder farm. Most people, however just descend into madness and set up a mass game of tractor racing across one of the maps.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions are available for pre-order at the fine-grained price of £35 and the Xbox 360 version is a little cheaper at £27

The Farming Simulator Creators (Giants Software) have released that there are over 100 vehicles and tools available in the game; there are 40 licensed brands of equipment too so you can ensure that you have the exact tractor for the job.

“Farming Simulator 15 invites you into the challenging world of a modern-day farmer. Take on all the challenges of farming life, including working with animals (cows, chicken and sheep), cultivating your land and harvesting crops.”

Sounds truly riveting!

Meet The IKEA Furniture Assembly Simulator

We’ve seen a host of humorous simulators recently. From Farming Simulator, Rock Simulator and of course the world-famous Goat Simulator, it seems like you’ll be able to simulate pretty much anything soon.

Well now, you can simulate everybody’s favourite task – assembling IKEA furniture. No, really. Unfortunately, it’s not called ‘IKEA Furniture Assembly Simulator’ but Improvisåtion.

It was built in 48 hours by just four people and offers both a single player and online multiplayer. Its developers call it “the most fun & accurate cooperative furniture assembly experience”. I’m pretty sure they’re the only people to have ever said that sentence.

Get it for free on both Mac or PC here and take a look at it in the video below.

Goat Simulator’s MMO Expansion Announced

Freaky, fun, fantastic and f’in crazy are usually the words I use to describe Coffee Stain Studio’s Goat Simulator to my friends when asked. Just when you thought that longevity of the game wasn’t quite there, today they’ve announced that later this month we’ll be seeing a free expansion named Goat MMO Simulator.

This expansion is said to dwell around “the faction warfare between goats and sheep” seeing you, the main hero, take the form of one of the following classes:

  • Warrior
  • Rogue
  • Magician
  • Hunter
  • Microwave

Said to include ‘dozens’ of quests and a level cap of 101 starting on November 20, it’s a ‘free DLC’ for those who already own the game on PC. In addition to this, we’ve told that Goat MMO Simulator will be available on Mac and Linux including full controller support.

Coming November 20, I’m going to forget that World of Warcraft is a thing – Please excuse me while I channel my inner microwave and start my real life preparations.. Time to call in sick to work!

Goat Simulator was released on STEAM earlier this year to a massive reception due to its crazy physics and outlandish humor, akin to somewhat of a “420 MLG Montage“, Goat Simulator is here to stay. If PC isn’t quite your thing, Goat Simulator has been released on iOS and Android with an Xbox One port on the way – although we haven’t heard if the MMO version is coming to these platforms (yet).

Awesome Dad Builds Advanced NASA Simulator For His Kids

I thought I was doing quite well this year by building my son his first gaming PC… and I am, but this guy is making other dads look bad with his incredibly NASA simulator which he built for his children.

As you can see in the video below the project includes a shuttle, mission control and even a satellite deployment system with authentic controls, sounds, the thing even shakes when more intensive systems are running. The whole thing is operated by over a hundred switches through multiple control panels, hundreds of LED lights, an Arduino controller and a Raspberry Pi computer. There is even a space to mount a smartphone to play back real NASA footage and expand the rig with extra features, a payload deployment arm and a whole lot more.

The whole thing is impressive and I don’t doubt for a minute that he’s not had a lot of fun playing with this setup himself when the kids aren’t around… actually wouldn’t mind a go myself. A great idea with flawless execution.

£3,25m Home Comes With Spaceship Simulator In Attic

Having a spare £3,250,000 ($5.3m) to spend on a house isn’t exactly something we all have, but for those that do, a certain house in South London has a little some extra to sweeten the deal.

From the outside this is just your normal big, expensive house, it’s a great looking property with classy interior and exterior, a large living room, stunning games room and conservatory, lovely garden and it’s generally pretty lush. but the real treat lies in the converted attic.

The house alone is worth the asking price, but you’ll also inherit this awesome retro spaceship simulator, full of lights, dial, ejector seats (although we suspect they’re pretend ejector units), and a rack of CRT monitors that are full of retro charm.

What is the point in all this you ask? None what so ever, it’s just an awesome room full of nerdtastic fun, I’m not sure who would enjoy this more, myself as a cool place to chill out with a few beers and a few Star Wars mods on a flight sim, or my son as a play room… it’s debatable.

Secretly, we all want a spaceship simulator in the attic.

Steamship Simulator Built Using Ai3D Unigine Features 7 x 1080p Displays

The Steamship Simulator developed by Ai3D became a highlight of the Bass Strait Maritime Centre Devonport located in Tasmania, Australia. The simulator is powered by the powerful and versatile UNIGINE Engine and provides a virtual experience of captaining a ship of the beginning of the last century into the Mersey River. It successfully completed beta testing and was even captained personally by the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.

The simulator looks like a real steamship – seven cabin windows of which are replaced with 1920×1080 HD resolution TVs. As a result, the visitor who captains the simulator is immersed into the virtual world with an impressive 180 degrees panorama view. One can control the ship using the original steamship’s helm and telegraph wired with network inputs. To complete the simulation, navigation is accompanied by full sound effects for the ambient environment and weather.

Ai3D developed the software plus interface and created a computer-simulated world of Devonport in the early 1900s with 3D ships, leading lights, lighthouses and watercraft of the era. The terrain model is based on old plans and surveys of the area. The simulator features dynamic weather, day-night cycle, visibility, swell conditions, AI controlled ships and other period watercrafts.

“Over the time we have been using UNIGINE, we have been impressed with the regular feature updates and improvements to systems and visual quality. UNIGINE’s abilities to handle very large simulation environments make it a first class realtime simulation solution,” said Steve Brodie, CEO of Ai3D.

UNIGINE Engine combines a unique mix of cutting-edge graphical technologies with features required specifically for serious games and the training and simulation market such as double precision of coordinates support, multi-channel rendering, zone-based streaming, stereo 3D, edge blending, non-linear image mapping, etc. Due to a comprehensive set of these out-of-the-box capabilities, this multi-platform 3D engine is successfully used in hundreds of distinctive projects worldwide.

Excalibur Publishing Announces A Chemical Spillage Simulation (…Yup!)

Excalibur Publishing is pleased to announce the imminent release of Chemical Spillage Simulator for PC! And you’ve just been enlisted as a novice member of the “Special Chemical Disaster Prevention Unit” and as such cannot yet be trusted to engage in highly specialised missions, obviously. However, as you progress through the ranks and further your career, you’ll be able to drive bigger vehicles and perform more dangerous missions as your experience grows.

Now while all this sounds terribly exciting I don’t need to spell it out that this game will most likely be quite… well, erm, rubbish. Yet that won’t stop it selling like crazy, like every other obscure sim game out there, Truck Simulator, Farming Simulator and more recently surgery Simulator, all of which have proved sensational for a bit of multi-player horsing around.

Your initial assignments are geared towards chemical spillage prevention but will also include extinguishing house and warehouse fires. You’ll then progress onto the recovery and analysis of chemical and radioactive materials, escorting radioactive materials transportation and a mission involving an atomic power plant.

The vehicles you’ll be in charge of include:

  • Special Chemical Analysis Vehicle where you can analyse chemical and radioactive materials
  • Fully controllable Robot Analysis Unit to collect dangerous materials
  • A truck mounted Chemical Prevention Mobile Unit. You will have to set up this unit at every hazard action site to have full access to the oil absorbing unit, bio hazard suits and the contamination meter
  • Standard fire-fighter cars are also available

The game scenario includes a completely accessible world featuring a big city, farmland, gas stations, a harbour, a hospital, an atomic plant and an industrial area too, which to my mind just reads “epic time waste” and lots of civilians to troll with the Robot Analysis Unit, I fully expect, no wait, I DEMAND to see a full on metal montage of this game within the next few weeks, don’t let me down internet!

The game is due for release on the 14th of June for £24.99, although it’s likely that a Steam sale will follow some time later this year, as they always do.

Gran Turismo 6 Release Date & More Confirmed

Gran Turismo a “Real Driving Simulator” has been announced to be coming to stores during the Holiday Season 2013. For a serious Gran Turismo fan, this is a great day for you. Last week we were told that there was going to be an announcement about Gran Turismo and its future, and today we received that update! Over the past 15 years the Gran Turismo series has sold over 70 million copies, not the best selling video game of all time, but it is really up there with the rest of them.

Gran Turismo is brought to us by Polyphony Digital a subsidiary of PlayStation, therefore it is only released on the PlayStation platform. With PlayStation 4 due for release soon, I must ask myself, why they are bringing the game out of PS3 instead of waiting for the PS4. There is no real information on how or if the PS4 will be backwards compatible, but if it is like the PS3, you will be out of luck to play your old video games, which is the man reason I stopped purchasing consoles.

Further news about Gran Turismo 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events.

Steam Weekend Sale 12-4-13

Steam are at it again! This time they are bringing some insane options to the table that couldn’t be any different from one another, in my opinion at least. As some might be aware, Steam do love a good barging for the weekend and this time they are offering a huge Half Price deal on two rather successful games, and if you have been eyeing up one of these games for a while, now is the time to buy them!

First off we have a very unique simulator game – Farming Simulator 2013, the name pretty much is a dead give away for what it is and that is being a Farmer, I won’t lie – I haven’t played the game at all so wouldn’t feel just in talking about it or even commenting on it but if you enjoy something a bit different they you can get this game for under £10 which ain’t to bad a price for a game that came out this year.

The other one is something that has had huge ravings and people love it in general, I didn’t though. But hey, I know I am among the minority when I say that as the game known as Dishonoured received nothing, but raving reviews before it even hit the shelves, slapping it squarely at just under £15 it is pretty much a steal to anyone who would be remotely interested in a fantasy, steam punk stealth game. So what are you waiting for people? IT’S GAME TIME!
