Gears of War 4 Release Date Confirmed

The Gears of War franchise has rapidly become one of Microsoft’s most successful exclusives and gained popularity for its no-nonsense, frantic action. Instead of trying to implement a heartfelt story with dramatic twists, the intense gameplay has always been the series’ main attraction. While it’s not necessarily a system seller like Halo or Forza, it’s certainly a great addition to the Xbox’s line-up. In a post on Xbox Wire, Adam Fletcher, Director of Community from the Coalition announced the release date of Gears of War 4. Here is the statement in full:

“Gears fans, mark your calendars, as the next chapter in the Lancer-revving Gears of War saga is set to begin on Oct. 11 with the release of Gears of War 4.

It’s been almost a year since Gears of War 4 made its global debut at E3 2015, and today’s announcement is set to ignite a chain of upcoming revelations about what’s in store for JD Fenix and the next generation of Gears heroes.

Gears of War 4 marks the beginning of an epic new saga for one of gaming’s most celebrated franchises, as a new band of heroes rises to confront a fearsome new threat. Harkening back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic, fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay, including brutal and intimate action, a heart-pounding campaign, genre-defining multiplayer and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 4.

Eager to get a taste of Gears of War 4 before October? Don’t miss the multiplayer beta kicking off this month!

Beginning on April 18, fans who’ve played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will be able to join the beta on Xbox One, which will expand to all Xbox Live Gold members on April 25. For more information on what to expect from the beta, check out our recent announcement highlighting the full details, and stay tuned to Xbox Wire and GearsofWar.com for more exciting news in the coming weeks and months.”

Unfortunately, the announcement doesn’t provide any information about a PC version. I fully expect the game to be released on PC in the future especially when you consider some vague statements have been made about its production. Sadly, it looks like the game will remain an Xbox One exclusive for the current period and not have a similar simultaneous release schedule like Quantum Break.

DOOM Will Not Have Microtransactions

DOOM is one of the most influential and iconic video games ever devised. ID Software’s classic first-person-shooter popularized the genre and showcased the potential of engrossing single player games on modern hardware. While Wolfenstein 3D set a fantastic framework, it didn’t have the same impact as DOOM or capture people’s imaginations. Despite DOOM’s age, it’s still holds up remarkably well and I could easily play through the entire game multiple times. Recently, I purchased the DOOM 3 BFG edition which includes all the content from the older titles, and is a great package. One strange change revolves around the medpacks now sporting a pill icon instead of the red cross. Perhaps, this is down to some copyright issued with the charity, British Red Cross.

After a long hiatus, DOOM is finally coming back, and I cannot wait to see if it honours the series’ roots. Honestly, I’m pretty hopeful because the recent Wolfenstein reboot adopted a fantastic old school feel and fast paced gameplay. It’s absolutely stunning and demonstrates that single-player focussed first-person-shooters can be released in the modern era. Sadly, modern games tend to be marred by microtransactions, season passes, DLC, and other measures designed to maximize profit. However, according to Peter Hines, vice president of marketing at Bethesda, the game will not feature any microtransactions:

This is wonderful news and reassures players that the multiplayer aspect will remain completely balanced. This is essential because various micropayments to acquire items can destroy a multiplayer community and make the progression system seem very unfair. Also, the single player aspect should have good pacing and not slowed down to encourage users to purchase items. Not so long ago, Bethesda unveiled a teaser trailer showing DOOM’s campaign. So far it looks stunning and it’s certainly going to be a day one purchase for myself!

John Romero’s New Shooter Is Like “No-One’s Seen Before”

Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein creator John Romero is working on a new shooter, which he describes as revolutionary and so “unique” that he’s “never seen a game like it.” Romero, with his wife and business partner Brenda Romero, spoke to Develop at the Ludicious games festival in Zurich, waxing lyrical about his new game and its “interesting story.”

“I don’t want to talk about it because it’s a really cool idea, it’s a unique idea. I’ve never seen a game like it,” Romero boasted.  “I’m really excited to start making it because it’s just a great idea. Instead of just pumping out game after game after game, it’s like waiting to come up with something that’s really unique, that no-one’s seen before, and enables you to make something that you hope will be really amazing. So, we’ll see. It’s got a pretty cool fiction around it. It’s got an interesting story.”

“I really like what he’s doing,” Brenda chimed in. “There’s maybe 10 people that know what it is. It’s exciting. There’s some really cool stuff he will announce.”

“It’s not like you would ever look at it and compare it to any other shooter that’s out there,” Romero added.

The new game, as-yet-untitled, is being developed by Romero Games, which was set up by John and Brenda back in 2014.

“It’s unique,” he continued. “That’s the cool thing. It’s not like you would ever look at it and compare it to any other shooter that’s out there.”

“You wouldn’t make a game if you didn’t believe it was a great idea,” Brenda added. “Hopefully nobody makes a game if they don’t believe that. You just hope that you can carry that vision in the execution.”

Consortium is Now Free on Steam For a Limited Time!

Valve often works with developers to offer free weekends on a variety of games and give users an insight into obscure experiences they might have easily overlooked. Sometimes, the studio will even allow you to retain the game after the promotion has ended. Consortium is the latest title to provide this service and can be added to your Steam library if you click the install button before the end of today. Consortium takes place onboard a futuristic aircraft and features an absolutely stunning soundtrack. During the plot, you take on the role of Consortium Bishop Six, a global peacekeeper in the year 2042, and have the freedom to change how events unfold.

The game has an overwhelmingly positive reception and excellent reviews from a wide selection of press outlets. Additionally, it adopts a really unique art style and has a captivating story. This means it’s certainly worth a look especially when there’s zero cost involved. Consortium is also seeking funds to develop a sequel which you might want to back after playing the original. Here is a rundown in the developer’s own words about the game’s unique premise:

  • The first of a planned trilogy, Consortium contains a fully resolvable arc entirely aboard Zenlil, but links to further games by a much larger story and its countless mysteries. Each subsequent title will act in this way, with both an internal story and a serialization that continues to build the alternate universe.

  • Immerse yourself in an interactive story taking place entirely aboard the C-3800-D “ZENLIL” Consortium Command vessel on December 21st, 2042…

  • Built with a modified version of the SOURCE engine, explore ZENLIL, a living and highly interactive environment with complete freedom and agency. Includes turbulence and non-scripted decompression events!

  • Engage with a cast of over 20 people in innovative and life like conversation. Over 4,000 lines of fully voiced dialogue, each choice changes how they think about you. Or choose not to engage with them at all and never speak a word!

  • Experience an all original orchestral score by award winning composer Jeremy Soule

  • Act as detective investigating an on-board murder, while simultaneously playing peacemaker to a large band of mercenaries who seem to want YOU dead. Or play diplomacy with a smoking barrel, and let the tragedies continue to mount.

  • Dive into a world with well over 150,000 words of back-story and lore, where everything you read, see, speak, or hear relates to the story and characters, and everything is there for a reason.

  • A highly original energy based inventory system with original sci-fi weapons, gadgets and armor.

  • The story unfolds based largely on your actions. You may use diplomacy and talk your way through the entire game – never shooting anyone! OR, decide to use deadly or non-lethal force.

  • Forge lasting relationships with the crew of ZENLIL, and alter the course of the story through your actions. Your choices will change your play experience, and subsequent playthroughs offer the chance to make different decisions and see all new outcomes.

  • Regardless of what you choose to do or not, the experience always moves forward, adapting seamlessly to YOU.

Have You Played These Star Wars Games?

The tales of love, war and pain have echoed for generations, both through the fans of the star wars series and even the world as a whole (we all know the “I am your father line”). Most movies these days get a video game tie-in. something which runs alongside or expands on the movie experience. Star Wars is one of the few series in the world that I can name where the fans have created something beyond the movies, from a religion to an entire universe filled with lore and legends. So why not enjoy some of the less well-known games that expand on this?

Lego Star Wars

If you are a fan of the series and have enjoyed the Lego games so far, why not try reliving all six films in Lego Star Wars – The Complete Saga. On sale for 70% off, you can experience everything from the invasion of Naboo to the battle on the moon of Endor. There’s something about Lego versions of classics movies that really makes them stand out and they all the better in split-screen co-op.

Star Wars – Republic Commando

The prequel trilogy brought us not only more story and characters, but also a whole new war. While not given much development in the films, the series that have come since have tried to expand on the Clones and given them more than “one size fits all” story lines. Republic Commando looks to do this by telling the tale of a squad of commando, who will infiltrate, dominate and destroy the federation and any that stand against them. With advanced AI and squad dynamics, it’s worth checking out, at only £2.09 till the 1st, why not?

Star Wars – Galactic Battlegrounds

We’ve seen the Empire fight the Rebels, we’ve seen the Trade Federation and the Confederate take on the Republic. So why not mix it up a little and have them fight with or against everyone else? Using the same game engine (and game mechanics) that made Age of Empires last for generations, Galactic Battlegrounds lets you fight those battles you didn’t even know you wanted to fight. Not a fan of Jar Jar Binks? See who wins in a Wookie vs Gungan all out battle, why not have the people of Naboo go against the Empire or maybe even see if the Republic could have fought off the Empire?

With the Star Wars Collection on sale from £75 to £17.47 till the first of December, it may be worth expanding on your Star Wars universe ready for the Force Awakens on the 17th.

Rainbow Six Siege Open Beta Postponed

Rainbow Six is a long series containing both books and games. Rainbow Six is a fantasy group formed from numerous armed forces and groups from around the world all with the intention of forming a united front against terrorist and organised crime around the world. Primarily strategy based shooters meaning that just running in and firing would end badly for your teams, strategies that have pulled Rainbow Six into a unique category of gaming. The problem is though that the game has been plagued by doubts in regards to several areas, such as announcing microtransactions or the large price or even the lack of single player. The latest problem though is a recent announcement on their forum, stating that their open beta will be postponed.

In the post, Ubisoft stated that due to “matching making times and connection on all platforms” they will be postponing the open beta until a later time. Just in case you were wondering why this might be an issue, the primary issue is that not only will the game remain on closed Beta for now but PC Gamer have received confirmation from Ubisoft that the release date will not be pushed back.

The release date is currently set for December 1st, meaning that the game has less than a week to go from closed Beta to full release. With them already having issues for a multiplayer only game, are you worried about what could become of the game?

Doom is Now Fully Playable Using Fallout 4’s PipBoy

Fallout 4’s passionate community is already creating a host of innovative mods to improve the user-interface. While these alterations are incredibly useful, the ability to play Doom on a Pip Boy is certainly one of the most intriguing creations. Once the mod has been installed, you can enjoy Doom in all its glory through a retro green art style which is quite reminiscent of the original Nintendo Game Boy. In theory, this shouldn’t be taken down for copyright reasons because you can download a version of Doom under the Shareware license.

Honestly, Bethesda should have included this by default as a hidden Easter egg. Although, perhaps the idea never crossed their mind. If you want to give the Doom mod a try, please visit here. Thankfully, the install process is fairly painless and shouldn’t pose a problem:

  • Goto C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Fallout4
  • Open Fallout4.ini
  • Scroll to sResourceDataDirsFinal and add “PROGRAMS\, SOUND\” to the end of the line comma included.
  • Enjoy.

Doom on a Pip Boy isn’t the definitive version but it’s an excellent mod which deserves some attention. Even more impressive, this is supposedly the creator’s first mod. Although, I’m unsure if that relates to Fallout 4 mods or modding in general. Now it’s time to ditch that calculator or Apple Watch version of Doom, and play it on a Pip Boy!

Overwatch Pricing Model Announced

The information from Blizzcon just keeps flowing. Hot on the heels of new Overwatch heroes being revealed, an interview with the director of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan brought Blizzard’s future plans for the game and the Overwatch pricing model to light.

The full notes of the Q&A session conducted by members of the Overwatch subreddit can be found here, and cover a number of topics regarding the game. And while many people’s hopes that Blizzard would use the free-to-play model for Overwatch were dashed as Blizzard opened pre-orders for the game yesterday, the topics of new heroes, potential DLC and microtransactions have been subject to mass speculation.

Firstly is the now-obvious bar to entry for Overwatch, the initial price. The base game itself starts at £29.99 for the standard edition, £39.99 for the Origin edition, featuring exclusive skins and unlocks in other Blizzard games and the currently unpriced Collector’s Edition. This physical release features a statue of hero “Soldier 76”, an artbook, soundtrack and the digital bonuses from the Origin edition. Unfortunately for those yet to get into the beta, pre-ordering Overwatch at any level will not grant you access to the beta.

For those willing to purchase the game, all of the current heroes will be available out of the gate at launch, with no intentions of including a ‘hero store’ using either real or in-game currency. It is also currently uncertain as to whether new heroes will be added at all, let alone whether they will have a price attached, instead wishing to wait for community feedback on the state of the game. All this just leaves one real concern in my mind: cosmetics. The Overwatch team are supposedly working on a third version of a progression system that may tie into the cosmetics, hopefully hinting at them being available through play. That just leaves skins up to debate, as all of the currently known skins are paid for, albeit through pre-ordering the game or purchasing the Origin Edition.

I think for many of us now, desire to get into the beta has grown, as it’s no longer just about playing the game early, but a chance to see whether the game is worth Blizzard’s asking price. Are you pleased that Blizzard seem to be avoiding the now-common freemium or pay-to-win models, or are you put off at having an upfront cost when other similar games such as Team Fortress 2 are now free?

Overwatch Reveals Three New Characters

Overwatch has been a keenly anticipated game that was recently released in closed beta for PC. With a wide variety of characters available at the moment and more being announced all the time, it’s not hard to see how the multiplayer arena game could soon see you staring at your screen for hours.

First up in the new characters is titled Mei and seems in part inspired by Mr Freeze. With a fluffy coat and large framed glasses, Mei’s unique attribute is that she is (surprise surprise) an ice type attacker, with her primary allowing you to slow and eventually freeze enemies before piercing them with her secondary attack. With the ability to summon ice walls to protect her allies and grant them access to hard to reach places, while her ultimate, Blizzard, will not only freeze but decimate an area of enemies; given her three seconds of invincibility, she can become a quite deadly defender.

Next up is D.vva, a meka pilot with fusion cannons that can be continuously fired at the cost of a slower movement speed. If that wasn’t bad enough her boosters grant her limited flight that can be used to fly around and bring destruction to anyone she sees fit. Built as a tank with a protecting wall against incoming projectiles her ultimate is a last resort, granting her access to the self-destruct matrix on her mech, after leaving it and repositioning just in time to call down her next suit.

Finally we have Genji, the cyber ninja. Left for dead by his brother Hanzo, overwatch brought the ninja into the fold after patching up with cybernetics. With the ability to throw shurikens in a steady line or a sprayed out collection, coupled with his ability to double jump and scale walls, you could soon see a white ninja sweeping down on your team with devastating effects. The high mobility continues with his dash which also inflicts bleeding damage, making his approach all that more terrifying while his reflect ability will protect his approach. While his ultimate will enchant his sword, bringing out both mystic power and cyber technology to a deadly cumulation.

Blizzards ‘Overwatch’ Beta Details Revealed

Blizzard has a long line of video games in its resume, from the Warcraft series to Diablo and StarCraft, they are remembered for a wide range of characters and settings. Most recently they pushed into the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) scene with their Heroes of the Storm. Featuring characters from all their games and a focus on objectives throughout several very different maps it has been well accepted by the public and Blizzard hope to repeat that success with their latest game idea, Overwatch.

Online FPS shooter, Overwatch, will see two teams of heroes and villains fight for control at command points and use the same objective based gameplay that made heroes of the storm popular, encouraging teamwork and consistent combat throughout. The latest on Overwatch though is good news for some and less for others.

October 27th is the official date for the start of the Beta but if you are eager to get into the game there are a few things you should be aware of.
First up the location, at the start the Beta test will only be available in America, with the rest of the world joining in at a later date (a similar release model was followed by some of their previous games). Secondly the beta testing will be broken into two groups, their core and beta weekend groups.

The core group will be responsible for the majority of the testing and will have access to the game for testing every day. This will be their core testing group, with large groups of users being invited to participate in their beta weekends for testing out just how well the game will handle with thousands of players.

Thank you Blizzard for the information.

Star Wars: Battlefront PC Requirements Revealed

Star Wars Battlefront’s release is tantalizing close and EA has scheduled a Beta phase to mark this momentous occasion. As you might expect from DICE, the PC release is visually stunning due to the Frostbite 3 engine. Throughout DICE’s history, they have attempted to bring a certain visual flair to each PC release and thoroughly test the best configurations on the market. To prepare users for the upcoming Beta, EA has announced the minimum and recommend specification:

Minimum PC System Requirements:

OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i3 6300T or equivalent
Memory: 8GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Graphics card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

Recommended PC System Requirements:

OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i5 6600 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

The minimum specification isn’t overly taxing and should be suitable for any system from the past few years. However, 16GB RAM seems absurdly high on the recommend section considering most games don’t even come close to utilizing 8GB. Apart from this anomaly, every other aspect appears to indicate a scalable PC version.

At the time of writing, some early access copies have already been issued to press outlets and streamers with a large audience. Patience is key though, as a large roll-out should happen extremely soon and there’s no need to spend ages retweeting or sharing social media posts for a code.

Are you looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront?

Is Wolfenstein The New Order Getting a Sequel?

Wolfenstein The New Order is a marvelous story-driven first-person-shooter which beautifully honored the franchise’s iconic roots. The title received widespread critical acclaim and it looks like a sequel is in production according to a TV interview transcribed by Eurogamer Poland. The channel spoke to Alicja Bachleda-Curuś who played Anya Oliwa in The New Order and claimed a sequel is underway:

“I’m working on a video game, first part of which I have already made. Now we’re making a second one, which will take two more years.

“I played this game as a child. I was very happy when I got to the point where I could shoot Hitler.”

While Bethesda is yet to confirm this, it seems quite plausible especially coming from one of the game’s leading voice talents. Wolfenstein The New Order had fairly disappointing previews but stunned everyone with its magical formula of fast-paced action and engrossing story on release. Over the years, I’ve played a whole host of first-person-shooters and Wolfenstein The New Order is definitely in my top 3. Early speculation suggests a sequel could release in 2017, but this is under very circumstantial evidence.

In the modern era of multiplayer focused games, it’s refreshing to see something set in a vibrant, engaging world which prioritizes single-player gameplay.

What is your favourite first-person-shooter of all time?

Activision Releases Downton Abbey Game

Activision, the studio behind the Call of Duty series has released a quirky, hidden object game based on ITV’s period drama, Downton Abbey. This seems like a complete world away from Activision’s usual endeavours but perhaps, there’s a scope for financial success given the TV programme’s worldwide appeal. In Downton Abbey: Mysteries of the Manor, you have to investigate a shocking burglary which occurred in your absence. Additionally, can you find all of the Crawley family’s lost trinkets? The gameplay revolves around talking to characters and earning their trust to divulge clues.

In a similar vein to other hidden object games, a large proportion of your time is spent hunting around the landscape. Here is a brief taste of what you can expect in Activision’s own words:

“Returning items to their rightful owners is a good way to earn the trust of the estate’s residents, and it will lay foundation for the abbey’s eventual restoration,”

“But choose your friends wisely. In a place where everyone has something to hide, discretion is always important.”

Downton Abbey: Mysteries of the Manor is now available on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire. The game adopts a free-to-play business model so expect heavy advertising or in-app purchases. I do find it rather amusing that the studio behind the most heavily publicized first-person-shooter can also create something so timid. Call of Duty’s player base is synonymous with terrible behaviour and petty insults. Despite this, it’s interesting to see Activision moving into different genres.

This Happens When You Mix Real Life With FPS Games and Take It to Chatroulette

We all love our video games, whatever type they might be. They are fun to play while they relax or challenge us. But what happens if you take that game into real life? The UK-based production team RealmPictures must have asked themselves the same question as that is just what they did.

The team created a live action first-person shooter in their garden and invited unsuspecting people online to take control. The best platform to do so is Chatroulette and the result is amazing. The team works by the slogan: “We make all sorts of things, but our passion is for narrative fiction and cinematic storytelling. They took that and created one of the most awesome things I’ve seen in recent times.

Whether this is a clever marketing gag to get the company name out thanks to a viral video or they just thought it was an amazing idea to do this. The result is amazing and I highly recommend to watch as unsuspecting video chatters get to control the character in this Zombie invasion game. They have to find weapons and hidden objects in order to make it through the first level.

I really don’t want to spoil too much of the video by telling you what happens, it is something that just has to be seen yourself. So enjoy these 9 minutes of real-life first person shooter video.

John Wick – First A Movie Now A VR Game

John Wick features Keanu Reeves playing an ex-mob hitman, who is actually described as the person you would send after the boogie man, seeking revenge for a mob boss who has crossed him. Soon not only could you watch John Wick on film but you could be playing him with a new VR Game set for release in 2016.

Lionsgate, the company behind the John Wick film, is partnering with the game company Starbreeze to release a VR first-person shooter based on the film. While it’s not expected till spring next year the game is set to be released for most modern VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive.

A demo for the game is set to become part of the showcase for HTC Vive World Tour, which is set to showcase VR hardware in both Europe and North America.

This is not the first time we have seen John Wick come to a video game, he was recently introduced into Starbreeze’s first person shooter Payday 2, which sees John Wick, as a free DLC released in time to coincide with the movie’s initial release, join up with a band of criminals in an attempt to pull off heists for hopes of large cash rewards.

With a sequel to the John Wick film set for next September, we can expect more from John Wick both in terms of official releases and no doubt fan requests for more games and integrations into previous games.

Is there any particular game which you would be interested to see John Wick feature in? Would you be interested in a standalone John Wick game?

Leaked Image Shows The Full Xbox 360 and Xbox One Achievements List

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall is one of the most anticipated FPS shooter games awaited from PC, Xbox 360 and One fans. The game has been made exclusively for Microsoft-based platforms due to a partnership with the company giant. Ahead of its release, it appears that a list of achievements for the title has been leaked.

Respawn Entertainment have launched the Beta testing stage for Titanfall, which turned out to be a great success having millions of Xbox One and PC gamers participating in the test. Having finalised the Beta testing, Respawn Entertainment is now focusing on polishing the bits and pieces for the official title’s launch date which will be next month.

The installation size for the Xbox One has been released by Microsoft, taking up 15.88 GB on the console’s hard drive. The PC versions should be expected at around the same size. Since its unveil at E3 2013, a lot of information has been released about the title, having gamers dribbling while anxiously awaiting its release. However, there has been one thing kept from Xbox 360 and One players. The Achievement list.

But thanks to neoGAF, and more specifically to user Sangreal, a leaked image of what looks to be Titanfall’s achievements has been revealed. It contains a total of 35 achievements, having the majority giving out a reward of 25G.

The similarity between the achievement names and in-game events adds some credibility to the leaked image, having one achievement in the list confirming Titanfall’s Prestige mode, also known as ‘Generations’. The achievement is named as “My Generation” and is described as “Become a second generation pilot.” No official confirmation in regard to the list has been made by Respawn Entertainment, therefore we will still have to wait for the game to be released in order to find out if the alleged Achievement list is actually in accordance with the game’s achievements.

Next Battlefield Game Could Ditch Military In Favour Of Police Action

Rumours are floating around about the next game in the Battlefield series, and while many of you will be thinking “what, Battlefield 4 already!”, it actually sounds like it could be massive departure from the main series. The new game is currently under development with the codename “Havana” and could see the game taking a break from military based action, to that of the police force. When we say police, we can only image it means something like SWAT, or an American police force, but of course that part remains to be seen.

The game will be developed by the team at Visceral Games, who’ve got a pretty decent track record for the kind of close quarters action that you might expect from police based encountered, given that the team has previously worked on titles such as Dead Space.

It’ll be great to see how this turns out and it’s a perfect time to re-boot what used to be one of the best parts of the FPS gaming market, anyone else remember playing SWAT for hours on end?

Bad News For Halo Fans, Halo 5 Rumored To Be Postponed Until November 2015

Some bad news is going to hit Halo fans this year, especially those who ordered the Xbox One to be able to play the latest Halo 5 title. According to a reputable poster on the NeoGaf forum, Microsoft isn’t preparing to release a true sequel in the Halo franchise until November of 2015.

Microsoft is said to bring some Halo goodies in the meantime though. There reportedly should be plenty of other Halo goodies to hold fans over until then. Within the span of a year, the source claims we will see five Halo games: Halo 2 Anniversary Edition for Xbox One on November 11, 2014, Halo 3 port for Xbox One, Halo 4 port for Xbox One and the aforementioned Halo 5.

Halo 2 Anniversary Edition is also said to ship with 1080p support and beta access to Halo 5. 60FPS support, however, is listed as “iffy” at this stage, however. It’ll arrive in two different versions: a “Collector’s Edition” and a “War Collection.” Some more rumors also include two live action video series during the same time span.

The thread also includes several other non-Halo tidbits. In no particular order, the poster claims Forza Horizon, Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive will ship later this year, Fable Legends will arrive next summer and Crackdown 3 will arrive sometime in 2016.

The whole is said to be in addition to rumors of a white Xbox One and a cheaper Xbox One minus the Blu-ray drive that was reported yesterday. Though, the rumors should be taken with a grain of salt for the moment.

Farm 51 Announces Upcoming shooter-based horror-survival Game Named Get Even

The Farm 51 has announced a next-generation shooter named Get Even. For anyone unfamiliar, the Polish developer was responsible for the creation of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, the horror-blended first person shooter that featured wild weapons and even wilder enemies. Their newest project is promising to blur the lines of single-player and multiplayer action.

The most interesting, amazing and impressive aspect about this title is the visually stunning, photo-realistic graphics. We’ve seen this type of eye-candy already with Ubisoft’s upcoming title,“The Division,” but not necessarily to the extreme of Get Even. The trailer emphasizes the “What is real?,” tag at the end, after giving us insights of some parts of the game engine and video characteristics, which in some instances cannot be distinguished between what is made by rendering engine and what is real.

Get Even is said to employ a Phantom system, much like the popular horror-action title Dark Souls. This unique vision will allow players to infiltrate the games of friends and strangers and take control of enemy units. Because of this, you won’t know if the enemies that you are fighting with in your own game are purely A.I. or are being controlled by a human.

“Weapons that fire around corners play a large part in Get Even, allowing the user to shoot from a safe position. These weapons can be linked with the player’s in-game smart phone to not only add a sight functionality, but use apps to bolster attack options. Corner-shot weapons are fully customizable throughout the game,” the developers have explained.

Get Real is expected to be released somewhere in 2015. It is said that it will be released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Battlefield 4 Banned In China

Electronic Art’s favourite multiplayer shooter game, Battlefield 4, has been banned in China starting this week due to the supposed discrediting of China’s national image in the futuristic plot line. The game is now deemed as a threat to national security in China.

It is said that the Chinese Ministry wants the game removed from physical shelves as quickly as possible, as well as all local online vendors. The Chinese ministry also wants the game uninstalled from consoles and PCs, as the game is now deemed illegal.

“Battlefield 4 is an illegal game, with content that endangers national security, and is all about a cultural invasion. Battlefield 4 relevant available downloads, patches, news, and other requirements [shall be] deleted within 24 hours.” the Chinese ministry stated.

The banning is based on the Battlefield 4: China Rising expansion pack that contains four maps on the Chinese mainland, new vehicles, new high-tech equipment, and ten new assignments. The plot consists of a fictional war in China stirred up by Admiral Chang who is out to topple the current government. Eventually, China and the U.S. team up to fight a common enemy.

News of the banning follows a report made by Chinese state-run newspaper China Military that said Battlefield 4 “smears China’s image” and is a form of “cultural invasion.” The country’s biggest social media website, Weibo.com, is already censoring out “ZhanDi4,” the Chinese translation for Battlefield 4. ZDNet reports that online users are still passing Battlefield 4 around via peer-to-peer download links.

The law office of Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP submitted a class action lawsuit against Electronic Arts in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit is on behalf of Electronic Arts common shareholders, and claims that Electronic Arts allegedly issued “materially false” and “misleading” statements highlighting the purported strength of the company’s rollout of Battlefield 4.
