Revolution Announce 25th Anniversary Collection

Without trying to sound overly dramatic, Broken Sword is one of my favourite series of all-time and genuinely increased my appreciation for video games as a work of art. Created by Revolution, Broken Sword follows the adventures of an American tourist, George Stobbart. Along the way, you encounter fiendishly difficult puzzles, hilarious characters and a gorgeous aesthetic. I’ve probably completed the first two titles at least 10 times, and fallen in love with the setting. Although, the goat section did originally require me to contact a premium cheat hotline when the internet was first in its infancy. Even if you’re not overly fond of the point and click genre, it’s well worth checking out and managed to become an integral part of my childhood.

To mark the company’s 25th anniversary, Revolution has just announced a brand new collection including the entire Broken Sword line-up and Beneath a Steel Sky. Here’s a detailed explanation of what the package includes:

“To celebrate over a quarter of a century of creating adventure games, we’re proud to announce the forthcoming release of the Revolution: the 25th Anniversary Collection box set on 11th March 2016, exclusively for PC.

As well as featuring each of Revolution’s full roster of games, the box set will also contain comic books, posters, high quality audio tracks, a Broken Sword USB, a digital timeline with extensive behind- the-scenes materials, and two hours of video telling the Revolution story. The video footage features interviews with key team members and our creative partners such as Dave Gibbons, Rolf Saxon and Barrington Pheloung.

We hope you enjoy the box set as much as we enjoyed putting it together – here’s to another 25 years!”

In terms of pricing, the boxset will cost £29.99 in the UK which is very reasonable given the huge array of extras. Furthermore, it’s great to see a physical collector’s edition for the PC in 2016. Hopefully, Broken Sword continues to be a successful franchise, and more games are produced in the near future.

Elon Musk Revolutionizes Education for Children of SpaceX Employees

“If you want something done right, do it yourself” is something that Elon Musk, CEO and CTO and Founder of SpaceX, CEO and Product Architect of Tesla Motors and Chairman of SolarCity, strongly believes in. He announced that he did not like his kids’ school, so he started his own in an interview on Beijing Television. The school is named “Ad Astra” which means “To the stars” and it does not have its own landing page or a social media presence yet.

“It’s important to teach problem solving, or teach to the problem and not the tools,” Musk said. “Let’s say you’re trying to teach people about how engines work. A more traditional approach would be saying, ‘We’re going to teach all about screwdrivers and wrenches.’ This is a very difficult way to do it. A much better way would be, like, ‘Here’s the engine. Now let’s take it apart. How are we gonna take it apart? Oh you need a screwdriver!

He says that Ad Astra currently has 14 kids and will increase to 20 in September and it is in its first year after launch. The school does not have any grade levels such that there is no distinction between students in 1st grade and 3rd. He is “making all the children go through the same grade at the same time, like an assembly line,” he says in the interview.

“Some people love English or languages. Some people love math. Some people love music. Different abilities, different times,” he says. “It makes more sense to cater the education to match their aptitudes and abilities.”

The school program is small and experimental at the moment, but considering its approach, it shouldn’t for too long. This is a significant step taken in the direction to improve the teaching methods and education pattern overall. It is nice to see folks doing such advancements in the field of humanity. Intel Teases a Revolution in SSDs with New NVMe Drive

Intel is getting ready with their newest SSD and they’ve started to tease us with it. We don’t have much information yet, but a little can be glanced from the mini site and teaser video. The video starts out with the message “Get ready for a revolution in Solid-State Drives”, a bold statement.

But those big words might very well be backed by some serious performance, actually up to four times that of SATA. We’re of course talking about the ‘new’ NVMe drives that can utilize the CPU a lot better by working with multiple cores instead of just a single one.

There is less than a week until Intel reveals the new drive, and I can hardly wait and you can follow the countdown on Intel’s mini site, if you wish to do so.

There is a hint at the end of the video towards the Intel P3700 as a base for the performance figures, but those are somewhat older cards by now. Will this be a new consumer version at a more ‘reasonable’ price? We’ll find out in about a week.

France Unhappy with Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s Storyline

Ubisoft has been copping quite a lot of flack recently. If I were to link to you all of the articles that only just eTeknix has written over the last two months, it would take me all day. But if you’re interested in what started the original ‘witch-hunt’, look no further than Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed: Unity developers claiming that 60 FPS ‘looks weird’, further stating that 30 FPS provides a much more ‘cinematic’ experience.

Former Minister and Presidential Candidate of France, Jean-Lux Mélenchon, has publicly slated Assassins Creed: Unity and it’s developing company – Ubisoft. Thanks to Polygon and TweakTown, we’ve learned that Mélenchon has stated that Unity is nothing more than “propaganda” and “favors the narrative of France’s ruling elite over the revolutionaries”.

It doesn’t stop there. Through an interview conducted on French radio and translated by the Daily Telegraph, Mélenchon’s words only got stronger. He proudly stated that “[Unity] presents an image of hatred of the Revolution, hatred of the people, hatred of the republic which is rampant in the far-right milieu” damning Ubisoft’s representation of Marie-Antionette as she is a “poor little rich girl” and a “cretin”.

There’s no doubting that many proud French citizens are quite passionate about their long history, this is the first time that we’ve seen it transfer across to hatred for a game. Mélenchon was also quite disgruntled about the representation of his people during 1789 – which is the time period that AC: unity is set in, stating:

“The man who was our liberator at a certain moment of the Revolution, because the Revolution lasted a long time, Robespierre, is presented as a monster. It is propaganda against the people, the people who are [portrayed as] barbarians, bloodthirsty savages. In 1789 there were the poor aristocrats, and they are presented as fine upstanding people”.

You know that you’ve done something very right, or very wrong when you start insulting those who would have never heard of your computer game otherwise – especially those who are diplomats. I wonder what American politicians think of Call of Duty?

We will continue to report as the story develops here at eTeknix.
