Need For Speed System Requirements Revealed

The Need For Speed franchise has really struggled to find its identity in recent years and released extremely similar experiences with just a few minor tweaks. This is a crying shame because the older games are perceived as some of the best arcade racers ever devised and appealed to a wide audience. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed the intense chases between the police and felons in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. Although, some users enjoy the whole idea of street races and tuning up vehicles.

On another note, the previous title, Need For Speed: Rivals was a complete shambles on PC and locked at 30 frames-per-second. Furthermore, the studio tied the frame-rate to the game engine’s speed which explains why the frame-rate was restricted at such a low figure. Even when you apply a manual fix, the engine almost runs in a fast forward mode, which almost defies belief! Thankfully, EA has learnt from this debacle and decided to postpone the latest Need For Speed game on PC to make it run properly.

This latest entry will support an uncapped frame-rate, ultra-high resolutions, high texture quality, and a variety of commonly used steering wheels. Today, the company unveiled the system requirements to play the game at the low and high preset:

Minimum Requirements for 720p30 at low settings:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-4130 or equivalent with 4 hardware threads
  • Memory: 6GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB, AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB, or equivalent DX11 compatible GPU with 2GB of memory
  • Hard Drive: 30 GB free space

Recommended Requirements for 1080p60 at high settings:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4690 or equivalent with 4 hardware threads
  • Memory: 8GB RAM

Quantum Break is Coming to PC With Hefty System Requirements

Quantum Break is an upcoming third-person-shooter action game by Remedy Entertainment. Remedy made itself a household name with the release of Max Payne which deployed an intriguing bullet time mechanic. Later on, the company produced Alan Wake, and received widespread critical acclaim for its occult, eerie setting. Even though Alan Wake originally launched on the Xbox 360 and took a considerable amount of time to arrive on the PC platform, it was well worth the wait. Remedy is a PC developer at heart which raised hopes that their latest endeavour, Quantum Break would eventually come to the PC.

In a rather surprising move, Remedy has just announced that the game will launch on PC at the same time as the Xbox One. Now this is an intriguing strategy, because Microsoft has typically given PC players delayed releases to encourage those with an impatient disposition to purchase an Xbox One console. Please note, Quantum Break is a Windows 10 exclusive and this is mainly due to the use of Microsoft’s latest API, DirectX 12. During the shocking announcement, the studio unveiled the very hefty system requirements to play Quantum Break optimally:

Quantum Break PC Requirements

Minimum Requirements Recommended Specs
OS Windows 10 (64-bit) Windows 10 (64-bit)
DirectX DirectX 12 DirectX 12
CPU Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 Intel Core i7 4790, 4GHz or AMD equivalent
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x NVIDIA GeForce 980 Ti or AMD Radeon R9 Fury X
VRAM 2 GB 6 GB
RAM 8 GB 16 GB
HDD 55 GB available space 55 GB available space

As you can see, the recommended specification is absolutely mesmerizing and requires a top of the range PC. It’s unclear if this refers to 4K 60 frames-per-second or a lower resolution, but whatever the case, it’s going to use a lot of graphical horsepower. Additionally, it’s rather strange to see 16GB RAM to simply run the game properly, given the majority of gaming systems see 8GB as ample. Perhaps, it’s going to be a visual masterpiece and this is shown in the recommended specification. I have to say though if this only applies to 1080P, then it’s surely going to cause some major headaches.

Quantum Break launches on PC and Xbox One on the 5th April.

DOOM Closed Alpha PC Requirements Released

The DOOM closed Alpha is currently available to anyone who pre-ordered or bought Wolfenstein: The New Order on or before May 26, 2014. This includes access to the platform of your choice and designed to test the network infrastructure in a real-usage scenario. The Alpha contains the Heatwave multiplayer map and based on 6v6 Team Deathmatch gameplay. There are also 6 weapons, 2 equipment items, a demon and the Gauss Cannon. In terms of the game’s technical requirements, there’s nothing too demanding although recommending an i7 does seem a bit baffling.  Here is the complete list of requirements in full:

Minimum Specification:

64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8.1
Intel Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz or better / AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or better
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB VRAM) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB VRAM)
6GB HDD space
Steam account
High speed internet connection

Recommended Specification:

64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8.1
Intel Core i7 @ 3.4GHz or better / AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0GHz or better
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (3GB or more VRAM) / AMD Radeon R9 280 (3GB or more VRAM)
6GB HDD space
Steam account
High speed internet connection

DOOM’s fluid fast-paced gameplay looks extremely promising and provides an old school first-person-shooter experience. Sadly, I didn’t pre-order Wolfenstein: The New Order which received excellent reviews and surpassed my expectations.

Star Wars: Battlefront PC Requirements Revealed

Star Wars Battlefront’s release is tantalizing close and EA has scheduled a Beta phase to mark this momentous occasion. As you might expect from DICE, the PC release is visually stunning due to the Frostbite 3 engine. Throughout DICE’s history, they have attempted to bring a certain visual flair to each PC release and thoroughly test the best configurations on the market. To prepare users for the upcoming Beta, EA has announced the minimum and recommend specification:

Minimum PC System Requirements:

OS: 64-bit Windows 7 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i3 6300T or equivalent
Memory: 8GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Graphics card (ATI): ATI Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

Recommended PC System Requirements:

OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i5 6600 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

The minimum specification isn’t overly taxing and should be suitable for any system from the past few years. However, 16GB RAM seems absurdly high on the recommend section considering most games don’t even come close to utilizing 8GB. Apart from this anomaly, every other aspect appears to indicate a scalable PC version.

At the time of writing, some early access copies have already been issued to press outlets and streamers with a large audience. Patience is key though, as a large roll-out should happen extremely soon and there’s no need to spend ages retweeting or sharing social media posts for a code.

Intel and AMD GPUs are not supported.

A Steam account is required.

Strangely enough, it seems an NVIDIA GPU is required to play the game on Linux. However, these specifications are subject to change and I highly doubt this will be the case on release. AMD users should be able to access this title without any issues and I would argue the port is only certified on NVIDIA cards at this time. Overall, Alien Isolation isn’t too demanding and the Windows version ran flawlessly on virtually every configuration.
