Bug Found in The Division That Lets Players do Unlimited Damage

Tom Clancy’s The Division has enjoyed enormous popularity since its release, despite the almost constant existence of issues that have plagued players. Now, a new exploit has been found in the shooter that effectively breaks the game by allowing players to do potentially unlimited damage, making PvE trivial and destroying the PvP ‘Dark Zone’ areas.

The bug is based around the use of the “competent” talent, which boosts damage output after another ability is triggered. This can be found on a number of weapons, but can most easily be gotten from a high-end AK-74 purchasable at a special gear vendor at the Base of Operations. With this (or another qualifying weapon) all you have to do is switch back and forth between the gun and any other weapon for some time causing competent’s DPS boost to stack on each switch. After switching the weapons for a number of minutes, the damage boost becomes enormous, capable of temporarily boosting damage by as much as 10 times over, with Youtuber Simplified showing his weapon going from 10,000 damage per shot to 100,000 with the talent active.

This bug has enormous potential for abuse in both PvE and PvP, with players able to kill difficult bosses with relative ease and effortlessly kill any player who crosses them with a single shot. While PvE uses of the exploit have relatively low impact on other players, this bug may drive many out of the PvP Dark Zone areas for fear they will be killed with ease by users of the exploit. It isn’t just the competent talent with the issue either, with players reporting a number of other pieces of equipment are able to stack their talent activations by swapping it on and off making players able to earn millions of credits for a single headshot, amongst other things.

It is reasonable to assume that Ubisoft will be giving abusers of this exploit the same treatment as in the past, with many people likely to face a ban should they have been found to be using the glitch. How long it will remain unpatched though still remains to be seen, but there may be a distinct drop off in players in the PvP zones until a hotfix is released.

Former Age of Empires Devs Announce New RTS Title

The team over at BonusXP, which are mainly made up of ex-Ensamble veterans who worked on the Age of Empires series, announced that they are now working on another RTS title. This time, they are taking a more sci-fi approach.

The devs are said to be working on a title called Servo, an RTS similar to Total Annihilation from what it seems at first glance. It tells the story of the human race who has abandoned Earth many years ago, only to return in search of a rare resource called “Bloom”.

Players are said to be given a 25 mission campaign which tells the story of humanity and its quest, while the multiplayer side is focused on player-versus-player and co-op missions. The title is said to have its early access launch “in the coming months”, being currently available for pre-order for $20. More information on it can be found on Servo can be found on their website here.

ArcheAge Launch Date and Open Beta Announced

The highly anticipated open-end MMORPG build on cryteks engine, ArcheAge, has gotten it’s official release date announced during PAX. Trion also announced an open beta period for everyone to test out the new world and go on an adventure. The open beta will start on Thursday, September 4 at 10:00 AM PDT and run to the same time on the 8th.

To all of Erenor’s intrepid adventurers, be you fierce warriors, brave explorers, fearsome pirates, or skilled crafters: we welcome you as a member of ArcheAge’s launch community! Revealed this evening in Seattle at PAX Prime 2014 to an audience of your fellow players, Trion Worlds and XLGAMES are proud to officially announce that ArcheAge will launch on Tuesday, September 16

There is no invitation needed and the ones lucky enough to play the closed beta can return to their characters as they were including taxes and crops. The characters will however be wiped for the official launch, or rather 4 days prior. Early adopters and founders get a four day head-start into the game.

Alpha testers will be rewarded as well, but with what is unknown. The statement reads, “Starting this Saturday at 6:00 PM PDT, our diligent Alpha testers should check their in-game mail, keep a weather eye on the horizon, and be ready for anything…”

The game isn’t the traditional 3 class mmorpg, but allows you to build unique characters, to a certain degree, out of a long list of skills and abilities. There are four different races to chose from, six primary skillsets and four more support skillsets that can be combined into more then 100 classes.

The economy is player-driven. Gatherers, crafters and traders are the engine that drives ArcheAge and the economy within. With the skills you’ll master you can raft goods and homes or galleons and castles. You can also transport and trade materials across the realm where you’ll of course need to protect it.

The game of course, like any, has a rich player versus player action. It has normal raids and pvp action as well as sabotage and piracy. Trion calls it a world-changing PvP, but how much of it actually is new is to be seen. The game also has a vast uncharted ocean that separate the continents. Of course there is an ideal new battle arena in that and the game features Naval combat on the high seas. Amass your fame and fortune by trading and pirating.

The video below is a 20 minute introduction into the game and can have spoilers for those who want to experience it themselves first hand.

New Dragons Prophet Showcases The Frontier System

The day of the prophet draws nearer – it’s only a few more weeks until the highly-anticipated MMORPG Dragon’s Prophet launches. Berlin-based publisher Infernum and developer Runewaker are still working very hard to provide players with new updates and improvements. This week, Infernum presents a brand-new trailer showcasing the numerous tactical opportunities within the Frontier System, which was shown to media representatives during gamescom, as well as new game features that will find their way into Auratia with the official launch of Dragon’s Prophet on September 18th.

Currently there are more than 1,000 guilds deeply immersed in preparations for the massive cross-server PvP battles and are already forging alliances to take control of the floating islands. Only the strongest and most cunning of them will emerge victorious from the territory wars and be able to gather valuable resources as well as enjoy other benefits. For example, the ruling alliance can raise taxes, regulate the rental prices for player houses, and significantly modify the infrastructure of the floating islands. In addition to that, defensive towers, mining facilities including NPC controlled caravans that transport resources, as well as monsters guarding the strongholds, allow alliances to create unique and distinctive realms.

More details about the different phases during the territory war as well as the plentiful options available to ruling guilds will be published in the upcoming weeks.
