Astronaut Accidentally Misdials From Space

It happens to everyone at times, even to the best, that we misdial and get the wrong person on the other end when we make a phone call and enter the digits manually instead of picking a number from our address book. Sometimes this can be more hilarious than other times, depending on your own mood and that of the person you are calling by accident.

Shortly before Christmas, British astronaut Tim Peake took to Twitter to apologize for what some at first believed was the first prank phone call from space. It wasn’t and it was just a minor mistake, but I am sure that the person receiving the call was slightly confused when she picked up the phone and heard the words: “Hello, is this planet Earth?”.

The incident is hilarious and at the same time as it underlines how fragile and dependent our technology really is. Despite the fact that we can send people into space, we still can’t get the number right all the time. This isn’t the first time something like this happened either as astronaut Sam Crritoforetti replied to Tim Peake’s Tweet, admitting she once called 911 by mistake.

These things happen and I’m sure no one would mind a call from space now and then. Say hi to E.T. from me if he should call you.

Hackers Broadcast Pornographic Audio Through Target Stores PA

In the past couple of months, a number of Target stores have fallen victim to an embarrassing, yet hilarious pornographic prank. The hackers can access the store’s PA system and broadcast audio at large volume. In this particular case, the pranksters played a pornographic film on full blast for an entire 15 minutes. Naturally, most shoppers were completely outraged according to Gina Young:

“”People were up in arms,”

“Some people threw their things down and walked out. Others were yelling at employees.”

Apparently, an e-mail obtained by the BBC was sent out to bosses at the company which reads:

“Non-Target team members are attempting to access the intercom system by calling stores and requesting to be connected to line [xxxx],”

“If connected, callers have control of the intercom until they hang up.”

“We are actively working to limit intercom access to the Guest Services phone only. In the meantime, inform all operators to not connect any calls to line [xxxx].”

Target’s spokeswoman Molly Snyder wouldn’t deny or confirm the e-mail’s authenticity but told the BBC:

“We are actively reviewing the situation with the team to better understand what happened and are taking steps to help ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

“Because this is an active investigation, I’m unable to share additional details, but we want our guests to know that we take this very seriously.”

This entire situation emphasizes how vulnerable many PA systems are in leading retail chains. Although, the embarrassment might result in enhanced security in the long-term.

Improve Your Halloween Display With This Motion Activated Window Figure

I agree with very little when it comes to certain policies which have been fostered upon the globe by good old Uncle Sam, the United States of America, Halloween on the other hand is executed, no pun intended, with all the intended style and spirit which consumers have been accustomed to over the decades. But what are the best decorations which one could use when decorating a house, property or to scare your friends?

That’s an interesting question which UK-based people do not have the answer to, but a US Internet store by the name of Think Geek does and is currently offering an easy-to-install motorized human face that taps on a selected window at pre-set intervals, the website states the “figure is hung via suction cup on a window so that there appears to be a person looking at your unwitting onlooker. It would be wise to play this prank on an individual which you know, although I am not sure this would be the best of ideas in a country which boasts a collection of around 300 million guns.

This device of sorts is motion activated and can be set to a maximum of 3 taps every ten seconds, the finger tip is metal capped with the aim of producing a loud enough sound to draw attention to the scare, it also runs on AAA batteries. It also includes above suction cup, no surprise, and a finishing line for those hard to reach scare surprises. This shock tactic is priced at $59.99 and would be sure to find a market as Halloween approaches.

Incredible Mobile App Street Hack Prank Is Epic

What at first appears to be a simple prank, involving a mobile phone repair shop and a few unsuspecting customers soon escalates a lot further than you might think. The whole thing turns out to be a very elaborate marketing campaign for something that is soon to be released, but if I’m honest, I don’t want to spoil anything about the video or what happens.

Marketing campaigns are certainly getting more unique in the last few years, especially with advancements in technology such as smartphones and the video above does a great job of making a lasting impression and for me personally, it worked, I am more excited about the thing they’re marketing (see, still no spoilers).

Enjoy the video, let us know what you think in the comments section below. Even better, tell us what you would have done with the App.

SWAT Team Called in to Tackle Call of Duty Player

There have been a number of times when we have heard about Call of Duty players taking things a bit too personal and getting too frustrated when they get shot or Pwned in-game by another happy camper. There are though some people who take this grudge one step too far and this results in me hearing things that simply make me laugh.

So picture this, you’re happily playing away online against some of your mates (and maybe one or two others that you don’t know) and you end up with the lowest kill-to-death ratio and the lowest kill streak. What do you do? Well I personally would shrug it off and say meh, others who play a little more competitively may shout at the screen in rage and scream down the microphone informing everyone else how pissed they are.

Rafael Castillo from Long Beach however did neither of the above, in fact he was the glorious winner in his game, but his nemesis was boiling in rage over their loss that they proceeded to call in a SWAT team via Skype to take care of the matter. “I just killed my mother and I might shoot more people”; these are the words that Castillo’s raging enemy used and what followed lead to a two-hour stand-off between the authorities and 17-year old Castillo.

Jose, Rafael’s brother told the media, “Some guy threatened to SWAT him, He was pissed that he had lost”. Soon after the call, the Castillo home was surrounded by over 60 law enforcement officers and air support, including members of the Nassau County Special Ops unit.

Thing is though, Castillo’s mum was perfectly safe and well, she was in the kitchen the whole time, which he was playing his game and wearing his headphones.

Jose added: “I thought there was a fire at my house. I ran up and saw my mom running out, I didn’t know what was going on” he continued, “Then one of the police officers said somebody called and said that the mother and brother of somebody in this house was killed. I said ‘how is that possible if she’s right there and I’m right here?”

All the while this was going on, Rafael was totally unaware of the situation, not realising that the shouting and screaming was not just coming from his headset.

Not knowing who made the call, the authorities are looking into who Castillo was playing against in order to track down the vengeful player who made the call in a commonly occurring event called ‘swatting’.

Whilst this safely ended in no-body getting hurt, Rafael’s mother has stated that he will not be allowed to play the game again… ever and this has all come to be a total waste of police and law enforcement resources. It may seem like a funny prank to pull on your enemies, but seriously, some people really do take things one step too far and get too engrossed in their games. It’s a game at the end of the day – you lost – you’ll get over it and you’ll have another chance to win.
