John Wick – First A Movie Now A VR Game

John Wick features Keanu Reeves playing an ex-mob hitman, who is actually described as the person you would send after the boogie man, seeking revenge for a mob boss who has crossed him. Soon not only could you watch John Wick on film but you could be playing him with a new VR Game set for release in 2016.

Lionsgate, the company behind the John Wick film, is partnering with the game company Starbreeze to release a VR first-person shooter based on the film. While it’s not expected till spring next year the game is set to be released for most modern VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive.

A demo for the game is set to become part of the showcase for HTC Vive World Tour, which is set to showcase VR hardware in both Europe and North America.

This is not the first time we have seen John Wick come to a video game, he was recently introduced into Starbreeze’s first person shooter Payday 2, which sees John Wick, as a free DLC released in time to coincide with the movie’s initial release, join up with a band of criminals in an attempt to pull off heists for hopes of large cash rewards.

With a sequel to the John Wick film set for next September, we can expect more from John Wick both in terms of official releases and no doubt fan requests for more games and integrations into previous games.

Is there any particular game which you would be interested to see John Wick feature in? Would you be interested in a standalone John Wick game?

Users Rage Over Payday 2 Support-Stop on Last-Gen Consoles

When Overkill announced that Payday 2: Crimewave Edition was coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in February as well as continued support for the game until 2017, a lot of people got excited for the chance to play the heist game on the current generation consoles.

In the announcement was something most people read past in the excitement for the new versions and all the new content promised – both paid and free – and that was the announcement that the company would cease the update development for the last generation consoles, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Q: Will you continue to support PAYDAY 2 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3?
A: In connection with this, we have decided to retire the PAYDAY 2 update development on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We wish we could provide more updates. For a long time, we’ve been looking at how we could add more updates from a technical standpoint. Sadly, we now understand that it’s impossible to continue doing so.

As said, many people didn’t notice that part and they’re now taking their rage out on twitter and similar social media platforms. But really, no one is to blame here, it just reached a natural stopping point where that 10-year old hardware can’t handle things anymore.

The developers are equally sad that they can’t continue the work, but there just isn’t anything they can do about it.

“We wish we could provide more updates. For a long time, we’ve been looking at how we could add more updates from a technical standpoint. Sadly, we now understand that it’s impossible to continue doing so,” the statement reads. “For those of you who play Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and have been looking forward to new updates, you’ll be pissed when you hear this. We hate this too, because there’s nothing we can do about it.”

505 Games offered a discount on the new PS4 and Xbox One version for pre-orders up until launch, but there weren’t any loyalty bonuses for the old generation console users nor could that take their savegames with them to the new console. As such there weren’t many players that took advantage of it.

This is just one of many instances we’ll see where this will become an issue for those who refuse to upgrade their hardware for one reason or another and we can expect more and more developers to drop support for the older generations in the future.

Starbreeze Studios’ Upcoming VR Headset Could Prove to Be the Next Big Thing

We are hyped about what VR headsets are available to developers and what they can do with them. From Oculus to Razer, manufacturers are looking into the new tech and attempting to bring their own personal touch to it.

This is the case of Starbreeze Studios too, the developer of Payday and The Chronicles of Riddick, who just announced that they are working on a VR headset at an event in Los Angeles. Named StarVR, the company demoed the gear on their upcoming The Walking Dead title.

But what makes this headset stand out is its specs. I mean Starbreeze went crazy on this one. StarVR is said to boast a 5120 x 1440 resolution and 210 degree FOV angle. Should it be true, then StarVR is the next big thing in the VR market. However, let’s think about it. 2160 x 1200 is the standard resolution in Oculus an SteamVR!

Secondly, the massive resolution running at 90Hz is not going to run on your average rig. We are talking about the state of the art gaming machine here if you want to even make the headgear work and not stand next to it with a fire extinguisher.

In addition to the above, the company is said to have presented a new gadget for the VR headset too. It is said to have been a shotgun, which not only tracks where you aim, but where you place your hands on it too. We are probably going to get more details about the headset at E3, but until then, how excited are you about the StarVR? Let us know in the comments below.
