Crucial DDR4 2400MT/s 8Gb-based Server Memory Now Available

Crucial is ready with the next step in their server memory and announced the availability of the Crucial DDR4 2400MT/s 8Gb-based RDIMM, LRDIMM and ECC UDIMM server modules which enable increased performance, bandwidth, and energy efficiency.

The higher density 8Gb-based modules allow for both a greater channel bandwidth and channel density, but the most important factor is probably the lowered power consumption. Memory can be quite power hungry and will make up quite a bit of the overall consumed power in a server environment due to the constant rewrites happening. The new 8Gb-based modules offer up to 20 percent higher energy efficiency than the 4Gb-based modules and that is something that will make a noticeable difference.

Ultimately, these benefits provide more value per gigabit than current 4Gb-based offerings, making it easy to scale
up server deployments in the future and the modules are designed to be compatible with Intel’s next generation processor product families.

Crucial’s 8Gb-based server memory is extensively tested to mission-critical standards and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. The new 8Gb-based modules are available for immediate purchase through global partners and directly through Crucial.

InWin Presents NUC and SFF Cases at Computex 2015

Computex 2015 – InWin is well known for their unique PC chassis designs, but this time they took their design ideas and shrunk it down to be used with Intel’s NUC systems and mITX form factors.

Power over Ethernet is an amazing feature. You do not need to have a dedicated power supply as these low power units can get enough electricity to run on just the power that’s provided through your ethernet cable, that is if you have a PoE infrastructure. DDR4 Industrial Grade Modules Announced by SMART Modular Technologies

SMART Modular Technologies has announced the availability of its highly reliable DDR4 industrial grade modules. The modules are said to join the company’s very successful DDR3 lineup and target the networking, telecom and industrial applications market, where operating areas consist of harsh environments.

As with all of SMART’s products, quality is extremely important and this is why each of the DDR4 industrial grade modules undertake extreme tests. The DDR4-2133 1.2V modules are tested with customized tensing programs, test flows and specialized equipment in order to eliminate weak bits and modules likely to fail under temperature tests.

It is said that SMART’s industrial grade modules are 100% system tested at high speeds, starting with a cold boot at -40°C and working upward to +85°C ambient operation. However, test duration may vary depending on each module’s density.

SMART’s DDR4 industrial grade modules are said to be ready to operate in a variety of harsh conditions, including base stations and telecom equipment exposed to the elements, single board computers used in industrial, defense, aerospace, kiosk, digital signage applications and densely configured computing applications with limited airflow.

The memory modules come in a variety of types, including SO-DIMMs up to 16GB, unbuffered and registered DIMMs up to 16GB and 32GB respectively, and Mini-DIMMs up to 16GB.

DRAM Production Will be Limited During 2013 to 2014 Says Micron


Micron, one of the top 3 manufacturers and suppliers of dynamic access memory chips claimed that there will still be limited production of memory chips throughout 2013 and 2014, therefore one shouldn’t expect cheap memory kits in the near future.

Mark Durcan, Chief executive of Micron said during a conference call with Financial analysts:

“Supply dynamics in particular appears to be healthy looking forward. We believe the DRAM industry wafer capacity will be down in both 2013 and 2014 and process technology upgrades are being stressed out, thereby reducing supply growth compared to historical trends.”

As a friend pointed out towards Camel Egg’s graph charts which shows the price increase/decrease of a product sold in Newegg since the past few months, one can see that a memory kits such as the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 1600MHz memory kit that used to cost as low as $32.99 back in November 22, 2012 has been getting a rise ever since, and currently has a tag of $54.99 as of March 10, 2013.

It should be noted that the statement by Micron is very concerning especially after looking at the high demand, production and sales of cheap tablets and smartphones made by numerous Chinese manufacturers; both known and unknown brands.

This happened due to oversupply of memory chips which resulted in a 25% price decline during 2012 and because of it, manufacturers decided to cut production which will immediately increase the prices. It has been said before that consumers have suspected and even accused that DRAM manufacturers are manipulating the prices on the market, but in any case, it doesn’t look like Micron will change their minds as it turns out to be profitable for them.
