Elon Musk And Talulah Riley to Divorce After Two and a Half Years

Elon Musk is known for a lot of things, from building the popular electric Tesla vehicles, co-founding Paypal and even banning those who are rude from buying his vehicles. It would seem however that amongst all this that has been given the public there have been private consequences, as a result we are sad to report that Elon Musk will separate from his wife after two and a half years together.

Wife Talulah Riley filed for divorce on the 21st March 2016, following up from an initial divorce filing that Musk filed in 2014 but later withdrew. All is not lost though as both parties say that the pair agreed to the divorce filing and that the action will be amicable.

In their statement, they revealed that they plan to remain friends and have been living separately for the past six months. The filing cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce filing, but Riley will be requesting spousal support from Musk, a man who has five sons from a previous marriage but none with Riley.

This isn’t their first divorce, with the pair originally marrying in 2010 only to divorce in 2012. The pair remarried 18 months later, sadly to end again the marriage again this year.

We wish both Elon Musk and Talulah Riley the best in their futures, both professionally and personally.

Ikea Hosts Online Weddings

Where should we get married, Ikea? I wouldn’t have said Ikea was even a place that I would think of getting married in, yet the Swedish retailer has seen an opportunity in the marital market.

Last week the major retailer Ikea launched a new service called Wedding Online. The new service allows couples to hold a virtual ceremony attended by their closest friends and the rest of the internet if you wish.

Ikea will then process the webcam streams and live impose them onto a location. The whole process seems a bit odd and will definitely not be as romantic  as a normal wedding. You could dress up in a tuxedo or dress but as it only streams your head no one would know if you’re sat there in your jogging bottoms and tank top.

You’ll also miss out on the dad dancing at the do afterwards, the free food and drink and the eardrum splitting cheesy music that should never see the light of day.

Ikea have the system released already on their website but it’s in Swedish so may be rather difficult to work out, however after clicking a few buttons on the site you should be able to make it into the section to start a ceremony.

Ikea have posted a video onto YouTube advertising the new system

Researchers Suggest Internet Porn Has Caused Drop in US Marriage Rates

Researchers from the Institute for the Study of Labor in Germany have discovered a correlation between the decline in marriage in America and the proliferation of free pornography online, and suggest that the former may be influencing the latter.

“The results in this paper suggest that such an association exists, and that it is potentially quite large,” the study reads.

Researchers looked at data from the General Social Study, analysing the internet use of 18-25-year-old men between 2000 and 2004, specifically time spent online, and what percentage of that time being spent looking at pornography.

One of the paper’s authors, Dr. Michael Malcolm, Professor at the University of West Chester, Pennsylvania, said, “We asked ourselves, what is helping determine whether people are married or not? One of those things, we thought, could be the use of pornography.”

Malcolm tested the hypothesis that a rise in pornography use may have impacted marriage rates, comparing other factors, such as age, income, education, and employment. Of all the factors, use of internet porn seemed to have the biggest relation to low marriage rates.

Although the correlation is far from definitive, it does suggest that men who use porn are less likely to get married, rather than the other way around.

WhatsApp Involved in Almost Half of All Italian Divorces

A new article by GlobalPost says that nearly half of all divorce proceedings in Italy refer to WhatsApp.

The Italian Association of Matrimonial Lawyers told the publication that WhatsApp is cited more so than any other source of information that acts as the cause of a divorce. They say that partners more than often find evidence of infidelity via snooping on their other half’s sent and received messages in the app.

“No one is saying WhatsApp is the cause of the divorces,” says Gian Ettore Gassani, president of the Matrimonial Lawyers group. “The leading cause is infidelity, but WhatsApp is now the most common way for one partner to discover infidelity in the other.”

Interestingly, they also say that men more so than women are the ones that get caught out due to WhatsApp, as females are more quick to delete sensitive messages than males.

“Men are most likely to save messages or photos from lovers they can go back to,” Gassani says. “Women are more likely to take one look and then delete.”

The article is an interesting look into the blend of traditional Italian attitudes towards infidelity with modern communication technology.
