Windows 10 Mobile Update Might Finally Arrive This Month

Whether Windows 8 mobile users have waited patiently for the update to Windows 10 or not is something the upgrade numbers will show, but up until now they haven’t had any other choice than wait. At least, if they wanted to keep their current Lumia phones powered by the older operating system. At first the update was promised to arrive in December last year, then it was January before being pushed to February, only to be postponed again.

The newest reports indicate that those were the last delays and that Windows 8 users will get the ability to upgrade to Windows 10 this month, after the monthly service update is completed for the Lumia 950 models. I should, however, point out again, that this isn’t officially confirmed information, at least not yet.

Microsoft plans to roll-out the update as an opt-in upgrade, allowing the users the choice to upgrade or not. At least at first. Once it has been verified that there aren’t any critical bugs or trouble with the upgrade, it will be pushed to compatible phones automatically.

With smartphones being as vital a component in people’s live these days, it is good to see that Microsoft takes its time to polish the operating system and make sure that everyone will get a great experience out of it instead of trying to stick to deadlines and then release a buggy product. It’s not something they can afford to do and the won’t.

It is an update that is well worth waiting for as I can say first hand that Windows 10 is an awesome mobile operating system. It takes a little time to get used to, as any change, but after a day, you won’t be missing any previous system. That is at least if you use your phone for communication where you’ll find all the popular instant messengers and similar things, but you might not find your favourite game on there yet.

Windows XP Has More Users than Windows 8.x, Not Bad for an OS That Is 14 Years Old

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that there are still many people using Windows XP. Though, it may be surprising to learn that the desktop market share of the 14 year old OS has more market share than the recent Windows 8 versions (Win 8/ Win 8.1).

According to Net Application’s collected data Windows 8.x ended March with 14.07% of the market share for desktops. Windows XP ended the month with 16.94%, beating Windows 8.x by 2.87%.  Going back to November 2014 Windows 8.x had a combined market share of 18.65% against XP at 13.57%. Surprisingly November 2014 was the only month that Win 8.x beat out XP. This is pretty surprising given that XP is no longer officially supported by Microsoft, with support having been ended a year ago. Could this be the reason for Microsoft saying that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade? It would be a safe bet just by looking at the numbers, and with Windows 10 actually looking pretty great, it is a win for everyone.

Closed Beta Testing for StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void Could Start at the End of March

The latest StarCraft title, Legacy of the Void, is said to be the closing story for the StarCraft 2 series. It was first announced at BlizzCon last year, but Blizzard did not mention when it will be released.

While Blizzard is known for taking its time with their titles, The Daily Dot gives some hope that the release date is close than expected. Their sources say that the closed beta for Legacy of the Void should be launched at the end of March or early April, pointing out that gaming press and esports organisations have been told to submit their requests for beta keys.

“It’s great timing for them. WCS Season 1 will be all but over and this will give players plenty of time to stream the beta and generate some excitement. As things stand the beta is pretty much ready to launch with the balance team just tweaking a few units.”

Blizzard stated that StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void will not be an expansion, but a standalone game. It is said to focus on the Protoss side of the story and should ultimately end the StarCraft 2 story as a whole.

Launch Trailer for Battlefield: Hardline Released

Electronic Arts has recently released the official trailer for its upcoming Battlefield title, Battlefield: Hardline, ahead of the title’s launch on March 20th. Check the trailer out below.

Though the trailer looks great, it still remains to be seen whether the title will live to its expectation. Given that the beta had its little hiccups and that its predecessor, Battlefield 4, led to a lot of people being disappointed due to its bugs when it first launch, we just have to see what the new title has to bring.

Battlefield: Hardline is said to launch on March 20th through Origin on PC and Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 through retailers.

Apple Posts Invites to “Spring Forward” Event on March 9th

Apple has just posted invites to journalists announcing a “Spring forward” event on March 9th. It will take place at the Yerba Buena Arts Center in San Francisco, a venue used for countless Apple events.

While there are no further details at this time, it’s believed that the event will focus on the Apple Watch, among other things. The name, “Spring forward”, is an obvious nod to time, considering that the clocks go forward on Sunday, March 8th (in the US). The Apple Watch is due out in April, so it’s understood that Apple will likely reveal more about the new device and announce more details concerning its launch.

While the event could solely focus on the watch, it’s not uncommon for the company to make other announcements at such events. For the last few months, we’ve seen rumours concerning a new redesigned MacBook Air – a product said to be ready for early 2015. We’ve also heard about an ‘iPad Pro’ with a larger screen, but this is more likely to arrive in the later half of the year.

Rumour: Apple Watch to be Released in March

In what is a highly credible rumour from 9to5Mac, it appears that Apple is gearing up to release the Apple Watch in March. They say that retail employees will begin training for the new device soon.

“One or two representatives from many Apple Stores in the United States, depending on store and market size, will be sent to Apple offices in either Cupertino, California or Austin, Texas to learn first-hand about the Watch. These training programs will take place between February 9th and February 16th.”

Rumours concerning designs of new products are always questionable due to there being so few people in on such projects, but Apple retail is an organisation extraordinarily large with many employees – meaning it is easy for information like this to slip out.

Apple is still posting an “Early 2015” launch date on its website in the US, with just “2015” everywhere else. While it’s a possibility that it could launch in other countries later, this seems unlikely for countries like the UK, Australia, Canada and Europe as Apple’s supply chain is now so efficient that it should be easy for them to launch in multiple countries on day one.

Newegg Reportedly Heading To Europe, Including the UK, As Early As This March

If you’re living in the United States, Canada, China or Taiwan, then you should know or have even used Newegg to buy all sorts of electronic devices, including PC hardware. The online retailer of hardware and software was founded by Fred Chang, a Taiwanese immigrant, in 2001.

Since then, it had a substantial amount of requests from potential European customers, however with no indication of the services being available in the region anytime soon. However, things are about to change in the near future.

The online retailer has recently announced that it will be bringing its services to Europe, including the UK. Newegg has planned to start business with its potential customers as early as this March, however the retailer is said to start a ‘soft’ launch at first in order to test the waters before becoming more confident about its shipping and supply lines.

Newegg allegedly claims to have 25 million registered users and 8.5 million subscribers to its regular email bulletins, numbers that look set to grow if the company can find a way to stand amidst competition like Amazon, eBuyer and the British PC-specialist Scan.

Maxwell Powered GeForce Cards To Shipping before March 2014

Rumor has it that the new Maxwell based graphics cards are coming in Q1 2014 and will hit the shelves in the same quarter. Multiple sources have confirmed that there will be Maxwell based cards in retail that will ship before March 2014. This is quite big news for GPU lovers, as Maxwell should be much more power efficient than Kepler. According to Nvidia’s roadmap it is supposed to have four times the Dual Precision Gflops per watt compared to Kepler. According to the same roadmap Maxwell has been pushed from 2013 to 2014 which implies a slight delay from the original plan.

Fudzilla’s sources have confirmed that the cards will start shipping in Q1 2014, but they are not aware if this is another 28nm or first 20nm graphics chip to hit the market. GPU performance lovers as well as Tesla compute performance enthusiasts will like this core as it can offer much more performance per watt than any previous generation including Kepler. The question remains if Nvidia plans to officially introduce this card before March 24 2014, the first day of its GPU technology conference, of if the launch happens a bit earlier.

In case Nvidia wants to ship cards to customers, that will have to mean that it has the production right now. Therefore, we will just have to wait and see more about the Maxwell cards shipping to customers in the form of retail graphics cards by the end of March.

World of Warcraft Movie Delayed To 2016

Previous news set the World of Warcraft movie launch date on the 18th of December 2015. However, we learned that it has been delayed to 2016, according to a tweet from the official World of Warcraft Twitter account.

Based on the information given, it seems that the movie will be moving from its 18th of December 2015 release date to an 11th of March 2016 release date. It is unclear as to why there might be a delay since no explanation was given, but since games get frequent delays, why not movies based on games get delays as well eh? Blizzard’s involvement and the company’s attention to detail and their reputation for delaying games, this does not come as a complete shock, but hopefully what this means is that we can look forward to an even greater movie and perhaps prove that movies adapted from video games don’t have to be horrible.

During BlizzCon 2013, additional details of the movie was shared with attendees. The movie will take us back to the original Warcraft game where it will be more about Orcs versus Humans as opposed to some of Warcraft’s later stories, like the one involving Arthas and the Lich King. The movie is expected to begin filming next year and according to the rumors, Colin Farrell and Paula Patton could be part of the cast.

Nokia Lumia 2020 Rumored To Be Released By The End of March 2014

Nokia Lumia 2520 has just been launched and there are already reports of a new Lumia tablet in the works. There were rumors of an 8-inch tablet that is expected to be released next year, having only the codename Illusionist to go by. Also, the screen indicated it could also be Lumia 2520’s little brother.

It turns out that the Nokia Illusionist may in fact be the upcoming Lumia 2020. There are also rumors about the next Lumia tablet stating it will be a high-end tablet, and not a cheaper option. Furthermore, Nokia also is eager to get involved in the tablet marketplace, having an unofficial release date for the Lumia 2020 set for Q1 next year, meaning we should see the new tablet in stores by April 2014.

There is not much information to go by, such as specs, pricing and official market availability. Given the vague release date information, Nokia will probably reveal it in the upcoming couple of months, possibly at CES in January.
