Belgians Aid Police With Cat Pictures

After the recent events in Paris, police in Belgium have been operating to find Salah Abdeslam, a suspect in the Paris attacks. The operations came to a height on Sunday when a search of Brussels was conducted amid requests from the police for people to not post information about their activities.

So how did the internet respond? By tweeting cat pictures! The hash tag #BrusselsLockdown became awash with images of kittens as people swamped out any reports of police activity amongst a sea of kittens.

The initial tweet reads as follows:

This (roughly) translates as:

For safety, please observe the radio silence on social media regarding ongoing police operating in Brussels. Thank you

The public’s response was simply amazing with the following tweets showing that not only do they care, they will do anything to help hinder those who weren’t willing to listen.

The police even posted this message in response to the overwhelming public support for their actions:

This translates to:

For cats who helped us last night, help yourself!

With both the public and the police using social media to not only help one another but also to help calm and entertain others in a time like this it goes to show that the internet does have a good side.

Thank you to the BBC for bringing these amazingly heroic cats to light.

Lionel Richie Is Project Fi’s Secret Ambassador

Hello, is it me you’re looking for?

Google announced project Fi, a massively important international wireless service. What does our dearest Lionel have to do with this? you may ask, well you may be dancing on the ceiling when you find out!

On the Experience page on the Google Project Fi website (available here) there is a phone number on one of the diagrams that displays one of Project Fi’s features. If you call this number someone answers. The call connects right in the middle of a popular 80’s tune. This is a very clever trick done by google as it’s the same way that the company has entered the wireless market, the song then cuts out just after the key lyric. Very similar to how this sentence is going to…

We’re joking really, no in-depth analysis on Mr Richie’s tunes from us today. This just shows that Google know how to have a good joke. You can dial 404-978-9316 to hear him sing along all night long if you want to, just don’t make sure you fall in to endless love with him, you may rack up a heck of a phone bill!

We’re pretty sure Google may even start their own water park. The idea was sparked when Lionel took his performing cat to Sea world. “What a feline, dancing on the sea lion…

Play Pacman on the Virtual Streets of Google Maps

Google starts out with April’s fools jokes early, well at least for us here in the Europe area. But it’s already the 1st in some places and Google started out with a cryptic tweet. Dots and fruits, this can only be Pacman.

And yes it is, and yes you can play Pacman in Google Maps for the time being. All you have to do is visit Maps on the web and click on the little Pacman icon at the bottom-left of the screen. Not all areas are suitable for the gaming environment and Maps will let you select a new area or chose one by random with the “I’m feeling lucky” algorithm. Then it will use the road grid to draw the level to play on.

You control your yellow hero with the keyboard, so off you go, go chase those ghosts around your local streets.

DeLorean’s Flux Capacitor from ‘Back To The Future’ Now Available for $25

Back To The Future movie series fans should be familiar with the Flux Capacitor, the item that makes the DeLorean car be an actual time travelling machine. According to Doc Brown, the character from the movie, the Flux Capacitor is the thing that ‘makes everything work’.

Every fan would like to have such a device in their car. At least for show if not for actual time travelling experience (which is not possible of course). However, the item now appears to be for sale, courtesy of ThinkGeek. They have apparently made something that looks like the real flux capacitor, aside from the time travelling feature of course.

The device is said to be a gadget which you plug into your car’s cigarette lighter. It has two USB ports which can be used to charge your phone or other gadgets such as GPS or others. Also, a great feature about the flux capacitor is that it lights up, similar to how the original flux capacitor from the movie does.

The gadget is said to have been unveiled back in April as an April Fool’s joke. However, due to the overwhelming demand, it seems that ThinkGeek made a real product, which is said to be selling quite nicely. The flux capacitor is selling on ThinkGeek’s website, having it priced at $24,99 and expected to ship to buyers in September.
