GIGABYTE and Partners Hold Biggest Ever Charity Raffle at I55

UK’s biggest gaming festival, Insomnia, is just around the corner and it will open its doors tomorrow for Multiplay Insomnia 55, UK’s biggest gaming festival at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Following up on the last successful charity raffle, GIGABYTE again partnered with others to create the biggest ever charity raffle at Insomnia. There will be around £5000 worth of hardware prizes to win spread out over the two days.

The prizes that you can win include AMD processors, AOC monitors, Coolermaster power supplies and cases, Crucial memory, Fractal Design power supplies and cases, Kingston memory and HyperX SSDs, Tesoro gaming keyboards, mice, headsets and mousepads, as well as Netgear NAS and cameras. GIGABYTE is sponsoring a gaming laptop, motherboards, a graphics card, keyboards, and headsets themselves. All this can be won and best of all, everything goes to charity.

There will be two raffles, one held on Friday, the 28th of August and the second the day after, on Saturday, the 29th of August.

Like last time, all the proceeds will be donated to the local charity Zoë’s place, a baby hospice providing palliative, respite and end of life care for babies and infants aged from birth to five years and suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. This is truly a worthy cause and I hope a lot of the gamers attending the Insomnia event will be very generous. The added bonus of  having a chance to win amazing hardware and this really is a no-brainer. Participate!

Try out RAF SkyTech Augmented Reality Screens at Insomnia 55

Insomnia Gaming Festival announced that the RAF will be present at Insomnia 55 and demonstrate some of their really cool technology. At Insomnia 55 you’ll be able to try out the RAF’s augmented reality screens and play a campaign challenge with five missions to complete.

For those who don’t know who RAF is, they are the Royal Air Force and is United Kingdom’s aerial warfare force. They were founded towards the end of World War One on the first of April 1918 and is thereby the oldest independent air force in the world.

This is without a doubt a clever recruiting trip for the RAF, but at the same time it gives normal gamers the ability to try out some of the really advanced training gear that the RAF has at their disposal. Gamers have trained themselves to react in split seconds while they distinguish between friend and foe. They got endurance for long sessions without breaks and have a visual recognition for detail that most other people don’t have. As such it’s just natural for the RAF to take a peek  at Insomnia for new talent. A win-win situation in my opinion.

Will you be heading to Insomnia 55 and if so, will you be trying out the RAF SkyTech?

Gigabyte @ Multiplay i54

It just wouldn’t be an event without the likes of Gigabyte. They were there on the Tesoro booth, but their most notable presence this weekend is the giveaway for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, raising almost £900 on just the Friday. If you’re at the show, drop by to support this great cause.

We will keep you posted on updates from Gigabyte at the event and we aim to publish more on Gigabyte tech as soon as we can.

MSi @ Multiplay i54

We stopped by the MSi stand at i54 to see what they had on offer. No new technology this time, just showcasing their range of gaming notebooks that we had already seen at CeBIT. The systems were coping very well with the LAN set up, with no lag at all during our brief session. We’ve recently reviewed the GS60 2QD which received our highest award, well worth a read.

We will keep you posted with any news updates on MSi for the weekend and hope to see more of their products in for reviews very soon.

Coolermaster @ Multiplay i54

Our day ends at the Coolermaster stand at i54. The guys here showcasing  a small sample of the products they produce, again aiming more at the peripheral sector in their mechanical keyboards and gaming mice. They were holding a Help Desk for anyone to pop along to talk about upgrades and any other possible upgrades for their machines. At the back of the stand, passers by could test their typing speed on a range of mechanical switches, so pop by if you’re in the arena.

They were joined by Team Banana, a small group who produced a very interesting piece of kit, in the form of a one-of-a-kind set of headphones. A very nice bit of kit indeed.

We aim to keep you updated with any news from Coolermaster and we aim to publish reviews of their products in the near future.

Chillblast @ Multiplay i54

Walking around i54 brought us to the Chillblast stand. A few dedicated gaming machines, ranging from tight budgets, right up to GTX 980 monsters; giving the public a chance to see what they have to offer and at what price points. Chillblast are currently holding two competitions on the stand to win ASUS STRIX gaming peripherals, so why not drop by to give yourself a chance.

We will be keeping up to date with Chillblast and aim to publish reviews of their products as soon as we can.

PC Specialist @ Multiplay i54

So we arrive at the PC Specialist stand here at i54. Showcasing a few systems of theirs, along with a dedicated laptop with an Occulus Rift VR headset connected, giving consumers a more hands on and free look at the newest gaming technology on the market. Around the back of the stand, they were hosting a small competition to win some goodies such as a Corsair Mechanical Keyboard and Mouse set. Why not pop along and say hi and try your hand at the shoot-em-up event.

We will be keeping up to date with PC Specialist and aim to publish reviews of their systems as soon as we can.

OverclockersUK @ Multiplay i54

Here at i54 we see OverclockersUK. In true OCUK style we have the multitude of display machines ranging from budget HTPC’s right up to their high end 8-Pack style system. As you can imagine, the spectators flocked to the stand, playing a little Battlefield Hardline, Tomb Raider and Portal 2 to name a few. However, OCUK poised themselves for another busy year by offering their “Delivery to Desk” service. Ideal for the LAN gamers situated throughout the RICOH Arena.

Along with the massive display of technology built into the systems, we also saw a few glass cabinets housing some hard drives, routers and the wholly special 2000w 8-Pack Superflower PSU; such an immense and underestimated unit.

Gigabyte Host Charity Raffle at Insomnia i54

Insomnia i54 is well under way now and to get things off to a great start, Gigabyte have been hosting a big charity raffle at the event, with the help of other sponsors such as AOC, HyperX, Antec and Tesoro. Tickets were £1 each, with enough tickets sold to fill out the main hall this afternoon for the prize draw.

Just check out some of the cool prizes below, X99 SOC Force motherboard from Gigabyte, an AOC Monitor, Antec chassis and a whole lot more!

The hall was packed with people eager to win, but also with those eager to support the charity, for which the raffle was held.

All the money raised from the raffle will be donated to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, so well done Gigabyte and everyone else involved in making this such a huge success!

GIGABYTE Is Part of the Big Charity Raffle at Insomnia 54

GIGABYTE, among others, are holding a big charity raffle at the Multiplay Insomnia i54 LAN event at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry this weekend, and it’s for a really worthy cause. There will be two raffles taking place at the Tesoro stand, one on Friday the 3rd of April and the second on the 4th of April, and you can win great prizes including AOC monitors, HyperX SDD’s, Antec cases, Tesoro keyboards and high-end GIGABYTE X99 and Z97 motherboards as well as a BRIX projector.

All proceeds will be donated to the local charity Zoë’s place, a baby hospice providing palliative, respite and end of life care for babies and infants aged from birth to five years suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. This is truly a worthy cause and I hope a lot of the gamers attending the Insomnia event will be very generous. And with the bonus of  having a chance to win amazing hardware, this really is a no-brainer. Participate!

GAME Acquires Multiplay for £20 Million!

It has been announced that GAME has acquired Multiplay, the company responsible for the Insomnia gaming events in the UK, for £20m.

As an avid gamer, modder and LAN attendee myself, it comes as no surprise that I attend the largest UK gaming event there is, Insomnia. These events started in 1999 with less than 50 attendees per event and rapidly grew to where we are now; a huge event with thousands of attendees per day and over 65 thousand people in total last year. Insomnia has a lot to offer, it has LAN gaming halls, exhibitions, special guests, eSports tournaments and more. The events have been increasingly getting more corporate and now GAME have taken notice and bought the business for an impressive £20M.

It is reported that Multiplay CEO Craig Fletcher will still be in charge of the event, but will now be reporting to GAME. Will this mean any changes to the events? Well, I hope not. I have attended around 20 Insomnia events, either working, as a BYOC gamer or as an exhibitor and I have booked time off for all 3 events this year. I hope with this acquisition we don’t see it turn into some kind of event tailored just to make money and goes back to catering to the gaming communities more than businesses. GAME has been in quite a lot of trouble in recent years, and even went into administration in 2012, so it is good to see that they are branching out into new areas. It’s important that they look to eSports and online gaming more increase their market, this seems an excellent way for them to do so.

Multiplay’s Craig Fletcher said: “GAME and Multiplay are both passionate about games and gaming, building valuable communities of gamers and putting customers first. Over the years we’ve worked closely with the GAME team on many occasions and come to know them well.”

I can only say that time will tell and the community will be the final judge. I hope to have a chat with Craig Fletcher in the coming days to see if we can get some more information as myself and eTeknix are huge fans of the event.

Game:ref, Hardware Based Anti-Cheat system

So we already have or at least know of anti-cheat software, most pre-installed into most multi player games, but what if a program is smart enough to work its way around the system. Introducing a prototype hardware based system. Game:ref is an input based anti-cheat system, it detects your input from mouse and keyboard and cross references that with what happened in the game; i.e. if you tap spacebar once, you only jump the standard height, not fly into space.

I guess some could see this as something that is unnecessary, you know you’re not going to cheat so you won’t buy or use one. Well what about the other players? Going to a gaming tournament, Insomnia or PAX, could become a lot more fair with the compulsory hand out and use of these little devices. This device will be based on open source platform to allow the maximised collaboration with developers and will be brought to Kickstarter soon with the hopes of raising enough money to become a real product.

Let us know what you think this anti-cheat device will bring to the table on our Facebook page and forums.

Thanks to PCGamesN for this information.

Minecraft at Insomnia i52

It might not have the size or the numbers that we see at Minecon, but Multiplays introduction of Minecraft to iSeries was one of the best things to ever happen to the event. The Minecraft exhibition is one of the biggest attractions here at the show and while it does appeal to all ages, it’s more common for families to come down with their kids to really get hands on with the game in a more social environment and learn about competitive eSports.

There have been loads of prizes given away, with many other competitions happing in and around the Minecraft featured events. The crowds are constantly enjoying this section of the show and there are always plenty of people either playing or waiting in line to jump in on the action.

If you’re a Minecraft fan or you want to see what all the fuss is about, then stop by and take part in the festivities.

Borderlands, League of Legends and Evolve at Insomnia i52

There are loads of gaming booths setup here at Insomnia i52, which obviously should go without saying given that this is a gaming event after all! jagex are here with their new Transformers game, Gearbox have brought along Borderlands: The Pre Sequel and League of Legends have a huge gaming setup, but most popular of all is Evolve. Evolve and Borderlands are commanding big waiting lines, but everyone seems happy to wait for a go on the games. Unfortunately we couldn’t get in to take pictures of the new games, as any attempt to photograph the screens resulted in some angry looks from the developers, but a few games on Borderlands and Evolve were enough to convince me that they’ll be two of the biggest selling games this year.

The League of Legends stand was run by Riot and had plenty of Corsair rigs running for gamers to sit down and try out the game, given the popularity of LoL here at the show, it’s nice for people to be able to see what all the fuss was about between the big money tournaments and eSports teams who are competing on this game over the weekend.

CCL Computers at Insomnia i52

CCL are one of the UKs top computer retailers and they’ve become one of the most popular booths here at iSeries due to their long lasting presence at the show. Not only are they on hand to offer a great range of products at special trade show prices, such as discounts on a range of Cooler Master peripherals, but they’ve also got competitions, games to play, rigs to try out and of course their legendary iSeries T-shirts, which are unique and highly desired at every show.

The team have been working hard and their booth has been packed all weekend, most likely thanks to it being the very first booth as you walk through the door. If you have chance to stop by and check out their playable gaming PCs, I highly recommend it and don’t forget to ask for your free T-shirt before they run out!

Chillblast at Insomnia i52

Chillblast are back at iSeries once again and they’ve brought along some of their latest gaming systems for you to try out on their booth. Most interesting of all their stuff has to be one of their little gaming laptops it’s hooked up with a couple of controllers for people to play Street Fighter, and given the competitive gaming nature of this show, it’s proving very popular.

They’ve also got a very nice triple monitor setup with a racing wheel, a real treat for those who can only dream of owning such a setup and anyone is welcome to sit down and play a few laps. If that’s not your thing then you can also try out many of today’s latest games on their AMD 295×2 gaming rig which has been fitted inside the lovely Aerocool DS Cube chassis.

If you’re at the show, make sure you take time to stop by this booth and check them out!

The Legendary Insomnia i52 Pub Quiz [Gallery]

We stopped by the legendary Insomnia pub quiz at i52. Multiplay are well known for their crazy antics at the quiz, a good laugh for those at the show and for those taking part / watching on the live stream. We know many eTeknix readers are at the show this weekend, so I put my beer down for long enough to whip around with the camera and see how many of you we could find, enjoy!

Gigabyte Booth at Insomnia i52

Gigabyte are no stranger to Insomnia events and we’re very happy to see them back again at this years show. They’ve brought along some of their latest and greatest products for everyone to get hands on with and try out and their booth is buzzing with activity and things to do.

One of the biggest draws for the Gigabyte booth is their Lego set. You can take part in their little competition and build one of their latest motherboards using the most popular toy in the world. Now I’m all for building motherboards with Lego (wouldn’t be the first time either!), but I’m not sure what’s more popular with the crowd, the fact that it’s a Gigabyte board, or the fact that they simply get to play with Lego, tough call. If that’s not your cup of tea, then they’ve also got a Gigabyte branded table football setup, games such as Plants Vs Zombies (more popular that you might think and a whole lot more, so drop by the booth and check it out as it’s a great chance to get on with some high-end gaming laptop, multi-monitor gaming rigs and other cool gadgets.

Of course you’ll also be able to check out their latest products and get information from the team who are on hand to answer any questions. Here’s hoping they’re back at i52, so long as they bring more Lego!

XFX and Eclipse Computers Booth at Insomnia i52

XFX and Eclipse computers are sharing a pretty cool booth here at Insomnia i52, it’s packed full of awesome gaming rigs from Eclipse Computers in a wide range of chassis such as the NZXT H440, the InWin 904 and the Aerocool DS Dead Silence Cube, giving visitors to the booth a great chance to see the kind of builds and quality they offer in their rigs.

They’ve got a triple  monitor gaming PC with a racing wheel setup too, but unfortunately for the XFX team someone got crazy and snapped the clams on the wheel, leaving it out of commission for a while… I didn’t even get a go on it before it broke!

They’ve rolled out their truly unique Type 01 Bravo chassis, the build is nothing fancy, but it does feature the gargantuan Radeon R9 295X2, a card that never fails to impress. While also having a range of XFX products such as their popular PSUs on display for you to come and check out.

Tesoro Booth at Insomnia i52

Tesoro are easily one of my all time favorite gaming brands, they’ve got a range of awesome and rather unique peripherals that to me, really stand out from the crowd. They’ve got a tidy little booth setup in the middle of the hall where you can get hands on with their headsets such as the Kuven 7.1, as well as their range of peripherals such as the Lobera Supreme, Tizona and more.

Not only that, but you can also buy these products from their booth, with some tasty trade show discounts too! That being said, there may be discounts, there may be great peripherals for you to try out and the staff on the booth are certainly polite and helpful… but they have free balloons! If free balloons aren’t enough to get you to the booth, nothing will be.

Razer Booth at Insomnia i52

We stopped by the Razer booth at Insomnia i52 to check out their latest gaming hardware and play some games. The Razer booth certainly stands out from the crowd here at iSeries, it’s pretty hard to ignore a giant green and black double decker bus inside a building. The Gamer Bus as it is know is proving pretty popular with the crowd and people are waiting patiently to get inside and play on the many gaming rigs that have been packed inside it.

Those not eager to get on a bus and play games can check out the main booth, packed to the brim with the latest Razer peripherals and it’s a great opportunity to get hands on with them as it can often be tricky to try things out if you generally shop online. The Razer team are also on hand to give out advise on their products and run you through the features, a great learning opportunity for those that don’t know their membrane from the Cherry MX.

Finally we’ve got the mini Razer stage, great for pulling up a chair and enjoying some of the tournaments here at the show. If you’re at the show, you can’t miss the Razer booth, so stop by and have some fun!

MSI Booth at Insomnia i52

The MSI booth has been really busy this weekend, so we stopped by to check out what all fuss was about. The first thing you’ll see is this massive MSI box Jenga, pretty self explanatory and certainly a lot of fun to play around with.

There are loads of awesome gaming PCs on display for you to try out and play some great games.

There are a load of prizes to be won, bargains to be found both in and around the booth.

A pair of high end gaming rigs setup, the one on the left is the MSI Nightblade, the rig on the right is a custom build courtesy of Tom Logan (TTL).

Anyone is free to take a turn on these rigs, play a few laps and set the fastest time they can, with prizes being given to those who come out on top.

Another one of the many custom Parvum rigs at this weekends show, this one comes with dual stacked front rads and is of course fitted with MSI components.

:eague of Legends tournament, drop by, play a few rounds, perhaps win some awesome MSI branded SteelSeries headsets.

Their flagship GT72 gaming laptop, this is a brand new system from them and it is an absolute beast!

There is still a lot more coverage from this weekends show to come, so stay tuned for even more!

Kingston & iiyama Booth at Insomnia i52

It looks like iiyama and Kingston have joined forces this year for a shared booth, although in fairness this whole booth is a shrine to many other brands too, with OCUK, Cube, NZXT, Team Dignitas and more having products strutting their stuff around it.

The booth is kitted out with high-end gaming rigs and they’ve got their eSports team lined up here on Hyperx / iiyama equipped systems, doing what they do best, play games!

A custom Hyper X Parvum chassis.

4K monitors hooked up to high-end rigs, what’s not to love!

Some fun and games.

Check back shortly as we’ll have even more coverage from this weekends event here in Coventry.

Overclockers UK Booth at Insomnia i52

We’re hanging out at the Overclockers UK booth chatting with legendary overclocked and modder 8 Pack (pictured above on the left). Overclockers are one of the biggest and best computer retailers here in the UK and they’ve brought all kinds of cool gadgets along with them for you to check out at the show.

They’re also still running their famous deliver to desk service, providing a life line for those in need of replacement parts, upgrades and more at the show, a vital service when you have a few thousand games in the other halls.

The Nvidia Shield tablet was on display for people to try out, so far it has been a popular attraction and we’re certainly fans of this mighty powerful little device.

Overclockers sell gaming PCs and their booth is littered with many of their popular choices, ready for you to pull up a seat and play some games.

The Emperor gaming rig is here again, always a show favourite and the crowd just loves having a go on this £10,000 behemoth setup that is unlike any gaming desk on the market.

That’s everything from this booth for today, but we’ll be back shortly with even more coverage from this weekends event.

PC Specialist Booth at Insomnia i52

Time to check out the booth of the awesome PC Specialist, they’ve rocked up with their latest gaming rigs for lucky punters to try out. They’ve got loads of high-end gaming PCs as well as a wide collection of high-end gaming laptops running many of the latest games for you to stop by and try out.

Obviously PC Specialist sell systems which can be made to order, but this booth is a great chance to find out how well they perform and see what this company is all about. They’re also running some competitions on the booth, so if you get chance to stop by, we highly recommend you do.

That’s everything from the PC Specialist booth for now, but check back later as we will have more great coverage from this weekends event.

InWin Booth at Insomnia i52

Here we are at the InWin booth at Insomnia i52 and they’ve rolled out their latest and greatest products for everyone at the show to checkout and enjoy. Most notable is the S-Frame in the back, the D-Frame and their soon to be released D-Frame Mini chassis.

They’ve got plenty of games running on their rigs for people to stop by and play, while they’re on the booth they can learn about who InWin are and what products they have right now. Some really nice builds on show here and well worth checking out if you’re at the show.

That’s everything from the InWin booth for today, check back shortly as we bring you even more coverage from this weekends event.

Scan Computers Booth at Insomnia i52

The Insomnia i52 event in Coventry, UK, is now in full swing and the crowds are flooding through the doors to check out the latest and greatest technology in the exhibitors hall. Our first stop this weekend is the Scan booth, they’ve got some really great stuff on display this time around, ranging from peripherals, PC cases, graphics cards and plenty of systems setup for people to take a seat and enjoy some gaming action on many of today’s latest games.

First up we have the new be quiet! chassis, which we’ll have in for review very soon, so stay tuned for more on this one!

The new Corsair RGB keyboard strutting its funky stuff.

The lovely new Air 240 kitted out with a custom water cooled build.

The robotic looking teletubby rocked up to say hi, awesome outfit, but I’m not sure why or what he was trying to promote.

The new Scan 3XS Battlebox Z, not cheap, but with a Titan in there, you know it packs some serious punch.

A custom 3XS system on display, The Bear.

More gaming rigs setup for people to drop by and play some games, each kitted with Corsair chassis and Asus peripherals.

A custom Red Harbinger desk fitted with a high end gaming rig, three monitors and a PlayStation 4.

Even more gaming rigs to play on.

Their ultimate racing rig setup.

More custom rigs and a sales desk for those wanting to purchase items, take advantage of even deals and more.

That’s everything from the Scan booth for today, but we’ll be back with more coverage of i52 very shortly.
