BIOSTAR is a hardware manufacturer which caters to a wide range of price points and often releases products to perfectly suit the budget-conscience consumer. Today, the company announced their latest motherboard based on Intel’s Skylake architecture. The Hi-Fi H170S3H features Hi-Fi Audio, Hi-Fi Power and 3D Hi-Fi to provide a wonderful listening experience. Furthermore, there is native support for PCIe M.2 SSDs and apparently DDR3 memory modules. However, I’m pretty sure that’s a typo and meant to say DDR3L DIMMs. This is because the Z170 and H170 chipsets utilize memory with a lower voltage. The motherboard supports up to 32GB of 1333/1600MHz RAM.
While H170 is designed for budget systems, it allows for a decent quantity of USB 3.0 connectors. The Rear I/O also contains two PS/2 ports, a DVI-D, dual HDMI capable of powering a 4K display, two USB 2.0, Realtek RTL8111H RJ45 port and Realtek ALC887 8-Channel HD Audio.
Other key specifications include two PCIe x16 slots, two SATA 3 ports, one SATA Express, and a dedicated audio path. Furthermore, the advanced power design and voltage regulation increases stability. BIOSTAR have set a recommended retail price of $84.90 and customers can purchase the motherboard directly from their eBay store. However, please note the shipping costs are quite high and import duties will be charged in certain regions.

In terms of spec, this little chassis is well equipped, with room for a single 2.5″ HDD/SSD, but you can squeeze some M.2 drives on your compatible NUC board should you need to.
The chassis is constructed from aluminium, which not only looks stunning with its black finish and silver time highlights on the edges of the front panel, but it also doubles up as the heatsink for the CPU. The entire chassis is designed to provide passive cooling for the internal hardware and that’s why the length of the chassis is so much longer than the 4-inch motherboard, to help better handle the heat of a high-end chip, such as the i7.

The front panel is gorgeous, good enough to look at home as part of a sleek HTPC setup without being distracting while you’re watching a movie. It’s well equipped too, with a pair of high-speed USB 3.0 ports, an HD audio jack and the usual power buttons.
Around the back, you’ll find the motherboard I/O ports and two rubber pegs that can be removed to allow you to use Wi-Fi antenna.
There’s even a second backplate included in the box for i5 NUC boards, as well as offering support for COM port, something that’s still very widely used for a lot of industrial applications.

The base of the chassis is nice and simple, but if you look closely you’ll see a few screw holes. There’s a mounting kit included, perfect for stealth mounting the unit or fitting it to a compatible VESA bracket.

Despite opting for a fairly compact design, Cyberpower dispatched the sample in a massive box which caught me by surprise. However, you can’t be too careful when trying to protect sensitive PC components.
The external packaging is surrounded by a huge quantity of airbags, which cushions the accessory box and main chassis. This is splendid and ensures the system arrives without any mechanical damage or cosmetic flaws.
Here we can see how small the chassis is and standard packaging. Notice how there’s no buckling to the cardboard sides or tape coming apart. This illustrates how well the system has been protected and I’m very happy with Cyberpower’s attentive approach.
On the inside, there is some heavy-duty bubble wrap, a protective cover and flexible foam inserts. These combine to reduce any damage if the system is dropped or mishandled.
In terms of accessories, the PC contains user manuals, driver disks, WiFi antennas, SATA data cables, additional SATA power cable, UK plug and chassis stand. I personally didn’t feel the need to use the stand, but it helps to keep the system upright on certain surfaces.

While the Windows 10 box art from Microsoft was pretty bland, Intel sure is spicing things up with their new Skylake packaging. In a series of leaked images, we are treated to the new box art of the i7 6700K and i5 6600K and boy do they hearken back to the old days. The last time I recall seeing a similar design was back with the original Pentium series up until Pentium IV.
Intel looks to have taken a liking to the old blur of the Pentiums, with the blurred lines likely trying to invoke a sense of speed. the i7 takes on a warmer red/purple/orange hue while the i5 sticks with plain old green/blue. At that point though, the similarities end, with Skylake coming with the now standard stickers for LGA 1151 and the one showing all the specifications. The manufacturing location is listed as Malaysia, which reminds us of the fact that Intel has closed down their Costa Rica packaging facility.
From the box window, we can see that the steppings are SR2BR and SR2BV for the 6700K and 6600K respectively. The product code is BX80662I76700K for the i7 and batch # is L519B744. Clock speeds are also what previous reports and images have shown, at 4.0Ghz nad 3.5Ghz respectively. Both ship with support for DDR4 and DDR3L as well as integrating intel’s HD 530 graphics. With actual retail chips and boxes being leaked, there is little doubt that Skylake should launch within the week.
MSI has been busy getting everything updated and ready for the Windows 10 launch and we’ve seen quite a few new products launched these few days. The latest on is an all-in-one PC called the Pro 24 2M and it is as the name suggests from the professional series of all-in-one PCs.
The Pro 24 2M is fully compatible with Windows 10 and also comes with the brand new operating system installed. It is based on an Intel Core i5-4460S CPU and the Intel H81 chipset. It comes with 4GB DDR3 memory and can be upgraded to 16GB total. The 500GB 3.5-inch hard drive takes care of the storage while it also features a card reader and plenty of other connectivity options.
The Pro 24 2M can be used with two types of stands. By default it is delivered with the holder, in this diagonal stance it’s an ideal standing work solution. Optional there is a foot stand, which makes it possible to make use of more flexible modes and angles.
You get Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 2.0, and four USB 3.0 ports next to the HDMI and D-Sub VGA outs. It also features two serial ports and audio jacks. The monitor is a 23.6-inch LED backlight panel with full HD resolution and 2-point touch. It also comes with a front facing 1MP web camera.
Despite a much-anticipated launch for Skylake within the next two weeks, Intel looks to be in trouble on the supply side. According to multiple sources, supply for the i7 6700K and i5 6600K is severely limited and the initial stock is not expected to last long. Several unnamed Taiwanese firms also have had issues in supplying reviewers with Skylake chips to pair with their launch motherboard reviews.
Marketing director Anton Nilsson for Swedish retailer Webhallen had this to say on the supply situation:
We have a small number of processors and motherboards coming. They confirmed deliveries will not be enough for a whole week, rather a few days. Unfortunately, it also seems that those of our PC series most interesting motherboard is further delayed about a month.
So basically, even though Intel is only launching two chips at first, supply might as well be so limited, Intel may have well delayed the launch by a month. The fact that Intel is only launching two chips first also suggests that Intel knew this going in and was already trying to mitigate the issue. It’s important to note that while Intel may have low supply relative to demand, it doesn’t mean they aren’t producing a ton of chips, just that it’s not able to satisfy demand.
Of all the recent process nodes, 14nm has given Intel the most trouble, causing desktop Broadwell to be delayed by nearly a year and even then, the chips were vaporware for quite a while after launch. If Skylake continues this trend despite 14nm production already being ramped up for more than a year, yields must have been really bad when Intel first started it. With delays for 10nm also being built into Intel’s roadmap, we can only hope that Skylake will be worth the wait.

Some people are waiting with high anticipation for Intel to release their newest platform, Skylake, while others don’t care as much as they’ve recently upgraded to the current platform. If you are a member of the first group, then you won’t have to wait much longer as the release date for the first CPUs in the series as well as the first motherboards have been revealed.
Benchlife got the scoop and they weren’t slow to release it – meaning that we also can bring you this news. The first CPUs to be released are the Core i7-6700K and the Core i5-6600K and they will be released on August 5th and not between the 6th and 9th as previously reported.
A new CPU also needs a new motherboard to go along and we saw a lot of gorgeous ones during out visit to Computex last month. The Z170 chipset will be the new flagship and it will be released on the same day. After all, what good is a brand new CPU without a motherboard?
The i7-6700, i5-6600, and i5-6400 as well as the i7-6700T, i5-6600T, and i5-6400T processors are scheduled for a release between August 30th and September 5th. The same goes for the H170, B150, and H110 chipset based motherboards. Enterprise level Q170 and Q150 will have to wait until at least October before they get the newest technology out of the house of Intel.
With the launch of Intel’s next iteration of CPU’s just around the corner, rumours have been circulating media outlets for a short while. This can be in the form of pricing or unreleased specifications or even pictures of the naked PCB.
Information is now coming around that the release of the Skylake processors will be staggered, much like how AMD are currently doing with the R9 Fury range or NVIDIA has done with the GTX 900 series. What we have deduced is that in the first wave of releases, we will only be able to purchase the more desirable CPU’s, the i7-6700k, i5-6600k and a currently unknown, but what can be assumed as the i5-6500k; however, that is purely my assumption.
We already know the pricing of the i7-6700k to be somewhere in the region of $400 and the i5-6600k around $280, so the possibility of a higher range i5 or lower range i7 could be quite high to fill in the $300 region.
What we have also seen through these sources is that even though these are the HOT chips, stock will be extremely limited. Could this be due to poor manufacturing processes of the new 14nm silicon or maybe prices could be raised due to high demand; who knows.

Those who are waiting for the next generation Intel processors don’t have to wait that much longer as it looks like they will officially be launched sometime between August 6th and 9th. Although that date isn’t official, it seems to be a very reasonable one as the first shops have started to list the CPUs and allow you to pre-order them.
There aren’t any CPU specification on the site, instead there is the name, a price, and an order button. The i5-6600K (BX80662I56600K) is currently listed for €279.05 while the i7-6700K (BX80662I76700K) will set you back $401.59.
Those aren’t cheap prices, but we all know what to expect when shopping for Intel CPUs; you pay a premium to get a great CPU.
These Skylake chips are Intel’s first 14nm chips based ones and they will move the VRM off the CPU package and back on to the motherboard, likely reducing the heat given off the CPU package and improve the overclock-ability. DDR4 will also be standard but DDR3L may also be supported, but that will dependents on the new LGA 1151 motherboards and Z170 chipset for unlocked chips. Other notable additions are the new AVX512 instructions, Thunderbolt 3, 20 PCIE 3.0 lanes and L4 eDRAM cache. The CPUs run at 3.5/3.9Ghz and 4.0/4.2Ghz for the i5 and i7 respectively.
When I found out I’d be reviewing this laptop from PC Specialist I decided to check out their site and do some homework to see what I was getting. Having no hands on experiences with Intel’s new Broadwell chips previous to this meant I finally get a chance to see what all of the Broadwell fuss was out, or perhaps to discover it was just marketing hype. After a while of making the cheapest and most expensive builds possible to curb my curiosity my very own review unit had arrived. Reading the spec list I was given ahead of the arrival, features like “5th Gen i5 Broadwell CPU”, “1080p 13.3″ screen”, “250GB SSD” were all ticking the right boxes to me, but when I seen how remarkably thin the chassis was on the website photos it was then my interest peaked.
The question is though, is it as good as it looks or is it all style and no substance? Let’s get this unboxed and find out!

Today we are taking a look at Gigabyte’s Intel i5 5200U powered BRIX. Gigabyte has an impressive array of BRIX models that come in at all different performance levels with many CPU options and even options with discrete GPUs. The small form factor computer business has been exploding the last few years due in part with parts shrinking and their abilities skyrocketing. Many people have been buying small form factor units deciding to use them as business or daily workstations due to the low power consumption, helping to lower costs. Others love these small boxes for use as home theater PCs (HTPCs) since they can be tucked out of the way and will generally not be heard over ambient sound in the home theater. The specs for this BRIX look promising for use in both situations so let’s take a closer look and see just how well it would perform in these tasks.

Printed materials and hardware that the BRIX comes with. You will get a power adapter and power cord to hook up the BRIX as well as all the screws that you will need to mount your SSD or HDD and use the VESA mount if you wish. The DVD and printed materials are toss away materials in my opinion since the most up to date drivers and materials can be downloaded from the support website.
Delayed so long that rumors were spreading that there would never be a desktop launch, Intel has at last launched Broadwell for the desktop. The meant to follow the Haswell Tock, Broadwell was aimed at improving efficiency, quite minor tweaks and a move to the 14nm process. The complexity of 14nm production caused Broadwell to be severely delayed, with only Core-M, a mobile variant, being released last year. Desktop users had to make do with Haswell-Refresh but no more.
While there are mobile Broadwell chips launching today, the focus is on the 5 desktop CPUs. There are the i5-5575R, i5-5675R, i5-5675C, i7-5775R, and i7-5775C. All 5 processors are compatible with Z97 and H97 motherboards. However, with the exception of the C processors, they are all BGA chips, meaning they come soldered directly onto the motherboard. This means the R chips, like the 4770R before, will likely only be sold by OEMs or as part of a motherboard bundle. The C chips being unlocked (C is the new K), are LGA and the standard BIOS update for your motherboard should suffice.
The biggest change is for the frist time, Intel’s Iris Pro graphics, in this case, HD6200, are being sold with an LGA and overclockable SKU. While most users getting an unlocked chip tend to use dGPU, the addition of a strong iGPU is good for cases where you need to do an RMA or the dGPU croaks. More importantly, Iris Pro graphics means the chip comes with Crystal well, a 128MB eDRAM that acts like L4 cache. This fast low latency memory can provide a boost to single threaded performance that many might be interested in.
Broadwell on desktop, despite being unlocked and with an eDRAM cache, may face a cold reception. Skylake, Intel’s next Tock with a new architecture, is set to release later this year. With its replacement on its way o soon, Broadwell may have a tough time convincing consumers it’s a viable choice. Maybe Intel may ver well surprise us by holding Skylake desktop back, or maybe it’ll refrain from offering eDRAM on the i7 6700K? The issue becomes dicier as Broadwell desktop is only set for public availability near the end of the month.

You can configure your system directly on EUROCOM’s website where the fun begins at £588 and a fully equipped model easily costs you £2386. However, for that price you will get a 1TB HDD and 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, pre-installed Windows with retail disk and ac/a/b/g/n and Bluetooth Wireless abilities.
We are nearing the start of Computex and retailers are already eager to list what they have to offer once products get launched. This is the case of Intel’s Broadwell Core i5-5675C and Core i7-5775C CPUs, which will launch during the first week of June.
Before anything else, I would like to point out that all Broadwell processors will feature four cores and come with the Iris Pro 6200 graphics solution. They also have a low power consumption of 65W and we will even see a couple of them compatible with the LGA1150 socket. To clarify everything, all models ending in ‘C’ will have support for the LGA1150 socket, while the ones ending in ‘R’ will only be BGA1364 compatible.
In addition to the latter, the ‘C’ models will be the ones that come with unlocked multipliers, as we previously seen with the ‘K’ and ‘X’ models, and we will only see a 4MB L3 catch with no hyper threading for the i5’s.
Now to the part you were all waiting for. Retailer such as NCIX (via Guru3D) already priced the i7-5775C with a pre-order tag of $499.99. Before you go enraged by the latter price tag, remember that prices are subject to change and even so, they are likely to go down after a while. So what do you think about the current price? We’ve been waiting for a new processor for a while, AMD recently released the A8-7850K, but no mainstream processor options. Well Intel have finally announced the release date of the Broadwell 14nm processors; June 2nd.
Going on Intel’s ‘Tick Tock’ CPU roadmap, these will be the ‘tick’ of the new 14nm process; since Ivybridge the ‘tick’ process has been slightly problematic. Originally the Ivybridge i5-3570k had thermal issues with some users resorting to ‘de-lidding’; the same reportedly happened to these Broadwell CPU’s, hence the exceptionally late release date.
The CPU’s due to be released are the Core i7-5775k and the Core i5-5675k. These will be similar to the current i7 and i5 k series chips; the i7 will be a quad core with hyperthreading, 3.3GHz base clock and 3.7GHz boost clock speed. The i5 will be a simple quad core and have a slightly lower base clock and turbo clock of 3.1GHx and 3.6GHz respectively. Both chips will feature 6MB last level cache, Intel Iris Pro 6200 graphics and a TDP as low as 65W.
These processors will be released extremely late, which will be close to the release of the Intel Skylake processors in early Autumn, but what makes these appealing is the compatibility with the current Z97 chipset.

If you wanted a powerhouse console for your living room, Asus just came forth with a solution. The company just announced its RG6 ROG console-inspired gaming PC, featuring a minimalistic and extremely silent design.
The RG6 looks to maintain the company’s Republic of Gamers design and is powered by an Intel i5 5th Gen Broadwell CPU, 8GB DDR3L which is also upgradeable to 16GB, Nvidia’s GTX 960M graphics solution and even comes with an optional SSD slot. The company looks to have added one of their ROG M801 keyboard and Sica RA01 mouse in the bundle too.
Aside from its ultra-silent operating environment, outputting 20dB in idle and 28 dB in full-load, the RG6 comes with a built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Intel Gigabit Ethernet with GameFirst III that aims to provide lag-free connectivity. In terms of connectivity, the gaming-PC comes with a HDMI and DisplayPort output, four USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports that also feature a USB Charger option.
When it comes to the audio, the RG6 comes with the SupremeFX ELNA audio capacitors that offer to connect you system with either the HDMI or S/PDIF optical port. In addition to the latter, audio jacks are available on both the front and back of the console. Its Sonic Studio also aims to help you personalize sound modes and te equalizer.
Asus’ RG6 comes pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and has support for Steam Big Picture Launcher out-of-the-box, even if you choose to use just a game-pad controller, giving user an additional option to add the SteamOS just as easily after the console is officially launched.
Other features include AI Suite III that lets you customize the system’s settings, a 100GB ASUS WebStorage for a year, the HomeCloud that lets you access the console remotely and a one-year license for Kaspersky’s antivirus software.
There is still no word on pricing or availability for the Asus RG6, but more news on this matter is bound to be released soon.
The newest motherboard to come from BIOSTAR is the micro-ATX sized Intel H81-based H81MDC-LSP motherboard. The new motherboard supports Intel’s 4th generation Core i7 and i5 processors and comes with upgraded sound chip and LAN surge protection. The H81 chipset provides the board with two SATA3 and four SATA2 ports, two USB 3.0 ports and support for up to 1600MHz memory of which you can have up to 16GB on the two slots. The new BIOSTAR motherboard looks to be a great combination of features packed in a small form factor with a low cost.
You rarely need more options in an SFF build than one expansion card and two high-speed drives, so why spend money on more than you need. It also supports HDMI video-out through the iGPU, but that must be through an adapter as it doesn’t have a port for it, and it of course also features Intel’s Rapid Start Technology and Smart Connect Technology.
The H81MDC-LSP is built with the X.D.C (eXtreme Durable Capacitors) solid capacitors with a lifetime that can be more than 6.25 times that of ordinary liquid caps. Further protections come in for of the Super LAN Surge protection which provides a LAN port with more advanced anti-static protection capabilities by adding an integrated chip to strengthen electrical stability and prevent damage from lightning strikes and electrical surges.
The boards also feature the latest BIOSTAR technologies such as BIOS Flasher and BIOS Online Update for easy updating and restoration of the BIOS, as well as BIO-Remote2 for remote control of the system via Android and Apple devices.
Lastly, the H81MDC-LSP also features the Charger Booster function for charging those devices that need more power than normal USB ports can provide, such as the iPad, but also works iPhone and Android phones and tablets. It will provide a faster and more efficient charging and can decrease the time needed to charge up to 42%.
The BIOSTAR H81MDC-LSP is a cheap motherboard despite its feature set and the MSRP is set to $49 USD.
MSI has just launched its MS-98G5 industrial motherboard with an embedded processing and graphics solution. The motherboard is based on the mini-ITX form factor and Intel 4th Gen QM87/HM86 architecture that comes with a BGA-type Haswell/Broadwell Mobile Core i7, i5, i3 or Celeron CPU, various displays, 1 PCIe x16, 8 USB 2.0 and 4 USB 3.0 ports, 5 COM ports, a SATA 3.0 connector, and 2 mini-PCIe slots.
The MS-98G5 is flexible in terms of system integrators, having the auto-switch DC 12/19V power inputs bring more possibilities of display deployment, I/O connection and extra expansion. The motherboard features HDMI, DP, DVI-I, and LVDS in terms of outputs and the HD Graphics as a graphical solution, giving it the high-performance Intel 4th Gen kernel the industrial sector needs for various industrial applications.

Sources have now confirmed to Chinese VR-Zone that Intel will only be launching two Broadwell desktop processors in Q2 2015. The new CPUs are based on the LGA1150 pin layout and will be compatible with the current Z97 motherboards. ASUS and ASRock have also recently announced that their current motherboards will be able to handle the new 14nm Broadwell processors with a BIOS update. The two new CPUs will be the Intel Core i7-5775C and Core i5-5675C.
It is unknown what the C stands for in the product names, but the processors are unlocked for overclocking like the previous K models were. Maybe a name change? maybe an error. Time will tell. The new i7 has four cores and eight threads running at a base frequency of 3.3GHz and with a turbo to 3.7GHz while the i5 has a base speed of 3.1GHz and a Turbo of 3.6GHz on its four cores, four threads base. The i7 comes with 6MB cache while the i5 only has 4MB and both are powered by the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 iGPU.

Gigabyte has announced its new generation of Brix barebones PCs that offer a range of Broadwell CPUs and storage options to customers wanting a small office PC solution.
The new Brixes are said to be available in two sizes, one with room for a 2.5″ storage and another without the latter option. Both solutions are said to come with Intel’s Core i5-5200U or Core i3-5010U CPUs, having a higher model upgradeable to a Core i7-5500U and coming with an additional NFC upgrade.
All new Brix models come with the Intel HD Graphics 5500 and can connect through a HDMI and mini DisplayPort output. The miniaturised PCs also come with Intel wireless-AC cards, allowing them to connect to any wireless source with ease. A small downside to Gigabyte’s Brix lineup is the lack of M.2 storage, having them rely on the mSATA technology.
Up until now, only the Brix BHi3H-5010 model has been spotted on the market with a price tag of $290. The Brix BXi5H-5200, BXi3-5010, BXi5-5200 and BXi7-5500 models are yet to hit the market, but anyone wanting to buy one of them should expect a price tag of between $250 and $500 for the latter models.

We know Samsung has its thing with curved displays, one of the examples being the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However, now the company appears to take its curved display technology to the PC market as well, having planned to launch a new all-in-one PC, the Ativ One 7, featuring the technology on the 8th of March.
The company first showcased its design at CES, featuring a 27″ curved display with a curvature of 4000R. In terms of specs, the Ativ One 7 comes equipped with an Intel i5 CPU, 8GB Ram and 1TB of storage, classifying it as a ‘good family PC’.
The price will be a bit steep though. Even if the specs do not look so amazing, the curved display technology will still add extra to the price. Samsung is said to be selling the PC for $1299 in the US, with pricing for the UK and Europe still unconfirmed.

Shuttle has announced their DS57U Slim PC based around the latest Intel Broadwell platform. The base model comes with a 14nm Intel Celeron 3205U 1.5GHz dual-core processor that has a maximum TDP of only 15W. The graphics power is provided by Intel HD Graphics with both HDMI and DisplayPort for dual-screen setups.
There are three further models (SKUs) that provide more power and support for 4K/Ultra HD video playback, the DS57U3 (i3-5005U), DS57U5 (i5-5200U), and DS57U7 (i7-5500U).
The fanless unit would be perfect in any office or living environment and won’t gauge on the electricity bill either. It comes with a 65W power adapter which in itself keeps the running costs as low as a good old-fashioned light bulb. The DS57U is certified for 24/7 use and can easily be adapted to digital signage as well as thin-client.
The durable metal chassis houses four USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0, two serial COM ports (RS232, RS232/422/485), dual intel Gigabit Ethernet, b/g/n WiFi, a SD Card reader as well as MIC in, Line out and a clear CMOS button.
The system supports two DDR3L-1333/1600 SO-DIMM modules for a total of up to 16GB RAM. There is only one SATA slot for a 2.5-inch drive, but that should be sufficient for most areas of use. The 39.5mm thin unit is also VESA mountable.
No official word on pricing or availability yet. A single Austrian web shop has it listed for €224.24, but no availability date.

The European subsidiary of Shuttle has released their latest and most powerful Mini-PC Barebone system, the Shuttle XH97V. Powered by the Intel H97 chipset and the LGA1150 socket for fourth and fifth generation Intel Core processors and having a volume of just 3.5 liters, make these new Barebones great for a multitude of scenarios.
Just because something is small, doesn’t mean that it can’t pack a punch. Shuttle is a master in this area and they’ve packed this tiny 240 x 200 x 72 mm slim X-type chassis with basic features and expansion options to meet both 4K media presentations, as well as office productivity. This is also the first Shuttle mini-PC barebone to support simultaneous use of up to three displays out of the box.
The front ports are hidden behind moveable panels to offer a better dust protection as well as giving the unit a cleaner look. Opening up the panels expose the two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, and there’s also two 3.5mm audio jacks for headphones and microphone. It has room for an optical disk drive (ODD) with a max height of 12.7mm, seen at the top of the photo.
Users who don’t need an optical drive can use the bay for an additional 2.5-inch drive. Speaking of 2.5-inch drives, the Shuttle XH97V can hold a 12.7 mm and a 9.5mm drive beside the optional one in the ODD tray allowing you to install up to three SATA3 2.5-inch drives in this tiny unit.
The rear of the Barebone offers just as much connectivity as the front with two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports. Shuttle also added an eSATA2 and an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port. The Ethernet is powered by the Realtek 8111G Ethernet controller. The three 3.5mm jacks for the 5.1 surround sound are run by the Realtek ALC 662 HD Audio Codec.
There are two DisplayPort 1.2 and one HDMI 1.4 ports for up to three simultaneous display connections. The DisplayPorts can display 4k content in 60Hz while the HDMI port does it at half the refresh rate; 30Hz.
There is also a COM port, clear CMOS button and a DC IN for the power brick. The Kensington-style lock is cleverly placed to pass through both parts of the chassis, allowing Shuttle to use thumbscrews for the chassis and still being intrusion safe.
The motherboard inside is a standard mITX form-factor and it can handle up to 16GB memory over the two SO-DIMM slots. The maximum memory speed will depend on what CPU you use. The H97 chipset and LGA1150 (H3) socket gives you a wide variety of options from Core i3 / i5 / i7 processors as well as Pentium and Celeron models with a max TDP of 65W.
The XH97V doesn’t stop there and offers another two mini PCI Express expansion slots, one half-sized and one full-sized. The half-sized supports PCIe 2.0 and USB 2.0 and is intended for use with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cards. The full-sized also supports SATA3 and can be used for mSATA drives as well.
Shuttle only used solid capacitors in this system and the processor cooling uses an integrated heat-pipe system with two 60mm fans. It also has an Always-On jumper that when set will make the system automatically boot after power loss.
The new Shuttle Barebone XH97V is available at retailers across Europe now or very soon and it has an MSRP €193,00 exclusive VAT. At some retailers, it’s already down to €186.47 inclusive VAT before it even has arrived in their storage.

Dell has announced the newest member to their gaming laptops, the Alienware 13 Gaming Laptop. With a screen size of just 13 inches, it will be the smallest in the line-up. It weighs only 2.04Kg and is less then an inch thick. To be able to keep up with gaming demands, it features either the Intel ultra-low-voltage i5’s or i7’s CPU’s and up to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU.
Optically it looks like the other Alienware laptops, just a bit smaller. Perhaps an reaction to the slim Razer Blade gaming laptops. By decreasing the screen size 1 inch, Dell managed to cut away 900 gram of weight and 19 mm of the thickness. Of course newer technology also helps.
The Alienware 13 will offer a wider variety of customization, for example the choice of 1366 x 768, 1920 x 1080, 2560 x 1440, 3200 x 1800, touch panel options. It’s being launched with Haswell, but Broadwell intentions have been signalled.
Both Engadget and PCMag have had their hands on this device already, but everyone else will have to wait until it’s launched in November. I’m sure more details will emerge before, they always do, so stay tuned.

OriginPC was one of the first manufacturers to offer the monstrous Titan Z card in their custom-build PCs. However, the chassis availability capable of housing the graphics card was limited, until now that is.
The manufacturer announced that NVIDIA’s Titan Z can now fit in some if its select mini-ATX cases, making the company one of the first to offer the smallest 4K PCs on the market. The mini-ATX line capable of handling the Titan Z is the Chronos lineup, having the Corsair 250D and Silverstone RVZ01 mini-ATX cases up for grabs for users wanting a small-size Titan Z configuration.
The Titan Z base configuration announced for the Chronos lineup is set to include Intel’s i5 4460 clocked at 3.2 GHz, the ASUS H97I motherboard, 8 GB of Kingston HyperX memory and a 500 GB hard disk solution, all being priced at $4600.
In addition, CyberpowerPC appears to have announced their own new small form factor PC builds with the addition of the Fang Battlebox. The small form factor case is said to be ready for travel, allowing for a small cage to be fitted inside of a hand plastic carrying case in order for users to take their builds to gaming parties or other gaming events.
Though the Battlebox is designed to be compact, the company states that the design was made with airflow in mind, having and additional option for water-cooling solutions as well, depending on the unit and selected video card. A quick swap tray for hard drives has also been fitted inside the box, having users granted a way to quickly swap between work and leisure data wherever they travel.
In terms of base specifications, the Fang Battlebox is said to one with Intel’s Core i3 4150, 8 GB of memory, 1 TB hard drive solution and integrated graphics, having CyberpowerPC pricing it at $620. Users who want more can get the Intel i7 4770K, 16 GB of memory, 2 TB of hard drive and 128 GB of SSD solutions, as well as NVIDIA’s GTX 780 configuration at the price of $1600.
Having AMD release its official roadmap, Intel is apparently not far behind in releasing such information. An official roadmap detailing Intel’s plans for this year has been revealed. The roadmap states that Intel is planning to delay its Devil’s Canyon CPU launch date from June 2nd 2014 to Q3 2014.
Intel will only announce its Devil’s Canyon processors at Computex 2014 in June, where sources indicate it will also hold an overclocking competition as well, where users can test out the Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4690K processors. It is also said that a few retailers have already listed the Core i7-4790K, Core i5-4690K and Pentium G3258 CPUs for pre-order. However, they will not start shipping until September. Also, most motherboard manufacturers are holding out until Devil’s Canyon release before they start shipping the Z97 motherboards.

Intel’s Core i7-4790K apparently will be the first 22nm consumer CPU from the Haswell Refresh lineup to come with a clock speed of a staggering 4 GHz and a boost speed of 4.4 GHz, featuring 4 cores and 8 threads. It is also stated to come with an unlocked design, allowing users to overclock the CPU over its limits thanks to its improved thermal design and updated package material. The Core i7-4790K is said to feature a TDP of 88W and feature the latest Intel HD 4600 graphics chip clocked at 1250 MHz. A price for this chip is suggested by pre-ordering sites at around $359.99.
The Core i5-4690K seems to be the fastest i5 series Intel CPU, with a stock speed of 3.5 GHz and boost of 3.9 GHz. It will feature 4 cores and 4 threads along with an unlocked design as the i7-4790K, having a similar TDP of 88W and HD 4600 graphics clocked at 1250 MHz. The price specified or this Haswell Refresh i5 is stated to be around $249.99.
The roadmap also seems to confirm the Haswell-E shipping date, planned for September 2014. The Haswell-E is dubbed the true HEDT platform targeted for enthusiasts and overclockers alike, featuring support for next generation 8 and 6 core SKUs based on Haswell’s 22nm architecture and also the first to support the latest DDR4 memory.
The last announcement on Intel’s roadmap features the Broadwell, which is stated to have a launch date set for late Q1 2015. Rumors also speculate of the lineup being pushed beyond the Q1 2015 date to Q2, while the Broadwell Mobility lineup is said to be coming somewhere in Q4 2014. The Broadwell lineup will be Intel’s first 14nm consumer chip heading for mobility platforms late this year and desktop platforms somewhere in the first two quarters of next year.
