Ubisoft Confirms The Division Will Have Multi GPU Support And More!

Ubisoft has historically struggled to produce optimized PC versions of their major game releases which scale properly across a wide range of hardware configurations. For example, Watch Dogs ran extremely poorly, and didn’t really utilize SLI setups in an effective way. Additionally, it’s difficult to forget the complete mess that is Assassin’s Creed: Unity. As the PC gaming market continues to grow, it seems Ubisoft is finally starting to realize its potential and might just be investing the right resources to create a proper PC release. According to the publisher, The Division will not be a port, and feature a huge array of PC specific features:

  • Flexible user interface: move, scale and adjust the opacity of the HUD.
  • Intuitive controls: navigate easily through the interface, inventory panels and map designed specifically to be used with a mouse or a controller.
  • Full mouse & keyboard support: opt for the high precision mouse and keyboard experience and switch to a controller in the middle of any encounter without interruption.
  • Text chat: team up with more agents of The Division by using the in-game text chat.
  • Optimized graphic settings & customised GPU effects: adjust a vast variety of technology treats, from realistic lighting, shading, snow particles, local reflection, fog volumetric scattering, depth of field and much more…
  • Multi-GPU support: unleash the graphic power of the best computer set ups for jaw-dropping graphics powered by Massive Entertainment’s game engine Snowdrop.
  • Multi-screen support: play with up to three screens for the most immersive and stunning experience of The Division.
  • Multi-resolutions: opt for 1080p or 4k and automatically adapt the resolution to fit multi-screen configurations with FOV correction.
  • Unlocked framerate: let the most powerful computer reach the highest framerate.
  • HBAO+: enjoy the most realistic shadowing, lighting algorithm and ambient occlusion.

While, I’m still fairly cautious given Ubisoft’s chequered past, it’s fantastic to see HBAO+ implementation, multi-GPU support, an unlocked frame-rate, and native support for high resolution monitors. I do wonder if the resolution options extends to 21:9 panels without requiring a UI fix. Clearly, the PC version offers a huge boost in graphical fidelity compared to the current crop of consoles but there’s always suggestions about the visuals being downgraded. Despite this, the screens so far look pretty good, and it will be interesting to see the performance on various setups. Thankfully, I’ve already got my beta access code, and should be able to write-up a technical analysis once the beta officially begins.

Fallout 4: How to Fix FOV, Mouse, Aiming and 21:9 Issues!

Have you been enjoying Fallout 4 so far this week? The game has gotten off to (mostly) positive feedback from gamers and the wider gaming industry, but as with any game launch, there have been a few issues. From the game running too fast due to high FPS, mouse acceleration issues, poor FOV and more. Fortunately, fixes are coming thick and fast courtesy of some proactive redditors.

First things first, make sure that you download the latest Nvidia drivers (sorry AMD fans, nothing yet) which were released today.

Next up, the FOV is looked on Fallout 4, but a few simple tweaks can allow you to change it.

Open both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini
In the [Display] section of both files, add the following lines:
fDefaultWorldFOV=90
fDefault1stPersonFOV=90
90 is the default FOV of most FPS games, but you can change that to whatever makes you happy

What about that god awful mouse acceleration issue?

Open both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini
In the [Controls] section of both files, add this line:
bMouseAcceleration=0

Although why bMouseAccelration=0 would ever be set to anything higher than zero is beyond me… silly Bethesda. Then we’ve also got the fact that vertical mouse sensitivity is set to half the horizontal, and once again, I have no flipping idea why! Here’s how to fix it.

Open Fallout4.ini
In the [Controls] section, find fMouseHeadingXScale
On the next line, make fMouseHeadingYScale 2x the amount of fMouseHeadingXScale

If you’re having trouble with 21:9, mostly from not being able to select your resolution from within the game. Follow these simple steps

Add these values to ‘Fallout4Prefs.ini’ in your documents, my games etc AND to ‘Fallout4Prefs.ini’
bTopMostWindow=1
bMaximizeWindow=1
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1080
iSize W=2560

Now go forth and enjoy the wasteland once more!

This May Be the Start of GTA V Modding!

The start to Grand Theft Auto V modding may have just happened, as OpenIV lead developer “GooD-NTS” claims to have gained access to the game’s encrypted files.

Call it great timing or whatever you will, but this info came to light a few hours after the ENBSeries creator’s opinion. He had said “I was wrong. Rockstar did everything to prevent modding of GTA5, so at this moment [it’s] impossible to do anything via editing game files”.  Now it sure seems that the OpenIV team has been able to gain access to the encrypted game files, which would mean that modders can soon get to work on actual substantial mods, not just FOV adjustment.

With the level and quality as the previous mods Grand Theft Auto PC games have had it was hoped that history would continue. It seems now that it indeed will continue and should make that investment you spent on purchasing the game go all that much further if you end up spending more time playing some mods.

Time will tell if there will be any fruits to these new developments.  You can rest assured though that there is a small army that is dedicated to making these mods happen, even if it takes a lot of work.

Windows 10 Build 9897 ISO Images Creep Online

A few weeks ago, Microsoft released a newly compiled version of their upcoming Operating System – Windows 10. However, some tech savvy enthusiasts have cleaned it up a little and re-released it for illegal download.

Obviously we’re not going to link the download instructions here, as we said it’s illegal. But it’s interesting to point out that in this day and age, pirated copies for all kinds of software are generally expected to appear just mere hours or days after the original release. Recently we reported on Ubisoft’s gloat, claiming that all those who had pirated their latest Assassins Creed: Unity game, were met with the inability to change their FOV settings. Just a few hours later, well-known game cracking group Skidrow released an update to their version, allowing consumers to change their FOV as they like. Making their mark and claiming that they weren’t to be messed with.

Back to Windows – this download provides the user with the ability to skip all automatic updates, giving you the complete latest package in one download file.

What are your thoughts on Windows 10 so far? Since the release of Windows 7, we’ve seen many users claim that there is simply no need to upgrade their Operating System, saying that Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 offer no real advancements in software technology to entice them to take the plunge.

Sony Announces Specs for Project Morpheus VR Headset

With all the buzz regarding Virtual Reality gear, Oculus Rift seems to take the prime stag, having released a lot of information, plans and what consumers would expect from it once it will be released as a final product. However, there is still Sony’s Project Morpheus to take into account, but given that nothing but rumours were heard about it, focus was still on the Oculus Rift. That is, up until now.

Sony apparently has officially announced some of its VR headset specs, teasing fans with what should they expect when the manufacturer’s headset finally hits the market. The manufacturer apparently points to a 5″ panel, boasting a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, 60 frames per second and a field of view of up to 100°, though most likely it will be 90° as a start.

However, considering that the headset will most likely be used for the PlayStation 4, things don’t quite add up. The majority of games for the next-gen consoles are not even playable on full HD, yet alone at a frequency as high as 60 Hz. Not to mention the FOV, which most likely will require a lot of processing power in order to render.

Anton Mikhailov, an engineer from the Magic Lab in the PlayStation R&D could shed some light on this problem with the following statement:

“Frame rate and latency should have really high priority, much more so than […] now when you make a game, you can sort of say, ‘Oh, I’m going to choose to do a 30fps game because it’s more cinematic,’ or whatever, or, ‘I’m going to cram more graphics into it. In VR, it’s not really a choice. You have to go at least 60, preferably higher. It’s kind of a new bar. There are new rules you should obey as a developer. Frame rate and latency are really, really important. […] There is definitely a graphical limit that you can’t go lower than”.

From the following statement, it seems that game developers are required to focus more on frame rate and smooth gameplay rather than detail. The question is whether virtual reality at the expense of stunning detail would really be worth it.
