Dark Souls 3 Trailer Reminds Us Why We Love Fantasy Games

Fantasy games are some of my favourite games. Being faced with unknown powers and abilities lets you use your imagination as you conquer dragons, dungeons and even gods. The Dark soul games are one such series that want’s you to feel everything about fantasy, and the latest Dark Souls 3 trailer reminds us just why we love fantasy games.

Starting with a selection of lore, reminding you about how the world came to be you are quickly thrown into a series of clips outlying that this isn’t your everyday happy green fantasy world. In the world of Dark Souls, darkness and fire are what rule the world, something you’ll constantly be fighting to survive against.

With a whole different level of graphics and characters and creatures that look like something out of a fantasy film, how long will you last when you face the inevitable creatures that seek to end your life?

With hordes of skeletons, dragon-like creatures, skeleton knights and giant worms after you, it will take everything you have to survive as the trailer reminds you that you walk among the accursed.

Set for release on April 12th, fans everywhere will be looking to grab the next game in the Dark Souls trilogy and after that trailer, we can’t blame them.

Warcraft Movie Trailer Released

Starting as a strategy game, then moving into massively multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPGs) and now joining Blizzards other creations in the multiplayer online battle arena game, Heroes of the Storm, the World of warcraft lore has expanded and continues to grow with each release. After revealing a new expansion for World of Warcraft and also revealing that its subscribers for the online role-playing game have continued to drop to all time lows, new life is soon to come to the Warcraft universe in the form of a full cinematic movie.

It’s long been suggested that there would be a Warcraft movie, and the above trailer does nothing but wets our appetite for the release. Orcs, Gryphons and magic seem to rule the scene with large battles and diplomatic reasoning setting the scene for what could be the start of another truly epic fantasy series.

Revealed at Blizzcon, their own convention, Blizzard also revealed that Activision Blizzard is creating its own film studio to release not only movies but TV series based on their games.

From the fantasy world of Warcraft and the techno shooters of Call of Duty you could soon see your films and TV shows sharing the names and voices of your favourite gaming characters.

The Witcher Movie Release Date Released

Written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the Witcher series started as a collection of short stories and novels revolving around the world of Geralt of Rivia. Set in a fantasy world where monsters and magic are commonplace, Geralt is a Witcher, a monster hunter who gained magical abilities to help combat the creatures he hunts. After its success at a series of video games, creating several large open world RPG games following the character, it would now seem that his world will come to the big screen in the near future.

The Witcher movie has been picked up by none other than the Sean Daniel Company (SOC), a company well known for their work on “The Mummy” franchise. As if that wasn’t enough to excite you about the movie, the film is planned to just introduce us to the world which will soon become a series and is being written by Thania St John, known for working on shows such as “Grimm” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”.

With an international release planned for 2017 it could soon be gracing both our PC and big screens.

Are you a fan of the Witcher series? Do you like the idea of a fantasy series with such a deep background of knowledge and lore created ready for use within the movie or would you prefer if the show introduced you to some new lore?

Siege of Dragonspear Announced for Baldur’s Gate!

There is a new expansion for the original Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition by the name of Siege of Dragonspear, which has left avid fans of the game waiting in anticipation. Now I am a fan of computer games and keep abreast, read that how you want, of different genres of which developer’s release, but this game has never really caught my eye and researching this is new to me.

The newly announced edition which according to the site which is launched by Beamdog, will be an expansion of the original game that covers the events immediately following the conclusion of the first Baldur’s Gate This means that Dragonspear will follow the player character as they investigate the Shining Lady, who is a mysterious warrior assailing the Sword Coast with an army under her private command.

The full list of new features according to the official website of Beamdog is as follows,

  • Expand Your Story: Explore new areas, fight new monsters, and win new rewards in the Siege of Dragonspear expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. Continue the adventure by exporting your game to Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
  • The Crusade Rises: A sharp and subtle adventure that pits you against an enigmatic new foe
  • Explore the Sword Coast: Venture through vibrant new hand-painted areas in the classic style of the original Baldur’s Gate
  • Gather You’re Party: The original cast returns to kick butt for goodness – along with Neera, Rasaad, Dorn, and four new additions!
  • To Infinity and Beyond: Updated UI and improved Infinity Engine features
  • Extra Class: New items, quests, and a new class: the spirit-calling shaman!
  • Venture Forth With A Friend: Functional, extensively tested cross-platform multiplayer on all supported platforms
  • Story Mode: A difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens

The expansion will be developed on the Infinity Engine and will include nearly 25 hours of new content with the platforms being PC, Mac, Linux, IOS and Android. I must admit, I do like and always have liked the notion of expansions for games, instead of quickly discarding the series; it leaves the opportunity for fans to update themselves with the franchise and to carry on playing.

Valve VR Demo Looks Similar to Myst, Only Extremely Detailed

Valve’s virtual reality setup only allowed you to walk in areas the size of small rooms. This is really an issue today, since a lot of titles, especially fantasy ones, come in vast environments full of rich graphics.

The solution seems to come from Cloudhead Games’ The Gallery: Six Elements, which is all about interaction. The demo can be experienced using the HTC Vive’s hand controllers in order to grip all sort of objects, having the objective to fix a creaky machine. However, there is also danger in this quest, and it comes under the shape of a giant tree monster.

“The Gallery: The Six Elements is a firstperson fantasy/exploration game built from the ground up for virtual reality, using the Unity engine; incorporating various VR and interaction hardware devices. This title will present a rich narrative experience fuelled by intuitive physical interaction puzzles, nestled within a deeply immersive environment. Drawing from our inspirations of 80′s adventure movies and classic games such as Monkey Island and Myst, the player must journey through foreign and fantastical worlds, collecting elemental powers and items that will aid them in discovering the mystery of the Machine.”

It is said that there are a few different environments in the demo as well, giving the user a lot of places to explore aside from things to collect. Though The Gallery is not yet available, it is said that it will be released along with Valve and HTC’s system at the end of this year.

If You Die in Upsilon Circuit, You Can Never Play Again!

Upsilon Circuit might seem like your usual fantasy RPG game, but what you do not know about it is that if you die in it… you can never play again! The game is said to have a sort of ‘perma-permadeath’ losing condition, meaning that players require to be extremely careful if they still want to play the game in the future.

The title is said to spawn players onto a single server and divides them into two teams of four, meaning that only eight players will be able to play the game at any given time. The gameplay is likely to be extremely intense, leading to swift brutal ends because every moment can be your last.

“Each Contestant explores the overworld and generated dungeons in search of the Dream Tech Crystals. They fight monsters, avoid traps, and compete with the opposing team.”
“When the Contestant fights monsters or gets treasure, the EXP and other rewards go to the Audience. EXP is used collectively by the Audience to level up the Contestant’s Skill Tree. Simply put, the Audience is part dungeon master, part strategist, and part judge & jury.”

Upsilon Circuit is likely to bring one of the most complicated and intense fantasy RPGs on the market. The title is still in development, but you can see some footage of the gameplay below.

World of Warcraft Movie Delayed To 2016

Previous news set the World of Warcraft movie launch date on the 18th of December 2015. However, we learned that it has been delayed to 2016, according to a tweet from the official World of Warcraft Twitter account.

Based on the information given, it seems that the movie will be moving from its 18th of December 2015 release date to an 11th of March 2016 release date. It is unclear as to why there might be a delay since no explanation was given, but since games get frequent delays, why not movies based on games get delays as well eh? Blizzard’s involvement and the company’s attention to detail and their reputation for delaying games, this does not come as a complete shock, but hopefully what this means is that we can look forward to an even greater movie and perhaps prove that movies adapted from video games don’t have to be horrible.

During BlizzCon 2013, additional details of the movie was shared with attendees. The movie will take us back to the original Warcraft game where it will be more about Orcs versus Humans as opposed to some of Warcraft’s later stories, like the one involving Arthas and the Lich King. The movie is expected to begin filming next year and according to the rumors, Colin Farrell and Paula Patton could be part of the cast.

New Game Of Thrones Game Rumored To Be Released By Telltale Games

Rumor has it that a Game of Thrones game from Telltale Games is in development. In an article posted by Bit-Tech, multiple sources from IGN close to the matter confirmed that work on the IP is under way.

No information which links the game to George R.R. Martin’s books or the HBO TV adaptation of the books has been given though. Telltale Games itself has declined to comment officially, adding that these sorts of rumours about what it is working on crop up from time to time.

A Game of Thrones game has already been released as an RPG title in May 2012 from Cyanide. The game received poor reviews and many considered the title to be rushed and suffering from a lack of polish. Telltale Games’ most recent release is The Wolf Among us, based on the successful graphic novel series Fables. It is also working on season two of the popular Walking Dead series.

HBO’s book adaptation of the Game of Thrones books has catapulted the popular fantasy series of books into the mainstream and has become a huge success and fans expect the fourth series to begin in early 2014.
