CDPR Releases New Witcher 3: Blood and Wine Screenshots

There’s no shortage of gamers who agree that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the absolute best game that came out in 2015, and I definitely agree with them. The game’s depth, graphics, incredible music and unique atmosphere allowed it to stand out among its peers and crush its competition by earning hundreds of Game of the Year awards from different publications. The game has received a fresh and sizeable expansion pack named Hearts of Stone on October 13, 2015, and it is now ready to receive its second and last expansion titled Blood and Wine. From what we’ve seen so far, this expansion is the most colorful and the most impressive graphics-wise, and according to Senior Social Media and Community Coordinator, Marcin Momot, it will also include a very gripping story.

“I can already tell you Blood and Wine is a fascinating story, with every sort of twist and turn you’d expect from our writers. Toussaint, the new realm we’re creating for the expansion, is unlike anything you’ve seen in Wild Hunt – carefree and colorful, but your gut never stops telling you that there’s some real dark stuff happening underneath all that. We’ll be revealing more information in May, however, to sweeten the wait, here are some fresh screenshots from the expansion.”

Soon enough in May, we’re going to receive more information on Blood and Wine, but until then, we can just have a look at these wonderful new screenshots released by CDPR.

Massive Free Expansion Hits Black Desert Online

The visually stunning Korean MMO that is Black Desert Online just keeps on getting better and better. Aside from the fact that it already has one of the most in-depth and visual impressive character creation systems we’ve ever seen, as well as a rich world and booming in-game economy, the developers have now released the first of many expansions for the BDO universe.

The free “Mediah” update clocks in at a modest 2GB, and while that doesn’t sound like a lot, it adds more than a thousand new quests to the world! And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll find massive boss fights, such as the one against Kzarka, with hundreds of players capable of joining that single fight alone. There’s a new 40v40 PvP instance on Crimson Battlefield, and if that wasn’t enough, which it is, you’ll also find new weapons, armour, enchanted equipment and more for higher level players.

 • + World size increased by 30%
 • + Over 1,000 new quests
 • + Kzarka – An enormous boss that can take on hundreds of players at a time
 • + New guild missions, including special bosses that drop formidable weapons
 • + Crimson Battlefield – Instanced 40v40 skirmishes that players can queue for in groups of five or solo
 • + New weapons and more powerful armor set
 • + Craftable Alchemy Stones allow players to apply Attack, Defense, or Life bonuses to their equipment

The games developers, Pearl Abyss, aren’t stopping here either, teasing that new expansions will be coming thick and fast. Keep an eye on the horizon for ocean-based adventuring, allowing exploration above and below the waves, trading ships and even naval warfare. In short, Black Desert Online is already one of the most interesting MMOs out there and it just keeps on getting better in more ways than one.

“Daum Games today announced that Black Desert Online will be expanded with the huge Mediah region, tons of new quests, fierce bosses, and more as early as tomorrow, March 30. With the Mediah Expansion, players can rise to new levels of power and achieve greatness like never before.” – BDO

Dying Light Season Pass And Expansion Get Price Increase

Dying Light sees players running through a zombie filled world using both their skills, weapons and parkour movement to fight and outrun their enemies. That is until night time when the creatures suddenly empower and hunt the player, quickly turning the tide on their attackers. The developers for the game at Techland have recently announced that their latest expansion may have been a little more than they expected, as a result, they will be raising the price to match the expanded size and features of the expansion this December.

The reason for the price increase, from £9.99 to £15.99, was given as follows:

“Over the past weeks Dying Light: The Following has almost reached its final stage: main quests, side quests, new skills, and driving challenges are ready. Looking at it, it’s clear how big the expansion pack has grown – it would be a stand-alone title, but since it would mean a launch delay, we decided against it”

With the expansion being part of the season pass, that will also receive a price increase from £15.99 to £23.99. The price changes won’t come into effect until December 8th so you still have a chance to grab the game at a discounted price.

Dying Light is currently on sale till December 1st on Steam for 66% off (£39.99 to £13.59).

SilverStone Releases PTS01 USB 3.0 Enclosure for NUCs

Small form factor PCs such as the Intel NUC systems are great and they provide an impressive amount of power in a very compact shape. They do however have one issue most of the times and that is when it comes to storage. Most of the NUCs only support mSATA drives which will increase the costs per GB over 2.5-inch sized drives as well as generally limit the available storage options. SilverStone now released a new drive enclosure that will fix that issue by adding almost any 2.5-inch drive to such a system via a USB 3.0 connection.

Now USB 3 drive enclosures aren’t anything new, but SilverStone’s new PTS01 drive enclosure also matches the layout and compatibility of the NUCs or SilverStone Petit Series chassis. The PTS01 is built with aluminium and steel that both helps with the heat dissipation and keep the drive operating at an optimal efficiency. The enclosure has room for one 2.5-inch SSD or HDD with a height up to 9mm and it connects through a micro USB 3.0 type B cable.

The smart design and compatibility also mean that you don’t have to find a new way to place everything just because you expand with a SilverStone PTS01 enclosure. Being compatible with the NUC mounting options, you can simply put it between the NUC and your mounting system such as the backside of your monitor and forget all about the addition except for the increased storage abilities.

The recommended end-user price for SilverStone’s PTS01 is set to $29.20 USD plus tax and it will be available on December 2nd.

PQI Announces iConnect External Storage for iPhone And iPad

Apple’s entire product range is sorely lacking in internal storage and incurs a significant price increase to purchase the 64GB and 128GB variants. However, PQI has engineered a rather interesting solution which massively increases either your iPhone or iPad’s storage without resorting to buying a new device. The iConnect attaches via Apple’s proprietary Lightning port and allows you to store photos, videos, music, contacts and other user-data. This could be a vital purchase on the 6s due to 4k video recording and its extremely large file sizes.

The iConnect comes in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models which provides more than enough storage for most people. Furthermore, the external storage is capable of 30 MB/s write speeds and maximum read of 15 MB/s. Also, the iConnect opts for USB 3.0 functionality to achieve fast transfer speeds when backing up your data to a PC or Mac. According to the press material, the iConnect will be sold in gold, silver and metallic gray while featuring a two-year-warranty. Unfortunately, there’s no release date for Europe, but it’s already for sale in the USA via Newegg.

In terms of pricing, the MSRP is $59.99 for 16GB, $71.99 for 32GB, $107.99 for 64GB and $179.99 for 128GB. Compared to the hassle of selling your handset, and acquiring one of Apple’s upgraded storage models, the price is quite reasonable. Stay tuned for an in-depth review in the near future.

World of Warcraft Subscribers Descend To 9 Year Low

Is it me or has World of Warcraft been around forever and a day? It certainly feels that way considering the game was released way back in 2004, since then it has spawned expansions to the excitement of fans, but it seems subscription numbers are not quite what they used to be.

According to the press release from Activision, World of Warcraft has 5.6 million subscribers to of the end of the second business quarter which for Activision is 30th June 2015.

Blizzard president Mike Morhaime stated the Warlords of Draenor expansion brought more returning players to the game than any previously. He also confirmed plans for the company to increases the rate of content to help attract new players while also retaining existing fans.

For a game which is nearly 11 years old, I do think it is an achievement to be able to attract 5.6 million subscribers, considering how current market trends will become obsolete in a matter of months. For me, this is the unfortunate by-product of listing your company to investors, yes it brings in much-needed revenue, but it does not take long for the market to react to any slight negative data which would impact on profits.

If you’re a regular reader to my articles for eTeknix then you know I like a tangent, and here it is, take a look at the WWE, Hulk Hogan was erased for two reasons, the obvious “open your mouth before engaging brain” with the second reason being that WWE share price lost $50 million dollars as the market reacted to the news. Investors call the shots and back successful trends and track record projects, any negative press effects company value. Investors wonder why they have not attracted more players; try 11 years with the same concept being rehashed within expansions. This is why you also have Fifa 2679 and Call of Duty Black Ops 12, the balance sheet conveys a track record of revenue to consumers.

Siege of Dragonspear Announced for Baldur’s Gate!

There is a new expansion for the original Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition by the name of Siege of Dragonspear, which has left avid fans of the game waiting in anticipation. Now I am a fan of computer games and keep abreast, read that how you want, of different genres of which developer’s release, but this game has never really caught my eye and researching this is new to me.

The newly announced edition which according to the site which is launched by Beamdog, will be an expansion of the original game that covers the events immediately following the conclusion of the first Baldur’s Gate This means that Dragonspear will follow the player character as they investigate the Shining Lady, who is a mysterious warrior assailing the Sword Coast with an army under her private command.

The full list of new features according to the official website of Beamdog is as follows,

 • Expand Your Story: Explore new areas, fight new monsters, and win new rewards in the Siege of Dragonspear expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. Continue the adventure by exporting your game to Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
 • The Crusade Rises: A sharp and subtle adventure that pits you against an enigmatic new foe
 • Explore the Sword Coast: Venture through vibrant new hand-painted areas in the classic style of the original Baldur’s Gate
 • Gather You’re Party: The original cast returns to kick butt for goodness – along with Neera, Rasaad, Dorn, and four new additions!
 • To Infinity and Beyond: Updated UI and improved Infinity Engine features
 • Extra Class: New items, quests, and a new class: the spirit-calling shaman!
 • Venture Forth With A Friend: Functional, extensively tested cross-platform multiplayer on all supported platforms
 • Story Mode: A difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens

The expansion will be developed on the Infinity Engine and will include nearly 25 hours of new content with the platforms being PC, Mac, Linux, IOS and Android. I must admit, I do like and always have liked the notion of expansions for games, instead of quickly discarding the series; it leaves the opportunity for fans to update themselves with the franchise and to carry on playing.

The Witcher 3 Expansions “Almost Size” of The Witcher 2

CD Projekt RED, creators of The Witcher 3, have announced the paid DLC expansions will be set on a mammoth scale and similar in size to the game’s predecessor. In an interview with Gamereactor, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the director of The Witcher 3 said,

“The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you’ve got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more. They will be quite long. The first expansion will be around 10 hours and the second expansion will be around 20 hours… and I think it’s possible that they will be bigger, because it’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right now. And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool, it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy.”

It’s always refreshing to see a developer offer value-for-money expansions instead of reselling on-disk content or overpriced DLC. CD Projekt RED’s ethos revolves around consumer confidence which is emphasized by their free DLC programme since The Witcher 3’s launch. Sadly, the modern gaming industry with cosmetic DLC, season passes and microtransactions have made consumers quite wary of downloadable content. Hopefully, more studios will adopt this consumer-first ideology and ensure the term DLC equates to a lengthy and fulfilling experience.

Tomaszkiewicz also answered a number of other questions regarding future updates and the process behind the game’s development. Currently, the first pack entitled, “Hearts of Stone” is planned for released this Autumn with the next expansion, “Blood and Wine” coming in early 2016.

Did The Witcher 3 live up to your expectations?

Sega and Relic Want to Revive the Company of Heroes 2 With a New Expansion

It’s been a long time since I heard about any news regarding the Company of Heroes title. The hype around it suddenly died soon after it got released, though the expansions that came after it did try to keep it going. The latest one, Adrenaline Assault, also shifted the focus on the eastern World War II front, taking the focus off the Allied forces and placing the Red Army in the spotlight.

This time around, the focus will move to the Brits and their forces. The upcoming expansion will be called Company of Heroes 2: The British Forces and will introduce fifteen new unites and six commanders, along with eight new multiplayer maps. It will also be a standalone multiplayer expansion, which means you don’t need to have Company of Heroes 2 in order to play it.

In addition to the expansion, Relic and Sega is planning a big update for all Company of Heroes 2 titles too. The latter will feature an improved balance between all factions, improved animations and visual improvements to the majority of units. It’s nice to see they are still supporting the Company of Heroes 2 title, but will this move to attract more players actually work this time?

The expansion and update are said to arrive on the 3rd of September, having the expansion cost £9.99. Sega said it will also offer a 20% discount to players who already own any Company of Heroes title, but only for pre-order purchases.

Synology Releases Rackmounted NAS Scalable up to 1.4PB

If you can’t get enough storage space then Synology might have a good answer for you with their latest NAS and expansion units that together provide the biggest NAS that the company has produced so far.

The new RackStation RS18016xs+ and expansion unit RX1216sas can provide you with up to 1440 TB of raw storage using 8TB drives. That is a lot of storage right there at your disposal, but all that storage also has to be fast or it wouldn’t be of any use to anyone. The unit is capable of a performance over 3900MB/s throughput and 348K sequential IOPS in an RAID5 setup with VLAN.

The RS18016xs+ has four gigabit LAN ports as standard, but you can expand that with more gigabit or 10Gbit ports thanks to the two PCI 3.0 x8 expansion slots. You also get several USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and SAS ports.

It comes equipped with 8GB ECC RAM and is upgradable up to 32GB ECC RAM. The processor is an Intel Xeon E3 quad-core with 3.3GHz. The Both the NAS and the extension units have 12 ports for SATA or SAS drives.

Redundant power supplies and an amplitude of business features will make sure that these units perform the task they should and consistently. Synology’s DSM system also offers backup and fail-over solutions that should meet any companies needs.

Neither the NAS nor the expansion unit are cheap when you look at the price, but I honestly think it’s a fair price all things considered. The RS18016xs+ was a recommended price of £4398.00 including VAT or €4765.00 before tax and the RX1216sas will set you back £1992.00 including VAT or €2160.00 before tax.

OWC Announced Accelsior S PCIe Card for 2.5-Inch Drives

Other World Computing, or OWC for short, has specialized itself in SSD and memory upgrades of both Apple and PC devices over the last 25-years and as such their latest product doesn’t come as a big surprise. The new Accelsior S PCIe card brings 6GB/s speeds to any system with a PCIe slot.

It isn’t a normal SATA controller, but you are rather meant to mount the drive directly onto the expansion card. This has ups and downs as it doesn’t require you to have a free drive slot but in return mostly is suited for SSDs that have a lighter weight and no vibrations.

“The Accelsior S provides legacy Mac Pro, PC tower, and Thunderbolt interface expansion chassis users with storage expansion and a speed bump,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “This is a fantastic upgrade for the legacy Mac Pro, which is speed limited by its native SATA 3Gb/s architecture. The Accelsior S is fully equipped to support the flexibility and full speed of a cutting edge 6Gb/s OWC SSD.”

In return, you get another high-speed SATA 6Gb/s port for your system that might lack this natively. Many people, and especially the last generation intel users, are limited to two SATA3 ports and for those this could be a great way of adding a third high-speed drive to the system.

No extra drivers are needed and the drive attached to the card can also be used as the boot drive in your system.

It isn’t the cheapest add-on on the market and will set you back $57.75. You do on the other hand get a great products that is backed by a three-year warranty and US-based 24/7 technical support.

Guild Wars 2 Beta Testing New Expansion

Many games have DLC and expansions. Some of these are made even before the game has been released and they are just left to be unlocked after a certain time. Guild Wars 2, on the other hand, has been around for nearly 3 years now and is yet to see any expansions. However, on the 26th of May, closed beta testing of “Heart of Thorns” begins.

Guild Wars 2 has seen updates that add new areas and tweak gameplay, but it has yet to see a true expansion. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns isn’t going to up the level cap of 80 for your characters, but instead introducing a Mastery System. This offers master abilities such as hang-gliding and new collections that can earn legendary weapons.

The new adventure will take place in the Maguuma Jungle, it will include a new storyline and events along with new challenging boss battles. To aid you in the quest to conquer the jungle, there is a new profession being added with the expansion. The Revenant, which is heavily armoured and equipped to channel legendary powers of the Mists.

If this doesn’t tempt you into starting a new character, there are specialisations for your already matured character which allows you to unlock weapons that were previously unavailable, as well as new skills, traits and unique mechanics which will give your characters profession a new feel.

Another addition that Heart of Thorns brings, is that of a new game mode. Called Stronghold, in this PvP game mode offers a new way to play, you gather supplies and battle for control of heroes in an attempt to defeat the guild lord.

There are additions that allow you and fellow guild members to build a guild hall in the jungle of Maguuma. A new WvW map called Borderland.

To get in on the beta testing action there are a few hoops you have to jump through, but I’m sure there will be plenty of streamers out there ready to show off the new content. The beta is to specifically test the stability of the new PvE event structure along with using the new Revenant profession.

Testing is scheduled as follows:
– 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) to 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7)
– 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7)
– 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) to 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7)
So look out at those times for the live streams, or if you are one of the lucky ones that got to beta test, make sure you are free!

Fans Can Start Playing Fast & Furious Forza Expansion for Free Right Now

The standalone Fast & Furious expansion for Forza Horizon 2 is out and available for free on Xbox One and Xbox 360, but if you want to play it without paying, you should hurry and download it now!

Similar to the Horizon 2 title, the Fast & Furious expansion is an open-world racing game. It is said that Tej Parker will task you with tracking down the rides required for the team’s next big mission and make you drive around the south of France.

The expansion will put you behind the wheel of 11 classic cars from the series, including a ’98 Supra, ’70 Road Runner and ’70 Cuda from the Fast & Furious 7 movie.

The title of the game, Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, seems to accurately describe what users are to expect from it. The Verge apparently tested it and confirm that the expansion gives a clear demo of the Horizon 2 game while promoting the Fast & Furious 7 movie.

Those of you who want to take the expansion out for a spin should keep in mind that the free price tag will not last forever. The Fast & Furious expansion is said to be free until the 10th of April, after which it will be sold for $10.

Job Posting Confirms Apple Pay International Expansion

A new job posting discovered by iClarified suggests that Apple is hard at work on expanding Apple Pay across Europe, the Middle East, India, and Africa. Apple Pay is currently only available in the United States, with Apple saying that they are “working hard” to bring it to more countries.

The job posting details that there is now a team in London working on bringing the NFC service to more countries.

“Apple Pay is a new and exciting area in Apple that is set to expand across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa. Apple Pay will change the way consumers pay with breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features built right into their iPhone 6 or Apple Watch to pay in an easy, secure, and private way. The new London-based Apple Pay team will work to drive the roll-out of this technology across EMEIA by working with a variety of internal and external partners, including teams in the US where the product will first launch and the EMEIA organisation, as well as Issuers, payment networks and merchants across Europe.”

The service was introduced in the US to great acclaim, with users finding the system easy to use, efficient and secure. Oddly, it also brought praise from users and supporters of Google’s Android as Apple’s efforts to get the service accepted by banks and merchants has led to the wider use of NFC-compatibale readers that are of course compatible with any type of NFC payment system, including Google Wallet.

Goat Simulator’s MMO Expansion Announced

Freaky, fun, fantastic and f’in crazy are usually the words I use to describe Coffee Stain Studio’s Goat Simulator to my friends when asked. Just when you thought that longevity of the game wasn’t quite there, today they’ve announced that later this month we’ll be seeing a free expansion named Goat MMO Simulator.

This expansion is said to dwell around “the faction warfare between goats and sheep” seeing you, the main hero, take the form of one of the following classes:

 • Warrior
 • Rogue
 • Magician
 • Hunter
 • Microwave

Said to include ‘dozens’ of quests and a level cap of 101 starting on November 20, it’s a ‘free DLC’ for those who already own the game on PC. In addition to this, we’ve told that Goat MMO Simulator will be available on Mac and Linux including full controller support.

Coming November 20, I’m going to forget that World of Warcraft is a thing – Please excuse me while I channel my inner microwave and start my real life preparations.. Time to call in sick to work!

Goat Simulator was released on STEAM earlier this year to a massive reception due to its crazy physics and outlandish humor, akin to somewhat of a “420 MLG Montage“, Goat Simulator is here to stay. If PC isn’t quite your thing, Goat Simulator has been released on iOS and Android with an Xbox One port on the way – although we haven’t heard if the MMO version is coming to these platforms (yet).

Gearbox Confirms Two More and Final DLCs for Borderlands 2

Gearbox and 2K Games released Borderlands 2 back in 2012, and to extend its life-cycle, it has been greeted with a continuous flood of DLCs from its early days up until now. However, its time is already near the end, since the developer is announcing the last two DLCs before support for the title is dropped.

The next DLC for Borderlands 2 is called Mad Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre, which is stated to unite two of the world’s biggest families having the player given a role of a ‘match maker’. The gameplay will consist of, you guessed it, Moxxi giving you objectives to fetch her ingredients for love potions.

Due to it being a Headhunter Pack, it would most probably have a final boss mission which will unlock unique heads for each of the Vault Hunters you complete it with. It is stated that Moxxi’s adventures will not be the last title’s DLC, having one more DLC released later on. The last DLC is said to be another Head Hunter pack named Sir Hammerlock and the Son of Crawmerax which will be released somewhere in April.

As for Moxxi and the Wedding Day Massacre DLC, it is stated to be released just in time for Valentine’s Day, on the 11th of February, having a price tag of $2.99 or £2.99, depending on the region of purchase.

Plants vs. Zombie’s Garden Warfare Expansion To Be Released In February

Electronic Arts and Popcap have announced the release date for Garden Warfare, the first expansion for the Plants Vs. Zombies franchise. The Xbox One and Xbox 360 version have their date set on February 18th in North America while Europe will have it on February 21st. The PC version date has not yet been announced, but rest assure as it will be released, however at a later date.

The Frostbite powered third person shooter themed around the Plants Vs. Zombies franchise is going to be offered at the budget price of $39.99 (US) / €39.99 (EU)/ &pound39.99 (UK) on the Xbox One and $29.99 / €29.99 / £29.99 on the Xbox 360. For the extra $10 / €10 / £10 Xbox One players will get two additional modes including a split screen local co-op and boss mode in which players can use Kinect or a Microsoft SmartGlass compatible device to support their teammates using a Battlefield 4 like commander mode.

A lot of changes have been made in Garden Warfare, taking a slightly different approach from the traditional Plants Vs. Zombies games, but it just might be fun enough to become pretty popular. From the limited amount we have seen of the game, it does seem to look like a lot of fun.

Diablo III: Reaper Of Souls – New Game Modes Detailed

We see many new features and interesting things happening in Diablo III with their expansion Reaper of souls. Where you will battle it out at the end of Act Five with Malthael, the Angel of Death. Along with the addition of Act Five, we will see two new game modes.

 • Adventure Mode will allow players to go anywhere, and slay anything. The player should get to play when and where they want to play, so all of the waypoints in all of the acts have been unlocked. This will allow players to jump to any part of the game at any time.
 • Campaign Mode gives players the opportunity to focus more on the story. Players will get to play all of the quests, view all of the cut-scenes and in-game movies. This won’t be much different than current game play.

Bounties have also been added, if you want more of a guided approach while playing the game, but you don’t want to play the campaign, you will be able to play adventure mode. While in adventure mode, you will get bounties, which are random quests. In each game the player will be granted 25 bounties, 5 in each act. There will be a number of bounties including killing one of the 15 different bosses, to complete an event, kill a unique monster, even clearing a dungeon. When completing a bounty players will be granted experience, rift keystones as well as cool loot.

Nephalem Rifts, a completely randomized dungeon that can be up to 10 levels deep. In order to get into a rift you will need a rift keystone. While in a Nephalem Rift the game will defy all of the rules, mixing up monsters of different types, monster densities as well as layouts. Players will get some awesome buffs, the bosses will be challenging, mixed with randomness to bring back the awesomeness of Diablo.

World Of Warcraft Expansion: Warlords Of Draenor

Blizzard Entertainment is fairly good about staying tight-lipped about their products until they have been released, but today we got word that Blizzard has filed for a trademark in Australia and New Zealand, it is unknown if they have filed for the trademark in the US yet. According to Intellectual Property Australia, Blizzard Entertainment has filed for a trademark for the words “Warlords of Draenor”. Which is likely to be the name of the next World of Warcraft expansion. We likely wont know more about this until late next week.

We haven’t heard much out of Blizzard about any new projects that they might have coming out in the future, though next Friday we have BlizzCon. Which I am sure that they will have much tell us about, perhaps even unveiling some of their plans for the future. The last BlizzCon was in 2011, holding off in 2012 in order to work hard on some of their projects. This new Trademark may be for any number of things, though it is likely to be for a new World of Warcraft expansion. But it could be for any number of things, including a fourth instalment of Warcraft, or even a expansion for Warcraft 3, though that is highly unlikely.

In the lore of Warcraft, Draenor was believed to be lost, torn from Outlands. The Draenei race, which was featured with the release of the Burning Crusade expansion originally were from Draenor.

Blizzard loves to give us rum ors to follow, and get our minds wandering, this could easily be Blizzard giving us a good tease, though the next expansion is due to be out soon. We can only hope that it turns out to be something interesting.

Icy Dock FatCage MB155SP-B SATA Backplane Module Review

Introduction

When it comes to drive enclosures, both of the internal and external flavour, there is, generally speaking, one name that always pops to mind and this is Icy Dock. For many years now they have been creating enclosures, mounts and backplanes in a whole heap of varieties – some of which we’d never have thought were useful. The backplane that I’ll be looking at today is just one example of a product that I’d look through their catalogue, see and skip past as it doesn’t immediately jump out to me as a product that needs much attention.

For the vast majority of home users, having a server at home is not something that would really shout out as being needed and on the whole, they are not, but with media streaming and file sharing become more common, some users are making the move to build their own. Naturally the obvious path, rather than buying one, is to build a system from common desktop components, using a mid tower chassis to house everything, but many chassis only offer internal drive bays and there can be few at that. For those that are keen on keeping things backed up or who want easy access to their drives without having to open the case, having a backplane is a simple solution that gives flexibility of access whilst adding additional 3.5″ space.

The MS155SP-B that we’re looking at today is a simple, straight to the point backplane. By simply mounting into the optical drive area, this backplane gives five additional drive bays that can be individually removed from the system in a hot-swap manner with ease.

Anyone that has owned an Icy Dock product of this type or have read my past reviews on some of their products will know that they like to keep the packaging and extras down to a minimum, after all there’s no need for a heap of paperwork, leaflets and other non-vital parts that typically ends up staying in the box.
