RUST Assigns Characters Their Gender By Your SteamID

Rust is a popular open world survival game, with you foraging and hunting in order to survive and build a shelter to survive in a barren wilderness amongst friends and foes. With over 100,000 positive reviews and only around 22 thousand negative reviews, the game can be considered a success but with its latest update assigning character gender by random chance, not everyone is happy.

Listed amongst a slew of updates, one of the latest features introduced into the game is the inclusion of female models, meaning you may be hunted down by male or female characters alike. How do you pick the new option? You don’t.

Listing it as a “sore subject for a lot of people”, the studio behind RUST has included female characters and figured out a way to make it fair if someone is a male or female character. In order to figure this out, they use a very simple piece of information, your SteamID. That’s all there is to it, your SteamID helps the game figure out if your character should be male or female, no judgement or choice in the matter, your name is all that matters to the game.

While some may not be happy with the choice the change in models does nothing to the game directly, so there is no unfair bonus or not, it’s purely the look of your character that changes and with more changes coming it will no doubt be modeled and changed again and again while the game is being developed.

Vin Diesel Announces Riddick Sequel Plans

Bounty Hunters, Unlikely Heroes, Escaping from Jails and Spaceships. The Riddick series has brought all of this and more to the screen, with actors such as Karl Urban and Dame Judi Dench starring in the film’s that at times seem to have been created by Vin Diesels determination to see the Riddick Universe expand. Riddick is an unlikely hero with a dark past, wanted around the universe for crimes and escaping prisons, one of which you can even play in Escape From Butchers Bay before having to escape yet again in the games sequel Assault on Dark Athena, both made by Tigon Studios, founded by (you guessed it) Vin Diesel himself. With his latest film, the Last Witch Hunter, being based on his D&D character and his love for the game, what’s next for Vin Diesel? The answer came in an Instagram post from the man himself.

In the pictures description, Vin Diesel states that “last night Our company had a party to launch Our TV division”. He then goes on to explain how Merc City, a new series, will follow the mercs and bounty hunters in the Riddick universe. He then ends the post by stating that next month “DT begins writing the next Chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… FURIA”, DT standing for David Twohy, a screenwriter who has worked on every single Riddick film since Pitch Black started it all off.

Are you excited to see more from Riddick? Did you enjoy the Riddick games and do you want to see another one released for the new film or TV series?

Overwatch Reveals Three New Characters

Overwatch has been a keenly anticipated game that was recently released in closed beta for PC. With a wide variety of characters available at the moment and more being announced all the time, it’s not hard to see how the multiplayer arena game could soon see you staring at your screen for hours.

First up in the new characters is titled Mei and seems in part inspired by Mr Freeze. With a fluffy coat and large framed glasses, Mei’s unique attribute is that she is (surprise surprise) an ice type attacker, with her primary allowing you to slow and eventually freeze enemies before piercing them with her secondary attack. With the ability to summon ice walls to protect her allies and grant them access to hard to reach places, while her ultimate, Blizzard, will not only freeze but decimate an area of enemies; given her three seconds of invincibility, she can become a quite deadly defender.

Next up is D.vva, a meka pilot with fusion cannons that can be continuously fired at the cost of a slower movement speed. If that wasn’t bad enough her boosters grant her limited flight that can be used to fly around and bring destruction to anyone she sees fit. Built as a tank with a protecting wall against incoming projectiles her ultimate is a last resort, granting her access to the self-destruct matrix on her mech, after leaving it and repositioning just in time to call down her next suit.

Finally we have Genji, the cyber ninja. Left for dead by his brother Hanzo, overwatch brought the ninja into the fold after patching up with cybernetics. With the ability to throw shurikens in a steady line or a sprayed out collection, coupled with his ability to double jump and scale walls, you could soon see a white ninja sweeping down on your team with devastating effects. The high mobility continues with his dash which also inflicts bleeding damage, making his approach all that more terrifying while his reflect ability will protect his approach. While his ultimate will enchant his sword, bringing out both mystic power and cyber technology to a deadly cumulation.

Re Imagining Blink 182 Music Video “What’s My Age Again?” In GTA

All I can say is I am glad that for once, there is censorship within this video, otherwise the editor of eTeknix would have had my, well you know (He’s not wrong – Pete). If you are having a particularly bad day or you’re in need or a tech laugh, then some genius, yes I know that word has fallen into disrepute over the years but bear with me, has let’s say re-imagined late 90s hit “What’s my age again?” by US band Blink 182 in Grand Theft Auto. Perhaps this is the same chorus little Johnny/Jenny should sing before their mum or dad attempts to purchase an 18+ certificate game for them, oh the irony.

Below are two videos, the original Blink 182 version and also the GTA inspired music video, as you can see, ha ha and ha. This project was created by an individual who goes by the Youtube moniker “icanteven”. If you have seen the original video you might have noted that the band members are well, running in the buff, this has therefore been incorporated using Rockstar Video Editor and also character mods, censored ones at that mind you.

I cannot say this project is a faithful scene by scene recreation of the original, It might be, I just don’t recall Blink 182 being blasted and then run over with a tank. It may have been the anything goes 90s, but I think I would remember that.

Japanese Company Wants to Build a Stunning 3D Holographic Display

We’ve been talking about holograms like something out of sci-fi movies, but with today’s technology, it really is possible to make a holographic display. We’ve previously seen this as a DIY project, where a guy showed you how to build your own pyramid-shaped display and use it with your smarphone. Now a Japanese company named ‘SSS’ seems to take it even further and started a crowdfunding project on Indiegogo for a 3D holographic display, dubbed ‘Holo case’.

As with the DYI project, the display is shaped as a pyramid for a full 360 degree holographic effect. The company already has a lot of useful real-world applications for it, from meeting your favourite characters in the ‘real-world’, to displaying expensive jewelery and minimize the risk of it being stolen from the showcase.

“Our mission is realize that thinking about how to interact with the characters. VR is the way we go through the world of character. However, there isn’t the only one answer for it. One of these is studying how to ” invite character into this world ” and we’ve realized it.”

“Here’s the example of exhibiting “authentic” ring in “Holo case”. Although the ring itself is just $10, you can display it just like expensive one by giving effect to the ring. Here’s the mini figure set in Holo case. We can display snowing scene.”

The company says that making an app for the Holo case is easy too. It just takes some animations to display on all sides of the pyramid, and you’re all set! They even say that using a game engine such as Unity3D or Unreal Engine 4 will make life even easier for you. You can find more information about the project over on Indiegogo.

Batman Arkham Knight Mod Adds More Playable Characters

Batman: Arkham Knight has only been out for a short time and while the PC port has a had a really shaky start that isn’t stopping modders from tinkering with the game. A modder has gone out of his way to make more playable characters for the free roaming parts of the game ranging from Joker to Harley Quin and a very wide selection of characters; the mod seems to cover just about every other major character in the game allowing batman fans to soar the Gotham skies as their favourite hero or villain.

The video showcases all the available characters to play with and to show off that they work with the animations and have all their correct move sets.

This is possibly one the most awesome first mods to be added to the game as the vanilla game lacks riddler challenges; a mode where you select a character and skin and choose a map to fight enemies till you drop or to stealthily take out foes. This can definitely add more life to the game once the player has beaten the main campaign; a must for those that wish to fight crime as the boy wonder or for those that wish to play the role of a villain and decimate enemies in the streets.

Hopefully, we can see some classic bat mobiles imported into the game next! Are you going to try this mod out?

Guy Figures out How to Unlock Rain in Mortal Kombat X

Since Mortal Kombat X got released, there have been a lot of blood spilling and skulls cracking. However, players can fight against a sizeable group of classic Mortal Kombat characters, but can’t select any of those characters to play with.

So what do people do when gaming companies restrict their content inside the title? Simple. It’s either modding or hacking… or both! As previously reported, modders found a way to hack into Grand Theft Auto 5’s PC core. So what’s to stop someone from doing the same with Mortal Kombat X?

It looks like redditer XVermillion is the guy behind the hack/mod that brought the Rain character at gamers’ fingertips, as his posts on Reddit (via Kotaku) indicates.

“There are other files you can change to get stuff like Rain’s name under the health Bar but the only files I modded are in the ‘Assets’ folder I believe; there should be 2 associated with Rain (Rain_A.xxx and another one I can’t remember but you can just search the folder for Rain).”

“Anyway, I backed up the files for Shinnok (the character I’m replacing) and renamed Rain’s files to match those associated with Shinnok’s 1st costume slot (CHAR_Shinnok_A.xxx and one other, the one that matches Rain’s other one) and moved ‘em to the folder and overwrote Shinnok’s old files with the newly renamed Rain files.”

“What you see is just me playing in training mode with what the game thinks is Shinnok but is using Rain’s model and moveset.”

However, the mod is only possible on only on the PC platform (sorry for all console gamers out there) and can only replace an already existing character model, so you won’t really have Rain as a character, but rather another existing model replaced with the latter character model (if that makes any sense, if not just go with it).

In the end, there are still a lot of DLC to come bringing more fighting and more models. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for the people behind the game to release DLC and have it so players can unlock all characters in the game. What do you think?

Characters from Mortal Kombat X DLC Will Be Free to Play

It looks like you won’t be required to buy the upcoming DLC for Mortal Kombat X in order to experience the new characters. The latest news reveals that all characters from the DLC will be free once players complete the Premiere towers.

The announcement has been made by Ed Boon via a tweet, where he announces the DLC’s free availability. Boon also said some of the characters like Jason will be available in this way through the Premiere towers.

Though the aforementioned characters are free to play (once completing a game requirement), the question remains if whether or not every paid character that comes out for Mortal Kombat X will follow the same pattern.

Bloodborne Day One and Second Update Detailed

It looks like Bloodborne players will have to ready their internet connections for a day one patch on its launch date, on March 24th. The patch is set to weigh in at 2.7GB and is required for players who pre-ordered the title on PSN or for those buying the title digitally or physically in-stores; the patch is said to already be available for players who pre-ordered the game.

The 1.01 patch is said to bring some big features like the Chalice Dragon, as well as enable online play and add an option to either display the PSN name or character name in matches. Another thing to point out is that players will have their gaming performance improved with the update.

“The development team is currently exploring another patch for Bloodborne, seeking ways to improve load time duration, in addition to other performance optimizations and miscellaneous bug fixes.”

According to their statement above, From Software is looking into a second patch which will address some loading time issues. A release date for the second patch has not been revealed, but the developers state it will “roll out soon”.

DOTA 2 Rejected Character Concept Recreated by Player In-Game

It looks like DOTA 2 player, MaxOfS2D, has recreated a ‘failed’ character concept designed by Valve; the recreated concept can be viewed in the video below.

Valve has provided access to its database of rejected concept design for the highly anticipated Faceless Void remodel over the weekend. The character model is said to have been offered as a compendium reward during last year’s DOTA 2 International.

The company is said to have dropped quite a few redesign options, including the wand-bearing dinosaur interpretation of Faceless Void and Lobster Void. Valve apparently has strict guidelines regarding what hero creations enter the title. It is said that one guideline involves heroes that have to get along with the game’s lore, which is why we won’t see this Faceless Void character anywhere beyond a player mod.

Rumors Point to Star Wars 1313 Ressurection

Star Wars 1313 was first announced back in 2012 and was cancelled a year later. The game was intended to be an open-world adventure set in Level 1313, an underground den found in Coruscant, having confirmed after the cancellation that the lead character was indeed Boba Fett.

Star Wars 1313 will feature epic action adventure game play including exotic weaponry and gadgets that bounty hunters depend on for survival. In addition, the game will feature a combination of agile cover-based combat, epic platforming and seamless playable cinematic game play. Players will experience awe-inspiring and action-packed cinematic sequences, constantly staying engaged through the threat, pressure and tension of this criminal underworld.

StarWarsHQ and GameInformer state that Amy Henning, the lead writer of the Uncharted series, is currently working on a new Star Wars game, which they believe is actually Star Wars 1313. It would make sense since a large buzz was made when the game was first announced in 2012.

Disney and EA could profit a lot out of this, given the fact that the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released this Christmas as well. However, rumours could turn out to be just rumors too; let’s hope that they’re true!
