Ark: Survival Evolved Lawsuit Has Been Settled

Who doesn’t love building a base? Well, when it comes to building a base having some help from your tribe sure comes in handy, even more so when they bring a T-rex to help keep you safe while you finish your little hut. Ark: Survival Evolved allows players to enjoy this amongst so much more, but the future of the game was brought into question when its origins were questioned in a lawsuit, don’t worry through because the lawsuit has now been settled.

The final word was said on the 13th of April 2016 according to the documents both parties involved filed, saying that they had finalised a “written settlement agreement”. The parties involved are Wildcard, the creators behind Ark: Survival Evolved and Trendy, the creators of the popular co-op game, Dungeon Defenders.

Earlier in the week Susan Stieglitz, wife to Jeremy Stieglitz, the man at the core of the lawsuit, posted the following hinting at the sum that Trendy were after.

https://twitter.com/SusanCStieglitz/status/719987095796711424

In a Reddit post there appears to be an image capturing a conversation in which Susan Claire Stieglitz states that “we ended up settling for 40”. With no confirmation and the details not being publicly released, there isn’t any hard evidence to talk about the outcome of the lawsuit expect speculation and the fact that it has in fact ended. With Ark: Survival Evolved still marked as early access on Steam, losing out on any income (especially something as large as 40 million), the game is sure to feel the impact and people will want to know if they have had to pay this money rather than towards developing an outstandingly exciting game.

Lets Get Ready To Robot Rumble!

Gundam, Evangelion, Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan. If you’ve recognised those three names, you’ll be aware of the thing they have in common. Giant Robots. In response to this we have aspired as a race to make giant robots, but now two companies want to take it further. They want to fight!

Suidobashi Heavy Industry, a Japanese based company, already announced that they had constructed the Kuratas. A giant four-wheeled (at the end of legs) robot capable of using its built in BB gatling gun to fire a whopping 6,000 pellets a minute! If that’s too violent you can also replace it with a water cannon, and it’s even up for being purchased!

Meanwhile across the water in the USA, MegaBots wants to create a sport behind fighting with giant robots. So what’s the sensible thing to do? Of course, challenge Japan to fight against their own robot! Designed as a giant bipedal (two legged) robot, the robot looks to copy those designs found in cartoons and anime.

Suidobashi’s founder Kogoro Kurata replied with:

“Yeah, I’ll fight. We can’t let another country win this. Giant robots are Japanese culture”

With no set date or location, we can only wait for that moment where it’s revealed and suddenly it all becomes a reality. In his response though Kogoro did state that he wanted the fight to take place with physical weapons, not paintball or bb guns.

League of Legends Player Reaches Diamond Tier with Exactly 3,439,140 Mouse Clicks

The Diamond tier isn’t the highest level in the League of Legends title’s ranked mode, but it still is near the top and very hard to achieve. Players who want to climb up the ladder all the way to Diamond (at least) are said to put a lot of effort and time into the game, like three years and around three million clicks, according to a player’s statistic.

League of Legends and redditer r3as0n has reached the Diamond V level, the lowest of the top five tiers that Riot uses to separate each of the seven separate ranks.

Diamond is said to be the third rank, falling short behind Master and Challenger, making it a respectable level to achieve, even with the game’s big community. The redditer has even kept track of the total number of times he clicked the mouse in-game during rank mode and until reaching the Diamond rank.

“I use a Razor Naga MMO mouse for league of legends because i’m not a big fan of shift clicking + Ctrl clicking,” the ranked League player told Kotaku in an email this morning. “I like having the extra 12 buttons at my disposal for key-bindings.”

“I’m reluctant to say that the mouse is the MVP,” he added, “but i’ve had this mouse since 2010 and I’ve never had any issues with it.”

After the last successful qualifying match that placed r3as0n in Diamond V rank, the counter indicated a number of 3,439,140 mouse clicks. This statistic is not just numbers, it also shows how long players are required to play the game in order to just scratch the surface of the upper-most competitive high ranks.

The redditer also admits that he formed a lot of reflexes during his time spent in-game, helping him make quick-judgement and take swift actions during battles.

In the end, given the statistics captured by r3as0n and the high number of League of Legends players, we will probably not see a lot of Master or Challenger ranked characters in the title.

Tanner Productions Remakes Top Gear in Just Cause 2!

While Jeremy Clarkson may be gone form BBC, his voice recording can now be seen in Just Cause 2 machinima. It looks like Tanner Productions have taken the audio clips from one of Top Gear’s challenge segments and put it in a footage of Just Cause 2.

The sound clips come from the original Top Gear show, where the presenters are spit into two teams, each racing to get from their shared starting point to a hotel a few hundred miles away. Richard Hammond and James May are said to have travelled by plane, while Jeremy Clarkson went by car.

In the video below, it looks like Tanner Productions adapted the sequence to the tropical island of Panau, having a perfect outcome to the whole thing.

The video comes to a turning point where they start creating new scenes around the audio clip, having Hammond and May shot down by a missile or Clarkson attacked by a gang of machine-gun wielding paramilitary.

The video is extremely amusing to watch and maybe we can see the entire back catalogue from Top Gear recreated in a Just Cause 2 sequel. What do you guys think?

Earn $300,000 for Cracking Telegram Messenger

Think you got skills? Think you can break an encryption? Then you can earn a nice little $300.000 bonus to sweeten your next couple years of expenses. The messenger service Telegram prides themselves on high security and end-to-end encryption and they are now offering prize money for cracking their encryption.

Earlier this year we had a contest to decipher intercepted Telegram messages, that did not produce a winner. Today we announce a new contest with an easier task and a larger prize — $300,000 for cracking Telegram’s encryption, and this time contestants can not only monitor traffic, but also act as the Telegram server and use active attacks, which vastly increases their capabilities.

You’ll have to assume the role of a malicious entity in full control of both the communication lines and Telegram servers. Your goal is to extract a hidden email address in a Secret Chat between the two users Nick and Paul. You control the entire process, from chat creation to the sending of each individual message and can perform various active attacks, including MITM, KPA, CPA, replay attacks, etc.

To prove that you indeed cracked the service’s encryption, you’ll have to provide the entire text of the message that contains the secret email address as well as session logs and detailed explanation of the attack. And don’t forget to add your bank details so you can get that $300,000 bounty.

The competition ends February 4, 2015 where the keys for encryption will be released to prove that the competition was fair. Happy cracking everyone. If you’re not up for the challenge, you might want to check out Telegram Messenger App anyway as it offers great instant messenger features for free and without advertising across all platforms, including browsers.

Destiny’s Ghost Takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

While this isn’t the first video game character to take the ALS Ice Bucket  Challenge, it is the latest. Just one week after Digital Extremes Warframe took the spotlight, where their digital space soldiers nominated Master Chief, Borderlands Claptrap and Destiny’s Ghost we are now treated to the first nominee fulfilling the challenge.

Bungie have created the video below, and have of course donated to the cause by sending 20% of all proceeds from the Bungie Store between now and the 9th of September to the ALS Association.

Bungie ended their video with a nomination for Joel from the Last of US, Jonathan Irons from Advanced Warfare and George Lucas.

Is Using ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in Advertising Going to Far?

We have all seen the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos. Some we have laughed at, on some we enjoyed seeing our not-so-liked person icing them selves down and others were just hilarious. And all that for a good cause, to raise awareness and bring in the donations. And it has worked, big time, and we can only hope that this will bring the scientist a lot closer to helping those poor suffering people.

I have to admit, that by now it has gotten a bit boring for myself. I still watch the one or other that seems out of the ordinary, but otherwise it’s a closed chapter for me in this round. But not so for Samsung. In the past it was Samsung’s trait was to be water and dust-proof and their Galaxy S5 is so too. Samsung Mobile UK have now uploaded a video onto youtube showing just that phone taking the challenge.

A clever marketing gag, that already worked as I’m writing about it now. But is this taking it to far? Using a horrible and terrifying disease like ALS to market your smartphone? About a quarter of the thumbs on YouTube think so and are pointing down.

The video ends with the phone challenging the iPhone 5s, HTC One M8 and Nokia Lumia 930 to the challenge.

The One ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Everyone Should See

If you only watch one ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video, make it this one. The Photographer Anthony Carbajal not only joined the cause and accepted the challenge, he also made a hilarious take on it. The first 2 minutes of this 6 minutes video show him doing the actual challenge, but it’s the last 4 minutes that are the real important ones.

While these challenges are great, and they raise a lot of both awareness of the disease and money for the research on a cure, most people still don’t know much about ALS. Anthony has been scared of ALS his entire life as it runs in his family. In January 2014 he was diagnosed with ALS himself. So it is no wonder that he actively joins in on this campaign, but he also chose to invite you to see him and his mother, who has ALS, as well as him talking about it.

For the ones among our readers with a big heart and soft soul, keep the tissues ready. It will get emotional.

Chris Pratt’s Take on the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ Is A Little Different

Chris Pratt who has starred in such films as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie has done his “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” and put his own little spin on it. He has done what I would like to think I would do in the circumstances and managed to have a few drinks whilst having ladies dowse me in water. What a legend! He was challenged by Disney CEO Bob Iger and actor Vincent D’Onofrio and he certainly didn’t disappoint.

Here is the video:

For those who don’t know, the challenge is to dump buckets of ice cold water over their heads to raise awareness for ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease. Its actually getting some great exposure with people like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg helping to raise awareness. It’s certainly becoming the next viral craze with celebrities and Youtube stars all jumping on board to help.  After they have dumped water over their heads, they are meant to nominate at least one other person to do the same, in the above video Chris nominated actors Gregory Smith, Nick Offerman and wrestler come actor Dave Bautista. Hopefully, even more of these will be done to raise awareness but I do hope that people do continue to try and make them as entertaining as possible.

MakerBot and NASA Launch a Competition for The Best ‘Human Base on Mars’ Design

MakerBot has reportedly launched a competition, in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, challenging people to become inspirational in designing a human base o Mars. Things like extreme temperatures, radiation spikes, dust storms are just a few examples competitors should take into account.

Although not every entrant will have a strong astrophysical background, NASA is in search for individuals who like to ‘think outside the box’ and give NASA some fresh insights and other points of view they might be missing. MakerBot has also placed a Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer up for grabs for whoever wins the competition, which has started on the 30th of May and will close on the 12th of June. Though not a lot of time has been made available, it has been reported that the competition already received 70 CAD file submissions.

One of the submissions comes from a graduate engineer by the name of Pierre Meyitang, who has submitted a so-called ‘DasDome’ , which is a huge dome housing surrounded by solar panel arrays that can fold in on top of the dome in order to protect it from external factors.

Ryan from Florida is another entrant who has submitted his ‘Mars City Base’ design, having it engineered to be elevated off the ground in order to grant wind deflection, having a pond in the center to store fresh water and houses located above agricultural plots.

3D printing concepts for space living have been around since astrophysicists looked at using the concept of 3D printing Earth homes and do the same thing for the Moon, having NASA due to launch the first 3D printer into space this year in order to experiment with printing in the most challenging conditions.

Team Created Pip-Boy 300 For NASA SpaceApps Challenge

If you’ve ever played the Bethesda classic that is Fallout, then you’re no doubt familiar with the rise in popularity of the Pip-Boy from Fallout 3. The wearable gadget is much like the smart devices we can wear today, only it’s a heck of a lot cooler.

Team Reno took part in the NASA SpaceApps Challenge, which set the goal of creating wearable technology for future space travellers. Team Reno created a Pip-Boy that really raised the bar compared to the other Pip-Boy style mods we’ve seen created by fans in the past. The new device can display relative humidity, altitude, latitude, longitude, atmospheric pressure, ambient temperature, object temperature and most importantly of all, radiation levels.

We wanted to make a piece of popular science fiction into a reality so we chose the Pip-Boy 3000 from the game Fallout 3. The goal was to bring environmental sensors into an easy-to-use cuff device that could help a wearer determine if their environment is safe for navigation or helmet removal”. said Team Reno in a recent blog post.

I’m loving the device so far, the 3D printed shell looks stunning and the inlay screen looks very much like that of the Fallout Pip-Boy. Question is, where can I get one?!

Neknominate And You Could Be Facing A Manslaughter Charge!

Above some of the people that have been killed in the process of undertaking the dangerous challenge

It’s not uncommon for us to hear of new trends and crazes that are doing their rounds on the likes of Facebook such as the seven-second vine videos and the Harlem shake that did its rounds on YouTube as well, but this latest ‘craze’ as such is one that I can only class as pathetic. stupid and in a number of cases down right dangerous. For those who are not in the loop as to what this latest thing is all about, users will make up a drink of various ‘ingredients’ in a cocktail type fashion, then neck it back to prove that they can do it. After this the person will then nominate or effectively dare one of more people to create their own concoction and so on so forth.

What seemed as a harmless joke however has spiralled well out of control as some people are mixing up cocktails that are lethal with chemicals and other poisonous ingredients and are then killing themselves in the process by drinking it.  With no less than five recorded deaths now to have happened because of the sheer stupidity of what is being done the police are no longer taking the situation lightly and any person who nominates one of their mates to do the challenge could be looking at a potential manslaughter charge if their mate dies as a result of this ‘dare’.

To add to the severity of the situation, a number of lawyers are now stating that they are no longer able to make out that the ‘nominator’ was not aware of the risks and that they did not know how dangerous the situation is. One layer made a statement to the Welsh paper, Wales Online that the risk of facing criminal charges for the sake of having a laugh is quite strong. In a statement to the paper he added.   “Any person would have to prove that the person who did the nomination knew with a degree of certainty what was likely to occur. At the beginning of this no-one knew what was going to happen. If a person knew, because of all the publicity and said, ‘I have been watching it on the news, I nominated my mate and thought he would be all right but knew there was a risk’ you could have grounds for a prosecution. It might be manslaughter.”

Simply put, now is a time to put an end to this craze before anyone else gets hurt, there are enough people who are out there making their own lethal cocktails and then telling you to tip it down the sink so I don’t have to do the same for you. Words cannot express how pitiful I am for anyone that thinks this is what you need to do to prove to your mates that you can undertake a dare. Is the thought of ending up in prison over a drink that you didn’t make not enough. Simply put, STOP IT RIGHT NOW.
