315,000 Game Consoles Were Sold in The UK During Black Friday

The UK’s Black Friday shopping spree resulted in a number of fairly decent promotions with the current generation consoles being a popular choice for Christmas presents. According to veteran games industry website MCV, retailers revealed a total of 315,000 units were sold during the Black Friday period. Please note, the term Black Friday doesn’t actually refer to one date, and sales began way in advance. Nevertheless, this is a very impressive number and showcases the popularity of console gaming in 2015. Additionally, the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console during Black Friday with approximately 139,000 units sold while the Xbox One shifted almost 134,000 units. This is a pretty good result for Microsoft considering their terrible Xbox One reveal and large number of customers defecting to Sony.

On the other hand, the Xbox One was discounted by a fairly decent margin with some excellent bundle deals. For example, one particular bundle includes a 500GB console, Ori and the Blind Forest’ & ‘Rare Replay’ downloads for £229.99. This is still cheaper than a basic PS4 console on its own. Clearly, Microsoft needs to try to shift units through cheaper deals, while the PlayStation 4 doesn’t really need help to report good sales figures. Overall, there was a huge increase in console sales compared to last year’s Black Friday event. MCV reported:

“PS4 sales are up 28.6 per cent over last year’s Black Friday, while Xbox One sales are up 23.3 per cent.”

Personally, I was very disappointed with the Black Friday sale and retailers didn’t really offer anything spectacular. Strangely enough, the best deals came from Amazon France, and Amazon Germany. Importing a console from these regions while exploiting the current currency conversion allowed for some breathtaking deals! Also, due to EU law, there’s no import duty, for anything sold throughout EU territories.

SCAN Launches Black Friday Extravaganza!

Black Friday is finally upon us and retailers have started to slash prices on a number of items just before the holiday period. SCAN is the latest company to offer heavy discounts on computer hardware, and it’s certainly one of the best sales I’ve seen in recent memory! Some of the highlights include a Corsair K65 RGB keyboard for £79.99, EVGA GTX 980Ti Hybrid costing £499.99 with game voucher and huge selection of CPUs at cheap prices! Another bargain is the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset for £39.99 which features exceptional audio and rivals products twice the price.

The EVGA GTX 980Ti FTW is also £100 off and on sale for £449.99. This makes it the cheapest 980Ti to date and it’s a factor overclocked model with a sturdy backplate. If you’re looking for a high-end GPU, I doubt any deal is going to come close to this. On another note, the Corsair H110i GT is another unbelievable deal and on sale for £69.98. The closed-loop-cooler comes with a 5 year warranty, luxurious tubing finish and superb temperatures. It’s one of my favourite products from Corsair in the past few years and a wonderful hassle-free choice for overclocking purposes. It also looks incredible and features an RGB LED block.

Overclockers UK Black Friday Deals are now Live!

Is it just me or is Black Friday turning into Black Weekend? I’m pretty sure last year retailers only held deals on the actual day and some into the weekend for Cyber Monday. Most places that offer deals either have a small selection of products for an epic 50% off or a huge selection for a much smaller discount. Overclockers UK take that typical process and have thrown it out of the window with this years Black Friday deals by not only having the typical Weekly deals (which is one of the largest ever for OcUK), but also have some outstanding deals for the Black Friday event itself.

Some of the deals listed are insane such as the ASUS PB287Q 4K monitor for under £310, which is an impressive 20% off retail.

Others are even better such as the Compact Bitfenix Colossus M Mini ITX for an outstanding £27.95. For those who like percentages, that’s 56% off!

The deals don’t end there, you can kit out your computer with new RAM, a new seat to keep those gaming adventures comfortable or annihilate the competition with multiple NVIDIA GTX 980Ti offers. The deals will stay active until December 1st or until stocks last, but at these prices I’d get in there quick. Now where did I put my wallet?

AMD Cutting Graphics Card Prices – Including Fury X, Fury and Nano!

AMD are in a really strong position right now, with a new series of graphics cards that may not have toppled all of the Nvidia flagships, at least not in every test, but it’s certainly put them back on the map in terms of high-end gaming. Their 3xx series of cards are knocking Nvidia down the charts, with better performance and lower prices than their competitor across a wide range of performance brackets, the new Crimson drivers and now it seems the battle is about to heat up even more, as AMD cards are seeing a range of price cuts.

Everything from the 300 series of cards, as well as the new Fury series which feature HBM memory are currently sporting some exciting deals at major retailers. Of course, it won’t be long before Nvidia play a similar price-cut game, but for now, AMD are tempting peoples wallets a little more.

R9 Fury X was originally $649, but that’s down to $589 and even down to $569 after a rebate! The R9 Nano, dropping from $649, down to $569, $549 after rebate. The R9 Fury, $549 down to a very tasty $499.

What about the 300 series? The R9 390X and 390 are down from $429 and $329 to $359 and $259 after a rebate. That’s exceptional value for money giving the performance of these cards! The R9 380 2GB and the 4GB model are down to a wallet friendly $169 and $179, or even lower with rebate at $139 and $159.

Most major retailers are already honouring these new prices, although Newegg and Amazon are currently the best deals I’ve seen, but it’s certainly worth shopping around and who knows, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, maybe we’ll see even lower prices.

The UK’s Xbox One Black Friday Sale is Rubbish

Black Friday has become a phenomenon throughout the world as shoppers desperately try to pickup items at heavily discounted prices. That’s only the theory though, as some retailers increase the RRP base price to make the discount rate higher. Although, this isn’t always the case and there are usually some bargains if you keep a close eye on HotUKDeals. While it’s not officially Black Friday just yet, stores like Amazon have already launched flash sales. Today, Microsoft unveiled their Xbox Black Friday digital sale which features discounts on a number of major releases. Sadly, the prices are terrible and you can easily acquire any of the discounted games from third party sellers at lower prices.

Microsoft has discounted quite a few titles but I’ve decided to focus on the major releases. Firstly, Grand Theft Auto V used has been as cheap as £17.51 and you can cheekily buy it using a VPN from Xbox’s Columbia store for £20.48. If you desperately want a retail copy which can be resold, eBay prices are still significantly lower than the £32.99. Fifa 16 is available via digital download from VideoGameBox for £23.13 and retail editions aren’t that much more expensive than Microsoft’s Black Friday price. Finally, Forza 6 recently sold for £27.99 although this has now increased.

To summarize, the Xbox One Black Friday sale is very disappointing and easily beaten by major retailers. Additionally, these are digital games with zero resale value. As a result, they should be at least £10 cheaper than the retail equivalents. Yes, I’ve included some digital games in the pricing comparison but this was simply to show the cheapest price on the market. In all honesty, you could probably buy retail copies cheaper, or around the same price and sell the games after competition.

Overclockers UK Black Friday Deals Revealed!

Black Friday deals are already cropping up on a lot of retail websites, most likely to avoid the one-day carnage that we’ve come to expect. Overclockers UK are the latest to join the party, launching what they’re calling their best Black Friday yet!

“This Weekly Only offers will be running tomorrow morning (Wednesday) as per normal. Any deals that are on This Week Only will NOT be further discounted for Black Friday, so customers can order in confidence and do not need to wait.”

Basically, if the deal looks great, snap it up while you can, but be on the lookout as there are plenty of deals to be found and it’s the perfect time of year to upgrade your system with discounts on all these great products.

“Black Friday will be starting early, the offers will start Thursday morning around 9AM so customers can receive and enjoy the hardware on Black Friday. Black Friday will end on Tuesday morning, or when stock runs out, whichever comes sooner. – Cyber Monday is the Black Friday deals, however on Monday we will be running a great Today Only deal.”

Expect demand on these products to be high, when they’re gone they are gone, so it may be worth sitting down with your credit card in hand and think of how to say sorry to your SO when they see your bank statement.

Get Yourself Prepared for Black Friday 2015 with Amazon Prime

It’s that time of year again where retailers will stop at nothing to clinch that early Holiday season sale. In years gone by, Black Friday has been in the forefront of the news over the absolutely bonkers deals on or immediately after the last payday before December 25th; typically the last Friday in November.

This year we have heard that some UK retailers are actually pulling out of any Black Friday association due to the chaos it brought upon the outlets last year. This probably won’t stop them joining in with another event, retailer Argos has recently entered “Blue Friday“, with the tagline “It’s Black Friday Every Weekend”.

If you don’t fancy rambling out to the shops, Amazon has announced another repetitive, but outstanding £20 off Amazon Prime until Wednesday 18th November. This means you can enjoy that glass of wine while browsing the sales and knowing you will likely get the item the next day. As an added benefit, you will also have access Prime Video, Prime Music and Amazon Cloud drive meaning after you have bought your last gift you can settle down and watch the latest TV series or decorate that tree to uninterrupted Christmas songs.

For the fans of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, buying this now means you will have full access to the Amazon Exclusive show which will be streamed in 2016.

What are you waiting for? Some motivational music? Well, we’ve got you covered.

Asda Avoiding Black Friday Sales Chaos Due to ‘Shopper Fatigue’

Black Friday is a US tradition which involves heavily discounted items and has slowly become an integral shopping event around the world. Two years ago, UK supermarket Asda decided to launch their own Black Friday event which ended in absolute anarchy. When the doors opened, shoppers began scuffling, and desperately trying to pick up items at a discounted price. The nation’s behavior was appalling and went against the civilized British stereotype.

With Black Friday once again approaching, Asda’s chief executive, Andy Clarke told the BBC that the company will not offer any discount events:

“The decision to step away from Black Friday is not about the event itself,”

“Over the last two years we’ve developed an organised, well-executed plan, but this year customers have told us loud and clear that they don’t want to be held hostage to a day or two of sales.”

This seems like a PR way of saying they don’t want to deal with customers fighting between themselves, and tearing the store apart. It’s important to remember, staff had to call the police during Asda’s original Black Friday promotion. I applaud Asda for doing this and setting an example, but I highly doubt other stores will follow suit. Clearly, Black Friday is a massive earner for supermarkets, and retail chains.

Walmart Launch Sale to Rival Amazon Prime Day

The battle for retail dominance has just escalated. Again. Walmart, the US retail chain, are not letting amazon steal the spotlight. This year they have announced that they are going to launch a rival sale on Wednesday in retaliation to Amazon’s recently released “Prime Day” meaning more than 2000 rollbacks in prices. The price reductions will last 90 days and will include electronics, home, baby and toys. Starting Monday, Walmart is also reducing the minimum order for free shipping from $50 to $30 for at least 30 days.

Walmart have out-done Amazon for making its lower prices on Prime Day available only to Prime members, who pay $99 a year to be part of the service that offers free shipping upgrades, access to video streaming and music. Walmart plans to say that it is “standing up for our customers and everyone else who sees no rhyme or reason for paying a premium to save.” In addition to the rollbacks and lower free shipping minimum, Walmart also promises “some special atomic deals,” with more details to come later.

Last week, Amazon announced that Prime Day — scheduled for July 15 and billed as a blowout sale bigger than Black Friday — would be held in honor of the e-commerce company’s 20th anniversary. It will include thousands of deals, with new ones as often as every 10 minutes.

Amazon Promises Huge Sale to Prime Members on July 15th

Amazon has launched its latest incentive to lure customers into the Prime service and now offering the subscription at a reduced cost of £59 for a limited period. Current member benefits include unlimited One-Day Delivery, instant access to movies and TV shows and secure unrestricted photo storage. While this seems like excellent value, please remember the Prime Instant Video service is fairly weak in comparison to Netflix.

To make this offer more appetizing, Amazon will be slashing prices on July 15th with more discounts than 2014’s Black Friday extravaganza. Prime members are able to take advantage of lower prices across a wide array of categories including electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more!

Additionally, Amazon is holding a photograph competition and rewarding the winner a $10,000 gift card. The process is extremely simple and all you have to do is take a photo of your happiest moment. One winner will be selected from Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, the United Kingdom and the USA. Entrants can only use one photo per Prime account and no additional entries are acquired through social media sharing.

New deals commence at midnight BST and continue throughout the day as often as every ten minutes. Luckily, if you don’t want the pay the Prime fee, just create a new account and set up a 30 day trial. Make sure you disable the auto-renew function or you will be charged the full £79 after 30 days. Hopefully, the deals in the UK will be more substantial than they were during Black Friday and have a larger stock allocation. In the past, Lightning deals could sell their entire stock within 60 seconds and I hope this doesn’t leave people disappointed.

Are you an Amazon Prime member? Do you feel it’s worth the yearly cost?

Microsoft Leads Black Friday Sales With the Xbox One

It looks like Microsoft has secured victory over the Black Friday sales period, with the largest share of new console sales going to the Xbox One.

According to InfoScout’s information, the Xbox One ranked first with a 53% in sales, while the PS4 came in second with 31%. What’s more interesting is that the Xbox 360 actually came in third with 9%, ahead of Nintendo’s Wii U console which represented just 6%. Sony came in fifth place with the PS3, with just 1% of the sales.

Thanksgiving Sales Up 14% Over Last Year, More People Shopping From Home

Black Friday is when the big sales normally kick off, but things are moving a day forward to Thanksgiving more and more as the years go by.

Many are reporting that the shopping frenzy is actually a lot tamer than it looks, with many retailers offering massive online sales which is leading to more and more staying at home and enjoying the savings, without having to venture out into the depths of retail stores. IBM has used their real-time benchmark analysis dashboard, discovering that sales were up 14% over Thanksgiving 2014, versus last year. The average order amount was down though, to $125.25, down from $132.

Not only that, but online sales at the the United States’ biggest department stores were up 29.8%, which is huge. IBM’s data also shows how people shopped, with a 10% spike in mobile device traffic, now up to 1/3 of all sales being done over smartphones and tablets.

Samsung Bundles Far Cry 4 with Evo 840 for Limited Time

Samsung has partnered with Ubisoft to give away some freebies for a while. Starting on Black Friday and while supply lasts, people who buy a Samsung 840 EVO solid state drive will be provided with a free download code for new Far Cry 4 game.

The Samsung 840 EVO is already a bargain on GB per cent and now the value has been increased further for a short period of time. The downside to this deal is that it is for America only as well as limited to a specified list of retailers.

Customers at Best Buy, Amazon, NewEgg, Microcenter, Fry’s, Tiger Direct, B&H and Adorama are the lucky ones to be able to get a free game on top of the purchase of their 250GB, 500GB, 750GB or 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD.

Currys and PC World to Join in With Black Friday Sales

UK electrical retailers Currys and PC World (both owned by Dixons Retail) will be participating in the American “phenomenon” of the Black Friday sales.

“The Black Friday shopping deal phenomenon began in the US. It’s always the Friday after Thanksgiving Day and is seen as the kickoff for the shopping season leading up to Christmas. Shops open early and there are big savings online and in-store in time-limited deals – it’s the perfect time to get your Christmas shopping started. It’s also followed by Cyber Monday, another day of big online discounts.”

The thing is, Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated in the UK, so why do the retailers feel the need to push this “phenomenon” upon us?

Let’s just hope we don’t see the same scenes as last year when Asda decided to join in with Black Friday –

Besides all of that, some of you may well find some great deals on tech next week, that’s if you can get past the hordes of parents fighting over incredibly cheap PS4s.

Next Steam Sale Reportedly Starts on Wednesday, Nov. 26

Everyone break out your credit cards and get ready to use those PayPal accounts! The next Steam sale is reportedly going to begin on Wednesday, November 26, though Valve still hasn’t publicly confirmed the date.

PayPal recently sent an email informing VG247 of the impending Steam sale, recommending it’s time to “stock up on Steam Wallet Codes from the PayPal Digital Gift Store.” PayPal wants customers to purchase PayPal gift cards, providing the opportunity to purchase discounted game titles easily. Video games can be purchased for family and friends using the gift cards, and account restrictions aren’t applicable.

It’s always possible PayPal is incorrect about the launch date, but with PayPal and Valve sharing a close working relationship, gamers should be able to assume the Wednesday launch date is correct – but confirmation could be coming soon.

Steam continually offers some games with varying discounts, but the Black Friday-timed event could yield even more deals. Are you excited – and ready – to bust open your wallets and purses during the Steam Sale? What do you hope to see on sale?
