School Student Arrested For Bringing Homemade Clock To School

The current world climate is one of placing people into narrow pre-perceived boxes which are based on current world stereotypes. A person is judged solely on their looks, dress sense and their social standing within society among others. Are these connotations correct? No, not really considering an individual could have 6 tattoos and a perception of being a wild character, yet could be kind and gentle.

This notion of stereotyping has sunk to a whole new level after a 14-year-old boy was arrested in Texas on suspicion of constructing a “hoax bomb.” Was it a real or counterfeit bomb? No… it was a clock. Officials at MacArthur High School in Irving alerted police because they thought the device was a threat to the education facility.

The teenager’s name was Ahmed Mohamed’s and below is an image of the homemade clock which was conveyed by Irving Police Department at a press conference. Perhaps it would have been better to ask the teenager concerning the device instead of ringing the police. The teen was subsequently placed in handcuffs and fingerprinted but later released after it was determined there was no threat.

To protest against this ludicrous situation a hashtag by the name #standwithAhmed was born and immediately garnered support from powerful individuals, these included NASA scientists, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and US President Barack Obama. Mr Ahmed’s family have arrived at the conclusion that his detainment was down to his name.

So, what is the response from the school? According to them, they have “always asked students and staff to immediately report if they observe any suspicious items”. MacArthur High School would argue that it’s better to be safe than sorry, but, in this instance could this not have been handled by someone asking him concerning this device? After all, Ahmed said that he had made a clock at home with the view to convey this to his engineering teacher.

I do feel suspicion has risen to the point of hysteria, yes there are many instances which have tragically occurred over the decades that have highlighted failures in legislation, but to roll out an overused phrase, would there have been the same reaction if this individual had been of a different ethnicity? It’s a shame that society has reached such a juncture to where even school goers are on the look out for potential terrorists and gun wielding people, one has to wonder as to how far this could go, the only thing I was afraid of at school was algebra, not suspected terrorists.

Russian Hackers Read Obama’s Email

According to the New York Times, Russian hackers may have gotten access to Obama’s White House email. While the White House itself has been silent on the issue, the emails were likely accessed during a hack related to the recent power outage. Sources with knowledge of the previous hack noted that Russians, likely connected to the Kremlin, were the perpetrators of the hack, a claim echoed again. Email at the White House was disrupted for about a month while the last vestiges of the hack were purged.

Despite being able to read Obama’s email, the hack is not as grievous as it could have been as it only breached the unclassified network. This means only unclassified emails sent to and from the system were accessed. Officials were quick to stress that no classified system was breached nor was classified information lost. The New York Times’s source suggests that the hack originated with a breach of the State Department’s unclassified network and found its way to the White House. That hack was so widespread, that to quote the New York Times:

“The disruptions were so severe during the Iranian nuclear negotiations in Vienna in November, officials needed to distribute personal email accounts, to one another and to some reporters, to maintain contact.”

Since the hack, Obama has reduced the frequency of his emails. Obama has been known for fighting against the Secret Service to keep access to his BlackBerry and email, unlike his predecessor, Geoge W. Bush, who completely eschewed email.  Given the recent revelations that the Pentagon unclassified networks were also hacked, it raises the issue as to how much these systems can be trusted and whether or not they are more of a liability than an asset.

President Obama Has the Power to Text Everyone in the US at Any Time

US President Barack Obama has the power to mass-message every American citizen with a phone whenever he deems necessary, the Wall Street Journal has revealed.

All modern phones on sale in the US contain a smart chip that allows messages from the President to be delivered under any circumstances. Due to an extension of the Emergency Alert Network in 2012, all phone manufacturers are required to include the chip by law.

Any message sent as a Presidential emergency alert isn’t strictly a text, and is only sent to phones within a specific geographic area. Though that area could conceivably include the whole of the US, it is unlikely except in the most extreme of circumstances. The messages cannot be opted out of; they are compulsory.

“Monkey” Obama Behind Internet Outage, According to North Korea

North Korea has blamed the US of taking down its internet services over the Christmas period and, in a gesture of unbridled racism, branded President Barack Obama “a monkey”. The US is accused of retaliating for the Sony Picture hack, and attack attributed to North Korea, which stems from dissent regarding the movie The Interview, a comedy in which two journalists attempt to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

An unnamed spokesperson from the National Defense Commission, a governing body controlled by Kim Jong-un, released a statement to the official Korean Central News Agency on Saturday, with harsh words aimed at the US President: “Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest.”

The spokesperson continued: “the U.S., a big country, started disturbing the Internet operation of major media of the DPRK, not knowing shame like children playing a tag.”

The National Defense Commission even went so far as to accuse the US Government of producing The Interview as a reflection of its hostile attitude toward North Korea.

The White House is yet to respond to the statement.

German Chancellor Disputes Net Neutrality

The battle for net neutrality has spread across Europe and the US, with President Barack Obama throwing his support behind a free and open internet. But influential German Chancellor Angela Merkel has scoffed at the idea, voicing her approval for a two-tier internet, with a premium channel operating above standard traffic on the same network.

Merkel made the declaration during the Digitising Europe conference, run by the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communication. “An innovation-friendly internet means that there is a guaranteed reliability for special services,” she said. “These can only develop when predictable quality standards are available”. Merkel sees this special channel of the internet as supporting innovations in telemedicine and driverless cars, which would require transmission that is “reliable and always secure.” Then, with the disingenuous suggestion that this practicality is dictated by current technology, Merkel argued, “we can’t talk about net neutrality if the capacity to have it isn’t available.”

Though the European Parliament voted against two-tier internet back in April, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine reports that the German government is still exploring the possibility of implementing some form of premium internet split service.

US President Not Allowed To Use An iPhone Due To “Rubbish” Secuirty

Apple’s security on the iPhone is apparently so bad that the US president’s officials will not allow him to use one, according to an article from Fudzilla. This might not come as a surprise for many, but apparently the men in black from the White House share the same thoughts.

President Barack Obama was asked by the tame Apple press why he could not be like them and use an iPhone. After all with all the questions that reporters could ask Obama, why he does not use an Apple product is the top of the list for any of the Tame Apple Press. However, their questions revealed an answer which the Apple press office would not like circulated.

Obama said he is not allowed to have Apple’s smart phone, the iPhone, for “security reasons.” Apple security is apparently so bad that it would be like giving all his personal data to the Chinese, Russians, or NSA. In fact, he happens to like his BlackBerry after coming to the White House in 2009, though he said only 10 people have his personal email address.

The company recently halted plans to be sold and is trying to chart a new course by focusing on large business and government clients. All this was a bit of a shock to the Tame Apple Press who instead ran many yarns about how Obama does use an iPad so he is one of them after all.
