COUGAR Launches New 450 Series Gaming Mouse and Keyboard

COUGAR already has a long list of great peripherals and now there are two more to add to that list with the announcement of the new COUGAR 450K gaming keyboard and the COUGAR 450M gaming mouse in two colour options.

The 450K mechanical gaming keyboard is built with hybrid mechanical switches that prove a tactile feedback and a durability similar to those of high-end mechanical keyboards. You also get anything else that you’re used to from a gaming keyboard such as programable macros, function remapping, and more.

The COUGAR 450K features a splash-proof design that both protects the keyboard from clumsy gamers as well as making it easier to clean. It is still an optical beautiful keyboard to look at.

The 450K also features a three-color backlight that will allow you to easily see which of the three gaming profiles stored on-board is currently being used, or just to match the rest of your setup’s lighting.

The polling rate isn’t bad either with 1000Hz and 1ms. The durability should be ensured thanks to the use of OMRON gaming switches. The 8 programable buttons allow you to bind most function you’ll want onto the mouse and it features 512KB onboard memory for its profiles.

Its two RGB backlight areas are independent which means they can display different colours and add to the 450M’s visual attractiveness. Both new devices, the 450K and 450M, allow the user to manage their functionality with the COUGAR UIX System and work perfectly separately, together, and with other COUGAR peripherals.

Razer Releases BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma TKL Keyboard

Razer is about to release a new and more compact version of the pretty popular BlackWidow Chroma keyboard, the new BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma. The more compact size originates from the TKL, or ten-keys-less, design where the num pad has been left out. Technically TKL is a completely wrong description as there are 17 keys less on these keyboard compared to an ordinary PC keyboard, but that’s the term it goes by.

The new tournament edition still holds all the great features of the original keyboard, including the 16.8 million customizable colour backlight option and the detachable USB cable. The compact form factor and removable cable makes it easy to carry and take with you to LANs and tournaments, and that’s where the name comes from.

Users can define their own key zones with individual coloured backlighting and the colours and areas shown in these press images are just one way it can look. You could easily create a setup where you just highlight the buttons you need for the game you’re currently playing. The keyboard is using Razer’s own mechanical switches with optimised actuation and reset points for improved performance and with a distinct tactile feel. Each of these switches is built to last up to 60 million keystrokes.

The new Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma Keyboard will be available in the Razer online store starting April 16th for a price of $140 or April 22nd for €169.99 in Europe.

The bad news for most of us is that this is another US-layout only keyboard. Razer has a tendency to release their top-tier and best-featured keyboards with just the US-key-layout. It’s beyond me why they insist on keeping it this way, or why they don’t offer a localized add-on package for purchase so I can replace the keycaps myself. It can not be that hard for a company like Razer to laser-engrave a couple of keys with a different print. Well, it is their loss as I’m heading to my favourite online shop now to order a Ducky Shine 4 instead.

Close Up, it wont protect the GS60 from drops much, though it should keep all normal wear and tear to a minimum.

Putting the notebook to one side for the minute and exploring the rest of the box, there are 2 wide compartments under the notebook and a long compartment running alongside the notebook.

MSI Launches Backlit B85M Night Elf Motherboard

MSI has launched a new Night Elf mATX motherboard with the main feature being backlight. However, the somewhat sad news is that it will only be available in China.

The LED backlight feature is called “Wisps of light” and can be switched on and off through the BIOS. The motherboard only uses a B85 chipset as the name already suggests, but the Night Elf still comes with some great features otherwise only found on bigger boards like the Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200 LAN controller as well as an EMI Shield design.

It has six SATA3 ports, four DDR3 DIMM slots, one PCIe x16 and two PCIe x1 slots as well as plenty of headers for everything. It also features the OC Genie 4 for easy overclocking. The external IO connectivity isn’t anything special but is has what you need: Two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, PS2 for keyboard and mouse, Gigabit LAN, D-Sub and DVI connectors as well as 7.1 surround sound.

The MSI B85M Night Elf looks pretty cool backlit and could make for some beautiful builds for those lucky enough to be able to get it, AKA everyone in China.

Tesoro Unveils Excalibur RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Tesoro has unveiled their Excalibur RGB LED backlit mechanical keyboard, which has a 16.8 million colour palette to choose from. The LED backlight can be set to breathing mode, colour loop and 2 gaming modes where only the primary gaming keys are illuminated. The LED light can also be dimmed in 4 steps to adjust to your liking.

The keyboard supports full N-Key rollover (NKRO) for anti-ghosting or USB 6 N-Key rollover when connected that way. A 1000 Hz polling rate helps to make sure no keystroke is missed. The gamer-lock-mode will switch off dangerous keys such as the Windows button that could minimize your game if accidentally pressed.

It has 512KB onboard memory for macro recording without the need for extra software. Personalized settings are stored in the built-in memory, allowing the keyboard to be fully synchronized for better performance. In fact, every key is programmable allowing for 5 sets of profiles with 300 macro keys and 2000 macro key presses each. The mechanical switches used are engineered for 60 million keystrokes.

The new Tesoro Excalibur RGB Edition keyboard should be available in December and carry a suggested retail price of $119.00.

Smart Keyboard Cover for Jolla Coming to Kickstarter

The Jolla smartphone still isn’t widely known, but it’s loved by everyone who has one, such as myself. The innovative operating system called Sailfish OS has the most natural input feeling and makes the rivals look like Windows 3.1 compared to XP on the usability factor, at least when you ask me.

Ever since the Jolla smartphone launched about a year ago, we were teased with a slide-out keyboard using The Other Half to connect. The Other Half is an NFC-based system that is integrated into the smartphone and covers, effectively turning the cover into something with a function instead of a visual-only feature. There are a long list of Other Halfs available, but so far the slide-out keyboard has been missing.

This is about to change in the very near future when the project that so far only is known as TOHKBD is set to hit Kickstarter. There have been teasers on Facebook and Twitter with the words “We’re almost there” and the progress log on Maemo also looks promising.

There isn’t that much solid information yet, but the keyboard will be produced in various layouts to suit an international market. Using the NFC and direct contact functions of the cover eliminates the need for Bluetooth and also gives the keyboard backlight ability.

Even with the various layouts, it’s still a very limited customer circle as the keyboard cover only appeals to Jolla owners. This is something that could make it difficult for the Kickstarter to get the funding it needs. Price is estimated at around €120.00 which might be another problem for the Kickstarter. A high price for a very specialized gadget.

Personally I can’t wait for this to hit Kickstarter to get started so I can pledge my donation. I don’t mind touchscreens for navigating, but typing on them is a real pain.

Also, the FORIS FS2434’s IPS LCD panel along with its wide 178 degrees viewing angle is said to provide vibrant colors with few contrast changes, while the extremely low 0.05 frames input lag is said to provide no delay between signal input and image display on the screen.

The first is Smart Insight 2, available in the “Game” preset mode, having it identify and enhance dark areas of an image by increasing the brightness in order to make it easier to see enemies. The FS2434 also adds an extra feature to the Smart Insight 2, having it enhance saturation in addition to brightness in order to bring greater contrast between characters and the background in a game.

The second technology is Smart Resolution, having it analyse an image for noise and blur in order to correct the blur without accentuating the noise, having to adjust only the areas where it is most needed. The third is Smart Detection, where the technology identifies the designated area on the screen where a video or game is played and applies the Smart Ironsight 2 or Smart Resolution whenever required.

Other technologies included in the FORIS FS2434 consist of the LED backlit, having it be controlled by a hybrid direct current and high-frequency pulse-width modulation in order to grant a flicker-free viewing at all brightness levels, as well as having a remote control and the company’s G-Ignition utility software. The G-Ignition is said to grand gamers access tp download presets created by professional gamers from gaming.eizo.com or export the user’s own customised colour modes to other gamers who also own a similar display. The software can also be used to assign hotkeys in order to quickly turn the monitor’s power and mute to ON/OFF, adjust the colour mode and aspect ratio.

In terms of connectivity, the FORIS FS2434 comes with two HDMI and one DVI-D ports, having it be compatible with PCs, consoles, Blu-Ray players and cameras. In addition, a USB 3.0 hub featuring one upstream and two downstream ports grant users the ability to connect to USB 3.0 storage devices or even connect their keyboard and mouse directly to the monitor. Also, the line-out jack allows for external speakers to be connected directly to the monitor as well, while the headphone jack grants further audio functionality.

Ozone Strike Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

Pro gaming, LAN gaming, online gaming, eSports, or just dragging Draugr around Skyrim on your own, it doesn’t matter what type of gaming you prefer, PC gaming has a whole lot to offer. It doesn’t matter which style of gaming you pick either, one of them or all of them, having the right tools for the job however does matter and having a great keyboard, mouse or controller at your disposal can not only improve your performance, but it can go a long way to improving your overall personal experience and comfort while you play.

The Strike Pro has been launched with one thing in mind, gaming. Everything about it is focused on improving your gaming experience and performance and Ozone are quite keen to shout about its abilities, so today I’ll be expecting nothing short of excellence to see if the Strike Pro really lives up to all of its own hype.

Mechanical keyboards are a prime choice for the gaming market, the switches used for each key offer a lot of precision and feedback that you often don’t find in a lot of membrane keyboards. Of course this is mostly just preference and many people still choose to play using a membrane keyboard, but one cannot deny the accuracy and speed that is offered by Cherry MX switches. Ozone offer a choice of popular switch types, Black, Red, Blue and Brown, but today we will be taking a look at their keyboard equipped with Cherry MX Reds, a very popular choice with gamers.

Specifications wise, the keyboard is very well equipped with 104 mechanical switch keys (fully mechanical), a 1.5 meter braided cable, 64KB on board memory for storing macros and profiles, full Nkey rollover! As well as an array of lighting modes and gaming modes.

The packaging is really nice on the Strike Pro, with a few major features detailed on the front, a really nice image and a cool cutaway that lets you get hands on with the arrow keys, a great way of testing out the mechanical switch types.

Around the back we have a very detailed break down of all the major features, but of course we will take a closer look at those in just a moment. There is also an endorsement from Samsung Pro-Game Team star Cho “Mata” Se-Hyeong;

“ For me there is no other option but mechanical keyboards. And there is no other option but the new Ozone Strike Pro. Cherry MX Switches, HUB & Audio inputs, Red LED Backlights, fancy design… So yes, I have many reasons to choose this amazing keyboard for my professional gaming sessions.”

In the box I found a small CD-ROM with all the basic drivers and software on it, of course I’m not going to use that as I will be downloading the latest from the official website, but it’s always nice to see them included. There is a full colour user guide that shows you all the major features of the keyboard, as well as a break down of different mechanical switch types. Finally you’ll find four spare grips for the underside of the keyboard, as well as a large vinyl sticker that would be perfect for the back of your monitor or the side of your PC chassis.
