Naughty Dog Used Assassins Creed Concept Art

People are protective over their work, they care about the fact that if they spend time making something then they should at least have their name on it, being rewarded by recognition at least for their efforts. So imagine the surprise when Ubisoft noticed their work in Naughty Dog’s trailer for Uncharted 4?

The mistake was first noticed by none other than the head of content for Assassins creed Azaïzia Aymar.

The trailer has now been taken down but not before the creative Director of Ubisoft Montreal managed to get a quick tweet in regarding the matter.

In a comparison of the two images, you can see the only difference being a slight difference in colour and the lack of a pirate (why would you remove a pirate from a picture?)

Naughty Dog has since responded saying that they messed up, with Neil Druckmann treating a link to a statement from the company.

In the statement NaughtyDog state that they “didn’t thoroughly vet the artwork used” for their story trailer. They go on to apologise to everyone at Ubisoft, who worked on Assassins Creed, the original artist and even their fans.

The Overly Generic ‘Doom’ Cover Fits Virtually Any Game

Doom is one of the most iconic FPS games of all time, although it did have the advantage of being one of the very first games to kickstart the entire genre, giving it a distinct advantage for a lot of years. Now the game is set to return to our screens once again. Doom is currently pegged with a release date of May 13th, which isn’t particularly far away, but it’s just long enough to give the developer time to delay again; let’s hope they don’t.

The release date isn’t the only reason we’re hearing a lot about doom this week, however, as the artwork for the latest Bethesda bullet-em-up comes across as one of the most generic covers of all time. Following that infamous orange and blue theme that so many hundreds of game and movie boxes have adopted, the game’s logo can be swapped out for almost anything and still looks like it belongs.

How about adding him to Halo 5? Seems fine to me.

I think I’ve actually seen this guy in a few Final Fantasy games, have you?

OK, this one I’m not so sure about, but if you didn’t know who Professor Layton was, it’s still pretty convincing.

Well, that’s just an easy match up these days.

This definitely looks like something I’d be eager to play!

Scrap that, this is the one I really want to play. Running around with a sawn-off frying pan and causing chaos.

Gaming artwork can be quite generic, as we’ve seen here today, but it’s not the end of the world. Fortunately, we won’t have too long to wait for the release of the game and fingers are crossed around the world that it won’t be generic to play.

What was your favourite entry in the Doom series? For me, nothing will beat the original two games on MS-DOS.

Exquisite Eggshell Carving Artwork Is No Yolk

Artists are always finding exciting and fresh ways to promote their artwork; this is, well, no exception, after the China Youth Network recently reported concerning a craftsman who conveys his artwork on eggshells. The artist in question is based in China and goes by the name Huangwei Xiang; he is 64 years old this year and below are images of this quite amazing yet delicate artwork.

As you can see, the first image below is of this gentleman’s latest series entitled “108 Water Margin Heroes” these were carved in 108 days. the fragility of the eggshell means the need for a delicate hand when applying pressure.

The next image below is of a phenomenal carving within a hollow eggshell, the intricate patterns and imaginative design certainly opens the door for a range of possibilities. On a side note, not long ago a “Hong Kong business person spent 30,000 yuan (£3,195.89) with the aim of buying two hollow egg carvings as well as 12 zodiac egg carvings”.

Below are two images which convey a close up of two of the Margin Heroes, patience is certainly needed when attempting to sculpt the artwork within the shell.

It is certainly unique and also requires a high level of skill to achieve these results, I would not have thought this would have been possible when you consider how fragile an eggshell is, but, it just goes to show what can be achieved within the world.

Imagining The World If Powerful Leaders Were Transformers

Well, erm, yes, as you do, have you ever wanted to see famous political leaders being depicted as Transformers? Now you can after a talented artist and satirist by the name of Gunduz Agayev has bought an updated 2015 incarnation of his “Transformers” series back to the public eye.

First up below is the former research scientist and current Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel who looks quite calm and authoritative, well for a transformer anyway.  Germany as a country has had quite a difficult year, from a faltering economy to the current refugee situation, I think the illustration captures the demeanour of the German Chancellor over the past year.

Next up below is what appears to be a cross between a transformer and Robocop in the form of current president Barrack Obama, this illustration perfectly captures the relentless attacks by Donald Trump over the course of 2015 as the US gears for this years (2016) presidential election, who would have thought Republication Trump could still have a chance of running for the White House. The illustration also conveys a sense that President Obama is attempting to be Robocop for the entire world after attempting to push through laws that impact more than just the US.

Below is the next illustration and it perfectly captures and also satirizes the current president of Russia Vladimir Putin, his 2015 has been somewhat gung-ho and has included verbal threats against numerous countries as well as air strikes in Syria etc.

Last but not least is the current Queen of the UK Elizabeth II, who looks quite cheerful as a red London bus transformer, it pretty much sums up 2015 for the Queen when you consider her personality never really deviates when greeting people in the public eye.

These pieces of artwork are memorable, unique and convey key characteristics while making a statement, they also have more significance rather than being just a series of over the top images.

Star Wars Lands Coming Soon

I cannot quite believe the concept artwork for the proposed announcement by Disney that it is planning to build two huge Star Wars themed attractions at its Disneyland and Walt Disney World resort theme parks.

Want to see why this might be too good to be true? Below are three images which have been tagged “Artist Concept Only”  I believe these parks will be built, but I am not quite sure they will look as amazing as these illustrations.  Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced at the D23 EXPO 2015 that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida.  This project will be giant in scale as the attractions will be spread and created at 14-acres each, this will be Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions.

These authentic attractions or lands as Disney is coining them, will have two signature attractions, these will include the ability to take the controls of the Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle. Other information to be noted from this announcement includes that the park will apparently be staffed and occupied by local inhabitants, which sounds authentic.

Disney have yet to clarify as to when this park will actually open, my guess is it will be a while considering the size of the construction project. If these concept artwork are genuinely accurate then even I, who has never watched Star Wars, pause for castigation, will want to attend. Disney’s grand notion of being “The Most Magical Place on Earth” if this park turns out the same as the concepts, then the FBI will want to know where they found that magic from.

Love Pixel Art? Check out These Stunning 8-bit GIFs of Japan

Japan has evolved to a somewhat juxtaposition within today’s fast moving tech world but has still kept its identity and influences from the past. It’s difficult to quantify how life moves within a new direction considering we as humans live through and are not aware of the imperceptible per day changes. Tumblr creative individual 1041uuu has turned everyday life of Japan into 8 bit GIFs, which are both stunning and also simply yet colorfully distil a perspective of this country.

Below is the wonderful GIFs which really do capture the imagination, they also add that old tech vs new surroundings feel to each piece.

The build up of colour for this image below is fantastic and it demonstrates the evolution of Japan’s skyline which is dominated by skyscrapers.

This GIF below has very few animated elements, all you really see move is the rain drops, by doing this you feel that you are not rushed and can therefore sit back and admire the artwork.

I would say the next three GIFs would be my favourites of the ones I have selected for this article, the reason for this is that all three perfectly encapsulate how the digital revolution has changed not only Japan but also large swathes of the world.  The train feels as if it’s from a different era while the passengers are all without exception focused on their Smartphones.

Old style tech on the right of this GIF which is a bulky TV with built-in video player with what looks to be a PC tower from years gone by, this is blended with a new laptop on the table with, well a unique, yes lets call it that, fish tank on the left.

This last GIF again demonstrates how things have evolved within a short space of time, from the fluorescent green of an arcade machine to the latest MP3 player which is currently being used.  This could also be a perfect observation of many people’s life’s over the years who have bought each new piece of tech.

These GIFs are colourful, creative and have hit the nail on the head in a subtle yet powerful way, by all means take a gander at 1041uuu Tumblr page for more GIFs, link is below, it’s certainly worth it.

See Famous Paintings as Raw Data

Now we all know how much effort can go into a painting by a person, but exactly how much goes into a painting by a computer? Japanese artist Yousuke Ozawa set out to demonstrate that by creating a series of artwork that showcases some of history’s most famous pieces in raw data.

Yes, what you’re seeing above is the legendary painting ‘The Scream’ converted into its raw data. The idea of the artwork is to showcase just how much code is behind an amazing painting such as that and how computers intricately replicate the work of the artist on our screens.

“Art is now seen through google images or wallpapers. However, we are actually looking at a series of numbers and letters instead of actual paint. Through a generator I retrieved the codes of each paintings I found on google images and printed them out, framed and showcased them at a galleries in Tokyo.” – Yousuke Ozawa

The pieces have been displayed in Tokyo, but we can all see them (not entirely in raw data thankfully) on Ozawa’s website.

New Screenshots & Gameplay Video for The Witcher 3 Revealed

The release date for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt may still be a while off, but that doesn’t mean to say excitement isn’t building at an alarming pace for what could be one of the greatest RPG games ever released.

Now the developers at CDProjektRed are hyping the game up even further with the release of their “Downwarren” gameplay video at Gamescom. Downwarren is the name of an unfortunate village in the game, or should I say it is the villagers who are unfortunate and Geralt needs to solve the “Whispering Hillock” mystery that is killing them off.

Check out the five minute gameplay below and soak up the awesome atmosphere of The Wild Hunt.

A 4Chan Post Sold For $90,900 on eBay… Wait, What?

Everyone can sell literally anything on eBay nowadays. For example, this eBay seller has auctioned a simple 4Chan post and expected to get a lot of money for it.

The really interesting part is that the user actually made a fortune off the post. It is said that Artnet originally caught the post, a vendor known as “Artwork by Anonymous”, who turned the simple Chan post into a $90,900 masterpiece.

The post originally started at $500, which is still a lot of money for a common thing you find on the internet, only to end at the above mentioned bid price. Also, the lucky bidder is said to enjoy free expedite shipping for the product at hand.

Re/Code mentions that the bid reached the five digit count in just 36 hours, confirming that the auction is fake since it is pretty easy to inflate an eBay listing. Even so, people can just bid and not pay for it, a common practice found on the site.

Anyone who has missed the first auction can now enjoy a second listing of the Chan post, which seems to have a starting price of $500 as well. As for the eBay seller, it seems that art doesn’t have to be unique in order to get a heap of money out of it.

New Graffiti Artwork Uses GIFs as Modern Street Art

Pedestrians walking down the streets of London have been greeted with some amazing and funny works of art. This is the making of Guus ter Beek and Tayfun Sarier, who apparently used a picture frame around an iPad to display some of their GIF artworks, taping the device in various places for people to enjoy and be amazed.

The colorful, lively and funny GIFs have been an eye-catcher for people walking down the streets, having them stop, take notice and even take some pictures of what the two artists displayed. It is said that after the GIFs got some attention, ter Beek and Sarier would then remove the iPad and place it in another location, recording people’s reactions as they walked past or stopped to admire them.

[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/101718999[/vimeo]

The two are said to be working in advertising, but also enjoy creating art projects on the side. They are said to be constantly showing each other GIFs, which is how the two came up with the project to “integrate the world of GIFs with our favorite hangouts.” The GIFs have also been chosen to ‘reflect their surroundings’, having an infinite hamburgers GIF for example placed in an area where food franchises are present.

However, ter Beek and Sarier are not the first to get creative with GIFs. The Photographer’s Galley in London and the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City are also housing similar forms art.

New Trailer and Artwork Released for Halo: The Master Chief Collection

If you’re eager for some more couch co-op gaming, online multi-player or just some iconic campaign gameplay from the latest generations of consoles, then Halo: The Master Chief will no doubt be high on your wanted list later this year. Bringing together four of the greatest multiplayer shooters ever to grace consoles with massively improved graphics is in my opinion the first good reason to but the Xbox One since its release and it should serve as a fun packed stop-gap until Halo 5: Guardians is released next year.

A 343i panel was held at TRX 2014 where a new gameplay trailer for Halo 2: Anniversary’s Ascension map was aired from the upcoming collection, fortunately YouTube user Wooshness recorded the live stream. The graphics are noticeably improved over the original and with 343i pushing to maintain 60fps and 1080p throughout (a first in the Halo franchise) it should be a lot more enjoyable and smooth experience to play.

The game will be hitting the Xbox One this November and with Gamescom and a few other gaming events between then and now, there are likely a lot more Halo goodies to be revealed over the coming months.

Beautiful Artwork Created By Mapping Websites

A lecturer from Newcastle University has developed a method for mapping websites, which takes a screenshot of a website at a given time, then maps out all the navigation links that a user can see, as well as all the source links for images, videos and code. This information is then mapped out to create some stunning looking artwork that makes a website look more like something the USS Enterprise would want to scan.

Data Cartographer is the work of Martin Dade Robertson, and it’s taken him ten years to build. It gathers the data using a web crawler like those used by a search engine, tracks it all down and generates the lovely images you see here.

Each node in the image represents a component of the site, such as an image, or another page and it is all plotted out using something called a “force directed graph”.

“I’ve been interested in the ideas behind the data portraits for some years now, looking at the way the online world is developing and how you could show that dense information in a new way in my research. I started playing around with the data and found a way to capture the information and make it into art. What is really fascinating about this is that it really is a snapshot of a website at particular point in time and if I did the same process again just a day later, the data portrait would be different as the information available would have changed.” Said Mr Robertson.

It’s a great concept and we love the idea of using technology to create something unique and original such as these artworks.
