Drones are one of the latest areas of technology that the public has widely accepted. Ranging from their use at filming sports events from different angles to being used for racing, weapons and more, they are certainly adaptable and dangerous. Two months ago it was revealed that most drones could be disabled with the right sound waves. Now it would seem that a company has taken this idea and created a public sector, anti-drone weapon.
Meet the DroneDefender. Created by Battelle and weighing approximately ten pounds the device is designed to help disable UAV’s and other remote controlled aerial craft from up to 400 metres away. While the military has been keen to develop anti-drone defences, this is the first time that a company has created something for use by the general public for drone defence.
By firing an array of radio waves, specifically tuned to GPS and ISM frequencies the drone is not only disabled but it can’t receive any future commands from its operator. With the possibilities being endless for its deployment, from sports events and public gatherings to buildings like the White house or Parliment.
With drones becoming an everyday purchase, with you being able to walk down to your local shop and grab one or order several different models straight from the web. Being able to stop them when they are clearly being misused is an idea many are welcoming.
Vizio is one of the US’ biggest TV manufacturer and they make some amazing screens, but it seems they don’t believe in the new curved screens. Not only are they not producing any TVs with the new “thing”, they are taking quite a poke at it with their latest advertising video.
The advertisement “Introduces the revolutionary Anti-Curved Glasses, a remarkable and radical piece of technology that will blow your mind and change the way you see technology forever.” The new Anti-Curved glasses are unisex and age independent; they even work for your pets and come in various colours. While these glasses are fake, of course, the advertisement is in my personal opinion both hilarious and spot-on.

American mobile operator AT&T has just announced a new product under the ‘anti-smartphone’ category – the Sonim XP6. Said to be extremely rugged in design, this new smartphone incorporates a physical keyboard and button support into its architecture. This announced device has been marketed as a phone that can support most common features as seen in regular smartphones, but provides the user with a rugged alternative useable in all scenarios and situations.
The Sonim XP6 can be used with AT&T’s EPTT press-to-talk service, giving consumers another way to manage their clients, management and staff easier whilst on the work site. They’ve also been given IP68 and IP69 certifications, meaning it is resistant against splashes of water, mud or any other liquid you may come into contact with while on the grind.
Marketed as drop-resistant, said to be able to be comfortably dropped onto a concrete floor, the Sonim XP6’s screen can also be seen in direct sunlight. AT&T have further included an extremely loud 103 db phone ringer capability, said to help identify when calls are coming over the sound of heavy machinery.
There hasn’t been an announced release date or price for this phone yet, but given it’s ‘industrial’ nature – you can exepct it to be quite pricey. This is a common trend amongst companies who cater products towards a commercial audience, why should they lower the price when it’s a company paying for the goods?
Many months ago I was introduced to a jaw-dropping statistic. According to their own data, Riot Games will see a minimum of 4 million users logged in to their League of Legends client at any one time, worldwide. This really helped put into perspective how big games were really becoming globally. This is coupled with the tens of thousands of concurrent users that League of Legends pro streamers receives every day, alongside hundreds of thousands of viewers for each world series tournament game.
On November the 13th, Riot Games released one of their biggest updates yet – seeing the new update to Summoners Rift head into BETA.
Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that League of Legends is a massively successful project and here to stay. Commonly known as ‘League’ by its regulars, this update sees the games mainly played map fully updated with improved graphics, clutter minimization and it will mesh more with current game styling. So far it’s sounding like a very VALVE-eque CS:GO update in all honesty – you know, those updates they do after the 100th Reddit thread about map release clutter being unbearable. Riot has announced alongside this update that for the next “several weeks” you can earn yourself limited red and blue icons by winning a match on either respective starting side of your game.
There are other game-modes and maps besides Summoners Rift including their popular ARAM (All Random, All Mid) level – however updates for this version have not yet been announced to the public.
This update is said to come alongside more anti-cheating methods implemented by Riot, combating a various range of third-party plugins devised to give one or multiple players an unfair game advantage aka filthy hackers.
If you wish to try out the Beta of this new map, you’re going to have to queue with bots or in ‘team builder mode’ until it goes live on public matchmaking.
