Gears of War 4 Release Date Confirmed

The Gears of War franchise has rapidly become one of Microsoft’s most successful exclusives and gained popularity for its no-nonsense, frantic action. Instead of trying to implement a heartfelt story with dramatic twists, the intense gameplay has always been the series’ main attraction. While it’s not necessarily a system seller like Halo or Forza, it’s certainly a great addition to the Xbox’s line-up. In a post on Xbox Wire, Adam Fletcher, Director of Community from the Coalition announced the release date of Gears of War 4. Here is the statement in full:

“Gears fans, mark your calendars, as the next chapter in the Lancer-revving Gears of War saga is set to begin on Oct. 11 with the release of Gears of War 4.

It’s been almost a year since Gears of War 4 made its global debut at E3 2015, and today’s announcement is set to ignite a chain of upcoming revelations about what’s in store for JD Fenix and the next generation of Gears heroes.

Gears of War 4 marks the beginning of an epic new saga for one of gaming’s most celebrated franchises, as a new band of heroes rises to confront a fearsome new threat. Harkening back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic, fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay, including brutal and intimate action, a heart-pounding campaign, genre-defining multiplayer and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 4.

Eager to get a taste of Gears of War 4 before October? Don’t miss the multiplayer beta kicking off this month!

Beginning on April 18, fans who’ve played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will be able to join the beta on Xbox One, which will expand to all Xbox Live Gold members on April 25. For more information on what to expect from the beta, check out our recent announcement highlighting the full details, and stay tuned to Xbox Wire and GearsofWar.com for more exciting news in the coming weeks and months.”

Unfortunately, the announcement doesn’t provide any information about a PC version. I fully expect the game to be released on PC in the future especially when you consider some vague statements have been made about its production. Sadly, it looks like the game will remain an Xbox One exclusive for the current period and not have a similar simultaneous release schedule like Quantum Break.

Jakarta Taxi Drivers Are Protesting Against Uber

Recent years have seen the rise of apps that sometimes disturb common practices, things that have been going on for many years already. One of the things disturbed has been Taxi’s with many apps offering similar services, often for cheaper fares. Taxi Drivers in Jakarta have had enough and are now protesting against Uber and similar apps.

Taxi drivers in Jakarta are saying that apps such as Uber and grab have impacted their business, resulting in reduced salaries. The impact they say is because unlike Taxi companies, the apps are not affected by the costs and regulations that Taxi companies have to pay.

The protests have been less than calm though with reports of violence erupting. One man stated that he saw a passenger being threatened with rocks when a taxi driver accepted a passenger and footage has shown taxi drivers being threatened and attacked for not taking part in the strikes.

No matter what their opinions on the matter, attacking other taxi drivers does nothing but harms their reputation, arguments and relationships with fellow workers as they fight for the “good of the group”. The protesters have taken to blocking roads outside many government buildings, including the ministry of communication and parliament, resulting in heavy delays in the capital.

With apps like Uber offering features that taxi’s simply can’t, such as the new Family ride service, are taxi’s able to keep up with the apps or are they sticking to a model which technology has made dated? Do you use Uber or are you a Taxi person? Which is better in your opinion and why use one when the other is available? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below

EVGA Bundles Action-RPG Bombshell With Select GPUs

Everyone likes to get things for free and you will if you purchase one of EVGA’s graphics cards Nvidia GTX 900 series graphics cards. For a limited time, EVGA will bundle codes for action role-playing game Bombshell with the purchase of EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN X, 980 Ti, 980, 970, 960, and 950 graphics cards.

Bombshell comes from the creators of Rise of the Triad and legendary game maker 3D Realms. Some of our readers might not be old enough to remember Rise of the Triad, also known as ROTT, but it was a groundbreaking first person shooter game back in the 90s. There was a recent remake of the original game that came out in the end of 2013, but the original is what I’ll remember.

“Bomb disposal technician turned mercenary for hire, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison must strong-arm her way across 4 planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to rescue the president from an apocalyptic alien threat. With out-of-this-world enemies, a never-before-seen arsenal of devastating weaponry and a host of genre-crossing mechanics, Bombshell is set to blow you away.”

The basic story plot of the game is pretty generic in its form, you have to save the president. But other than that, it looks pretty fun. You travel the dying world of Kyrron as it’s consumed by its neighboring sun. You’ll then have to shell, shock and shatter your way through vicious, bloodthirsty predators, an augmented alien species, and the remnants of an ancient race re-animated, with more than 10 weaponized arm modifications.

Your hero, Shelly Bombshell Harrison, has fierce finishing moves and can use the interactive environments make to make her as dynamic as she is deadly. The game is described as a brutal shooting game mixed with classic role-playing mechanics, which both should speak to a lot of people. Those are two of the biggest game genres.

The game is enhanced for use with Nvidia based graphics cards, which is why it comes bundled with those and not the entire EVGA lineup. The game has been enhanced with NVIDIA HBAO+, PhysX and Turbulence Technologies for lifelike physics effects and realistic shadows.

Normally the game will set you back €35.99 on Steam, so it is a nice gift to get along with your new graphics card as well as something to test your new found capabilities thanks to the GTX 900 series graphics cards. You can check the long list of participating cards here where you also can redeem your code. The promotion is valid purchases made on or after January 29th, 2016.

Grim Dawn Considered Content Complete

Grim Dawn is an action RPG game from the people who created Titan Quest, a game that is considered a must play in many circles. Following the same gameplay mechanics, with a few more added on Grim Dawn is set in a universe where magic and violence are common with characters facing anything from bandits to the undead all in one day. Like many games at the moment,  Grim Dawn was funded using an early access model, with people paying to support the development in exchange for getting access to the game while it’s still being developed.Until now that is.

The studio behind Grim Dawn, Crate Entertainment, announced on Facebook yesterday, that the project is “content complete”. According to the studio, this means that we have access to not only all the games items and difficulty modes but that all quests are now accessible and there are no quests that cannot be completed.

With a final release set for early 2016, the latest patch sees users able progress all the way to level 85 and an additional 500 pieces of items means that hours of gameplay can quickly become days of quests and adventure.

Having played both Titan Quest and Grim Dawn I can say I enjoyed them both, with Grim Dawn leaning more towards my style, added features like loyalty to different groups mean your decisions have an impact and that impact shapes your character and your world. Have you played either and are you excited for the big release?

Judge Supports Man Who Shot Down Drone

Drones are a hot topic, with both laws and companies trying to catch up on an evolving and increasingly more accessible market for the public. Back in August we posted about William Meredith, a resident in the USA, who after spotting a drone flying above his property, was prompted to shoot it down.

Meredith cited his right to privacy, stating that the drone was flying above his property on an afternoon while his daughters were in the back garden playing. It would appear that the Judge, deciding on Monday that the drone did, in fact, invade his privacy, giving him a right to shoot it. The judge made this decision given the two witnesses who testified that the UAV flew below the tree line of Meredith’s property.

The drone pilot and owner, David Boggs, is less than happy with this decision, stating that the Judge completely ignored video footage of the drone flying 200 feet above the ground. Aside from this drama Meredith states that his neighbours saw the drone making several flights over his land, explaining that the video could have come from a different flight and cannot be used to prove that it was the only flight or that all of them took the same pattern.

With the law trying to catch up with technology, instances like this may soon refer to this case a president for what to do when people take action to prevent drones on their property. We do not recommend though that you start using anti-drone weaponry on anything that flies near your house.

Mighty No.9 Release Date Confirmed

8 Bit and 16 bit side scrolling games. The classics that are remembered by many as the start of their gaming lives are due an update and Deep Silver and Comcept look to do just that with the release of Mighty No. 9.

The game has been plagued by delays, to the point where even the demo that was promised was pushed back by the companies involved. Finally, Deep Silver and Comcept have come forward with a release date, that resides less than five months from now.  In America, you will be able to get Mighty No. 9 on the 9th February with the whole world gaining access on the 12th.

The concept of a side scroller was made famous by games like the Megaman series. You are challenged by aesthetically different environmental hazards and enemies as you jump, climb and shoot your way to the boss awaiting you at the end of the level. Defeating them will grant you access to their weapon, allowing you to complete the level and any subsequent levels with their abilities.

With 9 initial levels followed by 3 later on, you’ll be able to play a variety of levels and see who is best suited to what weapon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alhQ3cmIGT8&feature=youtu.be

With a variety of levels and options available, platforming games often make appearances at tournaments where speed running is the flavour of the day. Challenging your friend to see who can complete a level faster and with the better score is always a nice challenge and one that is rarely done without a smile.

Thank you DSO Gaming for the information.

Jason Statham Packs 264 Punches in Movie Supercut!

The unbreakable Jason Statham has thrown a significant amount of punches throughout his film career, and a super-fan has edited every scene together in an adrenaline-fuelled action-packed montage. Statham’s tough-guy image began in The Transporter before starring in higher-budget films such as Furious 7. Of course, his talents don’t necessarily revolve around dialogue but the ability to knock down anyone by brute force! Here is the complete list of films featured in order of appearance:

  • Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
  • Turn It Up
  • Ghost Of Mars
  • The One
  • Mean Machine
  • The Transporter
  • Cellular
  • Transporter 2
  • Chaos
  • Crank
  • In The Name Of The King
  • War
  • The Bank Job
  • Death Race
  • Transporter 3
  • Crank 2: High Voltage
  • The Expendables
  • The Mechanic
  • Gnomeo and Juliet
  • Killer Elite
  • Safe
  • The Expendables 2
  • Parker
  • Redemption
  • Homefront
  • Wild Card
  • Furious 7

The video is certainly an interesting watch and I remember Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels rather fondly. A lot of the films, I haven’t seen but Statham usually provides a silly and dumb experience. He does seem to get embroiled in a number of perilous situations and in his old age probably needs to calm down slightly. I’m still waiting for him to feature in a romantic, emotionally charged film just to entertain my sadistic side.

What is your favourite film starring Jason Statham?

Of course, NSFW language and behaviour throughout.

EE Unveil Action Camera with Built-In 4G

At a small event this morning in London, the UK’s largest mobile service provider EE unveiled the next stage of their “Connected Vison” plan. The 4GEE action camera.

It is essentially a GoPro camera, but has built-in 3g and 4g connectivity so you can stream your crazy videos direct from your device. You will be able to add it to your monthly plan for £10 per month and will be available from Jue 16th. So what are the specs?

  • 13-megapixel sensor
  • Can record at 1080p @ 30 FPS, 720p @ 60 FPS, 480p @ 120 FPS,
  • Still image capture resolution :(4288×3216).
  • Live streaming is limited to 720p @ 30 FPS.
  • F/2.8 lens
  • 4GB internal memory
  • SD Card Slot
  • 2260mAh internal battery

Streaming of the video will be done via EE’s own video streaming platform, Skeegle. This then uses permission from Facebook to decide who can view your streams. It will ship with several accessories. Once of which will be a Viewfinder Watch (for setting up your shot), an underwater enclosure that’s good at depths up to 60 meters and also an adapter to allow you to mount it on GoPro tripods and other accessories.

All this 4g streaming talk makes me wonder about data usage and caps. One hour of streaming will use around 1GB of data, EE charge roughly £30 for 5GB of data per month. You could buy the camera outright (£400) and then you get 2gb of data per month, for the year. You’ll also be able to get the camera on contract, with a £50 one off charge, then £15 per month after for 2GB of data allowance. Pretty tight eh?!

Watch Master Chief Take on Call of Duty Players and a Juggernaut

There is a never ending battle going one between the two console races and it never seems to take any end. Which is best, Xbox or Playstation. Which is better, that’s really a personal choice and down to one’s needs, but the latest video from Danny & Michael Philippou gives a take on it.

Danny Philippou AKA Racka Racka describe themselves as wannabe filmmakers on a rampage in their Facebook profile, and that is a pretty fitting description of the video. A mayhem of funny destruction. The two twins come from Australia and this is far from their first video. If you haven’t seen any of their work before, it’s surely worth to check out.

In the video, Master Chief takes on a couple of Call of Duty players and a juggernaut in a battle to the death! PS4 VS Xbox One! But that isn’t all as the whole place also gets invaded by grandparent-zombie-apocalypse.

Don’t take it all too serious, just enjoy the video editing skills in this action packed video created by RackaRacka, 4 minutes and 40 seconds well spent in my opinion.

The video contains guns and bad language, so keep in mind that it’s NSFW.

Please don’t try this at home as you’ll probably end up in pieces, either shot, stabbed, or had you cheeks pulled off by the evil elderly zombies.

New the Evil within DLC Has Zero Guns and More Cats!

The Evil Within’s latest DLC takes a completely different approach to the game and its stealth/action gameplay. First of all, the most important thing to notice is that the gameplay has no guns whatsoever, forcing the player to use only stealth.

The DLC, named The Assignment, sees a chapter from Juli Kidman’s perspective. A peculiar fact about the game and its gameplay is that the player has to save the game… by petting a cat! Though it may sound strange, if you played the original game, petting a cat is nothing compared to the weirdness found in the game.

As previously mentioned, the DLC focuses mainly on stealth, having removed all weapons inside the one hour gameplay. The players need to rely on sneaking, hiding and distractions to get through, but Tango Gameworks made sure you have all the features required at your disposal. They even added a shouting feature in order to aid players in progressing through the game, as well as new puzzles which rely on Kidman’s flashlight.

There have been a lot of controversy from players who prefer to use the action gameplay when playing the game, however fans of the more stealthy approach will be keen on giving this DLC a try.

Linux Open Source License Allegedly Violated by VMWare

VMWare, the virtualization software maker, is apparently facing a lawsuit for violating the GPLv2 free software license for years by using Linux and other source code in ESXi.

Christoph Hellwig, Linux kernel developer, filed the lawsuit in Hamburg, Germany, with funding from the Software Freedom Conservancy non-profit organisation which works to defend and promote free and open source software. VMWare allegedly combined their own ‘vmkernel’ with parts of the Linux code, licensed only under GPLv2.

VMWare denies the accusation, calling them “without merit”. The ESXi hypervisor is a key part of the company’s leading position in the enterprise virtualization market. VMWare is said to have made $1.7 billion in revenue and $326 million in net income in Q4 2014.

Hellwig is said to be one of the most active developers of the Linux kernels. He was the first to denounce VMWare’s misuse of the GPL-licensed code back in 2007. The Software Freedom Conservancy organisation then discovered in 2011 that VMWare failed to provide any source code for the version of BusyBox included in the ESXi package, as required by the software’s GPLv2 license.

The organisation then begun negotiations with VMWare to provide detailed compliance on all GPL licensed components in ESXi, but progress was slow through 2013. Hellwig had been working more closely with the organisation in 2012 to analyse non-compliant releases of ESXi. After an extended period of time spent analysing the material, it became apparent that VMware’s current ESXi products infringed many of Hellwig’s own copyrights, due to VMware’s failure to comply with Linux’s license, GPLv2.

“During Hellwig’s investigations, Conservancy continued to negotiate with VMware. Sadly, VMware’s legal counsel finally informed Conservancy in 2014 that VMware had no intention of ceasing their distribution of proprietary-licensed works derived from Hellwig’s and other kernel developers’ copyrights, despite the terms of GPLv2. Conservancy therefore had no recourse but to support Hellwig’s court action.”

“In addition to other ways VMware has not complied with the requirements of the GPL, Conservancy and Hellwig specifically assert that VMware has combined copyrighted Linux code, licensed under GPLv2, with their own proprietary code called ‘vmkernel’ and distributed the entire combined work without providing nor offering complete, corresponding source code for that combined work under terms of the GPLv2,” the Conservancy wrote. “Hellwig is an extensive copyright holder in the portions of Linux that VMware misappropriated and used together in a single, new work without permission.”

The Software Freedom Conservancy stated that they proceeded to take legal action only after exploring ‘every other possible alternative’ over the past few years. The organisation is said to currently seek donations to help pay for the lawsuit, which they say could take years.

Stallone to Co-Produce Expendables Mini-series

Sylvester Stallone’s famous Expendables franchise has been announced to have a TV mini-series on the way. Reports suggest that Fox is developing a mini-series for the assassin/ hitman trilogy. Stallone is rumoured to co-produce along with the original producer Avi Lerner, yet no details of the cast have been released.

The Expendables promised to be an all manly man, gore fest with real fighting styles, guns and explosions, yet it turned out to be more of a clash of ideas, there’s not much more you can do once you take down an island dictator with an army that outnumbers your clan 50 to 1. With production budgets possibly cut, it may be unlikely we would see any recurring appearances from the original cast, but maybe this could be the opening for new up and coming action stars.

Haven’t seen any of the series? Here’s a little clip from the movies!

LinkedIn Facing Lawsuit over Access of Email Accounts

LinkedIn has been ordered to stand trial by a U.S Federal judge over allegations from users that they have been sending and accessing emails without consent.

LinkedIn has been found to be accessing users email accounts, copying their address books and using this information to solicit business. This is seen as a loophole by some as users do agree upon sign up to allow LinkedIn to use their contacts to send an initial recruitment email – but give no authorization to send further reminder emails.

US district Judge, Lucy Koh (San Jose, California) stated:

“This practice could injure users’ reputations by allowing contacts to think that the users are the types of people who spam their contacts or are unable to take the hint that their contacts do not want to join their LinkedIn network.

“In fact, by stating a mere three screens before the disclosure regarding the first invitation that ‘We will not … email anyone without your permission,’ LinkedIn may have actively led users astray.”

Koh has given customers the green light to pursue their claims that LinkedIn has violated their right of publicity. She has dismissed other claims however, such as violation of federal wiretap laws.

Crystal Braswell declared on behalf of LinkedIn:

“We are pleased that the Court rejected plaintiffs’ unfounded “hacking” claims and found that LinkedIn members consented to sharing their email contacts with LinkedIn. We will continue to contest the remaining claims, as we believe they have no merit.”
