EVGA Bundles Grey Goo With Select Power Supplies

Getting free games bundles with your graphics card or motherboard isn’t something new, that has been around for quite a while now, but it is a rarity that we also see games being bundled with power supplies. In fact, I can’t remember it happening before myself. However, that is exactly what EVGA has done as the have gone ahead and bundled Grey Goo Definitive Edition with select power supplies.

The game isn’t just bundled with a one or two power supplies, this offer applies to pretty much the entire 80Plus Gold, Platinum, and Titanium rated power supply lineup, as you can see in the list below. Ranging from entry level 550W models all the way up to impressive 1600W models, the offer is made available for most people.

Grey Goo is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that combines classic strategy mechanics and a balanced combat system with an emphasis on large-scale decision-making. It puts you at the centre of a tactical struggle for survival – and ultimately, control of Ecosystem 9.

The game features both a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer action with your friends and enemies. In single player, you have the option to play one of three factions: Humans, Beta, and the Goo. The Humans are the masters of defensive architecture while the Beta only is described as a proud and versatile alien race. The Goo is probably what most people will want to play tho as that is the enigmatic and highly mobile life form made up of, yes you guessed it, grey goo. In the multiplayer part, you also get a fourth faction, the disruptive and unpredictable Shroud.

As always with this kind of offer, there are a few conditions to get the free game. You’ll have to have purchased the power supply on March the 25th, 2016 or later from an authorized reseller. You’ll also need to register the purchased product to get the game key. Once you’ve followed the redeem guide, you’ll get a game code emailed that you then can activate through your Steam app as you most likely have done with so many games before.

All the fine-print and the links to redeem your game can be found on the official mini-site for this Grey Goo offer.

Enermax Announces the Revolution X’T II PSU

Enermax launched their Revolution X’T series of Power supplies a few years back and now they are back with the successor to the series, the Revolution X’T II power supply. The new line of PSUs is built with the best components such as 100% Japanese capacitors as well as quite a few awesome features.

The Enermax Revolution X’T II power supply will be available as 450W, 550W, 650W, and 750W models and all of them come with the 80 Plus Gold certification and part of that is thanks to the use of 105°C Japanese electrolytic capacitors for maximum durability and stability.

The flat and modular cables help you to run a neat setup where you can leave out all the cables that you don’t need. Fewer cables make for a better-looking build and it also helps to decrease resistance and allow for a better airflow in your system. Speaking of air flow, the Revolution X’T series comes with a 139mm fan made by Enermax themselves and utilizing the patented Twister bearing fan to offer low noise at the same time as a long lifespan.

Another feature that will help to prolong the lifetime of the Revolution X’T series is the patented HeatGuard, also known as Fan-delay. It will keep the PSU fan running for 30 to 60 seconds after shutdown to dissipate the remaining system heat and thereby prolong the system life. Enermax also added all the relevant normal protections such as OCP (3.3V/5V), OVP, OPP, SCP, and SIP.

The power supplies are rated for 24/7 usage at 40 degrees which again is a sign that the PSU should live a very long time due to the use of components. Enermax also backs the units with a 5-year warranty.

The REVOLUTION X’t II series will be available in the retail market in February 2016, so that will be any day now.

Fractal Design Integra M 550W 80Plus Bronze Power Supply Review

Introduction & Packaging

Fractal Design has been making high-end PC components for years, having already made a respectable name for themselves in the chassis market, making good ground in the PSU market and in the last couple of years, they’ve also been doing interesting things with water cooling too. Today, we are of course more interested in their PSU business, as we have their new 550W Integra in for review, a 80Plus Bronze rated semi-modular unit that is targeted at mid-range systems within a reasonably affordable budget range.

“Fractal Design Integra M units are equipped with a large temperature-controlled 120mm fan for reduced noise levels and optimum cooling. The Integra M is a great choice for medium-performance gaming computers and workstations.” – Fractal Design

Equipped with a compact 140mm form factor, this ATX power supply is well suited to chassis that has a compact design, and that should allow you more room for cable routing, longer graphics cards, cooling and more, dependant on your chassis configuration. Modular and flat style cables are also a big win, as they’re much easier to route and you can remove any cables you do not require, helping you achieve a much cleaner looking system build.

The Integra M ticks all the usual boxes, as you would expect any modern power supply to; OPP, OVP, UVP and SCP. You’ll also find good quality Taiwanese capacitors, bronze efficiency, a good quality 120mm fan, and a trusty 3-year warranty.

The packaging is nicely designed, as is always the case with Fractal Design products. On the front, we can see prominently displayed, the three years warranty, 80 Plus Bronze rating and the 550W power output.

Around the back, a little technical information on the performance, although we’ll be testing this ourselves shortly, as well as information about the fixed and modular cables.

In the box, there’s a simple user guide, mounting screws, cable ties, a couple of velcro straps and the mains power cable.

Aerocool Reveals Xpredator PSU Price and Availability

Aerocool recently revealed the new line of 80Plus Gold certified Xpredator power supplies, but at the time, they didn’t reveal the availability nor the pricing. We now have both these information at hand and will naturally share them with you. The new Aerocool Xpredator 550W, 650W, 750W, and 1000W models will be available at e-tailers and retails starting this week for a price of €75.00, €83.00, €88.50, and €139.00 Euro respectively.

With these four capacity options and a very reasonable price tag for a power supply unit with a gold rated efficiency, these PSUs should become quite popular despite that Aerocool mostly is known for their cooling options and PC chassis. The Xpredator Gold Series power supply units feature a modular design for easy cable management and convenience and the PSU also comes with some removable cable straps for further improvement in the cable management options. They use a single 12 Volts rail for high compatibility and extremely high current output. The maximum voltage deviation of the single rail is at ±3% thanks to the DC-to-DC design.

Aerocool installed a 120mm fan in the PSU which helps with the cooling and noise generation and the top model even comes with a 140mm. The PSUs support both the ATX12V v2.4 as well as EPS v2.92 so you can use them in all your setups. The main 20+4P and CPU 4+4P cable straps are up to 600mm long and sleeved. The removable cable straps, on the other hand, are utilizing black flat cables. You also get all the protections that you’ll want, including OVP, OCP, OPP, UVP, SCP, and SIP.

SilverStone Releases World’s Smallest Platinum Certified PSUs

The times where a powerful PC system needed to take up a lot of space is long gone, at least when we think in home use scenarios and not server farms. Size is one thing and we like to keep it small and out of the way most of the times, we just want the systems to work and provide their services, preferable as efficient as possible. With these two things in mind, SilverStone created the new Strider Platinum series of power supplies that are the world’s smallest 80 Plus Platinum full-modular ATX power supplies.

SilverStone offers three new versions in the Strider Platinum series, a 550W model (ST55F-PT), a 650W model (ST65F-PT), and a 750W model (ST75F-PT). All three units come with the same benefit of only being 140mm deep, that is quite a bit smaller than usual. The fully modular cables allow for a neat setup where you only connect what you actually need. The highly efficient PSUs are 24/7 certified for continuous power output with an operating temperature of 40 degrees Celcius.

The single +12V rail is class-lading and the PSUS have a strict plus minus 3% voltage regulation and low ripple and noise. Speaking of noise, not electronical but audible, the ultra-silent 120mm fan with intelligent semi-fanless operation keeps that down too.

The new SilverStone Strider Platinum PSUs will be available on October the 19th for an MSRP of $131.88, $143.88, and $165.48 respectively, exclusive VAT.

Equipped with a powerful single +12V rail configuration, modular cables, CrossFire/SLI compatibility, Haswell support and much more, this is certainly a capable unit for a wide range of systems. Of course, you’ll also find it comes equipped with all the latest safety features, as well as high-quality Japanese capacitors, which should allow for clean and stable power delivery.

As with many Seasonic manufactured units, this PSU also comes equipped with a Hybrid Fan, allowing you to switch between always on cooling and a semi-passive mode, perfect for those who desire maximum performance or silent operation.

  • EasyRail Plus Technology allowing plenty of wattage headroom to handle your devices
  • Hybrid Fan Control allowing the power supply to operate silenty until it reaches 20% load or 25C
  • Ultra Quiet Fan Design
  • Ultra Voltage Regulation Design
  • Haswell Ready
  • AMD Radeon CrossFire Ready
  • NVIDIA GeForce SLI Ready
  • Multiple PCI-E 6-Pin and 6+2Pin connectors

  • Extreme heat tested capacitors

The packaging is very nicely designed, with some stylish images on the box as well as a rundown of the major features, such as Haswell Ready, Japanese Caps, SLI/CrossFire and 80 Plus Gold efficiency.

Another important feature on the back, the True Wattage Guarantee, always a reassuring thing to see and something we’ll certainly hope to see in our test results.

In the box, you’ll find a durable power cable, some mounting screws and a user manual, nothing too fancy, but it’s everything you’re going to need.

Cooler Master Launches V Series Power Supply Units

Cooler Master officially launched their new V-series power supplies today and they look to be quite impressive. The V Series power supplies feature the most stable and efficient power supply unit in its class thanks to exclusive 3D circuit design and Silencio FP technology.

The new V-series power supplies are available in three different designs, one with 550W, one with 650W, and one with 750W. The three new units come with a fully modular design that includes flat cables. The V-series comes with Gold and Platinum ratings, but these three new units are all Gold. Cooler Master managed to put all this technology into a compact form factor that will fit pretty much any chassis that can take ATX power supplies.

The Silencio FP fan technology enhances the possible airflow and reduces vibrations at the same time. In return, you get an even more stable power supply.

The V550 and V650 come with the usual 20+4-pin and 4+4-pin motherboard connectors while the V750 features an extra 4+4-pin. The two small units feature two PCIe 6+2-pin connectors and the V750 again doubles that. When it comes to SATA, Molex, and Berg connectors, it looks a bit different. The V550 features six SATA power, three MOLEX, and one Berg. The V650 and V750 have eight SATA power connections, six Molex, and 1 Berg/Floppy connector.

The three new units will be available in Europe at the beginning of October 2015 for an MSRP of £89.99, £99.99, and £109.99 respectively for the V550, V650, and V750.

If your interest has been sparked, then I’d recommend that you head over to our review section and check out the full review on the new Cooler Master V750 PSU.

Cooler Master V750 Modular Power Supply Review

Introduction

Cooler Master is one of most recognisable and well-respected names in the PC component market. Over the years, Cooler Master has created some of the best power supplies, coolers and chassis around, not forgetting their gaming division CM Storm, which has delivered some very impressive headsets, keyboards, mice and much more too! With all that in mind, I am very excited to see another Cooler Master product in the office today, their brand new V750 power supply, which promises premium performance in a tidy and compact form factor.

“V Series power supplies feature the most stable and efficient power supply unit in its class thanks to exclusive 3D circuit design and Silencio FP technology. The V Series has fully modular flat cables with energy-saving 80PLUS Gold/Platinum ratings all delivered in a compact design smaller than most Power Supply Units (PSUs) in its class. The V series family is available in V550, V650, V750, V850, V1000 and V1200 watt variants perfect for gamers, enthusiasts and even system builders.” – Cooler Master

The V750 uses a unique 3D circuit design, Cooler Master’s own Silencio FP fan technology, fully modular flat cables, 100% Japanese capacitors and much more. The overall quality is reflected in the fact that this tidy, 150 x 140 x 86, form factor still delivers 750W of power at an 80 Plus Gold efficiency

There are three models available, the 550W, 650W and the 750W. We have the 750W at our disposal today, but all models come with 100-240Vac, good active PFC, >100,000 hours MTBF and are backed up by a reassuring 5-year warranty.

The box is very similar to previous Cooler Master designs and features a nice picture of the PSU, as well as a quick run down of the major features; 750W, Japanese Capacitors, 5-year warranty, Silencio fan and 80 Plus Gold.

Around the back, a run-down of the included cables and performance, but we’ll take a closer look at those ourselves in a moment.

In the box, you’ll find a nice cable storage bag, a collection of cable ties, four mounting screws and the mains adaptor.

Enermax DIGIFANLESS 550W Power Supply Review

Introduction & Packaging

The latest Enermax power supply landed in the eTeknix officer recently and while I admit, it can sometimes be difficult to get excited about a power supply, I am very much so about this one. The DIGIFANLESS packs two important features, as the name would suggest; it’s fanless and it is digital. Fanless power supplies are an incredible addition to your system, especially if you’re trying to build a completely silent rig, as the removal of the fan means you’ll never hear a single noise from the unit and that’s certainly no bad thing!

Despite being passively cooled, the DIGIFANLESS still promises to churn out two very impressive figures. The first is that it’ll run up to 550W, which is more than enough for a single GPU system and a powerful CPU. The second is that it will deliver 80 Plus Platinum rated levels of efficiency. Let’s just recap, digital monitoring, passive cooled silent performance, 80 Plus Platinum, 550W of power and if that’s not enough to open your eyes wide, he’s the classic “but that’s not all” sales pitch. It also has fully modular, has individually braided premium grade cables, all Japanese capacitors, is rated to run 24/7 and comes with a 5-year warranty! Enough dancing around, let’s jump right in and take a closer look!

The packaging is really nicely designed, giving a good rundown of the specifications and I’m already getting a nice “premium” vibe here.

Around the back, a nice run down of all the cables, the digi features, the high-quality capacitors and more.

Normally the packaging isn’t something I talk about too much, but the DIGIFANLESS was so well packaged, I just had to take a quick picture.

In the box, you’ll find the mains power cable, the digital link cable, the owner’s manual and a protective storage bag.

The latest Toughpower DPS G Series is an innovative 80 PLUS Gold certified and digitally-controlled power supply, ranging from 450W and up to 1050W. It is also compatible with the DPSApp software.

After receiving favourable reviews and feedbacks from many friends of media and associates on DPS Series last year, Thermaltake decided to expand the series with a much more reasonable price.

The new DPS G series with the aid of DPSApp Software not only provides the system with clean and stable power, it also creates an intelligent platform that allows users to monitor and record the status of power consumption, voltage distribution and the electricity cost for advance usage.

Out of all the PSU monitoring software applications, Thermaltake DPSApp is the most powerful, flexible, universal and easy-to-use supreme monitoring tool to have on the market.

The power supplies use 100% 105°C Japanese brand electrolytic capacitors and are Haswell Ready. For convenience all cables are modular on all models, 450W, 550W, 650W, 750W, 850W and 1050W. No word on pricing yet.

Enermax Display Their Latest Digifanless PSU At CES 2014

We stopped by the Enermax suite at CES 2014 to see what new products they had on offer to the consumer market, and one thing that caught our eye was the new Platimax 1350W power supply. With enough power for even the most extreme systems, whether gaming, mining or rendering, the Platimax will certainly be man enough for the job. It offers, as the name suggests, a platinum efficiency level and a fully modular design for those worries about cable management.

While the Platimax is an extreme product, the one that really grabbed our attention was the Digifanless 550W power supply that as the name suggests is completely fanless, and therefore completely silent. The other aspect of the name gives us an insight into what the PSU can really do for us as a consumer, and that is of course because it is digital. This means that through the supplied USB connector, you can monitor the PSU’s efficiency, power draw and voltages on the rails. They had one of these units hooked up to a complete system and this was only pulling around 350W at 100% load and of course does have a platinum efficiency.

Will you end up buying one of these power supplies for your system?
