Lexar Introduce World’s Fastest SDXC UHS-II and CFast 2.0 Memory Cards

There is no doubt that we all want smaller and faster storage for our gadgets. One of the areas where fast storage is a prime factor is video and photo capturing. With the ever-increasing Mega Pixels captured at ever-increasing frame rates, now also at 360 degrees and 3D, you need some serious storage to keep up. Lexar has been a busy little beaver and built a full row of new memory cards and flash drives that should satisfy those needs and that will become available for purchase later this year.

SD cards are one of the most used form factors when it comes to memory cards and Lexar’s new 128GB Professional 2000x SDXC UHS-II card would be great in any device. The Ultra High Speed II, UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) specification allows the 2000x SDXC card to quickly capture and transfers extended lengths of 4K, 1080p full-HD, and 3D video, as well as high-quality images. The new 128GB capacity card offers read transfer speeds up to 300MB per second and write speeds up to 260MB per second. The Lexar 128GB Professional 2000x SDXC UHS-II card will be available in October with an MSRP of £224.99, but that includes a lifetime warranty and lifetime copy of Image Rescue software.

“By delivering the fastest SDXC memory card with the highest capacity available on the market, Lexar is focused on providing professional videographers and photographers with the necessary tools to perform at new levels,” said Steffi Ho, product marketing manager, Lexar. “Demand for cinematography-grade video and images requires the ability to shoot, store, and transfer more content than ever on a single card, and the 128GB Lexar Professional 2000x SDXC empowers professionals to meet those demands.”

If the 2000x still doesn’t provide enough storage space and speed for you, then you’ll need to look at the CFast 2.0 card series of Lexar that just got two new additions, the Lexar Professional 3600x CFast 2.0 card and the Lexar Professional 3500x CFast 2.0 card. Both cards are perfect for 4K video and beyond with a performance of up to 540MB/s for the 3600x and 525MB/s for the 3500x.

The Lexar Professional 3600x CFast 2.0 card will be available in 256GB and 128GB capacities, and it is specifically optimised for ARRI cameras. The Lexar Professional 3500x CFast 2.0 memory card will be available in capacities ranging from 32GB to 256GB.

The Lexar Professional 3600x CFast 2.0 card has MSRPs of £739.99 (256GB) and £394.99 (128GB). The Lexar Professional 3500x CFast 2.0 card has MSRPs of £739.99 (256GB), £394.99(128GB), £213.99 (64GB) and £129.99 (32GB). That’s not cheap, but you get the best.

These are some serious memory cards and the fastest of their kind. Well done Lexar. How well do your current memory cards compare to these specs? Time for an upgrade?

GALAX Enters the SSD Market with New Gamer Series SSD

GALAX is a company mostly know for the graphics cards, but now they’re venturing into the storage market with their new Gamer series solid state drives. The new drives are powered by the JMicron Heracles SATA III controller and boosted by an SLC Cache Auto-Release which streamlines the data pipeline and prevents cache bottlenecks.

The new SSDs are created with both high-end desktop PCs and notebooks in mind and excel at both random read/write operations for multitasking and sequential operation for fast loading times; two things a gamer wants. Other features include a high physical durability and 2 million hours MTBF, built-in wear leveling and Error Correct Code (ECC) to ensure that the data remains secure and transfers reliable even after years of heavy use.

The performance of the Gamer SSD is pretty good with sequential read and write speed of 540 and 480 MB/s respectively. Random 4K read and write performance is rated to 74,000 and 76,000 IOPS.

The GALAX Gamer SSD follows the form factor of most solid state drives with a 7mm height and comes is 2.5-inch big. “Demonstrations have shown the GALAX Gamer Series to have among the lowest power consumption of any drive in their class during even the most intense activity, with power usage practically nil during idle.” That sounds pretty good and the Gamer series SSD could be amazing for improving both performance and battery life of your notebook simultaneously.

The new GALAX Gamer SSD are available now as a 120GB model for $59.99 and 240GB model for $104.99 directly at GALAX. I couldn’t find it available in Europe at the time of writing.
