MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition Finally Available

It’s been a while since we were first teased by MSI with their amazing looking Z79S SLI Krait Edition motherboard. Some might have forgotten about it in all of the recent news and reviews surround the Intel X99 chipset and CPU’s, Nvidia GTX 980 and iPhone 6 launch, so it’s time to bring it back to the light.

It’s been the number one request from the modding community for a while; we want more and different colour schemes. Red and Black, while a great combo, has been done to much and by everyone. Other than this, there aren’t that many colour choices, with some blue, some orange, but no black’n’white up until now. MSI dare to be different.

Just a couple of hours ago, MSI announced via their Facebook page that the motherboard is finally available. I couldn’t find any shops that carry it yet, so I guess they mean it’s available for the distributors and retailers to order. Still, it’s getting very close and I can almost hear how every modder in the world is getting anxious and excited with the prospect of this motherboard. The fantasies and modding ideas are starting to run wild, and it has to be channelled into something productive very soon.

The PCB is beautiful on it’s own; a black finish everywhere in combination with the white PCI express and RAM slots. The white accents on the chipset and VRM coolers increases the depth of the otherwise simple layout.

The board isn’t shy on functions either. It supports the 4th and 5th Geneneration Intel Core Pentium and Celeron processors for the LGA 1150 socket. It has four memory slots that support up to DDR3-3300 (OC) on a dual channel setup. Further it has two PCI-E x16 Gen3 slots (16,0) (8,8) and three PCIe x1. For the legacy support it has two normal PCI slots as well. Of course this board supports both SLI and CrossFire for your fancy multi-GPU setups.

There is plenty of options for storage as well with six SATA3 ports that can run in RAID 0/1/5/10, one SATA Express and one M.2 port. It has a total of six USB 3.0 and six USB 2.0 ports as well as a Realtek 8111G Gigabit LAN and Realtec ALC892 7.1 surround-sound chip. The iGPU supports VGA, HDMI and DVI output with multi-monitor support and a maximum shared memory of 1760 MB. I doubt many people will use the iGPU on a board like this, but it’s still nice to have the option.

It uses the Military Class 4 components for increased lifespan and decreased power consumption and has circuit protection for CPU and USB devices. The OC Genie 4 helps with easy overclocking at the push of a button. It also has the Click BIOS 4, the latest in MSI’s UEFI BIOS.

Are you hooked on this board too? Then head over to our forums for a view of not one, but two amazing looking mods with this motherboard. The first is the MSI Krait Edition Case Mod by Jesse Palacio and the second is Kraitskin by CalegaR1. Both mods were posted by our good friend RawZ from MSI.

Biostar Hi-Fi B85S2G LGA1150 Motherboard Revealed

Biostar are back with their latest motherboard based around the Intel B85 single-chip architecture. The new Hi-Fi B85S2G motherboard supports Intel’s latest 4th generation Core i7 and Core i5 processors (LGA 1150).

The new board is aimed at the professional market, ideally for businesses and small firms who need business rich features and a very competitive price to keep their budgets in line. Although the new board is still consumer friendly, and may even prove popular with those who still mine virtual currency thanks to its plentiful selection of PCI-E slots.

All the popular features are here too, including dual gigabit LAN, including load balancing to allow much better networking capabilities. 100% solid capacitors, Intel RST, and most importantly Intel Small Business Advantage for added security.

The Hi-Fi B85S2G comes with support for Direct3D 11.1, HDMI, Blu-ray audio DRM and provides the higher audio output of 24 bit/ 192KHz rather than the 16 bit/ 48KHz from typical motherboards. They’re also Windows 8 ready and have BIOSTAR’s BIO-Remote2 and BIOS Online Update feature for easy management of the system BIOS as well as BIOSTAR’s Charger Booster function.

More details and prices will likely follow soon, but given their target market we expect them to be very competitive.

MSI Announces The H81M-E35 V2 Motherboard

MSI has released the H81M-E35 V2 motherboard, an M-ATX board featuring a LGA 1150 socket and support for Intel’s Haswell processors. The main feature of this motherboard is its Military Class 4 components, having Humidity Protectionm ESD Protection EMI Protection and High Temperature Protection.

Looking at the motherboard’s technical specs, we can see it has support for the latest 4th generation Intel core (i3, i5, i7), including Pentium and Celeron processors. However, the motherboard has entry-level features due to its two DIMM RAM sockets and the presence of only one PCIe socket. The DDR3 RAM modules can work in dual channel with up to 1600 MHz frequency. Also take into account that its PCIe is 2.0, not 3.0.

Other features consist of two PCIe x1 and one PCI slot for additional components such as NICs, wireless adapters, and so on. In terms of SATA connectors, it has two SATA-III and two SATA-II ports which the user can use to easily install a RAID HDD and SSD configuration using the SATA-III and other peripheral devices such as optical drives with the help of the SATA-II ports.

The back of the motherboard reveals two PS/2 for keyboard and mouse peripherals, although very few keyboards and mice use the PS/2 technology nowadays. The USB configuration is made out of four USB 3.0 ports (with additional support for two more in the front) and two USB 2.0 ports, having the possibility of adding an extra four on the front.

The motherboards NIC is 10/100/1000 Mbps compatible and is controlled by a Realtek RTL8111G chip, while we can also find a Realtek ALC887 chip capable of 7.1 channel support on the motherboard as well. And with an Intel HD graphics processor, the H81M-E35 V2 also provides one HDMI, one DVI and one VGA port having support for 4K UHD display.

MSI is providing the OC Genie 4 for a quick 1 second overclock feature, along with its Command Center tool and Click Bios 4 for easy PC customization and Fast Boot for a quick startup process.

All in all, the MSI H81M-E35 V2 is a handy motherboard, though it is not suited for gaming or overclocking purposes. The price has yet to be announced, though we are expecting it to hit the shelves at a price tag of less than $100.
