ASUSTOR Readying New 4k Capable NAS and New Entry Level Series

There isn’t long time until Computex 2015 takes off and all the big hardware players will be at the event to showcase their latest advances and creations. ASUSTOR is of course one of the companies that will be present at Computex and they’ll present at least two new lines of NAS servers, the 61 Enthusiast Series and the 10 Series for the entry-level market.

ASUSTOR’s 61 Series utilizes the newest high-performance Intel Braswell processors and includes the AS6102T and AS6104T models with 2 and 4 disk bays respectively. Both devices in this series come with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and 4GB memory out of the box. The maximum support amount of memory is 8GB in both models for those who need more than the standard 4GB. Compared with its previous generation, the 61 series feature superior transfer performance and provides smoother multitasking as well as the newly added support for 4K/2K high-resolution video output directly from the NAS. The new 61 series would be perfect to act as both your personal cloud storage as well as a home entertainment hub.

The ASUSTOR 10 Series on the other hand, is a brand new entry-level model. The 10 series was created for the price conscious consumer and it is based on a Marvell processor. It comes with what is called an “eye-catching diamond-plate finish” on the exterior and it is just as easy to use as your personal cloud and file storage as it could be.

I for once can’t wait to find out more about these new NAS series and I’ll make sure to keep you all updated as more information and specifications are released.

QNAP Releases TVS-ECx80+ Edge Cloud Turbo vNAS

At what point do we start to call just call it a server again and not an NAS, that’s a very good question. Qnap sure pushes that line with their latest TVS-ECx80+ series of Edge Cloud Turbo vNAS devices. On devices like this, the term NAS probably more points towards the ease of setup due to the operating system used; one that has been specially tuned to work on this particular hardware.

The new TVS-ECx80+ Turbo vNAS series includes four models so far. The TVS-EC1080+, the TVS-EC1080 and the TVS-EC880 are powered by Intel Xeon E3-1245 v3 processors with 3.4GHZ or above. They offer 10 and 8 bays respectively and the flagship Plus model comes with 32GB DDR3 memory, pre-installed dual 10Gb Ethernet ports and built-in 256GB mSATA modules for a superior performance of up to 2000MB/s throughput and 223K IOPS. The fourth model is the TVS-EC1080-i3 and is based on an Intel Core i3-4150 processor instead of the Xeon.

The new line continues the trend with easy upgradeable memory and in this case also mSATA modules. It runs the latest QTS operating system that features a tablet-style interface with 4K2K UHD video playback and transcoding capabilities, virtualization via QvPC that allows you to run Windows, *nix and Android based VMs directly on the NAS with full keyboard and mouse support as well as 7.1 audio and much more. Server administrators can also manage other Qnap NAS devices through this centralized one, making their job a lot easier.

BenQ Announced the BL3201PH 32-Inch 4K2K IPS Monitor

BenQ has announced their latest monitor designed for CAD/CAM users, the BL3201PH 32-inch monitor with a 4K2K resolution of 3840×2160. While some might argue that this isn’t true 4K2K format, it’s the common term used by the industry itself and the width limitation comes from the 16:9 format instead of 19:10 as the format originally has.

Terminology aside, this looks like a stunning monitor featuring an IPS display with a 100-percent sRGB colour space that renders accurate and true-to-life colours. It has a static contrast of 1000 to 1 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 20 million to 1, 178-degree viewing angles, and a 4ms grey to grey response time. Adjustment features include 150mm height,  -5 to 20 degrees tilt, and 45 degrees swivel in each direction.

One of the unique features of this monitor compared to the average consumer monitor is the CAD/CAM mode that alters the monitor’s colour and contrast settings to view highly detailed graphics information without ever missing a line again. The BL3201PH also got the Solidworks Certification to meet industrial demands for professional design monitors.

There are plenty of connection options on the BL3201PH with a DVI-DL port, two HDMI1.4 ports, a DisplayPport v 1.2, and a mini-DisplayPport 1.2. Audio connections are covered by headphone and line in jacks and it comes with built-in 5W stereo speakers. For the easy connectivity of other devices, it comes with a 5-port USB 3 hub where three ports are on the rear and two on the side.

LG Introduces 31-inch Digital Cinema 4K Monitor

LG has introduced their latest UHD monitor, the 31MU97 31-inch 4K Digital Cinema Monitor. The monitor was previously spotted at IFA Berlin this year, but now the release is official. This new monitor is targeted at content creators rather than consumers, meaning photographers, video editors and graphics artists.

The Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution of 4096×2160 keeps the right aspect ratio for people with this line of work, preventing distortion and misalignment due to the usual used 3840 x 2160 resolution that isn’t a true 4K2K as defined by the standard. Colour accuracy is crucial to content creators and this monitor has a 99.5 percent Adobe RGB colour space. This IPS panel further features the Dual Colour Space that lets the monitor display two different color modes to help in comparing images.

The viewing angle is 178 degrees and the new LG monitor consumes 49W during normal use and 1.2w during sleep. The higher sleep consumption is due to the USB3 hub and charging features. It does however feature a real power button next to the power connection to turn it off. The two built-in 5W speakers are powered by the MAXXAUDIO functions to deliver the best sound at the same time as displaying the best images.

The connectivity to most things should be ensured with two HDMI, three USB 3.0, one Display Port and one mini DisplayPort. There are actually two models of this monitor and the specifications listed here are from the 31MU97-B model found on  LG’s North American site. There is also a version without the B that is listed on the Australian site, and this one also features Thunderbolt connectivity and Mac support.

The new LG 31MU97 should start to become available next week in the US, South Korea, Germany, Australia and UK. The rest of Europe and Japan should follow shortly after. There is no official word on the MSRP yet, but the Thunderbolt model was listed to $2499,99 AUD and the B model without was listed for $1399,99 USD.

Acer’s New 4K2K 28″ G-Sync Gaming Monitor Finally Available

The newest member to the Acer family is finally available, the Acer XB280HK gaming monitor. It is the world’s first 4k2k display featuring Nvidia’s G-Sync technology that provides stunning, ultra-smooth and tear-free imagery, and the best gaming experiences.

It has a spacious 28-inch LED backlit display with a 4k2k Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels). The flicker-less, low dimming and ComfyView technologies should give you one of the best gaming experiences around. After all, you’ll need a really good display to take advantage of the new powerhouse from Nvidia, the GeForce GTX 980.

When coupled with a GeForce powered PC, the G-SYNC technology synchronizes the display’s refresh rates to the GPU, effectively eliminating screen tearing and minimizing stutter and input lag. The result is a more fluent and enjoyable gameplay.

The Acer XB280HK features 170/160 degree viewing angles for optimal viewing. The ErgoStand allows the screen to tilt from -5° to 35° and the base to rotate 120° from left or right. The monitor can also be raised by up to 150 mm to give you just the right viewing angle. If that still isn’t the right setup for you, it allows for both horizontal and vertical pivot for even more viewing perspectives.

Connectivity isn’t the strongest point of this monitor as it only has one DisplayPort for the video signal. It does however have four USB 3.0 ports located at the side and bottom of the display for your keyboard, mouse and other devices.

This isn’t just a great gaming monitor, it’s also eco-friendly. The LED panel is mercury- and arsenic-free and the LED back-lighting has been reduced for lower power consumption. The plastic used is post-consumer recycled.

Priced at just £499.99 inc VAT at our friends from Overclockers UK, this might be just the monitor you need to show off what your brand new GeForce GTX 980 can do.

It includes flicker-less technology that eliminates screen flicker for comfortable viewing through a stable supply of power; the ComfyView display reduces reflection from light sources on the non-glare panel; and low-dimming technology enables brightness settings down to 15 percent in darker environments to reduce eye fatigue, while working in non-optimal lighting conditions.
