Chenbro Debuts RM23624 2U 24-Bay Server Chassis

Do you need a lot of storage? Do you need to achieve superior IOPS performance? Then you should look at Chenbro’s newest system which is called the RM23624 and is a 24-bay 2U rack server. The RM23624 features 24 hot-swappable 2.5-inch drive bays for HDDs or SSDs and a 12Gb/s SAS expander with LSI DataBolt that provides the higher performance and reliability that data centers demand.

Cooling challenges encountered by placing this many hard drives in a 2U chassis are countered through a strong thermal design by experts from Chenbro and their years of experience in the field. The chassis is perfect for enterprise storage, online transaction processing, database servers, and other I/O constrained applications.

Besides the 24 drive bays in the front, the case also features an additional HDD cage that supports two internal 2.5-inch drive bays for your operating system and system software deployment. The server chassis doesn’t just feature a lot of hot-swappable drive bays, the four anti-vibration fans are also easy swappable and so are the redundant power supplies.

You can optionally mount three full height or seven low-profile expansion cards through the PCIe expansion slots on the rear, which gives you even more flexibility for your build.

 

As mentioned earlier, the chassis is designed with optimal airflow and heat ventilation in mind and to be able to provide a reliable thermal structure with its four patented anti-vibration fans with smart speed control configuration. You can mount two more optional 40mm rear fans to achieve the maximum thermal performance in this setup.

Power supply options include a choice of a single power supply or 1+1 redundant power supply for that extra backup and safety.

Gigabyte Presents High-Performance NVMe Servers

NVMe storage is nothing new in the enterprise sector, it is where it started before it became almost affordable for us normal human beings. We get more and more NVMe drives on the market, so the step onto making servers with hot-swappable NVMe drive bays. Gigabyte presented two new servers in this category during the Supercomputing 2015 show in Austin, Texas. The above pictured is the H27N-H70 High-Density NVMe Server and the one picture below is the R18N-F2A 1U 10-bay NVMe server.

The two new server are part of a larger line-up with more systems to come. Compared to SATA III and SAS3 interfaces, NVMe drives bring significantly higher IOPS as well as lower latency and power consumption. The H27N-H70 is a 2U 4-node system with support for Intel’s E5-2600 V3 CPUs and C612 chipset. They support up to 64 RDIMM or LRDIMM modules and you can add up to 8 hot-swappable NVMe drives and eight more SAS/SATA 6Gbps drives. All that is connected through eight Intel I350 controlled Gigabit Ethernet ports and the system is naturally also IPMI 2.0 remote controllable. It features dual 1600W 80 Plus platinum power supplies and has root for four half-length half-height expansion cards as well as 4 mezzanine card slots.

The R18N-F2A  is only a 1U server, but it still features 10 drive bays. It is however only two of those that are NVMe bays and the last eight are SAS/SATA 6Gbps bays. The server also works on a Xeon E5-2600 V3 base and can support up to 24 RDIMM or LRDIMMs. You can expand the system with two half-length full-height and one half-length low-profile expansion card or a mezzanine card instead. This server also features dual 80 Plus Platinum rated PSUs, but only 800W models. It has two Gigabit Ethernet ports controlled by Intel’s I350 and also feature IPMI 2.0 remote management and iKVM.

ASRock Rack 2U & 3U Server Solution Supports the Latest NVIDIA GRID 2.0

Nvidia recently released their GRID 2.0 at the VMWorld and ASRock Rack now announced that their 2U and 3U server solutions support just this. Nvidia GRID 2.0 is a big step up as it delivers double the application performance as well as double the user density over the previous version. Not only that, it also offers support for Linux OS and blade servers to provide unprecedented speed and efficiency for virtualized graphics. Users can work from almost anywhere with virtually no delays and thereby increase their productivity. IT departments can equip workers with instant access to powerful applications, improving resource allocation. And data can be stored more securely by residing in a central server rather than individual systems.

The two ASRock Rack solution compatible with the new GRID 2.0 are the 2U2N-F and the 3U8G-C612 and both are configurable with four to eight GPU cards; and four are the recommended minimum. Next to the up-to-eight Tesla M60 GPUs, the server units also feature numerous other PCIe slots for further expansion and acceleration by PCIe SSDs, Remote Direct Memory Access by SFP+ or InfiniBand, NVR or facial recognition systems by capture cards and much more.

ASRock Rack fans might have noticed that the mentioned 2U2N-F is a new rack unit. The 2U rack-mounted server features eight 2.5-inch HDD bays and redundant 1600W Platinum PSU. The server supports Intel Xeon E5-2600/4600 series with a TDP of up to 120W and narrow-type CPU cooler. The eight DIMM slots support up to 2133MHz and you’ll also get an ASpeed AST2400 onboard graphic solution with dedicated Realtek IPMI network connection. The 2U2N-F is definitely worth a closer look if you’re about to set up a new powerful virtualization system or plan to upgrade the old.

Synology Announces RackStation RS2416+ and RS2416RP+ NAS

Synology unveiled their newest rackmounted NAS dubbed the RS2416+ and RS2416RP+ that features a redundant PSU. The 12-bay NAS can easily be expanded on the fly for up to 24 drives and should bring a good performance thanks to great hardware.

The Synology RS2416+ is equipped with a quad-core Atom C2538 CPU and comes with built-in AES-NI hardware encryption engine, and 2GB RAM that is expandable up to 6GB. The NAS comes with four Gigabit Ethernet ports that support failover and Link Aggregation as well as two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports.

The RS2416+ supports the Btrfs file system and offers metadata mirroring and checksums that guarantee a higher level of data availability and survivability. Snapshots can be automatically captured as frequently as every five minutes, allowing businesses to go back in time and recover previous versions of files and folders. You can set it to retain up to 256 daily, weekly, or monthly snapshots when equipped with expanded memory.

Both the RS2416+ and the RS2416RP+ with redundant PSU are now shipping globally. The MSRP for the RS2416+ is set to £1290 inc VAT and €1380 before taxes. The RS2416RP+ UK MSRP is £1620 inc VAT and €1825 before taxes.

Thecus Launches Next Generation N7770-10G and N8880U-10G NAS

Thecus is at it again and has released two new NAS units, the N7770-10G 7-bay desktop NAS and the N8880U-10G 8-bay rack mounted 2U NAS. Both NAS are almost identical on the insides, so it basically comes down to the environment of operation when deciding which of the two to pick. The newest additions to Thecus’ line of SMB/Enterprise NAS deliver high-performance, resilience, and a wide range of solutions to handle the rigorous and mission-critical storage needs of businesses.

The two new Thecus NAS are both equipped with the Intel Core-i3 2120 Processor with a clock speed of 3.3GHz and 8GB DDR3 ECC memory. You’ll get two RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports and on top of that you’ll find a 10GBASE-T C10GTR Ethernet Network card installed for that extra bandwidth need. Local ports further include six USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI port, and VGA D-Sub port. Both units also come with a status display with four control buttons.

The N7770-10G unit comes with a single 300W power supply, which should be more than enough to drive a machine of this kind. On the other hand, The N8880-10G has a redundant setup with two 400W power supplies. The N8880-10G, being a rack mounted system, also supports hot-swapping of fans next to the hot swapping of drives that all NAS can do.

The new N7770-10G and N8880-10G NAS units from Thecus are designed as a cost-effective and scalable solution. These 10G-enabled NAS are compatible with the latest high capacity SATA drives and NAS stacking is made easy through iSCSI target volumes.

Availability without interruption is a critical factor in many companies, every minute a unit like this is down could cost a lot of money. In order to prevent server downtime, the N7770-10G and N8880U-10G support High Availability (HA). In HA, two Thecus NAS are continuously synced using Heartbeat software while providing any number of its wide range of services including web hosting, file sharing, central storage, and iSCSI virtualization. If one NAS experiences issues, the other NAS will take over operations until the first is operational at which time the master NAS will be automatically resynced and brought back under the umbrella of full HA protection.

There are plenty of other backup solutions as well, such as B-tree file system (btrfs). Disaster recovery solutions include Data Guard for real-time remote or local backup, bundled Acronis True Image for client data backup and system disaster recovery, and backup to cloud services including DropBox, ElephantDrive, and Amazon S3.The 10G NAS are also bundled with Intel Security for uncompromising data security.

Thecus Release N8900PRO 8-Bay 2U Rackmount NAS

Thecus announced the expansion of its rackmount NAS line-up with the new N8900PRO rack-mounted NAS. The N8900PRO is built around an Intel Xeon E3-1275 quad-core processor with 3.4GHz and comes equipped with 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM. The NAS features 8 SAS and SATA compatible storage bays as well as USB 3.0 and eSATA ports and that should provide plenty of storage opportunities. The NAS also offers an AES-NI hardware encryption engine to provide enterprises with everything the need right out of the box.

The N8900PRO features redundant 500W (or more) power supplies, three Intel 82574L powered RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports with seven modes of link aggregation and optionally 10GbE NIC. There are six USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports as well as one eSATA port. The storage is controlled by an LSI 2008 HBA card that supports eight 6Gbit SAS/SATA ports. The LSI RAID controller also brings long the rest of the RAID modes that you wouldn’t find otherwise such as 50 and 60. You don’t get that from the Intel chipset.

Thecus’ N8900PRO is also very scalable through Daisy Chaining technology and iSCSI Thin Provisioning, allowing users to achieve up to 576TB raw storage. The NAS supports all relevant filesystems such as ext3, ext4, Btrfs, and XFS with flexibility over numerous RAID volumes. It’s compatible with VMware, Microsoft, and Citrix virtualization solutions as well as Thecus Heartbeat software that allows two NAS to communicate and ensure that your data is online at all times.
