More Hints Regarding Bioshock Collection on PS4 and Xbox One

We all have those games which you just feel like picking up every now and again to see how you can play it differently, or just to immerse yourself in their world again. One of those games series if the Bioshock series for many. A few months we reported on the fact that a “Bioshock Collection” could be coming to Xbox One and Playstation 4, it would now seem that more information is coming forward with a Brazillian rating board listing a similar title.

With the title of “BIOSHOCK: THE COLLECTION”, the games are listed for release on PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the latest generation of consoles in the form of a Playstation 4 and Xbox One release. With re-releases being the rage these days, bundling together games, their DLC’s and more often than not a graphics update, we could soon see you playing the games in a whole new light.

With games like Gears of War getting HD remakes  amongst a slew of gameplay features, is it really that surprising that 2K games are looking at one of their more famous franchises to kick some life into their company following 2K Australia closure.

Would you buy (or even re-buy) the Bioshock games? If you did what platform would you choose? Personally, I love the games but unless it featured something that the previous games didn’t, I would just replay the originals for their amazing storylines.

Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Receive Giant Patches

Developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K games, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are some of the most enjoyable first-person-shooter RPG’s ever created. Even though both of these games came out quite some time ago (2012 for Borderlands 2 and 2014 for The Pre-Sequel), the games are still receiving plenty of attention from both players and developers. A little birdie told us that the two titles have received two massive patches, which include various balances, tweaks and fixes that are meant to ensure very smooth and glitch-free gaming experiences. Some of the most important changes include the re-implementation of SHiFT connectivity for Steam users on OS X El Capitan, as well as permanent hot-fixes for a generous number of quests.

It definitely looks like the developers have been hard at work to perfect both of these titles, and that’s always commendable as other companies just prefer to leave things as they are and focus on creating new games instead. I finished both of these Borderlands games and I enjoyed my time spent with each one, but those of you who never got a chance to try them out should definitely go ahead and play them now. Below you will find a full list of patch notes for Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Apple Moves Closer to the Gaming Market

We know that Apple’s hardware, especially its OS X operating system, was not designed with gaming in mind. This is why gamers and developers alike chose Windows and its DirectX when it comes to graphics, but Apple seems to want a piece of the gaming market too and this was clearly shown today at their Worldwide Developer Conference.

If you are familiar with last year’s WWDC, then you know all about the company’s Metal API. If you don’t, then you should know that the latter is Apple’s gaming platform previously announced for their iOS devices. However, this year the company wants to integrate it into their latest OS X too.

Dubbed El Capitan, Apple’s latest OS X 10.11 seems to move closer than ever to the gaming market, bringing 10x rendering performance compared to their previous OS X. To demonstrate El Capitan’s potential, they brought Epic Games to show everyone how gaming can be made possible on low-level graphics performance.

Also, Epic Games is not the only company to back Apple’s decision. Metal seems to be endorsed by other big name gaming companies such as 2K Games, Blizzard, and Unity. The companies have announced that they will be integrating Apple’s Metal API into their engines, which means we can look forward to more titles coming to Apple’s OS next year.

Havok Technology To Power BioShock on iOS

BioShock, the iconic story-driven shooter from 2K Games is heading to the App Store later this summer for iOS devices. The game is now confirmed to be running on Havok technology to provide animation and physics processing for the game.

When the game was launched back in 2007, developer Irrational Games used the still popular Unreal Engine 3, combined with extensive use of Havok’s Animation tools, something that added (for the time) unprecedented levels of animation and fluid motion to the games inhabitants. The addition of Havok Physics really brought the games abilities to life too, with things like the Telekenesis Plasmid allowing to send environment decals and enemies flying around the level.

Now the 2K China team are working to bring the title to mobile devices using Havok’s cross-platform toolset, allowing them to achieve parity between console and mobile versions of the game, including the full dynamic range of gameplay elements that made the original so great, without having to make any sacrifices.

“It’s a true testament to the power and breadth of Havok Physics and Havok Animation Studio that these technologies have seamlessly transitioned from a AAA console title to an amazing mobile experience,” said Brian Waddle, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Havok. “Just as BioShock redefined the scope of what a game could and should be, the 2K Games team has proven that mobile devices can go beyond simple apps and offer a wholly mature and complete gaming experience akin to those seen on high end gaming platforms.”

Release date hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, but we suspect some time around Gamescom or just after would be a safe guess, no later than the end of September.

San Francisco’s 2K Studio Reportedly Working On A Mafia 3 Game From Scratch

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was one of the games that revolutionised the gaming industry back in September 2002 when it first got launched. It emerged you in a unique experience of the Mafia world in the ’30 era, full of thrilling chase episodes, interesting plot and exceptional mix of characters. It also introduced a few environmental features, such as speed limit and the ability for cops to properly cope with law offences.

Then in 2010, eight years later, the second part was released, packed with newer graphics and physics engines, having the same expected outcome as the first. It even had the mission which linked the two games, namely the mission to kill Thomas Angelo, the first Mafia’s main character.

We now hear that there is a Mafia 3 in the works, but it however will not be developed by 2K Czech as Mafia II. There are rumors that even a few members from 2K Marin have followed Rod Fergusson, the head of 2K Studio over in San Francisco, to the new studio as well as others from 2K Czech. The reports state that 2K San Francisco will start from scratch on the new Mafia 3 project. They have no intention of using what the Czech studio developed for Mafia 2.

Regarding the fate of 2K Czech, nobody knows for sure. There had been some layoffs back in 2011 as Fudzilla reports and the exact number of people still in the Czech HQ is not known. They say that the layoffs were due to the studio not being able to deliver another Mafia 3 project before its deadline. However, concrete information has been released on the Mafia 3 attempt, neither on the actual rumor of the Mafia 3 development in San Francisco.

Grand Theft Auto V Gets More Screenshots

We’ve been covering quite a lot of Grand Theft Auto V news in the past year or so. If you’ve missed any we encourage you check it out here as quite a lot has happened. Grand Theft Auto V wasn’t present at E3 but Rockstar Games are trying to grab a bit of the limelight by putting out nine new screenshots of the game.

For those of you who aren’t aware, Grand Theft Auto V is inbound for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17th. We feel sales might be hindered a bit as people hold out for the next generation console version. A PC version is apparently coming, though it may take a while longer and may be launched later alongside the next generation (Xbox One and PlayStation 4) console version.

The new images can be seen below and they show various car/boat chases, firefights, plane flying and just general awesomeness.

Let us know what you think about the upcoming GTA V game from Rockstar Games.

Grand Theft Auto V Will Be Absent From E3 2013 Says 2K Games

2K Games is a publishing partner with Rockstar games and according to 2K Games big upcoming titles like Grand Theft Auto V and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will not be unveiled at E3 2013 this June.

Out of those two GTA V is clearly the most anticipated and millions of cross-platform Gamers are eagerly awaiting its release. 2K Games has reiterated its message about not attending E3 2013 confirming it will not be bringing any high profile titles – although this does not mean they won’t be released.

E3 attendees should not expect to play GTA V or The Bureau: XCOM Declassified but 2K Games will focus their marketing efforts “elsewhere” in order to promote these two games. In essence this means 2K Games are ditching E3 2013 as a marketing platform and will probably choose to “go at it alone” by creating their own media events for these particular games.

We don’t know whether this E3 withdrawal has any implications for the release date of these two games but as far as we can see it doesn’t, it is just an experimentation with different ways to market a game launch.

So if you are going/were going to go to E3 for GTA V, you will be disappointed.

What are your thoughts on this news?
