Cyberpower Infinity X55 Pro Gaming PC Review

Introduction


Cyberpower is one of most respected system integrators worldwide and quickly gained a superb reputation for their commitment to impeccable customer service. The company’s vast buying power means consumers can choose from a massive range of components and construct a system which suits their individual requirements. This level of flexibility is astounding and ensures the end-user receives a product with the best possible specification. Upgrades are listed using high-resolution images and include a brief outline of the pricing variation when selecting various parts. Of course, there are pre-configured options with a default configuration to help simplify the buying process. Cyberpower’s slick website manages to catch your imagination and become fascinated by the company’s custom PC range.

The latest PC to arrive for review purposes is the Cyberpower Infinity X55 Pro sporting an Intel i5-6660K processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM and XFX AMD Radeon R9 390 8GB. Cyberpower has utilised the Corsair H55 all-in-one CPU cooler to achieve a hefty 4.5GHz overclock. In terms of storage, there’s a high-performance 240GB SSD and 1TB mechanical disk. The Corsair VS 650W is a non-modular 80 plus white power supply with enough wattage to easily cope with demanding applications. This impressive specification is housed in the extremely unusual Corsair 600C chassis. Priced at £999, I’m fascinated to see the performance numbers in relation to other products under the £1000 mark.

Packing and Accessories

The system arrives in a humongous outer box which offers exceptional protection during transit. More specifically, the thick cardboard adds rigidity and prevents the system from encountering cosmetic imperfections. On another note, the fragile notice instructs the courier to adopt a careful approach when handling the package.

Once opened, the main chassis box is held in place with supporting foam inserts and the accessories box. As a result, the unit shouldn’t move around in a brash manner.

Prior to turning on the system, a precautionary label is used to cover the power supply and inform the user to remove any internal packaging.

Here we can the huge array of protective inserts which cushions the key components from any sudden impact during delivery. These are absolutely essential additions to ensure the system arrives safely and without any cables being misaligned. Honestly, I’d prefer Cyberpower to use a foam pack instead because of the harder material and more secure positioning.

The system is bundled with a handy troubleshooting guide, component documentation, driver’s disk, PCI brackets where the GPU has been installed, power cord and SLI bridge. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting guide was placed underneath the chassis box which led to some hefty creases.

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 2400MHz 16GB (2x8GB) Dual Channel Memory Kit Review

Introduction


The overwhelming majority of gaming builds revolve around a red and black colour scheme which makes it relatively difficult for hardware manufacturers to produce other colours in large numbers. Any niche section of the market isn’t prioritized as companies attempt to maximize sales and cater to the mainstream customer. On the other hand, white components have become more popular in recent years and look absolutely stunning. For example, the ASUS Sabertooth Mark S compliments the Avexir Sabranco memory in a beautiful way. Sadly, it’s pretty rare to see memory kits with a white PCB especially on the DDR4 platform.

One of the more affordable DDR4 memory kits comes from Crucial and even implements a gorgeous white PCB! Crucial’s LT branding is slightly confusing as the DIMMs utilize an identical specification to the standard Sport range. The only difference is the revised heatspreader design. This particular memory kit operates at 2400MHz, and requires 1.2V. Additionally, the timings are fairly tight for DDR4 at 16-16-16-39 but this is to be expected compared to higher frequency alternatives.

The memory kit comes in a traditional blister pack and outlines the key specification. I also found it quite easy to remove the modules without applying too much force.

A Closer Look

Here we can see the aesthetically pleasing heatspreaders which adopt a low profile design to enhance compatibility with large air coolers. More specifically, the modules measure 40mm in height and you shouldn’t experience any clearance issues. From a visual standpoint, the white PCB, central Ballistix logo and retro-inspired decal looks phenomenal. Additionally, the edges feature a textured finish which enhances the memory’s unique appearance. I’m also quite fond of the stylish cutouts which are easily visible once the DIMMs have been installed.

Apacer Unveils Panther Series DDR4 Memory

Since the release of Intel’s Skylake architecture, the price of DDR4 memory has come down at an exponential rate. Additionally, manufacturers are creating more lavish aesthetic designs to suit the gaming market. Typically, consumers chose memory based on a colour scheme as gaming tasks increased frequency has a minimal effect. Unfortunately, most companies appear to fixate on the standard red and black theme and it can be difficult to acquire DDR4 modules which suit yellow motherboards like the ASRock Formula series. Thankfully, Apacer has launched the Panther memory kits to provide a visually unique design which fits perfectly with motherboards sporting yellow or gold accents. In terms of its technical specifications, the memory comes in 2133MHz, 2400MHz and 2666MHz configurations with tight 15-15-15-36 and 16-16-16-36 timings. Furthermore, the DIMMs support XMP 2.0 and utilize 1.2 volts. This guarantees stability at low voltages and doesn’t require a boost to 1.35v.

While it’s not the fastest memory on the market, as many DDR4 kits reach speeds in excess of 3000MHZ, it’s still extremely fast and I love the colour scheme. Additionally, the black PCB adds to the overall look and makes for a superb finish. Hopefully, we should be bringing a review of this particular memory kit very soon.

PNY Unveils Anarchy X DDR4 Memory

Intel’s Skylake architecture and Z170 chipset have made DDR4 an affordable proposition and no longer exclusive to the enthusiast platform. As a result, high bandwidth, DDR4 pricing dropped quite significantly in recent months and legitimately rivaled the pricing of DDR3. The advantages of DDR4 includes higher frequencies and reduced voltage. Today, PNY announced the Anarchy X DDR4 modules which comes in a variety of capacities and speeds.

The DIMMs vary between 2400MHz to 2800MHz with a CAS latency of CL16 at 1.2V and utilize high-quality ICs. On another note, the XLR8 heat spreaders look fantastic and should accompany a red and black gaming theme extraordinarily well. In terms of pricing, the 16GB (4×4) configuration has a recommend retail price of £139 including VAT. This emphasizes how affordable high-capacity memory is becoming and it will be interesting to see the prices of DDR3 as more customers migrate to Skylake.

Unfortunately, Intel’s latest offering is currently quite poor value-for-money due to supply issues but CPUs should drop in price once sales reduce and stock increases. Additionally, AMD’s Zen architecture could apply pressure on Intel to offer more attractive pricing for consumers.

Apacer Releases 64GB 3000MHz NOX DDR4 SO-DIMM

The times where the best hardware was limited to desktop PCs is long over and we can get all that power in portable units today too, may it be high-end i7 CPUs or multiple graphics card solutions. All this raw power also needs some memory and Apacer’s latest offering might come in handy here. The newly released Apacer NOX DDR4 modules take all that goodness and brings it down to the smaller SO-DIMM form factor.

The new Apacer NOX DDR4 SO-DIMMs are available with an impressive capacity of 64GB and speeds of up to 3000MHz while only consuming 1.2V. This is so far the most impressive and highest capacity SO-DIMM on the market. The NOX DDR4 SO-DIMM series also comes in slower speeds for those who don’t need as much. Other options include 2400, 2666, and 2800MHz.

The modules have all undergone strict testing and have been built with handpicked DRAM IC to create the best possible product. Apacer did not reveal the pricing at this point, but that will follow at the end of this month. Whether the availability will be at the same time is anyone’s guess. We will just have to wait and see. Either way, this is a seriously impressive memory module.

GALAX Hall Of Fame DDR3 Memory Modules Officially Released

GALAX is well-known for their graphics cards and recently they also ventured into the space of storage with their new Gamer SSDs. This time GALAX is reaching into the memory department and release a new set of DDR3 memory modules in the Hall Of Fame (HOF) series.

The new memory modules feature a huge heatsink with aluminium fins (1.5mm thickness unilateral and 3mm bilateral). They modules are hardened against corrosion, anodised, sandblasted, and look great.

The new memory modules are released as 2400MHz kits in either single 4GB or 8GB dual-channel kits, coming with timings of 11-13-13-30.

This memory chips are made by SKhynix and are well-known and liked by enthusiasts for their reliability and performance and easily clock up to 2600-2933MHz.

A high-end computer part needs LEDs these days, for some reason. So GALAX also added LED strips on the top of the heat spreaders to light it up.

It doesn’t look bad tho with the lighting and I could see this look good in many systems and mods.

There’s also a video available demonstrating the new modules, but it is located on a Chinese video site. It worked fine for me while writing this article, but that’s not guaranteed to be the same everywhere.

Overclockers UK First to List the New ADATA DDR4 Memory

 

Some companies take new hardware releases very serious and want to offer their customers the entire range as soon as possible. Overclockers UK is one of them and they are now the first to list the new ADATA XPG Z1 DDR4 modules.

The ADATA XPG Z1 comes in a variety of speeds and sizes. The available sets range from 16GB to 32GB and are all 4 module quad channel kits. So it’s either four times 4GB or four times 8GB modules. Overclockers UK Add RipJaws and Exclusive Avexir DDR4 Modules to Lineup

Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 2400MHz 8GB Memory Kit Review

Late last year we had a look at the then latest addition to the HyperX lineup of memory kits with the Predator 8GB 2666MHz kit with top end speeds and kits that ranged right up to 32GB in capacity and in their latest addition, Kingston have got a new line of kits to add to the collection, but they’re not quite what we’d call new under the surface.  Whilst the Beast kits bear a new suit of black heat spreaders, the memory that lies underneath is taken from the Predator kits, however these kits only range up to 2400MHz whilst packing capacities right up to 64GB and lies upon a black PCB the match the heat spreaders.

The new Beast kit lies in between the Genesis and Predator kits in grand scheme of things now giving nine different memory types to choose from and this is the next to top end kit to chose from the entire lineup so I’m looking to see some good performance figures from the kit as I work to put it through its paces.

The black heat spreaders do extend above the PCB which is something that is only seen otherwise on the Predator Hyper X kit and this can cause some compatibility issues with some heat sinks, but with more people moving towards closed loop water cooling options and heat sink manufacturers, addressing the compatibility with items that now clear more kits, this is less of a problem that it once used to be.

Enabling the X.M.P. profile we can see the Hyper X beast uses an average set of timings at 11-13-13-30 with a moderate 2T command rate whilst running at the top specified sped of 2400MHz.

After CPU-Z had confirmed our settings had been applied, we fired up AIDA64 to check the stock performance of the memory on our Z77 motherboard.

At stock the HyperX beast gives a rather average set of bandwidth results of 21209MBs/ read, 18800MB/s write and 23173MB/s copy with a good latency of 35.3ns. We’ve seen before that overclocking does have a good impact on memory write speeds so there is good scope for unleashing some hidden performance with minimal effort.

Keeping the kit at its stock timings to start, the first step is to overclock the CPU to 4.5GHz to open up some extra headroom within the memory controller and allow the memory to overclock more freely. From there the next step is to raise the memory divider to 2600MHz and with a successful boot the next divider 2666Mz resulted in a series of boot loops – not too surprising considering this speed is getting to the limits of what our CPU can handle. Working on the 2600Mz divider, the BCLK was the next port of call, however with the memory restricted to stock timings, there was no extra speed to be found.

As expected from overclocking,  the write speed sees the greatest improvement in bandwidth, rising up to 21305MB/s. The read speed also sees a reasonable gain up to 23495MB/s whilst the copy stays fairly close to stock at 23238MB/s. There’s also a good drop in latency down to 32.5ns.

Following a good overclock at stock timings, its time to let the motherboard take the leash on the timings as we see how far this kit really can go. Once again the 266Mz divider was tested just to see if there was a boot possibility, but once again this was a restriction by the CPU. Working on the BCLK, an extra 21Mz was there to be played with and with the timings fairly close to stock at 11-13-13-35 2T the memory should see some significant gains.

Given the ever so slight overclock, there is a good gain all round in performance, with read speeds rising to 24673MB/s write to 23352MB/s and copy up to 24610MB/s. Yet again there is also a good drop in latency, right down to 30.9ns.

Pushing just over the 2600MHz barrier seems to have a considerable effect on the kits performance and even when booting Windows, this extra performance is clearly noticeable, especially with the drop in latency from 35.3ns to 30.9ns.

Priced at around £80, the HyperX Beast kits are certainly not a budget option, but what they do offer is top level performance for a price that is only a fraction below that of the Predator kit of that same speed and capacity. Whilst there is a minimal difference in price I’d say this is the better kit to go for, both in terms of performance, but to me they look far superior to the top level kits with their black PCB’s and more well designed heat spreaders. For anyone that’s in the market for a well priced, high performance kit, considering this is capable of speeds in excess of 2600MHz with minimal effort and with great results, Kingston’s HyperX Beast is one animal of a kit.
