Team Group Announces its M.2 SSD Lineup

Team Group has just launched its next generation form factor high-speed TM4PS4/TM8PS4 M.2 SSDs, which are said to provide a great solution for mobile computing due to their data saving performance, ultra compact size and lightweight.

The TM4PS4/TM8PS4 SSDs come with the next generation SATA III R3.0 6Gb/s transmission interface, which is also backward compatible with the R2.0 interface. The SSDs also come in two sizes, 22 x 42 mm and 22 x 80 mm, being suitable for most compact portable devices.

In terms of performance, the TM4PS4 SSD is said to have a read speed of up to 550 MB/s (ATTO), 520 MB/s (Crystal Disk Mark) and write speed of up to 150 MB/s (both), while also coming with 70K IOPS for the 128GB SDD and 40K IOPS for the 256GB SSD. In contrast, the TM8PS4 SSD comes with up to 560 MB/s (ATTO), 530 MB/s (Crystal Disk Mark) read speeds and up to 300 MB/s (both) write speeds, having a 73K IOPS for the 128GB version and 70K IOPS for the 256GB version.

Both the TM4PS4 and TM8PS4 have a 0.3W power consumption in idle, while providing an almost identical 1.1W and 1.2W respectively consumption while reading operations. Due to the double amount of write speed, the power consumed by the TM8PS4 jumps to 2.9 W, while the TM4PS4 stays at a 1.9 W mark.

Team Group has fitted both the M.2 SSDs with advanced garbage collection technology, wear levelling TRIM command and DevSleep mode. With a MTBF of 1.5 million hours and a 3-year limited warranty, the TM4PS4/TM8PS4 M.2 SSDs prove to be a good storage solution for any PC or laptop device.

Kingston DataTraveler Locker+ G3 32GB Encrypted Flash Drive Review

Introduction

Encryption is becoming a bigger factor for more and more people these days, even more so with each hacking scandal and spying activity that makes the news. With that in mind, it is a pleasure to take a closer look at the Kingston DataTraveler Locker+ G3 with hardware encryption.

The normal sized flash drive doesn’t just come with hardware encryption by user-defined password, it also locks the drive down and reformats it after 10 failed login attempts. It is interchangeable between Windows and Mac OS, which is another great thing to see and something that isn’t always a reality on encrypted drives.

The DataTraveler Locker+ G3 also comes with the free USBtoCloud by ClevX, a backup solution that automatically backups your data on the thumbs drive to the cloud storage of your choice. At the time of writing, it works with Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, Dropbox, and Box; so you’ll still have a secure backup at all times, even in the event of a lost or stolen drive.

Of course, we don’t just want to secure our files, we also want speedy transfers. The DataTraveler Locker+ G3 will naturally be slower than an ordinary drive in this category simply due to the encryption. It still promises great USB 3.0 speeds up to 135MB/s reading and 40M/s writing; not bad for a 32GB drive, especially not for an encrypted drive.

The drive is as easy to set up and use as a normal flash drive. Upon first insertion you’ll run the application stored on the flash drive to configure it and afterwards it’s like using a normal drive – with the exception that you’ll need to enter your password before you can use it.

The durable metal casing with key loop further keeps your data safe from physical damage. It is robust, light and good looking at the same time. Companies can also get the drive Customised with logo and/or digital files preloaded.

Due to the way the drive works, with a read-only partition for the security software, the drive requires two available drive letters on your system. Not something that should be an issue for most, but still a thing to consider.

Kingston backs the DataTraveler Locker+ G3 with a five-year warranty and free technical support.

Lexar Announces New Professional 1000x microSD UHS-II Cards

Lexar announced the new Professional 1000x microSDHC and microSDXC UHS-II cards designed for sports camcorders, tablets, and smartphones. The new cards come bundled with a highspeed USB3 card reader and the cards themselves can deliver transfer speeds up to 150MB/s.

These new cards are perfect for everything from HD, 3D and 4K photo and video capture, and also for aerial content recorded with drones and quad copters. The new cards are available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities allowing for more than 15 hours HD video on the biggest version.

“As the many uses for microSD cards grow and evolve, we want to provide users with the best possible workflow solution,” said Adam Kaufman, director of memory card product marketing, Lexar. “The Lexar Professional 1000x microSD UHS-II cards allow users to enjoy the benefits of the latest UHS-II devices, while also performing at the maximum speed threshold of UHS-I devices, and provide exceptionally fast file transfer when used with the included reader. Whether it’s with a tablet, smartphone, or quadcopter, the new Professional 1000x microSD UHS-II cards will capture and move content faster than ever before.”

The new cards are backwards compatible to older standards, but they won’t reach the same amazing speeds there. The release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015 and the attached MSRP will be $59.99 for the 32GB card, $109.99 for the 64GB card, and $189.99 for the 128GB sized card.
