Aorus Thunder K7 Mechanical Keyboard + Macro Keypad Review

Introduction

Aorus are back on eTeknix again today, following a long hiatus from our last review of theirs, the rather stunning Aorus Thunder M7 Gaming Mouse. In the office today, we have their new flagship gaming keyboard, the Thunder K7, and it’s packed to the brim with high-end features that are sure to excite professionals, gamers and well, many other people too!

  • World’s 1st Mechanical gaming keyboard with detachable Macro keys
  • Superior CHERRY MX Mechanical Key-Switch
  • Absolute Anti-Ghosting Multi-Key press Capability
  • AORUS Macro Engine

Equipped with a split design that allows you to not only detach the number pads completely and turn the main keyboard into an 80% width design, you can also attach the number pad on the left side of the keyboard and use it as a macro pad, or for any other purpose for that matter, and even then, you can also use the number pad all by its self if you really wanted! Of course, a funky modular design isn’t the only thing you can expect from this keyboard today. Equipped with Cherry MX Red switches, N-key rollover, anti-ghosting, LED lighting, macro engine, detachable wrist rest, and more, the K7 is sounding like strong competition for many other high-end keyboards on the market today.

The box for the Thunder K7 is absolutely huge, it may actually be the biggest keyboard box we’ve ever seen, and not by any small margin either!b There’s a huge image of the keyboard don the front, as well as a badge telling us this is the orange light edition, not the blue one in the big picture.

Around the back, a quick rundown of the main features, such as the modular design, Cherry switches, and the powerful macro engine.

The box opens up to reveal just why it’s so big in the first place. The keyboard is exceptionally well padded and the main keyboard, number pad and wrist rest are all separated by thick foam to ensure they stay secure in transit. Each component is wrapped in plastic bags to keep them dust free and there’s a large plastic shell over the top over everything to protect it from damage.

In the box, the keyboard, which comes hard-wired with a good quality USB cable and custom USB 2.0 gold-plated head, as well as a secondary cable for when you’re using the number pad independently.

The detachable wrist rest is pretty durable and has a good width to it. It is worth pointing out, however, that it’s the full keyboard size, so may look ridiculous if you’re using it in 80% mode.

There are some rubber grips on the bottom to keep it in place, but you’ll notice the lack of clips as the whole unit connects to the keyboard magnetically.

Corsair Gaming K70 Rapidfire RGB Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

Ready to take your gaming seriously? We’ve got the (mostly) new Corsair Gaming K70 Rapidfire RGB in the eTeknix office today, and while you may be familiar with the K70 part, the keyboard now features the all-new and very much improved Cherry MX Speed switches! But what are MX Speed switches? They use the same underlying format as the extremely popular and lightning fast MX Red switches, but with a 40% reduction in actuation distance, meaning they’re even faster than ever before, making them the shortest response mechanical switches on the market today.

  • Ultrafast mechanical gaming keyboard: ultrafast 1.2mm actuation and light 45g switch force for truly unrivaled response time.
  • 100% Cherry MX Speed RGB key switches: ultrafast performance with the precision and durability of gold contact Cherry MX mechanical gaming key switches.
  • Aircraft-grade anodized brushed aluminum frame: with light weight and rugged durability you need for a keyboard that’s going to see a lot of action.
  • 100% anti-ghosting and full key rollover over USB circuitry: no matter how fast you go your keypresses will always register.
  • Advanced lighting control and large font keycaps: experience dynamic, vibrant multi-color backlighting.
  • The power of CUE: sophisticated macro programming and fast, fluid dynamic multicolor illumination for an enlightened gaming experience.
  • Detachable soft-touch wrist rest: the comfort you need for marathon gaming sessions.
  • Dedicated multimedia controls: the control you need to adjust your audio without interrupting your game.
  • USB Pass-Through Port: Positioned for uninterrupted game play and ready for your mouse or wireless headset adapter.
  • FPS and MOBA keycap sets: Textured and contoured keycaps provide maximum grip and enhanced feel

Every action counts when it comes to competitive gaming, and trimming the fat from the switch means that you’ll be triggering those switches milliseconds before the competition. It’s not a huge advantage, but every little bit adds up and no matter how small it may seem, an edge is an edge.

The packaging is really nicely designed, keeping the usual Corsair colours and showing off the most important features.

You’ll find all the usual stuff in the box, such as the documentation, two sets of gaming caps and a handy key cap puller.

Creative SoundBlaster X Pro-Gaming H5 Headset Review

Introduction

Creative are on of the most iconic and instantly recognisable brands on the market when it comes to audio. Having created some of the most popular and best-performing consumer audio products for the PC market over the last few decades, I’m sure many of you, if not all of you, have owned or used a Creative product at one point or another. So when I heard that Creative felt they had one of the best gaming headsets on the market and that it would cost less than £100, I simply had to try it out.

CLEARER, LOUDER, HARDER, BETTER!

“The Sound BlasterX H5 radiates with comfort in every element of the design. It’s made up of reinforced steel headband and aluminium architecture. Sound BlasterX H5 features an ergonomically-tested design that guarantees comfort over long stretches of gaming sessions, and withstand the rigours of gameplay. Specifically designed for our pro-gaming teams, the H5 Special Edition is distinctly branded with a BlasterX label on both side-plates. Fans could use this chance to take their loyalty to a whole new level. Every time they put them on, it’s a way of showing their appreciation for great sound and comfort, and what they consider as the ultimate weapon for their gameplay!” – Creative

There are a few key design aspects that are going to be important with this headset, such as the fact it was designed for eSports. This means you can expect leather ear pads and a semi-closed back design, helping block out all that unwanted, game distracting, ambient crowd noise. We’ll also be expecting the detachable noise-reduction microphone to be pretty robust and focused on your voice, not the voices of the crowd.

“Experience your game the way it’s meant to be heard. The Sound BlasterX H5 is equipped with large, responsive 50mm FullSpectrum drivers that deliver astounding sound. Rated at 118dB/mW, the Sound BlasterX H5 is among the loudest gaming headsets of its class. Feel the tremor of every bone-shattering explosion and hear the rattle of gunfire in your gameplay, like no other.” – Creative

The packaging for the H5 is pretty stylish, with a clear bowl-shaped lid on the top showing us a fairly uncompromised view of the actual headset.

Around the back, there’s a little run down of some of the features, as well as the included accessories.

In the box, you’ll find the headset, obviously, as well as a detachable microphone, 3.5mm 4-pole to dual 3.5mm 3-pole extension cable and a 3.5mm 4-pole in-line controller cable.

Corsair Gaming M65 Pro RGB Optical Mouse Review

Introduction

The Corsair M65 is one of the most popular gaming mice on the market today, but as popular as it may be, Corsair thinks they can make it even better! We’ve already seen a few models of the M65 here at eTeknix, such as the old Vengeance M65, the tweaked RGB version and now the biggest change, the removal of the old laser sensor, and in goes the new high-end 12K DPI optical sensor.

Optical is certainly the way to go for competitive gaming, it has long proven to be more accurate, more often than not, smoother, and suffer less problems with acceleration, so here’s hoping the new sensor from Corsair will be up to the job. Although, given the performance of other Corsair mice in the last year or so, we’re expecting it to be pretty spectacular. Add to that the full RGB lighting, and plenty of other cool features and the M65 Pro is already sounding very promising.

The packaging is nicely designed, keeping in theme with other Corsair Gaming peripherals.

Around the back of the box, details on some features such as the 8 programmable buttons, sniper button and high-precision switches.

The box also opens out, giving us a nice sneak peek at the overall design.

In the box, you’ll find the usual documentation, as well as the mouse, which comes hard-wired with a high-quality black braided cable and a custom moulded USB header.

Corsair Gaming Sabre RGB 10k DPI Optical Mouse Review

Corsair produces some of the most popular gaming mice on the market today, from their MMO ready Scimitar, to their versatile Raptor M45, and many more. The Sabre walks a nice middle ground for Corsair, packaging a few extra gaming-friendly features, such as extra programmable buttons, as well as customisable RGB lighting, a 100g ultra light design, as well as their high-end 10k DPI optical gaming sensor.

“Ultra light weight at just 100g, the Corsair Gaming Sabre Optical RGB 6,400 DPI gaming mouse offers easy comfort and fluid reach balanced by consistently accurate tracking, 1,000 Hz refresh rate, eight configurable buttons, and super-responsive switches. Four-zone 16.8M color backlighting creates a beautiful, personalized look that matches your style.” – Corsair

Picking the right mouse for your desktop can be tricky, but equipped with everything you need for day-to-day work, as well as gaming, be that at home or in the world of competitive eSports, the Sabre is ticking all the right boxes. So let’s jump right in and take a closer look at what it has to offer.

The adaptability in grip gives you the adaptability you need to compete in a wide variety of game types from FPS to RTS and MOBA. Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum Mouse Review

Introduction

The world of desktop mice is very competitive, and it doesn’t matter if you’re in the office, a stay-at-home gamer or involved in eSports, when it comes to buying a new mouse, you’re going to want the best mouse you can possibly get, assuming you’ve got the budget of course. Enter the Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum, said to be the most innovative and best-performing mouse on the market, not just in terms of what Logitech has created before it, but even compared to their many rivals high-end products too. This is a bold claim and it’s something we’re eager to test today, so let’s take a look at what the G900 has to offer.

Professional Grade Wireless

“In high-pressure moments, latency can be the difference between winning it all or losing. With millions on the line, or just some e-cred with your buddies, PC gamers can depend on the G900 Chaos Spectrum to get the GG. With a 1 millisecond report rate, and our highly optimized 2.4GHz wireless connection, the G900 Chaos Spectrum outperforms the competition’s solutions, even the wired ones!” – Logitech

Advanced Optical Gaming Sensor

“The G900 Chaos Spectrum utilizes the PMW3366 optical gaming sensor, which is widely regarded as the best optical sensor on the market. The PMW3366 sensor precisely translates hand movement onto the screen, even at high-sensitivity. It delivers exceptionally accurate and consistent responsiveness at any speed across the entire DPI range (200-12,000DPI) with zero acceleration and zero smoothing thanks to Delta Zero technology.” – Logitech

Wireless has often been a sticking point for competitive gaming, as it has a history of lower latency, problems with interference and more, but Logitech has thrown every bit of research you can think of at their new design and the end result is a wireless mouse (although it can be used wired mode also) that has the lowest latency on the market, even compared to wired mice, the most consistent signal even in the most demanding scenarios, an ultra-light design and none of this has come at the compromise of features, as the G900 is one of the best equipped and most feature packed mice you’ll find.

Fully programmable buttons, Logitech’s legendary adjustable scroll-wheel, one of the best sensors on the market, a fast processor and premium grade switches. Of course, the most important thing here in my eyes is that it weighs just 107 grams, which is virtually nothing for a mouse and even more so for a wireless mouse! There’s nothing more we could ask for in a mouse, so let’s jump right in and take a closer look at what it has to offer.

Features

  • 6-11 programmable buttons (depending on side button configuration)
  • Lightweight hyperfast tilt scroll wheel
  • Customizable RGB Lighting

The packaging is quite compact with a nice image of the mouse on the front, as well as the usual branding.

Around the back, a quick rundown of the major features such as the 1ms wired or wireless report rate, 107g weight, sensor and button configuration.

The slip cover comes off the box, revealing a durable presentation box.

It opens out to reveal the mouse prominently displayed and surrounded by lots of custom cut protective packaging.

Under the mouse, all the required accessories.

There’s a lightweight braided cable for using the mouse in wired mode or to simply charge the mouse. There’s also a wireless dongle and additional side buttons.

The ambidextrous mouse allows you to remove the side buttons and swap it between true left/right-handed modes, or even configure it to have dual side buttons to suit your taste. The dongle is a simple USB device but also comes with a block that can be used as an extender, which we’ll see in action shortly.

Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

Cooler Master are one of the biggest and best in the industry, not only for their high-end chassis such as the Master Case Pro 5, but also their power supplies, coolers and most importantly today, their peripherals. Dropping the CM Storm branding, their latest keyboard, the Masterkeys Pro S TKL, falls in line with their “maker” series of products. Last year so very little new products from CM and we knew they were cooking up something big. They came back after a long period of silence with a completely redesigned and focused product line, and their “make it yours” philosophy.

All the new products we’ve seen from Cooler Master have been beyond impressive, so I’m really eager to see what their new premium-grade mechanical keyboard has to offer. There are two models available, the full-size MasterKeys Pro L and the TKL MasterKeys Pro S, which is the one we have in the eTeknix office today.

The new keyboards come with all the premium features you would expect, such as customisable RGB lighting, Cherry MX switches, macro support, anti-ghosting and N-key rollover and more. Most importantly, at least in terms of the RGB lighting, is that cooler master customised the PCB, allowing for larger and brighter LEDs, without compromising on the use of Cherry MX switches.

E-Blue Mazer Type-R Wireless Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction

Today we’ll be taking a look at the new Mazer Type-R Wireless from E-Blue. While you may not have heard of E-Blue, they’re one of the quickest growing names in the business right now, having expanded into more global markets each year since they started back in 1999. Right now, E-Blue is working on opening around 600 eSports cafes in China, are sponsors of the well-known EDG Gaming League of Legends champions, and so much more.

“Our mission is to bring stylish, trendy and high-quality products to the worldwide end-users. We believe that there are many good products in the market but they are in unreasonable price to the end-user and also there exist many low-graded of products with bad quality and in low price to a big group of user. But these two types are not the most desired and demanded to the customers. They desire the products more trendy, under reasonable price and good quality with high durability. This is how e-blue insist to keep such principle as the main mission.” – E-Blue

While they do offer up a few high-end peripherals, their core market is getting good specification hardware into gamers hands at a price that is very affordable. There’s a very competitive market right now for affordable gaming and I’m sure many of you will agree, we don’t all have £100+ for a new keyboard or gaming mouse.

Equipped with an Avago optical sensor, capable of 500/1200/1800/2500 DPI, wireless technology (via USB dongle), and a stylish design, the Type-R certainly seems interesting. As with any other E-Blue product we’ve ever seen, its also exceptionally well packaged and the box gives us a great look at the actual mouse design.

Around the back, a quick rundown of some more technical details, such as mac/PC compatibility and battery requirements (2 x AA).

In the box, you’ll find the Type-R mouse, obviously, as well as the wireless USB dongle, which is nice and compact, two batteries, and the user manual.

Let’s take a quick look at the Patriot product preview video and then we’ll move on and take a closer look.

A nicely designed box, with a clear image, the specifications and a side window for a sneaker look at the overall design.

While around the back, you’ll find a quick rundown of the main features, such as the UBR switch and LED lighting.

In the box, you’ll find a nice protective pouch for the headset, as well as a small envelope.

In the envelope, there’s a product guide, quick start guide, and a few cool stickers; nothing too crazy, but it’s always nice to have a few small extras.

PDP Official Universal Media Remote for PlayStation 4 Review

Introduction

PDP are one of the biggest aftermarket peripheral brands around, having had great success with products such as the AfterGlow controllers for Xbox and PlayStation, now they’re back again with another great addition, this time exclusively for the PlayStation 4. Sony’s latest console is a great hub for home entertainment, offering a fantastic Blu-Ray player, as well as a host of multimedia applications such as Amazon Prime, iPlayer, PlayStation Video and Plex, but there’s been one glaring omission from the setup; a remote control.

The PlayStation 3 had a Bluetooth remote for ages, so it was expected that one would be made available at the console launch, or at least very close to it, but nothing came to light. Now, all this time after release, PDP has stepped in to make the officially licenced controller and while it almost feels like too little too late, I’m sure many of you are happy to see that a remote has finally been made available! The question is, is the control any good?

“Enjoy the convenience of having one remote to instantly control the endless entertainment options of your PlayStation®4. Want quick and easy access to all your favorite TV shows, movies, music, and videos? Coordinate everything with the officially licensed Universal Media Remote for PS4 and manage up to 4 devices—PS4, Set Top Box, TV, and Audio Receiver. Whether you’re listening to music, watching a video, or settling down with Netflix for the night, the Universal Media Remote for PS4 puts you in control right from the comfort of your couch.”

All the features you could hope for are here too, as you can not only control the PlayStation 4, but also up to three additional devices such as your cable box, surround sound and more, meaning the PDP controller has the potential to be the only remote you’ll need to pick up for movie night. It also promises additional support for many of the multimedia applications that are available on the PS4, which is certainly a big benefit overall.

  • Intuitive Control: Enjoy a convenient way to navigate and control your PlayStation® 4 system with ease.
  • Command up to Four Devices: Control your PS4system and up to three additional devices, including a TV, cable box and audio receiver.
  • Connects via Bluetooth: Uses Bluetooth to control your PS4 system.
  • Dedicated PS4 Buttons:   Includes the most important buttons for navigating system menus and apps including the Action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, and square), Share, Options, and PS buttons.
  • App Control:  At launch, the Universal Media Remote will be fully compatible with the following apps on PS4, with more to come later:
    • Blu-ray Disc Player
    • Crunchyroll
    • DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket
    • FUNimation
    • HBO GO
    • Media Player
    • NBA GAME TIME
    • Netflix
    • PlayStation Video
    • PlayStation Vue
    • Youtube

The packaging is nicely designed and shows off that official product badge proudly. PDP have a small logo on there, but overall this looks pretty much like a Sony branded package.

Again, we see that it has support for PS4 via Bluetooth, as well as other devices via IR.

In the box, you’ll find a simple multi-language user manual.

There’s not a lot here that isn’t obvious, but for setting up other devices to the control, you’ll likely need to read the booklet. Either way, it’s all fairly straightforward.

Steelseries Rival 100 Pro Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction

Picking the right mouse can be a daunting task, as there as so many to choose from. However, when it comes to eSports, Steelseries think they’ve got the perfect mouse for the job with their new Rival 100. Competitive gaming is big business, but one thing most pro gamers will agree on is that a mouse that offers great precision, manoeuvrability and minimal fuss is what separates the winners from the loser; although being good at the game is obviously also a big advantage.

Forged in eSports, Designed for all. “Whether this is your first gaming mouse, or you’re already topping the leaderboards, the Rival 100 is the gaming mouse for you. Equipped with Prism RGB illumination, six buttons, an ergonomic design, and unmatched performance – we sacrificed nothing. The Rival 100 is the only fully-equipped gaming mouse in its class.” – Steelseries

The Rival 100 may not pack a lot of features, but when it comes to games like CS:GO, League of Legends and many other popular tournament ready games, you really don’t need a dozen macro keys, crazy LED lighting effects and anything else that does well in the general consumer market. You need something focused, and that’s exactly what the Rival 100 is aiming to be. Equipped with high-quality switches, a high-performance optical sensor, programmable buttons, on-board storage and more, it’s certainly ticking all the right boxes, so let’s get right to it and take a closer look at what it has to offer.

The packaging offers a nice look at the general design of the mouse, as well as the quote “best in class optical gaming mouse” although that’s something we aim to be the judge of too.

Around the back, a nice technical breakdown, showing the optical sensor, RGB lighting, 2000 DPI, 30m click switches and 20G acceleration.

The mouse comes hard-wired with a lightweight 6ft cable and a standard USB header. The mouse is plug and play ready, but if you want to get into all the features, you’ll want to download the latest SteelSeries engine.

Tesoro Excalibur V2 Illuminated Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

Tesoro may not be the first name you think of when it comes to buying a new gaming keyboard, but given the successes they’ve delivered in the past, they’re certainly a name you should be looking at more often. Just check out some of the kick-ass keyboards we’ve reviewed from Tesoro over the years and you’ll get an idea why I’m excited about their new Excalibur V2, such as the Lobera Supreme, Lobera Spectrum RGB, the seriously cool Tizona Elite and of course, the predecessor of today’s review sample, the Excalibur.

“Excalibur is a classic take on gaming, giving gamer all required tools to dominate the field of battle without additional features that most gamers would not use, making it one of the best performance to value board out there.” –Tesorotec.com

Equipped with a powerful ARM Cortex Premium CPU, onboard memory, 1000Hz polling rate, full N-key and 6-key rollover, LED lighting, on-the-fly macro recording and more, it’s certainly ticking all the right boxes for a well-rounded desktop keyboard.

Equipped with Kailh mechanical blue switches, and a wide range of lighting effects, the V2 is bound to be a lot of fun to work and play on, as well as a visual treat, so let’s jump in and take a closer look at what the latest keyboard from Tesoro has to offer!

Features

  • Gaming Grade Mechanical Switch
  • Heavy-Duty
  • 32bit ARM Cortex Premium Processor
  • 1000Hz Ultra-polling rate
  • 512KB (4Mb) Onboard memory
  • All keys programmable
  • NKey / 6 Key Rollover
  • Versatile Lighting effects
  • Make your own LED effects with instant lighting recording
  • Double injection keycaps
  • Quick profile switch, instant macro recording, reset hotkey, keyboard lock
  • Compatible with Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10

The packaging is really nicely designed, showing a stylised image of the keyboard on the front, as well as a picture of a sword, most likely Excalibur since all Tesoro peripherals are named after legendary weapons.

Around the back, a quick breakdown of the main features, such as that ARM CPU and the Kailh blue switches; nothing we don’t already know, so let’s get the box open and take a look.

The first thing you’ll find, a simple quick start guide and a Tesoro product catalogue, all fairly straightforward stuff so far.

The V2 comes hard-wired with a good quality 1.8m black braided cable. Although, I’d prefer that it was a removable cable, as it makes it easier to transport the cable without damaging it. It’s plug and play ready too, meaning you can get straight into the action, but there is also downloadable software if you want to tweak some of the more advanced settings.

QPAD DX-20 Pro Gaming Optical Mouse Review

Introduction

QPAD have a long history of making high-quality, high-performance gaming peripherals, and today looks set to be the perfect example of this with the release of their new QPAD Dx-20 Optical, a premium-grade gaming mouse designed for those who take their gaming seriously. Equipped with a gaming-grade optical sensor that promises “game-critical zero-mouse acceleration, precisely matching 1:1 movement.”

When it comes to eSports, or even just being a competitive gamer at home, having a sensor that you can trust is vital. If you twitch for a headshot or that important attack in your favourite game such as CS:GO or LoL, you want that confidence that the mouse is going to be as accurate as possible; if it misses, you’ll only have yourself to blame. With that in mind, I’m really hoping the Dx-20 lives up to the high standards required for competitive gaming.

  • Advanced Optical sensor for optimized tracking performance
  • High quality Omron main switches with a distinct mechanical feedback
  • Zero Mouse acceleration, one-to-one relationship between the mouse and the screen
  • Bottom plate RGB LED

“QPAD’s DX-20, the company’s latest mouse, breaks new ground in more ways than one. The DX-20 is the first new mouse shape from QPAD in seven years. Equally important, it’s an multi-surface mouse, meaning you can use it on more surfaces than any previous optical gaming mouse.” – QPAD

The sensor isn’t the only high-end feature on offer today either, with Omron switches, 20G max acceleration, RGB lighting, adjustable report rate, a lag-free ARM cortex M3 processor, on-board memory and more, the DX-20 is shaping up to be a great mouse.

The packaging is really nicely designed, with a clear image of the mouse design on the front and prominent display of its RGB lighting features. There’s also a quick rundown of all the major features, such as the 2500 CPI, zero acceleration and 7-button design.

Around the back, a more technical breakdown (see specification chart above) and a few more pictures of the mouse design, but we’ll take a closer look at that in just a moment.

Removing the slipcover for the box, you’ll find a durable inner box with “E-SPORT FOR LIFE” on the box.

Opening up the box, it’s clear this is designed to look and feel like a premium experience.  There’s thick foam padding around the mouse, as well as a hard box at the top protecting the cabling, as well as a nice welcome message on the inside of the lid from QPAD.

In the box, aside from the mouse, you’ll also find an extra set of slipmats as well as a protective carry pouch for the mouse.

QPAD were also kind enough to include their new FX 44 pro gaming mouse pad for us to test. They’re such a subjective thing overall, but it should make a nice match with their latest mouse.

Turtle Beach Star Wars X-Wing Pilot Gaming Headset Review

Introduction

Turtle Beach are one of the biggest names in the gaming industry, having had many years experience catering to both the budget friendly and enthusiast ends of the gaming audio market, as well as everything else in-between. With that in mind, I’m very happy to see their new special edition Turtle Beach Star Wars X-Wing Pilot Gaming Headset on my desk. Given the seemingly endless success of the Star Wars franchise, a colossal pile of official merchandise following the new movie was to be expected, but a gaming headset certainly stands out as the obvious addition to that. With Battlefront keeping many people sat at their gaming system of choice and the fact that you can wear a headset that has a heavily inspired design from the movies, it just seems like something a Star Wars fan would want in their collection.

“The Turtle Beach® Star Wars X-Wing Pilot headset features a unique design inspired by the Starfighter Pilots of the Rebel Alliance. Engage in battle with full-range audio delivered through 40mm Neodymium speakers, and call for reinforcements using the high-sensitivity boom mic which provides crystal-clear chat. The lightweight design provides hours of comfort, and the 3.5mm jack connection is compatible with PlayStation®4, Xbox One, PC, Mac mobile/tablet and portable gaming devices. May the Force be with you!”

Of course, the performance is what we really care about the most, although since this is a special edition, the design is a big factor for this review. The headset appears to be based around the budget end of the Turtle Beach range, and with a £34.99 price tag, that seems to be a safe guess. It looks like a tweaked Recon 50 type design, so I’m eager to hear how it performs overall.

Star Wars Design
The X-Wing Pilot headset design is inspired by the signature orange jumpsuits worn by the Starfighter Pilots of the Rebel Alliance.

Full-Range Audio
Hear Star Wars the way it’s meant to be heard through the X-Wing Pilot’s high-performance 40mm Neodymium speakers that deliver sizzling highs and thundering lows.

Convenient Controls
The X-Wing Pilot’s in-line controls place Mic Mute and Volume conveniently at your fingertips.

Be Heard Loud & Clear
Team-up with friends and chat in online multiplayer games with the X-Wing Pilot’s adjustable, high-sensitivity boom mic, which can quickly and easily be removed when listening to music and watching movies.

Lightweight & Comfortable
The X-Wing Pilot features Turtle Beach’s latest lightweight and comfortable design, ready to provide hours of comfort during those long, marathon gaming sessions.

Versatile
Fans can use the Star Wars X-Wing Pilot headset for playing games like Star Wars Battlefront, and also use it to enjoy their favorite movies, music and more.

The packaging is very nicely designed, although with it being Star Wars branded, it’s obvious that Turtle Beach would need to capitalise on this as much as possible. Detailed on the box, we can see that it sports a comfortable fit, removable high-quality microphone and in-line volume controls.

Around the back, more details about the multiformat support, design and the in-line controller; but we’ll take a closer look at all this shortly.

The first thing we find in the box, a detachable boom microphone. It comes with a large foam head as well as a flexible arm that should allow for easy positioning.

Next, we have the headset, which comes hard-wired with a fairly standard cable that joins to both ear cups and ends with a 4-pole 3.5mm jack.

On the cable, a small in-line controller. It’s pretty basic, offering a microphone mute switch and a master volume wheel, but that’s all you’ll really need anyway.

E-Blue K820 Professional Gaming Combo Review

Introduction

E-Blue may be a fairly new name to most of our readers, but they’re quickly pushing into new parts of the world with their products and their latest, the E-Blue K820 Professional Gaming Combo certainly caught our attention. There’s a lot of competition in the market right now to make the absolute best budget friendly gaming bundle. With many people investing in their first computers, building on a tight budget, or even just looking for an affordable solution for younger games; especially with the never-ending popularity of Minecraft, it makes sense that there’s a big market for affordable peripherals.

E-Blue has been around since 1999, working out of Hong Kong and creating a range of OEM products, but have pushed their own hardware, such as keyboards, mice, headsets, gaming chairs and more. Since then, they’ve been working with Marvel Inc for Iron Man branded hardware, they’re investing in eSports and sponsor LoL champions EDG Gaming, and are opening hundreds of E-Blue equipped internet cafes/Gaming Arena’s in China; safe to say, they’re not doing too badly at all.

What’s great about this bundle is that it has the keyboard, a mouse and the mouse mat all packed into a single box. This is super convenient for getting ready for some gaming, but I think it also doubles up as a nice gift bundle; very handy when Christmas comes around.

  • Ergonomic designed shape, standard 104 key layout and the lifespan up to 10 million for both gaming and office demands.
  • Mouse is tailored in ergonomic design with perfect grip and dazzle blue lighting effect, 3 levels DPI shift to select.
  • Mouse pad adopts high compact weaving mesh surface with unique splash-ink design.

while not the highest spec of hardware ever, it’s a good entry point and looks like great value for money given the current RRP.

First thing I noticed was that the packaging is very well designed. Great images of the products on the front, as well as a rundown of the main features and specifications around the back.

In the box, you’ll find a hard-wired keyboard, hard-wired mouse, mouse mat, and a set of extra key caps.

Roccat Ryos MK FX RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

Roccat are back on eTeknix once again, this time with the latest and hopefully, their greatest keyboard they’ve ever produced! The new Roccat Ryos MK FX RGB Mechanical Keyboards takes everything we know and love about the already fantastic Ryos range, and gives it a glorious RGB switch upgrade, allowing Roccat to take their already impressive lighting engine to a whole new and far more colourful level.

“The Ryos MK FX offers fully customizable, ROCCAT®-enginereed Per-Key RGB illumination in two convenient modes: preset and custom. This means you can add awesome special effects in 16.8 million colors to your keystrokes, configure your keyboard to highlight your in-game and application key bindings, your modifier keys, your system controls as well as your macro sequences and cool-downs plus much, much more.” – Roccat

With full 16.8 million colour lighting, two 32-bit ARM Cortex processors with 2MB of flash memory ensuring lag-free processing of lighting, macros recording, Cherry MX switches, AlienFX, Roccat Talk, Easy-Shift, dedicated macro keys, thumbster keys, n-key rollover and more.

“Do you pick style or performance when you look for the perfect weapon to add to your gaming arsenal? Do it the ROCCAT way: pick both. Purpose built for hardcore gamers, the Ryos MK FX is the most advanced mechanical gaming keyboard on the market. Using all of ROCCAT’s industry expertise and gaming experience, the Ryos MK FX boasts a feature set so comprehensive and a design so eye-watering you’ll be leading the pack by miles – complete with 16.8 million color per-key RGB illumination.” – Roccat

The packaging keeps in theme with all the other Roccat keyboards we’ve seen, but one noticeable difference is the extra aura of colour around the keyboard; very colourful!

A few technical details around the box tell us that we’ve got MX Brown switches, the UK layout and some of the cool features of the board, but since we’ve already discussed these, let’s move on and open up the box!

With the outer slip cover removed, you’ll find a sturdy inner box with a Ryos logo.

Inside that, the Ryos keyboard, protected with a lot of cardboard spacers to keep it safe, as well as a custom plastic top cover and some plastic strips to prevent scratches in transit.

The keyboard comes hard-wired with a thick braided cable and has dual USB headers for extra power, as well as a pair of 3.5mm audio jacks for pass-through connectivity.

The packaging is nicely designed, keeping in theme with other Corsair Gaming hardware and the previous Void series headsets. On the front, we can see that it supports Dolby, Corsair Utility Engine, multiple devices and features 50mm drivers.

Around the back, a more detailed run down on how the headset can connect to multiple devices, as well as some information on the noise-cancelling microphone, format support, and on-headset controls.

In the box, you’ll find all the usual documentation as well as a simple quick start guide.

There’s a small USB dongle soundcard included, this isn’t needed for connecting to all devices, but as you can see, it takes a USB port and outputs it to a 3.5mm jack for the headset, and there’s a small LED indicator on there for the Dolby feature.

Steelseries Siberia 200 Gaming Headset Review

Introduction

The legendary Steelseries Siberia gaming headset returns, with almost a decade of being one of the most popular headset ranges on the market, SteelSeries are back with their latest edition, the Siberia 200. Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, the iconic design remains mostly unchanged, but that doesn’t mean the headset isn’t still improving with each iteration. If you’ve ever used any of the Siberia headset range over the years, you’ll no doubt know why it has proven so popular, not only with at home gamers, but also a huge portion of the eSports and pro gaming community. The build quality, the comfortable fit, the competitive price and most importantly, the great performance are all just right, but will the latest edition improve or, at least, live up to the standards set by previous models?

Check out the new Show Your Colours promotional video from SteelSeries. If the video leaves you a little confused, it’s more about their new customisation options, even if that’s not really clear from the video. The Siberia 200 is available in a range of funky colours, although we’ll just be taking a look at the iconic while model today.

Equipped with powerful 50mm Neodymium drivers, a good quality microphone and multi-format 3.5mm connectors, the Siberia 200 is ticking all the right boxes in terms of features. What’s nice is that you can use the headset on PC, Mac, Mobile and PlayStation devices although anything that supports 3.5mm 4-pole or dual 3.mm cables will work just fine too.

The packaging is nicely designed, with a great image of the headset on the front. Please ignore the crushed corner of the box, that’s got a lot more to do with the courier than it does with Steelseries. At least if the headset is in one piece, we know it’s well protected.

Around the back, you’ll find a quick rundown of the main features, such as the lightweight and comfortable fit, auto adjusting headband, balanced drivers, in-line controller and improved cable design.

In the box, you’ll find the hard-wired headset as well as a dual 3.5mm to single 3.5mm 4-pole adapter cable.

All cables come with a really nice quality rubber coating which should help prevent tangles and also looks pretty great too. All of the jacks are gold-plated too, so they shouldn’t corrode or fade over the next few hundred years.

The in-line controller is pretty slim, but has a nice and large slide switch for the master microphone mute, with a clear red indicator so you can quickly see when it’s muted. there’s also a master volume wheel on the side.

Cougar 450K Hybrid Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Introduction

We’ve been seeing a rapidly growing range of peripherals from Cougar over the last year, from their high-end 700K Mechanical to their budget friendly 200K. Today, however, we’ll be taking a look at a keyboard that fits quite nicely in the middle, the Cougar 450K Hybrid, a budget friendly, yet rather feature-packed gaming keyboard that we’re hoping will be as impressive as all the other Cougar products we’ve reviewed here at eTeknix.

“COUGAR 450K brings you all the features you would expect from a high-end gaming keyboard. With highly comfortable hybrid mechanical switches, 450K provides the accurate tactile feedback of fully mechanical keyboards and a durability far above other keyboards of its class while at the same time offering a superior level of comfort and less finger strain.”

While this is a membrane keyboard, it’s marketed as a “hybrid mechanical.” Many of you will recognise this as what it really is, a plunger switch. This means you’ve got a tactile pop to the keys that gives them a mechanical feel, but they’re much quieter and cheaper than classic mechanical switches, giving you a nice bridge between standard membrane and mech switches.

“COUGAR 450K’s support for UIX allows you to adjust the functionality of the keyboards’ keys, define macros and modify many important settings of the keyboard. All of this is done with a highly intuitive interface that is shared with compatible COUGAR mice, which means that after you get used to 450K using, for example, 450M will be easy and natural. After configuring all the settings, 450K’s on-board memory will allow you to bring with you up to three configuration profiles anywhere you go.”

The 450K comes well equipped given its budget friendly aspirations. You’ll find three colour LED lighting, on-board memory for macros and profiles, 1ms response, anti-ghosting, UIX software, programmable keys and a 1.8m braided cable.

The packaging is nicely designed, with a cool image of the keyboard on the front, as well as a quick rundown of the main specifications, such as the polling rate, splash proof design, switch type and more.

Around the back, a more detailed run down of the extra features, but we’ll take a closer look at those in just a moment.

In the box, you’ll find the keyboard comes hard-wired with a good quality 1.8-meter black braided USB cable. It’s plug and play ready, but if you want to tap into all the extra features, you’ll also want to download the UIX software from the Cougar website.

Roccat Renga PC and PS4 Gaming Headset Review

Introduction

Roccat is one of the most popular gaming brands on the market, so we’re very happy to see their latest headset, the Renga, in the eTeknix office today. Having already produced some of our favourite headsets, such as the Kave XTD True 5.1 and my own personal in-ear headphones/headset, the Syva, I have high expectations for their new multi-format lightweight stereo gaming headset. Roccat has always worked hard to push innovative features to their products, and you only have to take a quick look at their Ryos and ISKU FX keyboards, Tyon gaming mouse, or any other products they’ve produced, to see how they’ve innovated in terms of design, features, performance and their feature-packed desktop software.

“Renga is ROCCAT’s vision for a studio grade over-ear stereo gaming headset that creates the utmost audio experience for gamers. With multi-platform support, its over-ear design with optimally aligned 50mm driver units ensures comfort and deep, powerful bass for completely undivided in-game focus. Its reinforced structural housing provides the framework for a super comfortable build, with ergonomic headband and ear cushions. Perfect for gaming, music playback, movies and more, Renga is developed for gamers who demand more from their headset.” – Roccat

The Renga has been designed for serious gamers, both at home and within the eSports community. It’s open-backed design will help you stay focused on your environment and your game, with a high-quality fold up microphone that will give you the performance you need for team chat or even a few Skype calls at home. It promises a durable and highly flexible design that should ensure the headset takes more than a few knocks and bumps too, handy for those heading out to a lot of gaming events. To add further value to the Renga, you’ll also find it support PC, PlayStation 4 and mobile devices, giving you more bang for your buck by only needing one headset for multiple gaming devices. So let’s go take a closer look at what Roccat’s latest headset has to offer.

The packaging is typical Roccat, with the strong black and blue theme, a great photo of the headset and all the major specifications listed right on the front. As you can see, we’ve got multiformat support, powerful stereo drivers, and an open-back ventilated driver design.

In the box, you’ll find the headset, which comes hard-wired with a dual 3.5mm cable for desktop use, a Y-split to single 3.5mm cable for console/mobile use, as well as the usual documentation.

The cables are fantastic quality, with a thick rubber anti-tangle coating in stunning electric blue. There’s also a hard-wired in-line controller that gives you quick and easy access to the microphone mute switch, as well as a master volume dial.

Razer Orbweaver & Tartarus Chroma Gaming Controllers Review

Introduction

Not all gaming keyboards are created equally. Some are full-size, some are TKL and then some are so compact, they’re to be used with just one hand, such as the Razer Orbweaver Chroma and Razer Tartarus Chroma we have in the eTeknix office today. For many games these days, you actually don’t need the full keyboard. Short of playing full-blown simulations games you can get away with a smaller key set, but don’t think that because it’s shorter on keys, that these two controllers don’t offer a huge amount of features, because they’ve got a lot to offer to you and your desktop gaming setup.

We’ve got both models in today to take a look at what they have to offer, the Orbweaver features twenty main keys and Razer’s own design mechanical green switches. The Tartarus features a membrane switch and fifteen main keys, offering a slightly more affordable solution, but still packing the bulk of the features of the more expensive model, such as Razer’s Chroma 16.8 million colour RGB lighting engine, an 8-way thumbpad, a pair of thumb switches, multiple profiles, macros, adjustable ergonomics and more!

Both devices are quite similar, with great specifications, so let’s jump right in and take a closer look at what they have to offer.

The packaging for both controllers is nicely designed, with a clear image on the front as well as a few of the main specifications. Of course, the Orbweaver also has the details about the Razer Mechanical switches, clearly highlighting it as the premium model of the two.

Around the back, a more detailed run down of the spec in multiple languages, but we’ll get them out the box and take a closer look ourselves.

In the box for the Orbweaver, you’ll find the hard-wired controller, as well as a small collection of documentation.

The same again for the Tartarus.
