A female Police officer has shot and killed a 17-year-old at his home in Eagle View Mobile Home Park in Euharlee, Georgia. On Friday night Euharlee Police officers showed up at Christopher Roupe’s home to serve a probation warrant for his father. Upon hearing a knock at the door Christopher asked who was there, upon receiving no answer he opened the door and was immediately shot in the chest. According to eyewitnesses Christopher was holding a Wii remote, but police are saying he answered the door holding a gun.
The Roupe family has hired Cole Law as their attorney who has released this statement regarding the incident;
“A female officer told investigators that Roupe pointed a gun at her when he opened the door, it just doesn’t add up. We don’t know where that statement came from. The eyewitnesses on the scene clearly state that he had a Wii controller in his hand. he heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest.”
The officer in question who shot Mr Roupe is said to have come out of the house, put her head in her hands and started sobbing after the incident. Mr Roupe was only 17 years old and attended Woodland High School where he was in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and wanted to join the Marines. Friends at Mr Roupe’s school say he was a good kid and always looked out for everyone.
While details are still hard to come by, if the families account of the incident is correct then this is a horrible accident and a terrible waste of a young teens life who had his whole future ahead of him. Our condolences go out to all those affected by these events.
With many journalists, developers, reviewers and those lucky enough taking part in the early testing of Google’s Glass there is sure to be a lot of social interest. Those lucky enough to be able to test or as Google puts it “explore”, the latest bit of must have tech, Google has released a guide to polite behaviour to it’s “explorers” . While most new tech devices that are taken out to the real world to be tested are easy enough to hide or not draw attention too, the Glass by Google is a little bit different. Seeing as the device is a form of eye-ware that is easily recognized Google has asked for it’s “explorers to not be “Glasshole’s” whilst in public with the device.
Google’s guide to being a polite “explorer” have lists of “do’s and don’t’s” some of these being;
“Do things like use voice commands to keep your hands free, be an active member of the Glass community and always ask permission before taking photos or videos. Don’t do things like wear Glass while participating in high-impact sports, get irked or impatient when people ask you about the device.”
The most important message it seems to be coming from Goggle is to not be a “Glasshole” with the guide going onto to state how to interact with questions about the device;
“Respect others and if they have questions about Glass don’t get snappy. Be polite and explain what Glass does and remember, a quick demo can go a long way. In places where cell phone cameras aren’t allowed, the same rules will apply to Glass. If you’re asked to turn your phone off, turn Glass off as well. Breaking the rules or being rude will not get businesses excited about Glass and will ruin it for other Explorers.”
While this guide would seem like common sense to most people, there is much excitement and trepidation about the upcoming release of Google Glass and it seems like Google is doing all it can do to not only keep the hype about their latest device going, but to also keep those with early access to device aware of their social interactions and conduct while wearing the device out in public.
Once again the debate on whether or not there is or has been water on Mars has again come to light, with Scientists studying images of dark streaks on the planet’s surface. These dark streaks have been labelled RSL or “Recurring Slope Lines” and these may be the key to unlocking whether or not water exists or existed on the Martian Planet. The theory is that the streaks seen or RSL’s may leave minerals in their wake the will either prove or disprove whether these streaks or markings are related to water activity. Lead Author on two reports into RSL, Lujendra Ojha from the Georgia Institute of Technology had this to say in regards to the latest discovery;
“We still don’t have a smoking gun for existence of water in RSL, although we’re not sure how this process would take place without water”
Others have hypothesized that the cause of RSL’s is the flow of near surface water that is kept liquid by salts, although to date Lujendra and his team are yet to find spectral signatures related to the 13 confirmed RSL sites. However they have found distinct and consistent signatures for iron-rich minerals, which could have been left behind during a wet or dry sorting process that filters out the fine dust from the Martian surface. That is just one theory the other is that these signatures could represent an increase in the more oxidized (rusted) component of the minerals or a darkening due to moisture. Both of these theories would indicate the presence of water on Mars, however at this stage we may never truly know that answer until we either get solid data from the planet’s surface or land a human on the planet. I guess only time will tell.
While Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has been a success for Square Enix with heaps of players dueling it out in Eorzea, it will only get better as of February 22nd. This is the date that Square Enix will release its open beta for all Playstation 4 owners to explore the wonderful world of Eorzea. The open beta will occur in two stages, in the first stage which will run from February 22nd till March 3rd. After this first stage of the beta there will sadly be a character reset, the second stage of the beta will run from April 4th to April 7th and upon completion of this stage users will be able to keep their characters and use them when the game is released on April 14th.
But wait the news gets even better with players able to transfer their accounts from the Playstation 3 copy at no charge. However it does come with a catch upon transferring your Playstation 3 account and character over to the Playstation 4 version it will disable your Playstation 3 account. So the bad news is if you want to play on both consoles two copies of the game will be required for each different system. The redeeming factor of the Playstation 4 version is that it includes mouse and keyboard support, as well as Dual Shock 4 touch-pad compatibility and PS Vita remote play. Also offered on the Playstation 4 version of the game is full 1080p, to view some of the new visuals please watch the trailer below.
The prices of the Playstation 4 version are as follows (from Square Enix Online Store), Standard Edition is $39.99, Digital Collectors Edition $59.99 and Physical Collectors Edition will be $79.99. All copies come with 30 days of online playtime included with subscription fees of $12.99 a month there after applying (discounts apply for bulk buying of playtime).
One thing that can be annoying about online games and gaming in general is cheating. It will always be there in games and while companies like Steam have VAC (Valve Anti Cheat) sometimes cheaters and hackers find away around this. Well the guys at Facepunch Studioshave had enough and to stop cheating in their latest game Rust that was released on steam last month, they have launched CheatPunch. Although Rust the apocalyptic survival game, has only been on Steam’s Early Access for a month it all ready has sold over 1 million copies and with that many copies of the game being sold and that many people playing cheats and hacks were bound to make their way into the game.
Enter CheatPunch, which is Facepunch’s way of dealing with player cheating, hacking or modding within the game. Although founder Garry Newman admits that CheatPunch is just a “stop-gap” and cheaters will find ways around this new anti cheating software, it did over the weekend of CheatPunches launch catch and ban 4,621 players for cheating. Mr Newman went onto say this about CheatPunch and those who claim to be wrongly banned;
“If you get kicked from the official servers with the message that you’ve been banned then you have been caught. You know what you have done. You won’t get unbanned. We know it was your 9-year-old cousin. We know your computer got hijacked. We know that the CIA is getting you banned from all your games on Steam so you will join them in the hunt for aliens.”
Of course with this sort of amount of banning their will always be complaints from caught players who claim they weren’t cheating, to this Mr Newman revealed that Facepunch is in the process of setting up a site banned players can go to and see the proof that they have been caught. Like stated before Mr Newman knows that this is only a band aid over the problem and players determined to cheat will find a way around CheatPunch to this Mr Newman said ” That Facepunch would be there to meet cheaters with new methods of restrictions, we are never going to be finished fighting”
It seems that for the past week something to do with Flappy Bird has been in the news. Well here it is again with fellow indie developer Terry Cavanagh making a very similar game to Flappy Bird and he even thanks Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen for the inspiration behind his version of the game inspired by Flappy Bird. But who is Terry Cavanagh and what genre games does he make? Well Mr Cavanagh like to make ridiculously hard and addictive games (kind of sounds like Flappy Bird) and he is most famous for his games VVVVVV and Super Hexagon.
With the same kind of addictive game play as Flappy Bird Mr Cavanagh’s flash game titled Maverick: A Flappy Bird Fan Game is incredibly similar to the short-lived Flappy Bird game. However instead of controlling a bird the player controls a small almost diamond-shaped character and instead of tapping to fly the player simply pushes the up and down key to control the movement through out the game. Just like the game that its modeled off Maverick: A Flappy Bird Fan Game is incredibly hard and yet somewhat addictive and hard to put down, but for anyone who has played Mr Cavanagh’s games before it seems to have the same feeling as playing Flappy Bird but mixed with Mr Cavanagh’s style.
Mr Cavanagh goes onto write that he looks forward to Mr Nguyen’s next game he makes once things settle down a bit for him and that should be sometime in the future with Nguyen maintaining that he’ll return to game developing at some point.
After having the iPhone, iPad and Macbook receive a makeover it seems Apple is now getting ready to do the same with Apple TV and it looks like Time Warner may make it onto Apple’s latest edition of Apple TV. According to reports from Bloomberg Apple is planning to release a new Apple TV and we could be seeing it as early as April 2014. Also in the report from Bloomberg is that fact that Apple is looking of anther partner to stream live channels and video on demand and that the partner could possibly be Time Warner.
Time Warner’s app (TWC TV) is all ready in devices like the Kindle Fire Tablet and even Apple’s main competitor in the over-the-top box market Roku. TWC TV is also used in Xbox 360 and Samsung Smart TV’s and although Apple dose not yet have a partnered cable company attached to the Apple TV, having Time Warner’s TWC TV will in Apple TV will be a huge boost to the device. It has been rumored for a while that Apple has been looking for a cable partner for their Apple TV device and according to the report from Bloomberg they may have found it in the Time Warner Cable company.
While no actual release date was mentioned in the Bloomberg report, it seems that Apple will be looking to release the device over the holiday period. However the report also goes onto to say that this date could change, whenever the device is released customers can expect a new faster processor, with refreshed and new online content. The full report from Bloomberg can be read here.
We have smart phones to make our lives easier, but could we soon be seeing smart diapers? The premise behind this idea from Takao Someya and a team of researchers from the University of Tokyo is that when your child is in another room or going down for a nap a text will be sent to your phone saying that the babies diaper will need to be changed. The idea for this technology comes from the same team at the University of Tokyo where last year they announced that they have designed flexible circuits which are thinner than a piece of plastic wrap, with the original idea being to implant them in the body to monitor blood pressure and body temperature or as a touch pad to be implanted on the roof of the mouth for quadriplegics.
Now it seems the team from the University of Tokyo has found another use for the smart flexible circuits, by creating a disposable organic sensor that can be embedded into a diaper. The senor which will respond to changes in electrical resistance such as pressure, temperature and of course wetness is made from film and inkjet technology. When this device embedded in the diaper senses that it needs to be changed it sends a signal to the external data-reading device.
The data-reading device needs to be at least a couple of inches away from the inkjet printed film to work, however Takao Someya and his team are investigating ways to boost the distance of the signal so close up monitoring of the film will not be needed. The device will also be aimed at being installed into adult diapers, eliminating the need of undressing patients to see if they need changing.
For those people who have bad internet connections or suffer from bad download speeds and lag never fear because IBM researchers in Switzerland have unveiled their prototype for an energy-efficient analogue-to-digital converter that will be able to support connections as fast as 400 gigabits per second. For those thinking wow that’s fast here is a comparison, the new ADC or analogue-to-digital converter is 400 times faster than Google Fibre and roughly about 5000 times faster than your average connection.
This means at the speeds available to this new ADC you could download TV shows and movies in the blink of an eye, however just to show how quick speeds would be with this device you could download a full 4K ultra high-definition movies in under 60 seconds. Now that’s fast however the ADC chip wasn’t actually designed for your common internet needs. It is designed and on its way to the Square Kilometer Array in Australia and South Africa.
What is the Square Kilometer Array? Well it is an international coordination designed to build the worlds largest radio telescope, with the goal of hopefully giving us an idea of what happened during the Big Bang and what events took place after. With the world largest radio telescope sending us all this data it will need a high-speed connection to receive this data and with expectations of over an exabyte a day, which is over 100 billion gigabytes this new chip will definitely come in handy.
Could we soon be seeing Mario and other Nintendo mainstays on our smartphones?
With Nintendo facing a tough year after publicly stating that instead of selling the estimated 9 million Wii U’s last year, (they only have reached less than 3 million consoles sold) Nintendo looks set to release for the first time mobile content. This information comes from the respected Japanese newspaper Nekkei, but bear in mind this is an unconfirmed report. In the report from the Nekkei states that Nintendo plans to release trailers for new games as well as “free-mini-games” that will be available on Android and iOS powered smartphones. This is the first time that Nintendo will release kind of service for smart phones, with Nekkei reporting that the idea is for Nintendo to release details of all new games coming to their systems as well as the character details, release dates and prices for all their new games.
Along with the all this new content about upcoming releases from Nintendo, the Nikkei also reports that the method behind Nintendo releasing free “mini-games” is that if players enjoy the mini-games they will then be able to purchase the actual software for their Nintendo hardware. For those out there thinking that Nintendo will just be releasing demos of their games and hoping that players will actually like the limited game play will be in for a pleasant surprise. According to the report from Nikkei these will be full free mini-games and not demos.
Nikkei’s past track record involving Nintendo information has been pretty solid and the report states that Nintendo will announce this new service later this week. Even Nintendo president has outlined the importance of using smartphones to promote their games, with this address to company investors last October about the surge of people using smartphones for gaming and entertainment;
“I feel that we should make an effort to take advantage of smart devices existence. For instance, we already made it possible to browse Wii U’s networking service called Miiverse on smart devices. Starting with this attempt, we are discussing among us how we can expand the use of smart devices to help drive the business of dedicated gaming systems. Twitter timelines filled with tweets about Monster Hunter and Pokémon can certainly help create awareness for the products, and we also know that many watch Nintendo Direct on their smart devices. Rather than simply viewing smart devices as competitors, we should consider ways in which we can use them for our business.”
Could Nintendo eventually go down the road Square Enix went down by releasing their games and other versions of their popular titles on iOS and Android? We’ll keep you updated on this story when more information becomes available.
It seems these days there is always leaks of new game content and release dates of games and DLC, if latest leaked picture is true we could be seeing the Beta release of Titanfall coming in mid February. The leaked image comes from Micromania, which is a French wholly owned subsidiary of none other than GameStop.
While this image is coming straight from the retailer we can guess that it’s not a fake, however there is still no word from both the developers (Respawn Entertainment) or publishers (EA) as to when the beta release of the game will occur. However seeing as the game is set to release early March 2014 these images seem accurate. Some form of testing will be needed to be done before the games released and since there has been no word on the invite-only Alpha trials that were meant to be happening, hopefully this image is accurate and the Beta will start in a couple of weeks. Guess we’ll just have to wait for either official word from either the developers or publishers on a Beta released date or just wait until February 14th to see if Beta will finally become available.
Could we see Galaxy Glass work with Samsung’s Galaxy Gear?
With the release of Google Glass drawing ever closer it seems other tech companies are keen to get on the “glass” band wagon. Reports are coming out that both Microsoft and Samsung are set to release or are working on their own version of the internet enabled eyewear. It was reported last October last year that Microsoft was looking into the possibilities of entering the internet enabled eyewear market, that is if the Google Glass turns out to be a success. Microsoft was even working on prototypes of their take on the device. Now it seems reports are coming out of Korea that Samsung is serious about entering this new market, and that their device will be called Galaxy Glass.
According to a report from the Korea Times, Samsung will look to release the device at this years IFA fair which is taking place in Berlin this September. The Korea Times also reports that Samsung have all ready registered a patent for a device in Korea and that just like its main rival the Google Glass, Samsung’s device will link a smartphone to the eyewear to display alerts, messages and other data on a transparent or translucent lens. According to the report by Korea Times an unnamed Samsung official released this statement;
“The new smart glass to be introduced by Samsung is a new concept of wearable device that can lead to an exciting culture of communication. The smart glass will present our aim to lead the new market with proven capability. Wearable devices can’t generate profits immediately. Steady releases of devices are showing our firm commitment as a leader in new markets.”
Although if true this news doesn’t come as a surprise, seeing as Samsung has a wide range of devices that the Galaxy Glass could interact with. The Galaxy Glass could be able to interact with everything from Samsung smartphones, tablets, TV’s and lets not forget about Samsung’s all ready released piece of wearable tech, this being the Galaxy Gear. We will keep you updated with more information about the so called Galaxy Glass when it becomes available.
Google is always looking for new innovations, and new ways to push the boundaries of the common way of advertising. It looks like Google has a new patent out that encompasses both new innovations and a new way of advertising. The new patent is for an ad service that would offer a free taxi to the store from which the retailers advertisement you just clicked on online. An abstract of the patent logged by Google is;
“The invention involves automatically comparing the cost of transportation and the potential profit form a completed transaction using a number of real-time calculations.”
This new patent heavily relies on expensive purchases, for someone say looking for a new car or an expensive tech item such as a new TV or computer this service would be great for. However I don’t think it’s viable for say someone looking for a toothbrush or another low-cost product. Google has always been interested in real-time calculations and with this new patent Google has gone onto explain the depth involved in the real-time calculations that would take place;
“The calculation may consider various factors including a consumer’s current location, the consumer’s most likely route and form of transportation (such as train, personal car, taxi, rental car, or shared vehicle), the consumer’s daily agenda, the price competing advertisers are willing to pay for the customer to be delivered to alternate locations, and other costs. In this regard, the customer’s obstacles to entering a business location are reduced while routing and cost calculations are automatically handled based on the demand for the advertiser’s goods and potential profit margins.”
While this new patent seems to be focusing on giving psychical store owners a fighting chance against online stores that offer discounts over the common brick and mortar stores. It will be interesting to see if customers would rather save a certain percentage by shopping online or have the feeling of importance by having a car sent out to you by the store who is competing with the online market and therefore signalling each customer out rather than just appealing to the masses like an online store would. Would you rather shop online and save a little off the recommended retail price, or feel important having a car sent out to your location to go shopping?
Naughty Dog’s hit PS3 game The Last Of Us will be getting the last DLC piece of story based content called Left Behind. While multiplayer DLC will still be released this is the last piece of the story based single player DLC planned to be released. Naughty Dog’s community strategist Eric Monacelli wrote this on the European PlayStation Blog explaining the latest DLC;
There’s mutilplayer DLC up next. We don’t have an y more single player DLC planned. The new single player DLC will be of a sizable length, depending of on difficulty and new music is being recorded for the DLC as well.”
The DLC will be released February 14th and will feature Ellie and her best friend Riley, this will take place before the apocalyptic events of the main story, also added into this DLC will be multi-faction combat. Will this piece of DLC keep fans of The Last Of Us happy? Only time will tell, but we can still look forward to more multiplayer DLC as well.
Meet Robin Antonick, who was awarded a huge settlement from Electronic Arts last summer. The win for Robin was to the tune of $11 million, and was in regards to a long running law suit against EA over the Madden Football franchise. Mr Antonick was a programmer and part of a team that worked on the first Madden game which was released in 1988. The law suit filled by Mr Antonick claimed that succeeding editions of the Madden games continued to use his source code, even though he hadn’t been paid royalties since 1992. In this case the jury agreed with Mr Antonick, giving him a windfall of $4 million in damages and also an extra $7 million in interest.
The Game that started this whole lawsuit
However all has not ended well for Mr Antonick, with a federal ruling on Wednesday that the original jury had no basis for concluding that later games in the Madden series had used Mr Antonick’s original source code. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that the jurors in the original case had no basis for reaching their conclusion to award Mr Antonick the $11 million award, because they relied on Mr Antonick’s expert witness but they were not shown the games side-by-side as required by law. Judge Breyer ruled that;
“Without the opportunity to view each of the versions of the later games, the jury had no basis for evaluating whether the changes the expert witness addressed altered each subsequent game. Because of this there is no evidence from which a reasonable juror could concluded that the games are virtually identical when compared as a whole.”
And this is the reason that U.S. District Judge Breyer used to have the case thrown out. Electronic Arts lead attorney Susan Harriman released this statement after the court case was thrown out;
“We are thrilled to see the claims resolved in favor of EA. As judge Breyer held, there is no evidence that any of the Sega Madden games are virtually identical to the Apple II game that Robin Antonick programmed. The evidence also proved that EA’s source code was not substantially similar to Antonick’s source code. As EA has maintained from day one, Antonick was fully compensated for his work on the Apple II game. Because Antonick had no involvement in the Sega Madden games, he had no entitlement to further royalties.”
While this is a big win for EA, Mr Antonick has said his lawyers will appeal the ruling. We will keep you updated on any further information that comes from this appeal.
It seems with every new year there are new rumors about what the next iPhone will be like. There has been plenty of rumors floating around recently and while nothing will be set in stone until Apple makes its announcement about the iPhone 6 there are several reliable sources that in the past have been close to accurate with their information about the upcoming release of the latest iPhone. It looks like, according to these numerous sources that we will be getting two new iPhone models in 2014, these will be an iPhone 6 and a new larger iPhone with a display that will be a mix in size between phone and tablet more commonly known as a phablet. While the debate about what size each of the new iPhones will be it seems a new report has come out claiming that the iPhone 6 design has now been finalized.
Several sources have all claimed to have insider knowledge these being DisplaySearch, Respected Apple analyst Peter Misek and KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo. Display search are saying that the new iPhone 6 display will have a 4.7 inch screen with a 1,600 x 900 pixel resolution, while Apple analyst Peter Misek say it will have a 4.8 inch display. However Ming-chi Kuo from KGI Securities who has had without a doubt the best track record when it comes to Apple’s plans would only say that the display on Apple’s new iPhone 6 would be between 4.5 and 5 inches.
While all this is speculation one thing that we can be sure of is that what ever the size of the display being used in the iPhone 6 is, it seems Apple have already finalized it. This news comes from Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri. This information came from a note to clients on Wednesday that was picked up by Apple Insider, with Arcuri stating that the iPhone 6’s design has been locked down and will have a 4.8 inch display.
For a complete list of features in the new iPhone 6 we’ll have to wait until it’s launch which should be fall this year, although there is speculation that the iPhone will debut this summer at Apple’s annual WWDC conference.
Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to reunite in Star Wars: Episode VII?
Looks like we will get to see a reunion with Princess Leia, lovable smuggler Han Solo and Jedi Luke Skywalker all set to be in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: Episode VII. Carrie Fisher best known for her role as Princess Leia in Episode IV, V and VI of the Star Wars franchise, has recently told TV Guide that herself, Mark Hamill and Harrsion Ford will begin filming for Episode VII this spring. When asked about the start of filming Carrie fisher went on to say;
“I’m looking forward to beginning work in March or April, along with Ford and Hamill.” Carrie also went onto say that she’d love to wear the classic Leia hairdo again “Although with white hair, I think it would be funny.”
There has been a lot of rumors and heated discussions on what role the original trio of Han, Luke and Leia will play in J.J. Abrams new movie, with many divided over whether on not they want the movie to be focused around Han, Luke and Leia. It looks like that matter has been all cleared up as screenwriter Michael Arndt, who was originally writing the script has left the film as he wanted the original trio as more of a side story with more focus on the new cast. However now that Michael is no longer involved in the writing of the script, Abrams and screenwriting partner Lawrence Kasdan have heavily revised Arndat’s script to give the original trio a proper send off. With Abrams confirming this week that the script for Episode VII is now complete, it looks like we will get to see the original trio be the stars of this movie as well. The movie has a current release date of December 18th, 2015. What are your thoughts on this, would you like to see the original trio star in the new movie or be pushed to the side so focus can be put into developing the stories of the new characters?
Could we be seeing another adventure into the Brutal Legend World?
In an interview with GameSpot Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine said that he would love to revisit the game, whether this is a new standalone game or just a DLC pack for the original. Depending on who you talk to Double Fine’s game Brutal Legend was either an underrated gem or just a mess of genres, however there is no denying that since the port for PC came out last year interest in the game has grown. Whilst the PS3 and Xbox 360 version was released 5 years ago, the PC port has been very successful even topping Double Fine’s hit Psychonauts.
In his interview his GameSpot Tim went onto say this;
“I love that world (Brutal Legend) and I would love to go back there and I think actor Jack Black might be up for it too. While self-funding games vis Kickstarter might be great for smaller projects like Broken Age, keep in mind that it won’t come close to covering the $25 million spent developing Brutal Legend.”
Tim went onto say that if the idea for a Brutal Legend 2 doesn’t gather enough steam and funding, he would still like to visit the world of Brutal Legend again. This could be achieved by DLC, which Tim goes onto talk about in his interview with GameSpot;
“I would love to go back to that world or even just do a DLC pack, we are always trying to get Lionwhyte in there, a playable Lionwhyte army. Maybe that would happen some day. i would definitely love to do that.”
So it seems that Mr Schafer is indeed very keen on either a DLC pack for Brutal Legend or if funding can be acquired maybe even a Brutal Legend 2. What are your thoughts readers, would you like to see another adventure into the Brutal Legend world?
There seems to be another rumor about Disney and Star Wars, with the latest rumor being centered around Pixar developing a Star Wars Film for their parent company. This rumor comes from The Latino Reviewwhich published a report saying;
“It was only a mater of time before Disney’s golden child animation acquisition was brought into the company franchise game. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer John Lassester doubling his time at Disney Animation is a good cog in the machine, but there comes an opportunity to mix two potentially profitable brands together and see if the success can exponentially multiply. Or that must be the thinking at Disney, because we’ve heard that Pixar has been given their own Star Wars movie.”
Although The Latino Review does give us a few details on the project it is to this date, until something is announced by Disney or Pixar a rumor and it could be a long way off given Pixar and Disney already full plates at the moment in regards to film production. While this is only a rumor it does have some validity behind it, seeing as Pixar is one of the most Hollywood’s most bankable studios and combining the Star Wars brand with Pixar would surely be a huge profitable endeavor of both Pixar and Disney. We will keep you updated when more information regarding this rumor becomes available, however I for one would love to see a Pixar take on the Star Wars universe.
Google is continuing working on Google Walletand a Reddit submission today started off a rumor that Google might be starting to accept Bitcoins as a form of currency to use within Google Wallet. Sadly however this rumor turned out to be just that, with a Google spokesperson releasing this statement in regards to the rumor posted on Reddit today;
“As we continue to work on Google Wallet, we are grateful for a very wide range of suggestions. While we are keen to actively engage with Wallet users to help inform and shape the product, there is no change to our position: we have no current plans regarding Bitcoin.”
So although the title of the submission on Reddit from user named JasonBored was called “Google confirms their payment team is working to incorporate Bitcoin”, it seems Google has no immediate plans to incorporate Bitcoin in to Google Wallet. Reddit user JasonBored claimed to have received an email from Google Wallet’s Senior Vice President Sridhar Ramaswamy which can be viewed below
So while this email, if it really is from Google Wallet’s Senior Vice President, Sridhar Ramaswamy and Google Wallet’s payment team seem to be looking into Bitcoin for Google Wallet but there are no immediate plans for the online currency within Google’s current programs and software. However JasonBored apparently was also asked by Google’s Vice President of Payments to engage in a Google Moderator post titled “What would I want Google to do with Bitcoin”. So while for the time being anyway, it looks like Google has no plans to roll out anything to do with Bitcoin, but they do seem to be entertaining the idea about the virtual currency.
An artists impression of space probe Rosetta rendezvous with comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
The space probe launched by The European Space Agency or ESA has sent its first transmission back to earth after 3 years of hibernation from over 800 million kilometers away. The probe named Rosetta sent its first signal to the ESA this morning, with the ESA saying they received Rosetta’s “Hello World” signal loud and clear. The probe was launched in 2004, but was put in hibernation mode in 2011 to save energy for the over 7 billion kilometer trek around the inner Solar System before it will rendezvous with the comet named 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Space shuttle carrying the 3 tonne Rosetta blasting off from Kourou, French Guiana
Now that the probe is out of hibernation and if all goes to plan Rosetta will meet up with the comet in the next 10 of months. Once close enough to the comet Rosetta will drop a lunar probe to the comet’s surface to study and carry out experiments on the icy surface of the comet. Depending on whether you believe the creation of the universe happened with the “Big Bang”, comets are seen by those who do as being remnants of the birth of our star system and left overs from the “Big Bang”. Scientists hope that the information the lunar probe finds on the surface of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko will help unlock the secrets of how our solar system was created and what was the secret to kick-starting life on earth.
Artists impression of Rosetta’s lunar lander probe
Scientists from the ESA said that the reason Rosetta was placed in hibernation was because on its travels to rendezvous with 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko “it was so far from the sun that the light was too dim to power its solar array, so it was shut down to conserve energy”. With Rosetta being so far away scientists at the ESA had to wait over 8 hours for the signal to reach earth, with the transmission travelling over 800 million kilometers just to reach us. A press statement released by the ESA summed up the feelings of all those involved with the project “It was a fairy-tale ending to a tense chapter”.

Samsung is at it again with a new tablet on the way, this time their newest release into the tablet market will be aimed at the budget or casual user. Their latest tablet named the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, doesn’t quiet have the same specs as any of their other tablets but that’s the point. The Tab 3 Lite will come in either black or white with a 7 inch 1024×600 display a 1.2GHz dual core processor, 1GB of memory and only 8GB of internal storage. However more storage can be added through the use of a microSD card. Also the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite will feature an older version of androids operating system, it will run on an old version of Jellybean. This added with the fact that the camera on the latest tablet from Samsung will only be a 2 megapixel camera, this tablet is definitely aimed at the casual user or the user looking for a cheap and reliable tablet without all the bells and whistles.
Although Samsung has released no set dates or prices for the release of the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite we expect the price to be somewhere around the $176 USD or £107 GBP. We will bring you more information on Samsung’s latest tablet when it becomes available.
There is a new patch coming for Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, and you better hope that you’re not getting close to your monthly internet data usage, seeing as this patch will be a whopping 13GB. To date this is one of the biggest game patches in history in terms of file size, with most patches being anywhere from 500MB up to around the 2GB mark. Why is this patch for Dead Rising 3 so big and should we accept that all patches for next-gen game to be this size? According to Dead Rising 3 executive producer Josh Bridge who released a statement about the patch and upcoming content for the game;
“The patch is designed to both fix issues and ensure compatibility with the online players and all of the upcoming add-on content that is coming out shortly as well”.

Looks like the patch came out at the right time, if the patch is to fix compatibility with the release of the games first piece of DLC coming out tomorrow. For those wondering that DLC will be titled Operation Broken Eagle. For those owners of Dead Rising 3 who are getting close to their data limit or just simply want to put of downloading the patch it is as simple as disconnecting your router or your Xbox One from the internet. however if you want to play Dead Rising 3 online you will need to download the patch. Hopefully this patch doesn’t set a precedent with all the new games coming out on the next-gen consoles and patch sizes are kept to a minimum, whilst it is not a huge deal for most some users in countries with slower internet may find this patch a bitter pill to swallow.
Non-profit group Innocence en Danger has created a campaign to highlight the dangers of children talking to strangers online by creating emoji’s using real human faces. The emjoi has long been used as a series of cartoony like images to show off emotions in text messages, instant messaging and skype. The goal of the adverting campaign is to draw attention to the issue of sexual predators who roam online chat services looking to meet children and by using emoji’s gain their trust.
The word emoji is a Japanese creation meaning picture (e) and letter (moji). While emoji’s have been around since the birth of texting and mobile phones, it is the terrible use that they are used for that is the driving force behind this campaign. Innocence en Dangeris hoping that by seeing these creepy images parents and children alike will learn that when chatting online to strangers you never know how they are, even if they are using the emoji’s and to be careful because you never know who could be on the other end of the computer/phone.
Hopefully this campaign will take off and get awareness out to the serious issue of online sexual predators preying on children online.
The first case with probably many more to come regarding driving whilst wearing Google’s Glass has been thrown out of a San Diego traffic court. Cecilia Abadie is a software developer and one of the 30,000 people lucky enough to be able to try out Google’s latest piece of technology before it get a main stream release later this year. Abadie was driving on a San Diego free way in October of 2013 when a California Highway Patrol officer saw that she was wearing the device while driving. The Patrol officer handed her a citation which is usually given to those operating and watching a dash mounted TV or Video player.
However Abadie pleaded not guilty to the charges handed down to her, with San Diego Traffic Court Commissioner John Blair throwing the case out, by ruling that Cecilia Abadie was not guilty citing that the offence she was charged for required proof that the device was on and in operation. The California Highway Patrol has declined to comment on the case, however they released a statement saying that anything that takes the driver attention away from the road is dangerous.
Legislation’s in three states of America have been made that will ban driving with Google Glass, these being Delaware, New Jersey and West Virginia. Google has released a statement on their website which contains an advisory to those looking at getting the Google Glass when it becomes available to the public;
“Read up and follow the law. Above all, even when you are following the law, don’t hurt yourself or others by failing to pay attention to the road”.

Remember the game Tony Hawk’s Underground 2? I remember playing that game like crazy when I was a child and now a small group of friends have modded and the game by adding a bunch of new levels, improved character customization and getting the game to run in 1080p.
That’s not all, with change also being made to improve online play and a feature that can change the game to play either like the PC version or the PS2 version. This is just the start of the groups changes that they have up and running with plans in the future to add every level from everyTony Hawk’s game, a level editor and something I’m looking forward too, a new story mode.
Here is some footage from the modded version of the game.
