CES 2016: If you take your audio seriously, and I’m sure many of you do, then you’ll likely cringe using stock headphones on your mobile device. If you have a high-quality music collection, use a DAC and AMP at home and great speakers or headphones to enjoy your favourite media, it seems only fair that you would want to take that quality with you wherever you go.
These slick new headphones from Audeze are designed to work with the Apple lightning connector, rather than 3.5mm, which will suit the latest Apple devices nicely anyway. Of course, that’s not good enough for audiophile audio, so on the cable you’ll find a custom AMP and DAC combo, pushing 24bit audio and giving you the best clarity possible. Naturally, this isn’t going to be cheap, and you can expect to pay from $300 to $600 for the privilege, but having heard the results, it’s hard to argue with the hardware.
The in-line controller, which also houses the AMP and DAC hardware.
Using planar magnetic drivers, the headphones can deliver fantastic dynamic range and perfectly distortion free audio.
We’re looking forward to seeing more products from their range throughout the year and can’t wait to test them even further.
